[Q] Warcraft 3/ Dota port android? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How many people have heard of the game called dota. It is a map on warcraft 3 frozen throne.
Info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_the_Ancients
Defense of the Ancients (commonly
known as DotA) is a custom scenario
for the real-time strategy video
game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
and its expansion, Warcraft III: The
Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon
of Strife" map for StarCraft. The
objective of the scenario is for each
team to destroy the opponents'
Ancients, heavily guarded structures
at opposing corners of the map.
Players use powerful units known as
heroes, and are assisted by allied
heroes and AI-controlled fighters
called "creeps". As in role-playing
games, players level up their heroes
and use gold to buy equipment
during the mission.
Defense of the Ancients pits two teams of
players against each other: the Sentinel and
the Scourge. Players on the Sentinel team are
based at the southwest corner of the map,
and those on the Scourge team are based at
the northeast corner. Each base is defended
by towers and waves of units which guard the
main paths leading to their base. In the center
of each base is the "Ancient", a building that
must be destroyed to win the game. Each human player controls one Hero, a
powerful unit with unique abilities. In DotA,
players on each side choose one of 104 heroes,
each with different abilities and tactical
advantages over other heroes. The
scenario is highly team-oriented; it is difficult
for one player to carry the team to victory
alone. Defense of the Ancients allows up to
ten players in a five-versus-five format and an
additional two slots for referees or observers,
often with an equal number of players on each
side.

Port warcraft III to android? I don't think so

sorry had to post this in a dota thread

if im not wrong warcraft 3 does not take up too much memory. Maybe with the devs magical fingers it will happen.
I have an idea. Maybe the devs could create a software that would open warcraft 3 maps, wc3 files. Then we could replace the maps with whatever we wanted to play. This coulde be easier than porting the whole game in one app.

: ) Developed by my fellow countrymen. : )

Without source you would either need to emulate Warcraft 3 (insanely slow performance) or write a complete replacement from scratch (insanely long development time)
Without Blizzard doing it themselves or releasing Warcraft 3's source, it won't happen.

Warcraft 3 take arround 250 - 300+ MB of RAM so....
I am sure if that was ported to tablet the memory will be slightly reduced but... really not sure about "now" if it's possible
beware the specs said oftenly RAM 1GB or else on the phone, tablets... but in real... it's
1GB - OS ram usage - application ... means often you got barelly 30-40% of what you read on the paper.
But still if that will be... then I will be happy to play on a tablet

So many good memories playing dota will have to keep an eye on this one but definitely not holding my breath.
Might become more likely when google moves to x86

what happened this game.. update please....

[Q] ZARCH!!

Zarch!
One of my old time favourite pastimes as a teenager.. Basically defender in 3D..
I noticed someone has done a linux remake of it..
But how, if at all, can I install a .tar file to my Streak?? or how could it be modified to run??
Quoted as " maybe better known as "Virus" on the Commodore Amiga. Linux Zarch is one of the very few freely available 3D graphics games available for UNIX/Linux that offer a very decent performance without needing 3D hardware support. "
Hmm, NO 3D support required?? Sounds like a winner.... The archimedes was an ARM based Acorn machine..
Is there an emulator anywhere?? we could run frontier and tempest 2000 maybe too if there was...
Our massive screen would be a great home for this title!!
Does anyone have any constructive advice here please??
1987
"Zarch" was written in three months in 1987 by David Braben as a launch title on Acorn's Archimedes series of computers. Another game, "Lander" was bundled with the machine, which used a cut down version of the landscape from Zarch as a demonstration of the machine's power. It became synonymous with the Archimedes, since it was featured in almost every review of the machine, and is apparently still the best selling title of all time on the Archimedes. The game consisted of a weird craft flying over a rolling patchwork quilt landscape, and many other games since (Zeewolf etc) have copied this technique.
Zarch was exceedingly well reviewed at the time, as most other games were either 2D platformers, or wire-frame 3D - hence the now seemingly amazing tag line on the cover of ACE magazine (now Edge) SOLID 3D - the future of games? Zarch was reviewed with a score of 979 - the highest rating ACE had given at that time (and only subsequently bettered by Virus at 981)
1988
"Virus" built on Zarch and was published by British Telecom (under the Firebird name) for the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, and IBM PC in 1988. It was an instant success as many people had seen "Zarch" on the Archimedes but had not been able to play it on the more popular computers of the time. "Virus" won "16 bit Game of the Year" at the Computer Industry's InDin awards of 1988 and was later (incredibly) ported to the Spectrum in the following year by Steve Dunn. Most magazines gave it their top rating, and it got the highest ever score of 981 in the industry's leading magazine "ACE".
Chris Sawyer (now of Rollercoaster Tycoon fame) did the PC port, and later went on to work on PC "Elite+" and PC "Frontier: Elite II".
Zarch and Virus very much raised the ante for games on the 16 bit platform. It was one of the first solid 3D games. It was the first to have 3D lighting effects and shadowing. In fact it generated the shadow silhouettes on the fly - also a first.
1998
"V2000" is the sequel to Virus. It was published by Grolier Interactive on PC and Playstation in October 1998 and was very well reviewed (PC Zone Classic 90%, and five full pages in Edge magazine). It then went on to be one of only three nominees for best game of the preceding few years in the first BAFTA Awards in 1998.
In V2000 the player has to save 30 worlds from a virus menace that has infected them, and from the creatures that brought this virus. The game very much shows it's traditional gaming heritage in that the later worlds are very difficult to complete, but contain a feast of novel game play features. There has been some criticism of the difficulty, but also huge praise from hard-core gamers.
I guess that's a no then.........
However My love for my streak is utterly redeemed!!
Found a ROM for the UAE4DROID app and it plays very well apart from the lack of fire button.. sad.gif
Sound is stable and the gfx are smooth as.
I had to enable the keyboard to press space after I had kickstarted it, which took me to the loader,
from there it was just a case of using the onscreen fire button as the thruster.
I just dragged onscreen to pitch and yaw the ship.. it works a treat and is a beauty to control!
I'll do a youtube filmy if anyone is interested..
And there's so many amiga games to try yet... sensible soccer and cannon fodder are next..
along with Elite and Frontier.. shame the onscreen keyboard isn't configurable and smaller..
I wonder if it will work with a bluetooth keyboard.. I'd be keen to hear from anyone trying it.

Yes this is about Gaming...

I'm sure most of you have seen the game demo's shown on the Prime, including Riptide, Shadowgun, Glowball ...etc, I am yet to see Tegra games such as the following:
Galaxy on Fire 2 - this should look amazing!
Shine Runner - hoverboat racing
HISTORY Great Battles Medieval - this was first tested on the nvidia quad-core reference tablet, which revealed how smooth a strategy game like this could be played
Zen Pinball - funky twist on pinball
Vendetta Online - another space game, but centred around MMO
Bang Bang Racing
Dark Meadow - another game to look forward to. Good visuals and an interesting storyline
I really hope other gaming company's head towards Android development in the near future, the mear fact that there are thousands of roms for various emulators and can be played with a ps3/xbox remote is a huge +
However I would like to see more PC like games possibly ported onto Android, for example Homeworld/Homeworld Cataclysm, Command & Conquer series, Half-life/Portal series, Borderlands...to name a few. I'm not sure where the community stands on this type of development, I'm sure it's not an easy task, but it has to be possible as it would grab alot of interest. I'm not saying necessarily the brand new releases, but at least some of the classic's that we know and love which would be ideal for some mobile gaming.
Just a thought, but share your ideas and suggestions
Porting from x86 environment (PC) is not an easy thing. And good games need good controls, even though we are at the point where gamepads are finally supported i dont think devs can make games that depend on it. So alot of games wont really work with touchscreen controls.
I think the best thing we can do if we want good games is pay for the ones that will come out on tegra3, so the companies make some money out of it.
And if you count alle the Tegra2+Tegra3 games + gameloft + other companies + emulator you get alot of good games already available. This Tablet is not thought as a replacment for my Desktop gaming pc.
Get onlive app and you can play all the great pc games.

NVidia has collaborated with a lot of game development teams (as you can see in most games credits), and Asus is the manager of the "Republic of Gamers" community. It should be time for them to push the developers to create good Android games. Anyway, a good game usually means more than a year of development. Providing how long has been Android alive, and how long has it been a smooth enough OS... my guess is game developers will start moving towards it but games will take its time to come.

I'm hoping for a Torchlight or Torchlight 2 port or version that works it's way to Android because I feel Action RPG would work great on a touch screen and since Torchlight has a netbook mode I feel it would run awesome on Tegra 2-3.
I'm also interested in Onlive but I'm concerned about bandwidth because I have a 6mb DSL connection and my wife and kids use netflix as the primary source of TV. I guess I could head over to evil charter but then the price doubles...
Anyway, I feel that we will get some AAA titles for android in 2012 and it will spike even further from there... I expect some good augmented reality games and some 3d action from Nvidia as well. =)

When Google merges Chrome into Android it should get much better. At least we would get Bastion. I see Android on the forefront on games on mobile device with stuff like Tegra, but with different capabilities per device there is not much incentive to make a really spectacular game that only runs on a few devices.

Yes!! I got Onlive on my Prime and used my Wiimote. Very awkward and had to download the wiimote conroller app. I plan to get the Onlive contoller or get a wireless controller.
The new Batman looka amazing on the Onlive app! I had no lag either. I got 1 month FREE Player pack Bundle, which is normally $9.99. with a promo code from Chevy. Awesome app.
Riptide gp looks incredible on the prime and is fun to play. The tegra 3, does make a difference.

Im looking forward to playing some GTA 3 (with revised graphics) on the Prime

The games you mentioned are OK. The highlights are Dark Meadow and the Pc games you listed. I'm looking for more hardcore oriented games now. I had ShineRunner on iPad. It was cool but same ol really. Riptide much better although same people make it. I'm getting tired of the kiddy oriented simple games. Bring Metro 2033 or Batman Arkham city. Or would love to see some over the top FPS, maybe something from Broken Sword series, or maybe a tegra3 version of Dead Space.
Like you said, a really good, in depth game will take at least a year to develop. Only thing is with as fast as these tablets come out with newer, more powerful hardware, the development has to be shorter. Unless made in advance to run on future hardware specs also. Until I seen OnLive, I've been sleeping on PC games. I was always more of console type gamer. I cant front though, the games I've seen for Pc are sick as a Mofo on OnLive. PC versions of console games usually better or better graphics n extras. Mobile platform gaming needs more hardcore oriented games. Games that take a good amount of time to beat. Has to be more in depth. I'd love for Bethesda to make an Elder scrolls version for us. I miss playing that game. I had it when it came out for xbox one, the Morrowind version.
I think OnLive may be our only access to these type of gsmes till developers start producing these type games. ShadowGun is cool but I have it for iPad n just about beat it. I need more than that. Bladeslinger looks cool but very similar to infinity blade, which I have infinity blade 2 already. I want more games like Dead Space. That game is very well put together n always scare the sh€£ outta me when playing. That's how into I be, especially when playing with headphones on. I understand a tablet is supposed tp be pick up n go type device, but we need a more I intimate gaming experience. For some people, this tablet will be the only form of gaming they have. Like me. I no longer have console systems. My iPad is my sole device to fulfill my gaming desires. I have all the best games, IMO. So along with being a productivity device, I hope the Prime can continue my love of gaming also. I know IOS has way more games, but I have e feeling the tegra3 will open doors to some serious games to come. We need more unreal and doom3 type engine powered gsmes. Those usually produce the best visuals and gameplay. I like the more simple games also but I'm really looking for games to really make you think and put up a great challenge..

I know right. I love those type action/horror games. I've never had a game like dead space scare me so much before..lol..n I loved it. Just looking for more engaging games that really pull you into the experience.
Grand Theft Auto 3 is coming this month, I thought tomorrow but not sure. I saw that added to the Tegra Zone today and Soulcraft
For me the best game is Dizzy, but you don't need Tegra3 for that, I know. Still, I hope more games like that will be available (and more Dizzy games get ported).

This was also said about Tegra3:
- Sébastien Deguy, CEO and Founder at Allegorithmic
“Tegra 3’s quad-core processor and 12-core GPU allows developers to port PC and console game titles using BitSquid Tech for the same great experience on any device. From a hard-core gamer’s customized PC to a phone or tablet with Tegra, you’ll get identical game play and buttery smooth graphics, anywhere any time."
- Benjamin Lee, Managing Director at Blowfish Studios
”Thanks to Tegra 3′s fantastic GPU performance we were able to use the same quality textures in Zombie Driver THD as on the PC. The outstanding quad-core CPU performance makes it possible to support Tegra game development in parallel to other high-end platforms.”
Some more details:
The GPU is also significantly more powerful than the Tegra 2 GPU, with up to 3x performance, while also adding other graphics features such as dynamic lighting, which they say no other current mobile GPU has that. Dynamic lighting makes for much more realistic environments and gaming experiences.
The game developers working on Tegra 3 games say that the 4 CPU’s help a lot with in-game damage effects, animated textures, weather effects and so on. So don’t be surprised if games made for Tegra 3 actually look better than other games made for other GPU’s, even if those GPU’s manage to get higher score in synthetic benchmarks (I’m looking at you A5/PowerVR SGX543Mp2).
Now this is very promising details!

Piracy. ?????
there has been couple of years of the generation of the iPhone...
that's why the iphone has more games suppot..
but now Android is getting more and more support
Piracy and Fragmentation.
Yes, I'm aware that there are strong cases that both those are mythical shortcomings, but they are the perception nonetheless.
Buy hox, Sony games soon

Most games released on iOS end up on Android now, just after a delay. But like other replies, there's big piracy thanks to native sideloading ability

Google Play license check on start up, problem solved. This can be kind of a pain for wifi only devices, maybe an email registration code could be used as well with only periodic online checks. Paid software still exists on Windows (desktop) despite it being just as easy to copy and load a program on another computer. Everything has some sort of online registration these days.
The real reason games appear on iOS quicker is because thinks are all optimized for one GPU type and up until recently one screen ratio. Many android games seem to have to port graphics to each GPU type (adreno, powervr, tegra, etc). I'm not familiar with how game deving works on android, but you'd think Google would have some universal graphics method like DirectX where GPU type doesn't matter.

There are 2 point of views, where you can estimate which is better: Android or iOS.
1) Developer/coder/publisher point of view. Here, in general, Android platform is more comfortable due to:
- More easy start develop and test application (in comparison with iOS)
- More wide range of available (and not ewxpensive) devices to test. In the same time this is negative factor: you need to ensure that your app runs fine on any device with any screen resolution.
- More adequate SDK help and a lot of resources in web for developers (Some Apple Help texts on their developer site has errors!)
- Post-moderation of uploaded applications (Apple uses pre-moderation model)
- Freedom for app design. Apple has large HIG document, and can refuse your app just because "it is not so fun"... Google Play not!
2) Seller point of view. Here iOS platfom is only and the best selection. I mean typical developer, not market sharks like Gameloft, etc...
There are a lot of statistics stated that ios market is better google in times! This kills all Android positive factors.

[Q] AAA Android games out there?

I'm just wondering if their are any AAA android games out there. I'm tired of just downloading the games where its just puzzles or levels with randomized things. Are there any games out there that have some story and epic gameplay?
The only game that I go back to after 2 years with an SGSI and now a Note II is PoolBreakPro. Download the free version, get some snooker practice in, purchase the Pro version and challenge the online world. I gaurantee every game will be a different challenge. It's pretty impossible to get board of and very addictive if you challenge your fiends.
You may also like The Little Crane That Could.
Both these have some of the best physics engines I've seen on android.

friv games online game

Online games can be classified broadly into two areas. The first category is the game, which is directly on the structure and is easy to play. The second type of game, which is a bit more complex and has a theme. Players need to use awareness and his intuition to unravel the mystery of the game.
Whether it’s a flash game or a simple game, online, games are always in search of the most updated website and rewarding. So games site authorities are coming up with the best of services to attract traffic. In today’s world where people have to pay even to drink a collection of online games absolutely free for all seems like a dream offer
When you search the web for something to do when you’re carrying in your work and you’re bored, you will be happy to find that there are many online games via the Internet nowadays. In fact, there actually is a new online game being given each day all throughout the year.
Children often get bored very easily and needs something that can hold their interest for a long time by its variations. Games are no new concept that most children will enjoy. In the new friv 2 games, you’ll see more than a thousand free games. Some of his costume up games comes with upbeat music to capture the sense of the joy of the players. The theme of the dress up games may vary such as princesses, countries, fairies, holidays, rabbit, pop stars, prom dates, and more. For those who do not have the slightest clue of what abcya is all about, it is basically a site that is equipped with an excess of online games. Many sites offer free online games, but to play free yepi 2 games are very popular on the internet despite the fact that there are so many sites out there that will provide the same kind of perk. The site will provide more free gaming experience worry so people do not have to fret about viruses and spyware-map is usually on the ground to see another game.
To support the popular notion that an idle mind is the devil’s advocate, play y8 games will help in the redevelopment of the important functions of the brain because it is put into running back. When you are playing, the brain is stimulated which will lead to an increase of blood flow hence improving your memory.
Besides, no matter how ironic it is, playing free online y3 games helped in your tired body. Prime then will make bigger hands and fingers just before each game as to ensure greatest flexibility. Almost all parts of our body will be put to a test like our ears that will work well to clutch and guidance. In the core, online gaming is not just a trend for the enjoyment of players but this is also a way to perk up health conditions of the body. To be sure, this article was able to expand our mind from the limited notion we have had with online gaming. So, now, open a new tab and visit unblocked games for an online gaming experience unlimited! In fact, kizi games exist in the online world for much of the year pretty since it was first created which is just a proof of how many people will vote for over pbs kids its competitors.
