Announced at Google IO, will we see the next Android version Ice Cream Sandwich on our SGS2?
They also said samsung have signed up to providing updates for 18months on new phones, does that include the SGS2?

I'm guessing (and hoping) that will mean yes!
As far as ive read, the android carrier alliance has promised updates for atleast 18 months on all phones in their current lineup. Since the sgs2 is so new we should be ok.
All phones released after the signing of the deal are covered.
I suppose the next question to ask is how dry is that ink?
Considering the hardware specs on the SGS2, ICS will be eaten easily. Since Samsung has been more than adequate in updating their phones, especially the flagships, I'm very confident that we will be eating Ice Cream Sandwich this fall.

You think we'll get ics....or will it be implemented in the new atrix that will be coming out ...
Even if we don't get it, I'm sure we will have a a custom rom on ice cream sandwich, so I'm not worried

Well put!
.... 10 char minimum
Just because bootloader is unlocked doesn't mean we'll get ics automatically from devs. There's a lot more that taking ics and slapping it into another device.

Since Ice Cream Sandwich won't be released until late this year or early next year (yeah, I know they're say Q4 2011), I doubt their will be a MOT/AT&T release for Atrix.

isn't there a 2 year rule with updates?
since atrix came out this year, doesn't that mean it'll be supported by ICS?
They will stop the update for the phone, not more than one year when it released?
Maaaaaaaaany lower in power phones, will be released and getting upgrade on ICS,
or may released with ICS.
I understand to stop updates, when a phone's power, isnt enough.
But not with a dual core.
Everybody will switch to Sensation, SGS, if they dont, so i think and hope they will
EDIT: btw, when ICS hits, xda will open sections for TVs? Rooting and hacking TV's?

Well if we get CM7, which we will, we're essentially guaranteed a souped up ICS when Google releases it, aren't we? CM will update to CM8 I'm sure to accommodate, and we're likely to be an officially supported CM phone when it's done.
We'll probably be using different phones by the time Ice Cream Sandwich comes out
We'll get ice cream stock or custom. I think that moto will release 2.4 for atrix. That's a must do for them.

If it's coming out in half a year, then I seriously doubt it.
I like the Atrix and consider it very future proof.
With the unlocked bootloader and constant developer support I have no doubt it can hold out as a top phone for 2 more years.
I think the atrix is futureproof in all ways i can think of, i have yet to see an app that really takes use of dual core, and the tegra is just starting to take off.
I don't think we'll get it from moto but cm8 I'm will bring it our way.

ICS isn't even out yet, so he either has a bad SDK port, which is buggy at best right now or a very easy to reproduce themed/morphed gingerbread.
it is if he got his phone 2 days ago, i could post a picture if you want, its the real ics i just wanna know if its possible

Post a shot of the "about phone screen" if it is "real" than it is an SDK port which is not even close to stable right now. What phone are you looking to put this on?
Actually the SDK port on the Nexus S is very stable. Only Bluetooth and 4g not working.

Even if his phone does have it no you can't.
You either hope your carriwr does it for your phone or be s-off and flash a ICS rom for your phone(there won't be any until source code is released)

You are wrong. Someone bought nexus s with ICS from ebay. He bought it before ICS launched. Yeah, but Google remotely wiped the device off after they realized it. But who know who is the lucky one that bought another.

i'm anxious to see this thing going myself. i'm getting a new phone soon but am keeping my tbolt. this thing's been my fav phone i've ever had(hd2 2nd).
Ics doesn't appeal to me visually that much more then previos android versions. I mean yea it would be way better in terms of performance but not cosmetic wise not as speaking as Samsung tw or htc sense. I expected it to be more like those by default. Instead, they've totally done away with the dock shortcuts for convenience. The galaxy nexus has it tho. I'm hoping that the OS will work well with UI shell overlays and there will be good home replacement apps that can be made to compliment the new OS. Overall I am looking forward to its release and ports to different devices for I am looking to be somewhat wo'ed by ics.

Officially it will follow HTC's release schedule. They announced on their facebook page early 2012. Heard rumored December, but I haven't seen any links backing up a pre 2012 date.
Unofficially, pretty sure you won't see an ICS release for EVO 3D which supports 3D or WiMAX until HTC releases their official version. If 3D and WiMAX have taken at least a few months for developers to port to current gingerbread AOSP, ICS won't make the process any easier.
Perhaps there is or will be an ICS ROM w/o 3D or WiMAX support for EVO 3D soon, but I haven't seen anything really. Development board might have a hint or two. I know I've seen ported releases for other devices, but these won't be full featured.
Would count on the official HTC release in early 2012. Currently can't access fbook or twitter, but thats where I originally saw the early 2012 release date for EVO 3D published by HTC.
Hope that helps!

Good thing i still have my White GNexus. OTA update to Gnexus owners should start rolling in July. Looks like my Note is going to get some rest soon.
But i'm pretty sure we'll see this on the Note soon. If not, then CyanogenMod team will make it happen for us! Besides, it shouldn't be that big of an update...think CM6 to CM7 kinda change.

Who is *****ing? I haven't even upgraded to ICS yet so I am also in no hurry to get this either so this thread is not about *****ing just friendly thoughts and conversation but I do know what you mean. They blame Samsung they blame their carrier lol why can't they ever just be patient and wait til an update is ready? Cracks me up how everyone thinks they need the newest everything just cause its new. I like to wait a while for new software in case it f's up peoples devices or cause a lot of problems. My device still works with the olld software so i'm still good with Gingerbread at the moment.
Considering I could run ICS on my captivate that came stock with 2.1, then the Note should eventually get JB.
ooooo ..maybe they will skip giving us ICS and we will get JB...

It is not really called Jelly Bean, its Android 4.0. Jelly Bean is the code name of the project Google used in the making of Android 4.0. Its kinda like when Ubuntu is working on updates they always use a code name till they release it then its called Ubuntu 10.4, 10.10 and so on.
