Well the title saids it all. I really like gingerbread keyboard but i love swype. How can install swype or if i cant then how can i just install swipe frojo keyboard instead? Im much better tipping with swype then just tipping.
Thanks
I don't think you can. Swype isn't just a function over the original keyboard; it's an entirely separate program itself.
You can install Swype separately, though. You can go to the Swype website and sign up for their beta. They send an email including a link to the apk installer. That's what I did when I was using a Nexus S.
But I wouldn't have thought you'd have to, given that the Vibrant comes with Swype. Are you sure you can't just select it in your settings menu? No matter the rom I've flashed, I've retained access to Swype on my Vibrant. Of course, they may have just included Swype. Not sure.
Hope that helps.
I have no clue what you are trying to ask.. but why not just use swype and a GB theme?
OR, use tasker and have it so portrait is swype and landscape is the GB keyboard.
The problem i have is that the trigger 3.2 seen not to have swype. I will edit the rom and replace the keyboard.apk
Thanks

Trigger comes with the Swype Beta Installer. If you have the beta, just sign in to it. If you do not have the beta yet, go to swypes website and register for the beta then open the app on your phone.
There are themes in the theme section for swype once you are up and running.
Tasker is an app in the market that allows total control over what your phone does.

Hey everyone on xda,
I've been looking for a good keyboard that gives a good amount of space for typing. I don't care for the word prediction/auto correct features I usually turn those off because they're more of a bother than something that helps. I have tried swype (was ok but never truly cared for it) and the gingerbread keyboard (currently using, but the keys are a little to small) and I would like to know what your preference is for a keyboard.
TLDR - Which keyboard do you prefer?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you flash axura, it comes with a modded htc sense keyboard which is awesome. The only bad thing about it is it doesnt respond as fast as gingerbread keyboard.
I personally like swipe and the GB one. The stock samsung keyboard isn't so bad either it offers plenty of space. Like stated above, you might like the HTC one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 look for the right one. There's some screenshots in there as well.
I'm a big fan of SwiftKey - currently half price on the market ($1.99 down from $3.99). I know you stated you don't like prediction/auto-complete, but SK's is terrific. I find myself able to type much faster with it than any other keyboard.
Alright thanks for all the replies. Would I be able to take the .apk file of the htc keyboard from the axura rom? I have looked at the swiftkey keyboard but I don't feel that spending cash on a keyboard is worth it when they're great keyboards that are free.

I also like SwiftKey and the voice input on SK seems to work better than the one on stock Android keyboard.
Bump to see if I would be able to take the HTC keyboard apk from the Axura rom and push it onto my phone through root manager.

this is htc_ime. just download and unzip. install the apk like you normally would from your SD card.
if you feel adventurous, use the htc_ime keyboard kitchen to make a custom keyboard for yourself. its super easy.
hit thnx
Thanks for all the replies and the link .
Edit: Can't hit the thanks button the xda app doesn't support it <.<

Hi I just downloaded swype beta and its turned on but the keyboard doesn't change. The same thing happened when I tried swift keyboard. I check it but its the stock keyboard. I am on bamf beta 6. Anyone have any ideas.

Hold on the text input box and choose input method and choose swype.
I'm sorry, but I don't see that button on my keyboard.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Long press the text input area. You'll see a dialog pop up with keyboard choices.
Synergy and Dream Kernel
Thanks I finally got it figured out. I had to go to the swype installer app and change a setting there.

Now be aware, unless with Swype Beta 3.0 they fixed it, that when you reboot your phone, Swype will stop working.
What you'll have to do is long press inside a text box, and switch your input mode back to the stock keyboard. Long press again, and switch it back to Swype. You'll be good to go! I guess I haven't rebooted since 3.0 installed yesterday... maybe they fixed this bug?!
I just rebooted and swype was still there so that's a good thing

But did it work just fine? I've always had to switch to the stock keyboard, then back to swype after a reboot, otherwise the actual swype motions wouldn't create words.

Yes, the new Swype 3.0 works for our phone and does not have the problems that the old one had when it would reboot that you would have to select another input type then Swype again. That was a big headache to deal with every time you wanted to enter a new message.
Yeap like picao said it worked without a hitch.

I'm using Swype 1.6 and am not having any issues with it, use it with the default mail app, and it's there after rebooting. Is this only a 3.0 "feature"?
Awesome. i'm going to reboot right now just to check!
so im on bamf 1.6.3 and the stock messaging app wont auto space between words for swype. it does on handcent but i dont like using it. has anyone found a fix for this? and i heard it was fixed on gingerbread is that true?
The beta skips spaces and I haven't had any issues with it yet. But the double space doesn't put a period.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I'm glad they fixed this with the new 3.0 beta, what a pain in the ass that was after every reboot.
I run ARHD on Desire HD. In all previous Swype versions up to now, swyping almost never worked until I manually re-initialised its listener.
The current version hasn't displayed this problem at all, which had finally made the program quite usable. The word chooser is still proving to be a bit of a problem due to silly default choices, I'm having to correct it far too often. And editing words that aren't in the dictionary is exceptionally tricky due to the way the cursor keeps jumping around in edit mode, though that may be just as much the fault of Android Gingerbread or HTC Sense, for all I know.

I had the same issue when i initially got my TB (before rooting/ROM). I found in these forums a link to the EVO swype apk that you can use on the TB to fix the auto-space issue with SMS/MMS.
I'm back to using the 3.0 beta version of swype and I'm having the same auto-space issue you describe. I like the 3.0 updates too much to go back to the old EVO version, but maybe the EVO 3.0 apk would give the same fix as the old version.
What is the best keyboard for fast typing with fast auto correct?
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App
For me, Swype.
Swyped from my LG-P509 using XDA App.
Try SwiftKey X not bad
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App
The Gingerbread default keyboard works great.
Next comes Swype.
the gingerbread default keyboard has fast auto correct but you either have to type the whole word out or choose from the list of predictions
swype allows you to type fast but it might not give you the word you want. plus it takes up a big part of your screen
but id say gingerbread keyboard
My keyboard (gingerbread) is sloe and does not auto correct fast enough.

If you can get it try out the new Touchpal keyboard. Been testing it out myself
swype keyboard is the best
i would say stock gingerbread keyboard is better
at least for me..
but i turned of the quick fix option because it's annoying..

^^ I have used the swype and then changed to gingerbread KB and also turned off quick fix.. Love it!
swype for me... i tried swiftkey but its hard to type in portrait...
swype 3.0 sucks tho for this phone, it blocks too much of the screen so google older versions
Swype is the best for what you want
When I downloaded and installed swype on my note running ICS is installs the tablet version so the keyboard is way too small, is there an APK of the phone version of some tweak I can use to resize it?
The one over on the international Note works fine with ours.
Thanks for the info, for anyone looking I got the Swype from here

I was watching a review of the American version(can't rem which carrier?) and it stated we had choice of three different keyboards...and none was Swype. Man I hadn't planned on rooting immediately, but to get the Swype keyboard, that seems bogus if it doesn't come with it, does anyone know for sure?
If I am not mistaking, I do believe Swype is built into the Samsung keyboard under a different name.

Thankyou, I love Swype. I was just reading through the pages at AndroidCentral.com and they said it this way:
"Those of you used to seeing Swype pre-loaded on Samsung phones can now find this functionality baked into Samsung’s keyboard; to enable it, check the box marked “continuous input” in the keyboard menu."
Is this what you've found cypher? or does the keyboard actually say its the "Swype" keyboard?
I'll prolly know first hand here in just a little while, my GS3 is "Out for Delivery" right now!!

Actually, that's exactly it. It's the "Samsung keyboard" but it's got the 'Swype' functionality. And it's enabled by default.
I don't actually use it or Swype though so I can't comment as to differences or shortcoming, etc.

+1 to FlexT9 keyboard, although I believe the new Swype beta is basically the old FlexT9 and Swype combined as Nuance (creator of FlexT9) bought Swype a while back. The new Swype beta is the first keyboard I've liked over it. I just hope once the beta expires there is a way to purchase it for devices it doesn't come preinstalled on.
I don't like the new T9 (what they're calling Swype) that's built in to the GS3. I was used to Swype on my old Epic, but this version is nowhere near as good. It does have the option to select from a list of possible words, but I have the worst time getting it to accept basic words through "gliding" (not swyping). and end up just typing them when they don't show in the list of suggestions. Granted this is while using my right thumb in one-handed operation, but that's how I used to use Swype with no problems.
If you do type words it doesn't know, it will add them to the dictionary, but I have no idea how to remove them if it's a typo.
It does NOT have Swype.
Samsung keyboard has a swyping feature, but it's very primitive.
