AC adapter failed, Asus won't help - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

Today while I was plugged in I noticed my TF was not getting charged. I checked all the connections, rebootedthe device, and still no luck. I plugged it into my laptop and it was recognized as usual, and even charged up 1% over 10 minutes. I then plugged it into an old iphone charger and it charged a bit faster.
I tried the Asus AC adapter again and it didn't work. I called Asus and explained the issue. I was told I could order a new charger through estore.asus.com. Of course they don't have them in stock. I called the store and they recommended I contact customer support again. I called them back and they said my only option was to wait until the estore got them in stock. They said I couldn't RMA the Adapter at all. The rep said he couldn't confirm if the adapter was covered by the warranty!
I'm really frustrated right now, sorry for venting.

Apologize for asking a trivial question; have you made sure that the wall adapter has locked into the charger correctly? There are two prongs in the adapter that need to click into the charger unit. I ask since I had a hard time figuring this one out

Does your TF battery discharge when plugged in? I have noticed others on here and some other sites talking about a charging problem. I got my TF today and plug it in right away since it talks about charging for 8 hours. It went from 35% to 100% pretty fast. After it got to 100 I put it on the dock and plugged the dock in. At some point the dock got a green light. At that point I hit the battery icon and saw it said 98%. It has stayed there for the last three hours with everything plugged in. The thinkpad I have at work has a preset threshold for when it starts charging. Supposidly this is for the battery health. I wonder if the TF wont start charging until it drops to a certain level. Even though my TF doesn't show charging at 98% if plugged in directly or through the dock if the dock is plugged in the dock shows a green light.

Yup. Devices will only start charging at 89-90% until full. If you disconnect the charger before it's full, most will not continue charging, until again depleted below that threshold.
OP, try turning the device off completely with the cable out (hold the power button for about 15 seconds). Then, when off, and the cable plugged into the charger, plug the charger in to the device. If the charger is working, it should power the device on, and hopefully, you'll see the charging icon.

Don't know where you are in the world but in the UK they _can't_ exclude an integral part like that from the warranty. If the person on the other end cant verify if it's under the warranty I suggest you tell them to get someone that can. their lack of internal communication is not your problem.

I got the same problem.
I got my Transformer last week and I encountered the same problem. When I first called the Asus support, the guy told me that my option would be to send the whole thing to them because I did not know at that time that it was the adapter. I told him that I would return the machine to the store that I bought instead. Then, I started testing by plugging it to my PC and it worked. I also plugged a USB light to the Asus adapter and it did not do anything, so I called them back the next day. I got a better support person this time and he told me to send the adapter back to them. I got the RMA number. I know that they probably don't have the replacement yet so I will have to wait and see.
In the mean time, I find out that the iPad AC adapter will charge the Transformer a bit faster than plugging into a computer. However, it is still not that fast. It takes several hours before charging from 60% to 100%, but it is not too bad. I will have to leave with it until I get a replace adapter.

I have tried completely powering the tablet off and plugging it in, it does nothing. The adapter worked fine for about a week, but now it's toast. I'm going to try and call Asus again today and see what I can do. It's sad that others have had the same issue!
I'm going to try and find an iPad charger in the meantime.

I think the iPad adapter will provide 5V and more than 1.2Amp. Does anyone know an AC adapter that will provide more voltage?

FYI I've tried emailing Asus about getting a spare power adapter. They weren't particularly helpful:

Even if you happen to find a 15v PSU with a USB connector on it it's unlikely to work as it would nee dto put that 15v on the right pin. The USB3 socket is not supposed to have 15v anywhere so the pinout can't be anything like a standard, they just happen to be rolling in 2 uses (USB sync/+15v Power) into one port.

Getting to the bottom of charging issues.

This part of the forum is covered in different charging issue threads due to it being such a prominent feature. Things ranging from model numbers, overheating, not working at all and only working intermittently.
I thought I would attempt to build a thread of the issues we Transformer owners are experiencing and seeing if anyone can really get to the bottom of this.
From what I have picked up from the forums many people are getting bad responses from Asus support, either providing no help at all or asking for the entire tablet+dock+charger at the users expense for shipping.
Common problems outline
[1]The brick gets very hot and stops charging
[2] The contacts between the brick and country adapter (e.g. USA/UK/EU) don't contact properly.
[3] The brick refuses to work altogether for no obvious reason.
Solutions attempted
[1] Bending the two contacts between the brick and country adapter slightly away from the brick (1 - 2mm)
[2] Calling (a somewhat unhelpful so far) Asus and asking for replacement
[3] Preserving (Not very Fun)

The problems I am experiencing myself are basically that the charger works sometimes perfectly and other times not at all.
I can plug my charger in sometimes and it will work fine, others I can plug it in and my TF doesn't indicate charging although it does charge just VERY VERY slowly (about 2% every 25min).
Heat has not been an issue for me as it has been for many, my charging cable doesn't got warm at all and the brick is never alarmingly warm, nowhere near as hot as my laptop charger gets and the Asus charger is only 5V less than my laptops charger.
Model Numbers
Model numbers have been spoken about but so far I cannot find any evidence that they are different from one another, a known fault with 0B-LF so issues reported to Asus with that model should be find, but as far as I can tell problems with these power bricks happen across all the models (0B-LF, 0B-1LF, 0B-2LF)
If your having issues with your power brick post them below so we can try to keep them all in one place and hopefully try and resolve this.
As you are in the UK i'm not sure if this would apply to you but from my personal experience, i've had situations where the charger itself would be quite warm to the point where up close you can smell that aroma of overheating electronics. The charger has also refused to charge even when not hot, but will work once again after i've taken it off the mains and let it sit.
The american outlets differentiate between the hot and neutral leads via the larger and smaller prongs. I read in another thread concerning polarity and surface charges that when the charger is plugged in with the prong on the A side of the ASUS logo towards the larger (neutral) hole, then the charger will work properly. This has been my experience. I've come to a personal conclusion that the design of the charger is such that it is pole-sensitive but asus didn't bother to tell anyone which prong goes where, hope that might be of some use to you.

I never have had my charger get hot enough to smell like burning. The only way so far of resolving the issue is leaving my charger unplugged for about 20 min+ and then reconnecting it to my TF.
You forgot the "stick the brick in the freezer" trick.
Not kidding, it worked like a champ for me and a few others.
Put the brick in ziplock bag and stick it in the freezer.

You know you can achieve the same result by just letting it sit without being plugged anywhere between 20 - 30 minutes. Just in case you don't want to put it in the freezer anymore.

Yeah that's what I have been doing, if I plug in my TF and it won't charge I just leave it unplugged for about half an hour and then plug it in again but this is a bit of a pain. Could really do with a better solution.

Today my TF is refusing to charge at all. It trickle charges from the charger but this takes forever, its gone up 2% in just over 30mins. I'm not sure what to try now.
I have plugged it into charge, didn't work, left it unplugged for 20mins, plugged back in, wouldn't charge, left it unplugged for an hour, plugged back in, wouldn't charge, left it to trickle charge because it only had 1% battery.
I'm not sure what to try now, I might have to call Asus after I go on holiday.
Seems my charger will only trickle charge now, I cant get it to charge properly whatever I try. Maybe I should put it in the freezer for 20mins and see what it does......
If you do the freezer trick, let the adapter sit out UNPLUGGED for a short while.
Introducing heat can result in condensation (water) and we all know water and electronic bits don't get along that well.
Vendors are starting to get stock in spare chargers these days. I just got one in last week. Never had problems with the original yet, tho. The new one is going to the office where it will stay.

Get a new one, and if it works normally, toss the original one in the box and exchange it at the place you purchased the second one at.
If ASUS won't replace it under warranty, the above will end up with them replacing it when the vendor returns it to them.
I've done some research and as far as I can tell the TF power brick operates in two modes, one is for lower powered 'ordinary' usb devices, such as my phone. This allows this charging brick to charge at 5v @ 2amps outputting a total of 10W.
The second option is primarily for when a TF is connected and runs at 15v @ 1.2amps outputting 18W.
My charging brick seems to charge my phone on the 5v mode fine, but when I connect my TF it isn't charging properly and takes ages, this leads me to believe that somewhere down the line my charging isn't connecting something somewhere and allowing for the 15v charging to take place.
Would I be right in saying this or am I talking all jibberish?

I'd agree. Something in the solid-state(a mosfet or IC) has crapped out due to heat, breaking the 15V section of the charger. Time for a new one. It's possible there's damage to pin 7 in the usb port, but heat-fry is much more likely.

Yeah definately taking it back to retail store I bought it from, hopefully they will try it and just give me a new charger then and there.
Info I've gleaned, just in case it might assist someone:
1) I took delivery of an 0B-3LF charger today from ASUS UK, haven't seen any mention of the 3LF yet on XDA. It *appears* to generate less heat but that could just be a placebo effect.
2) Coincidentally, my 0B-2LF - which always got hot when charging dock+tablet simultaneously - failed last night. Unplugging it from the mains then replugging it did not fix it, even though it was cold to the touch by this point. Six hours after unplugging it from the mains, I tried again... the 0B-2LF started working, and continues to work. So if your charger fails, unplug it, give it six hours, then try it again - ideally before registering an RMA, otherwise you'll have to spend an extra half hour working out how to cancel the RMA (answer: email [email protected] with your RMA number, serial number and case reference).
My charger works whenever it feels like it wants to. I've been messing with it for the last 30-45 min with no luck. Unplugging the charger from the outlet, trying different outlets, unplugging and plugging back in the usb cable, with and without usb 3.0 extension, rotating the mains to switch the polarity, pushing out the prongs for the country adapter, widening the opening in the prongs, banging the charger, letting it sit and nothing is working. Just now it turned on, but right after the boot screen, it made the low power chime and died.
Seems like the problem is getting worse. Before when it first stopped charging it was really easy to get it charging again.
Also my father got the TF within the same week i got mine. He went overseas and came back to visit again and his charger has no issues. But i did notice he keeps the USB 3.0 extension along with the usb cable all plugged into each other into the mains whereas I unplug mine and wrap them up when taking them along.
Think that might have something to do with it?

That's how mine started, but got worse. I only charge my tablet once a day and the charger is unplugged from the outlet between charges. Now I can't get it to charge. Every now and then if i unplug it and plug it back in, it'll boot up the TF but then the second the boot animation is over, makes the battery low chime, 0% remaining and shuts off!
Just got off the phone with asus tech support, they gave me an RMA number and i have to mail the charger to them to see if they can repair it.... whats up with that? why can't they just mail me a new one and i mail them back this broken one or get billed for it like every other tech company i've dealt with?
I've had the exact same issues as both of you. At first if it wouldn't charge I would leave it for a few mins and then it would charge straight away. It slowly got word and I had to fight with it more to get it to charge and now it will only trickle charge.
I will charge it up overnight tonight and leave it for six hours or more. Hopefully this will work until I can send it back.
(I'm not sure if i have mentioned this somewhere but my charger model number is 0B-1LF)

Then I tried my cable on my dad's charger and no go, only trickle (5v) charge. Then tried my dad's usb cable on my charger and it worked. So I think it has something to do with the cable not telling the charger it needs 15v.
Going to call asus back tomorrow and see if they'll
Send me another cable.
asus rant: how come I have to pay to mail out my defective part and be without it while they repair or replace it? Every other company I've dealt with would send me the replacement and I would have to mail back the defective unit (using a prepaid label included) or be billed for it.

Maybe its my cable too, unfortunately I don't have another brick to try it on. Will have to just wait and see.

Device stopped charging: Poor Design of wall Charger

My device suddenly will no longer charge. When I plug the power supply in, it still says not charging. Please, if anyone knows what to do please reply?
Try another cable if you have one. Reboot, factory reset. If that doesn't help send it back.
I read somewhere (In this forums "I believe") the charger has a shutout mechanism when overheating and sometimes gets stuck.
What resolved the problem was placing the adapter in a plastic bag inside the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
Right after after that the adapter started to work.
Ok, now this is weird... After unplugging for about 10 minutes I then plugged the charger back in and the tablet detected it right away and began to charge....
Is it possible the charger shut itself down because it got too hot?
I don't know what to think-
Can the charger go into some kind of thermal shutdown? Can the charger overheat if left plugged into the wall for an extended period of time?
I was using my tablet with the charger plugged in for over an hour... thats when I noticed suddenly it was no longer at 100 percent battery, and that it had stopped charging. The charger was cold to the touch, like it wasn't even plugged into the wall.
Is it possible that the tablet switches off the charger when the battery reaches a certain charging threshold? I noticed that when the charger started working again the battery capacity had dropped to 90 percent... Is it possible that the tablet can determine it has reached full charge capacity and switch the charger off even though it is plugged in?
My tablet was perfect up until this happened, and now I am concerned since I only have about 2 weeks to return to New-egg- after that I have to deal with Asus!
Any thoughts?

Would probably be more productive if you read the replies in your post.
I did the firmware updates today, but once again, my prime is not charging. I'm down to 20percent battery. I tried bending the 2 prongs a little inward on the wall adapter after separating the 2 halves of the charger, but it did not help.
I put the charger in a plastic bag and threw it in the freezer. will take out after 15 minutes and see if it has something to do with thermal reset.
I don't know what to do at this point. Is it the tablet, or the charger that is bad.
If I order another charger online, I will loose my window to return the tablet to new egg. I would hate to return the tablet if it is just a bad charger, since the tablet has no defects at all, and I just skinned the damn thing too.
Any other Ideas to fix this? otherwise, should I return the tablet or order another charger and cable online?

The freezer trick did nothing, So I again separated the 2 halves of the charger- this time I took a miniature pair of Nose pliers and *really* bent the 2 copper prongs in further ( I was really scared it would snap off) but after bending them inward and rejoining the 2 halves, it started charging again. What BS.
I will have to see if it works from now on or not. The problem was very intermittent to begin with. I am hoping this rules out that my tablet is bad....
My guess is that the copper contacts inside the AC charger must be separating when they heat and contract, causing intermittent / loss of contact.
I wouldn't be suppressed if this problem starts to happen all over the place to others... its just a matter of when. PISS POOR DESIGN BY ASUS OF THIS CHARGER.
I will update again, once I know the problem does not return.

Problem Returned
The Problem returned . tablet stopped charging at 51 percent. adapter plugged in but software says "not charging"
I Am Returning my tablet back to new egg for a refund. I am done with this.
For all I know, it could be a problem with the battery and have nothing to do with the charger. It's just not worth it any more.
I AM VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. I really loved the tablet....
I won't buy another one from Asus. I will wait a few more months and get a different brand with ICS.
this happened to me after I applied the new update. Very confused. I am trying the freezer method now but I feel like that will not work. I have also been charging my galaxy nexus with it so I am thinking maybe it disrupted it but it was charging this morning. HELP PLEASE!

Did you resolve your issue?
I contacted Asus, and I swear, the people running tech support are Clueless.
The guy said, maybe its a bad charging port and said- ship it back to asus for repair... I tend to think it is software related..... I won't ship it back and they said they will not replace it with another one, so I will get a refund instead. If anyone has seen this or knows anything, please help.

I think the charger is poorly made. My first transformer did that and I had to buy a new adapter. Of course my transformer broke later (by my kid) now I have an extra adapter for my prime. Smell the adapter and see if it smells like it's burnt...my previous one burnt out I think cause it had a burnt smell to it.

After aprroximatelhy 40 days, my Prime would not longer charge using the power adapter, although I could still charge it by plugging it in to the usb port on any of my PCs. So, I figured the adapterr was bad and I purchased a new one at Office Depot.
The new unit came with a cable. Just out of curiosity, I tried using the new adapter with my old cable, and guess what ... it Prime wouldn't charge. So, I tried the new cable with the old (presumably bad) adapter, and it charged fine.
its odd that the old cable charges the unit when plugged into a usb port, but not the power adapter.
I mention my scenario in case anyone else runs into a simiilar situation. A new cablee is alot cheaper than a new adpater/cable package.
So glad I am getting a refund for this piece of junk right before I went to package my Prime up to return it my charger stopped charging my dock and or tablet so the charger itself must be faulty...... I imagine everyones will die soon enough what a lack of quality control all around with the Prime

Failure rates on the Primes is less than 1% according to Gary from Asus. The chargers are the same chargers that have been used since the TF101 days.

And again, guys, don't just take Gary for his word, statistics are easily molded-as-needed; I don't dislike Gary, I'm not saying he isn't helping or telling what he believes to be true (I'm glad ASUS at least has a voice around, albeit a marketing one), but isn't it a little early to have concrete figures on the defect rates?
Surely retailers haven't finished processing their numerous returns, and I doubt this figure accounts for working Primes with minor defects or single defective parts/features.
And this figure absolutely does not account for the lack of functioning GPS seen in units that have it listed; they removed it from the spec sheet probably for this exact kind of statement...

I am assuming you are talking strictly about the charger then because the failure rate of something bring wrong with the Prime has to be around 50%

No. Gary stated failure rates of the Prime are below 1%. Well within acceptable standards.

Well then this doesnt include the lockup issues because theres no way thats accurate this 1% must only include devices with some real hardware failure not all the other issues everyone is complaining about Asus probably considers this stuff "working as expected" when in reality its crap for us users.

TAblet wont charge thru outlet but thru dock

Hello everyone,
I have my 32GB TF201 with docking that I purchased 3 weeks ago. After I purchased I was able to charge my table directly thru outlet twice and once thru the dock. This week the tablet ran out of battery. I plugged it to the outlet with an empty battery and yellowish light was on. In the morning (after 6 hours of charging) I checked and the light was still yellowish. I said 'what the hell' and left home for work. When I came back I checked and saw that the battery was only charged to ~9%. I re-checked the outlet and it was not charging. The battery icon appears when I plug the cable but the status is 'Not charging' and it actually is not charging. I could then charge the dock thru the same outlet and usb cable up to 100%. I also could charge the tablet thru the dock's battery. the only problem is between the charger and the tablet itself. I will still take it to the service but I can still listen to ideas to check in the weekend.

You probably have a busted charge port on the tablet itself. Try plugging the tablet to the computer and see if it registers. If not, more than likely the charge port on the tablet is broken.

that was the one thing I did not check and I will today. but the tablet is being charged from the dock that is connected thru the same port.
I am having the same no charging issue, but I do not have a dock. The device recognizes the computer just fine when I plug into that, but into the wall, I get nothing. Even when connected to the computer, all the connection info pops up (usb debugging, asus sync, etc) but it does not charge. Problem started this morning.

sorry to hear that but still good to know that I am not the only one I will update this thread when and if I get a response from the service. please let me know if you find the reason or a solution to this problem

Okay, I first had this issue last night. Unplugging and plugging it back in fixed it at the time. Then this morning, I couldn't get it to charge at all (replugging it in multiple times) via AC or USB (though it did recognize the other USB things like it should). I managed to find a dock in stock nearby finally and picked one up today. Plugging the tablet into the dock charges off the dock like it should, and plugging in the dock charges it like it should. Now, miraculously, when I unplug the tablet from the dock and plug it back into the wall via AC, it works again.
So, don't know what exactly the issue is, or how exactly to fix it, but at least it seems to have fixed itself for the moment. And, now I have the dock if this happens again
hey there. i took the tablet to the service but to my luck the unit is flagged as 'defective on arrival' and I had to return it. I guess it was a ahrdware issue. I could not take a new one since the reseller was out of stock of TF-201. I am waiting for it to become available.
Wow - my tablet would not charge at all last night as I ran out of battery. I tried all the outlets in my hotel room and my PC, but it just seemed like the charge port was dead. I noticed that the trim around the charge port was a bit deformed, so the plastic part that abuts the bezel was not straight.
Anyways - I get to the office this morning and plug it in and now its charging - whew! This is eventually going for RMA since the HDMI is completely dead, and now it does seem the charge port is a bit loose. I am concerned it will happen again just when I need it!
Very frustrated with the quality issues - it's just harshin' my buzz with this tablet.
I've switched through three different primes (with issues unrelated to this) but I seem to notice that all of the chargers are like this. It seems like a security feature or bug (not sure) but if you keep the charger plugged into the outlet, it auto shuts off the charging adapter after being plugged in for a prolong period of time. If you take the charger out, leave it unplugged for an hour or two, then plug it back in. It will work again. All three of the primes I got do this. So I just remember to unplug the charger and don't leave it plugged in and the issue doesn't seem to happen anymore.
btw just a heads up:
- USB won't charge on computers unless your usb port is usb 3.0. If your usb is 2.0 it will only charge on idle (which you won't be able to tell really)
- Dock won't charge the tablet unless the tablet runs around 75% battery (sometimes higher sometimes lower) its in the FAQ

This is the exact replication of what's occurring with my TF201 with the exception that it is still not charging directly plugged into the tablet after I remove from the dock.
weird trick
I think this might be due to how some devices recognize power, i have the same issue with my iPod touch. I found that if you take the charger wire with adapter attached and plug that into the tab, then plug that into the wall it should normally work. My brother was having this issue also with his dock not charging, and this method makes it work.
Well, called ASUS support and got an RMA to send it in. Apparently something's wrong.

C series serial number prime worked for three days now won't take a charge. Device will connect to pc or mac via cable, just won't take a charge. Any ideas for me?

there have been other threads about this. usually its the charger overheating and putting it in a ziplock in the freezer, resets it.
Mine did that too, just leave the charger and everything unplugged from the wall for a day. That fixed mine.

The other issue I've seen is poor contact in the USB socket on the wall adapter. I had to unplug the usb cable from the wall adapter. Then, look at the usb socket on the power adapter. The gold pins are the usb contacts. Directly opposite of them, there should be two silver prongs. I had to use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry both of them out a little further to ensure they did their job of firmly pushing the usb cable against the socket's usb contacts. Once I did, my TF201 was able to get charge from it, again.
If you decide to replace the wall charger, I believe Fry's and Office Depot stock the asus charger.
Same thing for me.. PC recognizes it as a media device, but will not charge with wall charger. Wall charger works with my HTC Phone, so it works.
I don't think it has anything to do with the latest update, since the Dock wont charge either, and there's no OS in that, right?
Just experienced this today. I have had it unplugged for about 10 hours now, we'll see if it charges.
I had the same issue few days after I got my prime. I connected my sgs to the charger and it worked. Then connected the prime and voila-works.

C1. There are some good suggestions here I need to try.
Wrap it in a towel and bang it against a table. That will fix it usually. Then get some pc heatsinks and some arctic silver adhesive and you can attach them to the charger to keep it from happening again.
The plug has two options, 5V (standard for USB?) and 15V. I used the plug on my old HTC phone (Ozone) and then plugged it back into my Prime and it worked. Thanks for the great tips guys.
Since the charger works in two modes, I wonder if some charges became confused and started dishing out 5V when they should be dishing out 15V. Thoughts?

Hi, I got the same problem. The charger indeed seems to be stuck in the 5V mode, since, when plugged in the tablet does get charged, even though it is not indicated, but very slowly. It is charging as if it is plugged in to a pc.
I tried plugging it into (old) phones, but I still can't seem to get it to switch back to the 15V mode.
The freezer didn't help either.
Any other suggestions?
I waited about 4-5 hours before plugging into my old phone. My other suggestion is to allow the phone to charge for a short bit (30 minutes) unplug and wait, then plug into your Prime.
I have a feeling that its a transistor toggle that isn't flipping at the correct voltage.
I've had the same problem yesterday. In my case the problem was with the charge socket on the keyboard itself. Some copper pins were deformed and that stopped the device charging. I took a magnifying glass(also for checking if any of the copper pins are bend) and a small tool to bend them back. After this it charged again. Hope this helps.
My charger suddenly stopped working from today. The Prime is detecting the connection as the screen turns ON but it is not charging. I charged my sensation using the same adapter and USB cable and it is working fine. Why can I not charge Prime via PC like phone? Is it possible? I am in India and not sure if the power adapter is easily available as Prime is not yet launched in India.
Kindly suggest.

I've started to have this problem today, plug it in and it does come up with the charge icon but it doesn't charge - or doesn't seem to.
However I left it connected last night from midnight until 8am this morning and it went from 13% to 17% so it is charging VERY VERY slowly although the unit doesn't actual seem to think it is.
I have it plugged in to my phone right now and its working perfectly, I borrowed the charger to my g/f last night to charge her iphone and i'm thinking this might have done something to flip the voltage as since then it isn't working.
Anyone have any ideas on this??

But if the charger works fine when charging a phone it cant be the connection at fault..
It does seem to me that the power it is outputting has dropped especially the I managed to gain 5% over the course of a night where WIFI was off and screen was off even though the charge icon doesn't come up.
Is there a way of forcing the charger back in to 12v mode??

Eventually I messed up the cable that bad, that I've ordered a new one from ebay... but when I read this... I should have just banged the charger a few times... shait.

Has anyone actually ever managed to fix this problem? I've just contacted ASUS about it to see what they say - hopefully they'll ship me out a new charger plug or something, what a useless charger!!

[Q] HELP Transformer Prime Won't Charge via wall plug

My 3 day old prime will not charge via the power adapter, I tried bending the prongs, I tried freezing it thinking there may be a thermal cut off switch.
The cable i snot bad because my PC and MAC both see it via USB, I just can't get it to charge.
Any ideas would due greatly appreciated before i send it back to New Egg. It is a C Series Serial Number.

Check the power adapter. Mine had separated a little from the "brick". Once I snapped it back together it worked. My experience.

There have been a lot of people remarking on the wall charger going dead. Contact Asus or bring it back to the store.

Now that's weird !
How can a charger which came with the Tablet give an output power which is not enough to charge the Tablet which it has been made for? That does not add up.

Can it be something with the newest firmware update? I read something about that on another Android forum, but that was for the old Transformer.
But still, why then wouldn't it charge the dock, since there's no OS on there, is it? Would not have anything to do with a firmware update?
This charger crap is stupid....mine stopped and it wasn't even plugged in....freezer fixed it though

I recall reading somewhere that the Asus charger can put out 5 volts, or 11+ volts (11 + is required to charge the prime.) It could be that it is charging your phone because it is supplying the 5volts, but it may have something wrong with it and it is not putting out the 11+ volts required to charge the Prime.
My first Prime had this EXACT problem where it would no longer charge, and I returned it for a second one while under the return window- I believe the Asus chargers are just not very good and they are prone to failures.
When I received my second prime, I went out and Purchased a Radio Shack 12 volt wall charger, with a USB adapter that plugs into the transformer prime charging cable. The Radio shack charger is much better for me- no failures and it does not event get warm while charging- the tablet has worked fine for the last 2 months so far without issue.
If you are interested in the radio shack charger, see other posts made by me for specific part numbers. you can order online, or pickup in store at most locations.
Asus needs to do something about these wall chargers. They need to be re-designed so that they do not seperate, and do not require cartridge based adapters- this is a huge problem.
The primes biggest issue with " Prime reliability" is the wall charger IMO- More failures and returned units for this than anything else.
I love my Prime, and the radio shack charger works for me- good luck: and check all of your other options first before returning your tablet... there is a good chance it has to do with the charger itself.

Same over here...my wall charger broke inside a few weeks ago when i pushed the usb into it the wrong way so when i pulled it out it took the plastic surrounding the pins with it. ..the plastic was broken but there was still enough of it left to push it back in thus covering the pins the way it was...and now ( 2-3 weeks later) the charger stopped working and the cable no longer detects a PC when plugged in and the prime doesnt detect a PC either..the screen turns on when i plug the cable into the charger or PC but thats all it does...no charging indication or Sync notification..nothing. SO im hoping its the charger as thats what im going to buy on Friday with the cable and if not then I guess this tablet went from a nice fast beauty to a dead POS really quick..lets see....oh and ive tried the freezer, detach the charger methods and pushing the pins out on the port and its still 1 BIG FAIL...hoping for the best =) ...running icylicious BTW and this is a nice themed ROM..big ups to the dev

But still, when I plug it in, the charge-light on the dock is blinking, and the tab wont charge.. it turns it self on when I plug it in, but then I get a picture of a battery and then it shuts off....
Is the Prime broken, or is it still something to do with the charger?

The Prime will show the red battery once plugged into a charger when its completely dead..i would leave it charged for an hour or 2 and try turning it on again...it SHOULD work..if it doesnt then yeah I would say its the Prime unless that charger doesnt work either...at that point I would probably give up on life J/K!!!
Same problem here. The adapter stopped charging my Prime. I was able to find the original Asus Transformer charger at a local Office Depot (last one in stock). That works fine and charges. I don't understand how that charger can just fail like that. If there's a fix please post. TIA

These problems have been around since the TF101 as the 101 & 201 use the exact same charger. It evidently isn't a big enough issue to address.
I finally found a store where they were selling the charger (Office Max) and they only had 1 charger left! ..This was after I called bestbuy,hhgregg, brandsmart, radioshack...I even went to the ASUS ordering site and they were all out...Amazon was out, Ebay was my only bet or so i thought..I called OfficeMax as a last resort as I didnt even think about that store at first. Now My Prime is back to shape..I may need to leave it charging for a little while after 100% as the battery is draining a little faster than usual and Ive been "trickle charging" for a week already. Plus this new charger is only a 3FT if that so the cord is shorter than the 6ft I had originally with the Prime. If you guys are looking try Office Max and ask for the Asus Transformer charger not the Asus transformer PRIME as majority of all stores dont got it, never have and probably never will. Good luck!
