Tried flashing my phone - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've just tried to flash my phone to run Android but I think I've made a bit of a bodge of it.
I got it to SPL-1.66.0000 then it was showing that it was running that HSPL on the Bootloader now it's just showing SPL-1.66.0000.
I cannot start the phone I get a purple circle that's it like I always did just before starting the phone and it usually goes past that and into Windows.
I can get into Bootloader but I've no idea what to flash, what to flash it to and how to do it.
If there is anymore information you want to know then please do ask It'd be very greatful if someone can lend us a hand getting this running.
Thanks

I've now actually read the instructions and found out that it wipes the phone, however I've got Magldr installed but I cannot open it I'm running SPL-2.08.HSPL
However, again I get the Purple Circle, I've tried pressing the "Phone" button to get into Magldr as I was told, I've found another one which told me to press both UP/DOWN Volume which sent me to another Recovery place.
Any help would be great.

What exactly is your target?
What ROM was originally on your device (branded or non-branded)?

I bought the HTC HD2 today - It WAS locked to T-Mobile now unlocked, however unlike other T-Mobile HD2's I've seen it hasn't got branding on the top BUT did have Branding on the boot up.
So
Non-Branded Casing
Branded Software
My Target
To run Android 2.3

I think a good start for you is here: Klick!
You will have to decide if you want to run Android from SD card or NAND.
Running Android from SD card means you don´t have to delete the Windows Mobile ROM, many people like the "dual boot" option. In this case, you should read the instructions of the ROM chef how to install.
In short, if you want to install Android in NAND memory, you must do this:
1) Install HSPL (if not already done)
2) Install Radio ROM 2.15.50.04
3) Install MAGLDR 1.3
4) Install your Android ROM
If you follow the link, you´ll find more links to step-by-step instructions.

Stuck on BL Screen, no sync, can't upgrade.

My phone came across some issues. Don't ask how. I have a few issues and heard this is place to go. Here goes.
I tried to turn my phone on.
It vibrated, the green light turns on, but no display.
So I turned it on to the Bootloader screen (it's the only display I have). It reads:
"TITA100 MFG
SPL-2.40.Olipro
CRLD-9"
I connect to the computer, and I hear the chime to confirm its connection.
However, I open Mobile Device Center and it doesn't show that a phone is connected. I go to to Device Manager, and I see that there is a "Microsoft USB Device" connected, which is my phone.
So in all, when I try to flash a new ROM, it tells me there's a connection error. However, it knows my phone is there because the phone's screen changes. HOWEVER, when the flash is operating, it tells me what ROM its flashing to. It does not tell me the image I have though, which leads me to suspect I don't have a ROM at all on my phone.
I'm dead confused as to what to do. Everyone has an actual OS to use and to connect to Mobile Center (activesync). So...help me out if you can?
I don't want my little baby to die.
...come on...breath Mogul...it'll be ok.
You have unlocked your phone and have the 2.40 bootloader installed which is suitable for the 3.35.xx and later based ROM builds. You must also match your chosen ROM with a suitable radio.
Activesync will only make a connection when you are booted into Windows Mobile. For flashing, that connection is only necessary to unlock/lock your phone and change the bootloader.
You are fine, but are not telling us what you are trying to flash to or what information you are following to flash. If you read the sticked threads on the front of the forum and check out and follow the instructions posted in the Titan Wiki for upgrading to the latest GPS/EDVO Rev A ROMs, you should find all the links and information you need to successfully upgrade your phone.
Thank you very much.
I thought I was stuck.
I think I'm going to upgrade to the latest ROM and try to get it running. This leads me to a new question:
Is there any special step I need to take when wanting to Flash using the SD Card? The ROM, let's say 3.35 Alltel. I put it in the card and it says "Loading", then it shows the number "00068002" in red up top, and then the blue words "No Image File!" appears.

You are missing out a few steps in telling us what you have done. Tell us exactly what you are doing and with what type of card.
Alrighty.
I have a 1 Gig card, FAT32 1024.
I'm trying to get the "Alltel 3.35.671.9 ROM".
I read that I am to flash that ROM first, but like I said, the progress bar shows up on my phone when flashing with the .exe program (gray background, progress bar up top), and then it gives me an error message and I have to reset my phone and go through the tedious "recovery" process.
When I try to use the SD Card to install the Alltel image 3.35.671.9, it says Loading, and then No Image!, and it takes be back to the BL screen.
Is that enough?
Thank alot.
As you have apparently have a suitable SDcard, you don't need to bother with the Alltel ROM. You can directly flash a suitable discrete radio ROM (links in the Wiki to 3.37.20 & 3.39.10). Less hassle that way and the best method for future radio changes without affecting your data or OS ROM. With the CDMA Radio upgraded you can then repeat with the SDCard routine to flash to one of the later third party ROM or kitchen build of your choice. After that, all should be fine to boot into the new OS.
Remember that the ROM file copied to the root of the SDcard must be renamed TITAIMG.nbh.
Damn it all.
I put the card in with the Radio in it, named "TITAIMG.nbh", and it only reads "loading" then "No image file!"
I tried both Radios, and my card is fine.
Still no luck.
Geez...what a disappointment. Thanks for your help though. I feel safer knowing there's hope for the thing.
Did you format the card into FAT32 from your PC?
Oh well, I guess again resort to using the latest Alltell or Sprint ROM via the USB to upgrade your radio. Rather than using their installation routine you can again extract the ROM image but now manually initiate the ROM Update Utility as described in the Wiki.
Thanks again for the tips and info.
Sadly, flashing by SD always gives me a "No Image File!" message, and flashing by USB always gived me a 262 Update Error message, no matter how many times/ports/resets I do.
I guess I'm stuck then.

** FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND HELP WHEN FLASHING **
1. What the benifits are of flashing a new rom?
Flashing a New Rom basically gets rid of all the garbage thats included on Stock Roms and Flashes a Clean, Optimized, Fully loaded Rom that will squeeze every ounce of speed and stability from your phone. Chefs usually include all the programs you are ever likely to need and because the Rom has been cleaned out you are left with more memory to play around with.
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.
Wow, Great job Mskip!
Just wat i was looking for.
A couple questions though...
1. These instructions will also work on the Fuze, right?
2. Once the phone is done flashing and it is booting up, we are sopposed to HARD RESET when we get to the Stylus Config part?...I didnt know that...ive read some other tutorials, and this step isnt included? ?
Fuze, yes. Sprint, no. There's no Hard-SPL for CDMA phones yet I believe.
Thanks a lot! just what I was looking for (the bit about not needing CID unlock to flash roms.. just hardspl).
gj, mskip, but shouldn't you be clear that your instructions and links are only for GSM Raphaels???? As of the past few weeks the flood gates are now open among 5 North American carriers for the CDMA version of the Raphael. No sense in encouraging confusion and hassles from those less in the know.
There is a release for an unlocker for the CDMA phones, but after a quick search some may mistakenly find themselves to your links and info here.

Its the ENTER (center) Button. I have amended the instructions to make that part easier to understand.
might sound stupid, but I think you should say what RUU means and what it is...
first time I flashed hardSPL I couldnt find what this RUU means (while reading steps before flashing).
I started flashing without knowing what it was, when I opened the .exe its title was self-explaining, but its hard to know before starting... because the .exe name is not RUU or something like that
Sorry for bad english!

Bricked Fuze?
I was using OliPro Rapheal Unlocker and seemed to have bricked myself. (my fault, I understand the risk) I'm not a total newbee, but first time I ran into this. Any ideas how to get past a Upgrade ROM code error? Updated from 8525 to Fuze.

I dont recognize the SPL version in your signature is it from Oli's Sim/CID Unlocker?
Can you explain exactly what you have done to your phone and when you bricked it please. Also can you load your Rom up or does it get stuck.
Have you tried flashing the HardSPL from Step1?

If you flashed the hardspl, then you should be fine and should not have done any lasting damage. You didn't read the part of the instructions that tell you that you must first flash a 1.01 version of the att radio. You can get that here:
http://www.rapidspread.com/file.jsp?id=v3q7csfizy
If you don't then you get the rom upgrade error. Just put your phone into bootloader (tri-color screen), and flash that radio. Also, as always, questions about specific roms, apps, etc should be posted in the thread they came from. That is where all the people most knowledgable about the subject are most likely to read it.
@Mskip, i think that SPL is for his 8525 not his fuze.

I did know and realize that, and your walkthrough doesn't give instructions for that either, but rather for flashing a ROM using the mSD method.
I was referring to flashing a new ROM from the MicroSD card and getting this error message in the HardSPL Bootloader screen. The ROM image has the proper name (RAPHIMG.nbh) but isn't seen by the OliNex bootloader.

[Q] Unable to flash any ROM!

Hello,
I'm about six hours into the process of trying to revive a nonfunctional HD2 that I purchased. I'm going batty!
Here is my status:
1) have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL
2) Have downloaded a few different roms (Chucky, TMO official, Energy) but they either get stuck at 0% or 9% (the highest it's gotten)
I'm getting pretty good at pulling the battery - it's like a new skill I never hoped to have!
I'm getting pretty frustrated because I've read about a hundred different posts on this site and I see that people are getting around this, but I'm starting to wonder if my phone has an issue that I can't resolve?
The phone doesn't boot up at all - it just says "Upgrade ROM code error, Please try again". Prior to my goofing with it, it just got stuck at the "Stick Together" screen. (Unwittingly bought it that way)
If I use the HSPL3_PKG to install/remove HSPL, it only works (connects to the phone) about one out of ten times, and out of the ~ten times I have gotten it to work, it only completed twice with a "We Hacked It" screen. The rest of the time it errors out just as I think it's getting the job done.
If I boot to the bootloader screen, I can put the USB cable in and see it change from Serial to USB (I've tried the thick and thin cables as some have suggested and haven't noticd a difference yet)
Then I kick of a rom update using the update utility that comes packed with it, and either the update process stops at 0% or it has made it all the way to 9%.
I'm in a position to get a replacement from TMO via the person who bought it (two for one, wife didn't like it, I bought it off of him) but I would rather not.
Any suggestions?

Once you have Hard-SPL on the device you don't need to worry about that anymore. Flashing Roms and radios will not overwrite it, that's what makes it "Hard". To make sure it's on there go into bootloader and it should show 2.08.hspl.
As for the radio, for TMOUS, just make sure it's a x.xx.50.xx radio (not a .51) and you'll be fine. If you have radio 2.10.50.xx you shouldn't have to change it.
So now I would try downloading one of the stock shipped Tmo ROMs (2.13 or 2.14). Then remove Sim and SD and go into bootloader, connect USB to PC and make sure it says USB on the device (not serial) and run the ROM Update Utility (RUU.exe). See if that works.
i also got this problem ,will try ur method n c
after hspl ,cant flash finish radio 2.14 it says ERROR (290) INVALID COMMAND.

You need HSPL..
HSPL done ,i tried a lot of files only Miri & Dinik n Duttys Leo Sense file can b flash successfully ,it went into menu once but now hang at htc startup again,,is this hardware problem?
i had the same problem last week. Drove me nuts.
i found there are more than one version of HPSL 3.
you have to download the latest one. for more info,
read my posts at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789506&page=18
So you need HardSPL3 (the version is DarkForces Team HardSPL3 by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010)
If it still doesnt work, take a photo and post your screen
Still no go...
I have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL, the latest version I could find.
I just tried to flash RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_3.14.531.0_Radio_15.42.50.09U_2.14.50.04_LEO_1.5_Ship and it consistently flakes out at 8%.
I charged the phone all night, booted to the tricolor screen, kicked off the update as an administrator in Win7, the phone got to 8% and then the update flaked out on the PC - "The ROM update encountered communication errors during the update process" (Error [276])
I genuinely think that this phone is bunk - I'm just going to have the fellow I bought it from call in for a warranty replacement.
Thanks for your help, everyone...
SD card flash...
Hi,
I could not see it anywhere in this thread, and also I'm not certain if it is possible on a HD2. But on my xperia I'm usualy flashing from a SD card, copy the image over rename it as KOVSIMG.NBH (guess it would be something like LEOROM.NBH).
Than by pressing (and holding) volume down + power button while the device is off going to the boatloader screen which detects the card (must be inserted and flash from it IF there is the correct file loaded on the card.
Dude,
Did you actually download the HardSPL3 version from DarkForces Team?
If not, dont second guess anything. And if it works, you'll get your phone back.
The file name to download is "HSPL3_PKG.exe". Its by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010
If you downloaded the right version. it will support ALL LEO types, and all the SPL versions below:
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
you just select which SPL version to install in the Choose SPL screen. This version also disables the CID Check.
Dont knock it before you try it ..

Hi,
I could not see it anywhere in this thread, and also I'm not certain if it is possible on a HD2.

Yes you are correct you can flash via SD card. You need a 4GB or lower SD card. This is not to say other higher GB SD card will not work, it is just that it has been stated many times the higher SD cards sometimes work to flash a ROM and sometimes don't. The card needs to be formatted with Fat 32. You have to find the RUU_(wharever).nbh and rename it to leoimg.nbh ( you almost got it righ tsnoffy lol) and copy it to your SD card. insert SD card into phone and hold the volume down botton down anx tap the power button keep holding the volume down button down until you see bootloader come up and say searching then let go of the volume down button. The ROM will flash.

TMobile ROM to HTC ROM change - info Please!

Hi all
I've had a search through the re-developed ROM's and to be perfectly open, I don't understand much about them.
I recently had a plain HTC HD2 and very happy with it for what I use it for, I don't need any fancy add on's and bits etc, just my Co-pilot and keeping my contacts and notes upto date.
That handset was lost and the insurance didn't have any HD2 replacements in stock. The Desire they sent instead has been sold, and I've purchased a T Mobile version of another HD2.
Is it a simple case of downloading and installing the official HTC ROM for the handset and doing a ROM update?
Apologies if this is a simple query etc!
Cheers, Dennis!
no, no no nonono.
assuming you mean a tmobile us model (1024 rom, green send key) then no, if you flash a non tmous stock rom (any stock rom that isn't for the tmous) onto that phone it will die. brick. dead, because of the ..51.. radio they include.
You may get some cooked roms that are on a base of lower than 2.x, but have been tweaked for the 576ram , and they will work on your phone, but its a very risky game to play.
Far better to follow the two rules..,
only ever flash tmous stock roms,
and
cooked roms that SPECIFICALLY say tmous compatible in the title and post 1 of that roms thread..
Hiya
Samsamuel, thanks for the info there. I'll update with more information! I'm technical, but not with smartphones to the level some of you guys here!
I'm in the UK, and it's a UK TMobile handset that I bought. I've already had the handset 'unlocked' so that I can use my O2 SIM, which is working etc.
From the handset
OS Version - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila Version - 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version - 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE
ROM date - 04/02/10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version - 15.32.50.07U
So, would it be ok to update to the normal HTC ROM?
Cheers, Dennis!
Ah ok in that case there is no need to mention that it is a t mobile phone, just confuses the issue.
Yes the regular update will work fine once happy is applied.
Thanks once again SamSamuel,
However, what's meant by 'once happy is applied' ?
Is that one of these hacks or special ROM things?
When I do a search, so many results come back containing the word 'happy' I have no idea where or what to look for!
Is there a thread which explains how to apply 'happy'?
Apologies for the vagueness!!
Cheers, Dennis!
lol, thats the android spell correction and me not proof reading before i post. should be HSPL
Hiya
To me, anything that's typed up 'could' potentially be what I need to do! I wouldn't know the difference!!
So, I've had a search for HSPL - I see it mentioned, but alas, I have no clue what it is, where to get it from, what to do with it when I get it!
Is there any straightforward points on what and where to get this HSPL, how to use it ?
I know I can download the HTC official ROM from their website, so that part I think I know what to do as I upgraded my last HD2.
Cheers, Dennis!
ok, hspl. Get HSPL2_RUN.zip from HERE, (you can follow instructions that say hspl or hspl3, theyre all the same, except for what phones they support, , hspl2 is teh most usefull for regular hd2 owners)
phone into bootloader and connect usb, (when you read 'get an active sync connection', , forget that, it doesnt mean actual active sync, just a usb connection)
get hspl2, run it, in the dropdown is a list of spl and hspl versions. if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its,,,,,, hspl.
choose 2.08.hspl, follow the prompts. if it doesnt work, run the hspl prog again, if it still doesnt work (timeout/connection errors) change usb ports and try again. no need to touch teh phone, just leave it in bootloader all the time.
once bootloader says spl 2.08.hspl you are good to go.
BUT
if you are planning to flash the 3.14 rom, , , you can't do it this way.
3.14 wont work on any spl/hspl except 3.03.0000 and there is no way to get 3.03.0000 except goldcard.
Hiya
Samsamuel - seems you're the only one willing to help me here! so I really appreciate it !
I know i've got to do 'things' from what you've said there, but I have no idea on how to do it! - give me some financial IT related stuff I'm good! ask me to do bootloaders and potential goldcard and run files and connect - I'm lost! I don't want to try things in case I 'brick' the handset!
The ROM I want is listed on the HTC downloads section for the HD2. It's dated 25th January 2010
Details are
ROM Version:
Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,
Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2, France Bouygues: 1.66.483.0
So, if I somehow manage to do this HSPL thing, will I not be able to install the HTC ROM? I have no idea where or what the '3.14' ROM is?
Apologies for sounding really vague - I've never got into all the modified ROM's and stuff for smartphones. I've only ever needed to switch on, use the phone, install my GPS software and keep my contacts and notes syncronised. I'm just used to the HD2 I had as it was a case of straightforward use. This T mobile version is 'different'!
Anyone else able to help alongside everything SamSamuel has kindly provided so far? please?!!
Cheers, Dennis!
warning
Its best for you if you do not try to update your phone. Either get used to it or just sell it. There are rom update tutorials on this site. Just search for rom update tutorial, if you must try. The official htc software is not for this phone, if you install it, your phone will no longer work, and you wont be able to fix it.
No, its ok so long as you have a regular hd2 locked to t mobile as discussed in earlier posts.
Just to double confirm, if your phone has green send key, then STOP DANGER
But I think we're dealing with white send key, so normal hd2, and the target Tom isn't 3.14
So,,,
assuming white end key.
Phone backed up and off
Press hold keep holding volume down
Tap and release power keep holding volume down
When striped coloured screen appears
Plug in USB
On PC run hspl2
In dropdown choose 2.08.hspl
When it completes and phone starts to reboot immediately hold volume down again to return to stripey screen (bootloader)
When says USB at the bottom and split at top says 2.08.hspl run the .exe you downloaded from HTC
If you get connection errors, timeouts, leave the phone and just swap USB ports. When running hspl.exe right click it and "run as administrator"
(That's the last time I'm gonna write those out in full, there must be 500 identical step by steps and half as many YouTube vids. )
If your send key is green DO NOT DO THIS

[Q] Downgrade HTC HD2 WP7 back to 6.5

Hi,
I am working on getting my HD2 ready for WP7 + Android dual boot. I read that in order to make sure the Darkstone RAM SD build works properly with WP7 you need an already configured version of it. The current version I have is broken so i'm trying to get back to windows 6.5 so I can configure a new Darkstone build and upgrade everything back to WP7 + Android again.
Anyways, I'm stuck at the downgrading. I've downloaded both originals roms from the forum here and from htc.com and tried to run the from the bootloader (not the magldr but the red/green/blue thingie)
I keep getting the error about incorrect ROM versions. I tried to downgrade my radio to 15.26.50 but doing so resulted in the same error. My current radio version is 2.15.50.14
The HTC ROM i downloaded is named: RUU_Leo_S_Vodafone_NL_3.14.172.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship so my guess is that should work fine with my current Radio version.
Now i did read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14182187&postcount=3 and it sounds like a very possible solution but I can't quite figure out what i should do on the phone. The bootloader doesn't give any instructions, but perhaps he meant magicldr?
I'm quite lost here and I think i would have already bricked my phone twices if the HSPL3 didn't had a good check (From what i've read on the forum)
Did you really follow all the steps from the link you posted?
Especially if you get the "wrong ROM" message, did you use your serial in order to find out which ROM is the correct one for you?
Another question: What SD card do you use? If it´s bigger than 2GB, it tends to make problems. Try a smaller one.
I've managed to follow the steps after all using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681317 (Was searching in magldr at first). At one moment the screen turned black for a quick second with a warning sign and started over again? Now it seems to be finished. Guess stupid me made a post too fast after all.
I was using a 4GB class 2 SD and i figured the HTC rom is based on my serial because i had to insert it before downloading.
Windows mobile 6.5 seems to be running smooth now so I can continue with my evil dual boot!
