Hi, i am getting my transformer soon (i hope) and i would like to know your opinion on those screen protectors, i seen a lot of skinomi and clear freak thread but i am also wondering about the price, those 2 turn around 20 bucks each and im used to (12$ for 2 realooks protectors (for a phone though)) and i seen a couple of threads of people scratching the skinomi when trying to install it.. so i were wondering:
Is the +/- 20$ price is the price for those screen protector or are they gonna go down? (early adopter fee?)
I am really scared of a wet application method, is there dry screen protector out there?
Does any of you actually know if zagg or realook intend to release screen protectors for the transformer?
And finally, is there another tablet out there with the EXACT dimension for a screen protector (seen a couple for the iconia here and there but none for the transformer....)

I have one on my laptop and it dramatically reduces the reflectiveness and it hasn't reduced the touch sensitivity on it at all. It's what I plan on getting for mine when it gets here. Yes, I have a mutli-touch capacitive screen on my laptop.
Ok,does the dimension fit the transformer ?(or a little bigger?)

Now we have to find the size that will fit th TF, even though the screen is 8.5 X 5.5 the glass is 10X7. The closest size they list is for 12.1 4X3 aspect @ 9.72 X 7.28 which would have to be trimmed. I contacted them about custom sizes.

Yes. A good screen guard not only protects your glass from getting scratched but also reduces glare and even provide better tactile touch. I love how my BSE skins feel. Very smooth and soft and not slippery (not everybody likes it though). Oh, and you can use your hand or sleeves to wipe the screen without fear
BSE offers DIY sizes, 12x14" is about $15 + shipping (buy 3 and shipping is free I think). I've already emailed them to see if they will have Transformer kits soon.

I just measured the dimensions of the screen and used a razor to cut the BSE piece. I haven't used it outside yet so not sure about glare, but fingerprints are a-ok, as in they don't show up at all
I got the skinomi silver carbon fiber full protector today
and simply loving the design.
I am not sure how the screen is yet since I am waiting for it to dry
but i'll play with it when it does and see how it is and let you know what I think.
I'll also try to get some pictures up.
just want to interject a quick fact here, you guys know that the TF uses Gorilla glass right? it doesn't need a screen protector (at least for protection anyway) ... anything that can scratch gorilla glass would not be prevented by any screen protector you can get.

Gorilla Glass is only scratch resistant, not scratch proof. It can still scratch.

gorilla glass does scratch. my dell streak has gorilla glass and i've got a small scrath on it. it's just harder to scratch than normal glass.
also screen protectors are good to stop fingerprints and some decrease the friction; so easier swiping across the screen which is good for playing games. btw zagg invisible shields increase friction.

Hey all...does the transformer dock to the keyboard correctly with the skins / screen protectors?
When I put the skinomi skin on my Galaxy Tab I experienced problems docking it to the HDMI stand/dock...
Anyone with input please advise...

NO problems with the dock. It's tighter but still slips in.
I don't understand people's argument that Gorilla glass does not require a screen protector... there are numerous reasons to get a screen protector despite scratches. It feels differently, it reduces glare and fingerprints etc. I am happy I got one!

I'm really starting to hate the texture of the Skinomi screen protector. It's slightly tacky and makes tracing kind of annoying. It's also not very durable on it's own and while acting as a buffer, it's prone to it's own nicks far more than thinker matte protectors I've used.

For one, if you wanted to spend over $100 you could get a new glass screen and get it installed somehow. As far as getting protection then, I fully recommend it. Gorilla glass is NOT AT ALL as good as they say it is. My phone doesn't come into contact with razor blades and other crap it says it stands up against, but it does come in contact with minor pieces of lint in my pocket which somehow scratched this "impervious" screen...
As far as what type of protector...I didn't like Zagg or Ghost Armor or any of those stupid things. More expensive, more hassle than they're worth. I got I think a Splash Masque screen protector off Amazon or something. Something like that should do the trick. Not too hard to install w/o bubbles and I can't really tell it's there (feels normal, fits just fine).
zagg scratch guards are pathetic to use.
all rubbery feel with no smoothness unless you lube it
overpriced stuff that you cant through off because you overspent kind of feeling ..
get cheap clear screen protectors.. cost $2-5 over ebay for pack of 10 or something
I agree with the other two. Don't get a Zagg. I am currently using one and regret it. When I slide my finger to scroll or to play games, sad enough sometimes my fingers don't slide as smooth as opposed to some other screen protectors. Although I would say that it has saved my screen a couple of times. If your willing to spend the money on a Zagg and idk what your budget is like you could try out the otter box Commuter. Its isn't that bulky in my opinion and has a pretty good screen protector on it, with the bonus of protecting the phone itself.

I used a bodyguardz but didn't really like the feel of it and the proximity sensor wouldn't work right. Order some other cheap one off Amazon which feels a lot better but the proximity sensor still doesn't work right with it.
I can deal with the proximity sensor issue more than I could put up with a scratch in on my screen. Not sure if the zaggs interfere with the proximity sensor or not.

Don't go the Zagg route.
First the invisible shields are a true PITA to install! (trust me it's a lot harder than a normal screen protector)
Second even if you get it installed correctly it feels rubbery weird.
Just go with the clear screen protector cheapies on eBay, and either a leather holster or a TPU clear case (depending if you pocket or not) and you'll be fine...
Im a huge fan of ghost armor. I like the look and feel of it. Yeah it sucks do pay $20 for the initial screen and service, but its $5 bucks after to replace it forever.

I went with Zagg myself, went in to the local store had them install it for 10 bucks. Just got it replaced, it does have a sort of grip to it on the screen that you have to get use to. Overall all I'm happy with the protection it's given my phone, usually after a couple months I'll start seeing scratches and stuff, I'm a little disappointed that I had to take it in to get the shield replaced today, but it was free save for the installation free so I'd say it was definitely a good investment for my device.
Just wondering if they are needed for the flyer or will they get in the way when you use the pen ?

I just got zagg invisible shield and i love the way it feels with my pen. Now i get good fiction using it on the screen and i can use the other side of the pen as a stylus without worrying about scratching the screen because of the metallic stylus.
Whether to use a screen protector or not seems like a very personal decision, based on opinions I've read on XDA. But I recommend using one. The Flyer does not have Gorilla Glass, and several people on here have had problems with scratches. The difference in feel is pretty minimal with a good quality protector, even when using the pen. So I don't think it will bother you in this regard. Some people even like the feel of the pen with the protector better than without. Apparently, the matte protectors (which I don't have) provide a little more friction, so the pen slips less and feels a bit more like writing on paper.
I have a Skinomi protector, and happy with it. I've also used Bodyguardz on my phone, and very happy with it, as well. But at the time I bought my Flyer, Bodyguardz didn't make a screen protector for it yet. But now they do.
If you end up not liking the protector, you can always take it off. Then you are just out $15-20. Better than going without, and regretting it, as there is no easy way to remove the scratches once they are there.

Do you notice any scratches from using the pen? The one I am currently using looked great until I started using the pen. Now I can see scratches everywhere the pen has touched.
Anti-glare screen protectors from Handheld are great. Also less fingerprints.

I agree with this here. Was afraid of the interaction with the pen, but it feels great. I've always been weary of the anti-glare protector's ability to really protect the screen.

I just got my Invisible Shield @ Best Buy last night for $9.99.
I really like the way it feels on the screen. IMHO way better than just the glass.
I've really liked using DC Mugen's matte screen protectors on my Samsung phone. They're great at reducing glare and fingerprints, and I prefer the feel over just the glass. I was glad to find that they started making a screen protector for the Flyer / View. They ship from Hong Kong, so it takes a few weeks to get them here in the US. Mine just arrived, and I'm not missing the fingerprints and glare.

To me, screen film is a must for Flyer. First the screen as some others indicated not Gorilla glass, and the bare glass is no good to use the pen due to too low friction. A good-quality antiglare film is good for i) the viewing experience with no light reflection ii) lowered friction for good handwriting with pen iii) of course to protect screen for any possible scratches. Better to have one than worrying later
So far I didn't put any screen protector on my flyer. I ordered one from amazon and also bought the sagged invisible shield from BB. However with the zagg protector I am somewhat scared that I might get some of the application solution into the device.
So how safe is it to apply these and then squeeze the water out?

People apply the Zagg films with solution all the time. Just don't use too much solution. I'm personally not a fan of the Zagg stuff it's too sticky.
Lately, I've been putting on screen protectors from Photodon. I use their HD anti-glare model. Easy install, good clarity, reduces glare and finger prints. One of the best I've used and I've gone through a ton of brands with my various iDevices.

I didn't notice that it was a 3-pack until after I placed the order, which is a nice bonus.
I use the 'Boxwave' screen protectors and it works great. On my VIEW is the clear, they sell anti-glare but haven't tried it.
Firstly with the gorrila glass do I need a protector..?
Second I hear the metal scratches easily so I was thinking of getting a skin protector so I could still use the dock... But the only issue with that is then the dock would be a different color and the dock would end up getting scratches on it
The only screen protectors I have seen are the skinomi brand ones...

Something I've seen is quite a nice bag by case logic that let's you use any 10.1 tab with keyboard whilst still in the bag / case. Probably a better option have a look on the case logic website. I travel a lot / fly and that's what I will be getting its perfect.
Screen protector isn't needed with gorilla glass but there will be loads of them out once the Asus Transformer Prime comes out.

Some screen protectors will help with fingerprints on the glass though. I think a lot of people use them for that reason alone. I hate the way most screen protectors feel so I doubt I will use one. I may grab a skinomi skin though if the amethyst is too purple.
There's no need to "protect" the screen from scratches because of the gorilla glass (but bear in mind this doesn't protect from egregious mishaps).
That being said, I had a SGP Matte screen protector on my GalaxyTab10.1 because I absolutely could not handle the ridiculous amounts of reflection in the screen, and I anticipate I'll get another one for this tablet. The matte screen protectors also give you an awesome tactile feel on the screen, in addition to protecting against fingerprints. The tradeoff is about a 2-5% reduction in screen clarity. For me it was easily worth it.
Look out for a Steinheil screen protector (Ultra Crystal) when it comes out. You don't need one for Gorilla glass but I get one for fingerprint reasons. I have one on the Xoom and it handles finger prints better than bare surface. I've also tried Skinomi and ZAGG for various phones and tablets, but I no longer like the wet application unless it's for skinning.

To expound on this a bit further, Steinheill makes an Ultra Crystal (it's so clear it's practically invisible, no anti-glare/fingerprint properities), an Ultra Optics (anti-glare/fingerprint, 3~% reduction in screen clarity, my preference), and one in between (inferior imo).
If you google or youtube the iPad equivalents you can find some good reviews of all them compared next to each other. But those in the know will recommend Steinheill/SGP without hesitation because of their outstanding reputation.
And again, I'll throw out my recommendation for the Ultra Optics version. Of course everyone's preferences will be different, but once you've compared the (lack of) glare with one on to a tablet without one you'll never want to go back. It makes the screen more readable without having to crank up the brightness, which always hurt my eyes after extended amounts of use. I found gaming on it easier, as well, because of how smooth gliding a finger on it is.
Yeah the thing is I'm not waiting for a skin/screen protector from another company to come out so I'm just gonna get the skinomi clear screen and skin protector!

Another +1 for SGP Screen protectors. I use them on all my touch screen devices and will be picking up the Ultra Optic for the Prime as soon as it hits.
After using most the major brands, including Skinomi, nothing seems to compare with the SGP covers. They feel just like glass (no annoying drag or stickiness), and their anti-glare / fingerprint properties are pretty impressive. They did make an actual body protector (Skin Gaurd) for the original Transformer, but I have never used that specific product so can't speak to its quality. It also didn't interfere with Docking, was $19, and you can bet they will make one for the Prime as well.

I will probably go nekkid, I really dislike screen protectors and I have put one on my fascinate and removed it a couple days later, with gorilla glass I haven't had any scratch issues even carrying in my pocket with keys and my prime won't have to go against any of that
Just grabbed a Skinomi TechSkin screen protector for $15 on Amazon. I know Gorilla Glass doesn't really need "protection", but I am terrified of damaing the screen in any way. Opted for the normal TechSkin over the DryTech after speaking with their Customer Service and verifying that the TechSkin feels more like a glass surface, aka no drag or friction.
I usually install SGP protectors, and really want the Ultra Optic protector for its anti-glare / fingerprint attributes, but until they are released for the Prime, this was cheap enough to hold me over.
I have a Sensation with Gorilla Glass and I don't use a screen protector at all. I've purposely scraped knives and scissors on my screen to prove a point to friends about the glass. It's good stuff. It's not indestructible like putting too much weight on it) but it's certainly enough to keep the screen protected against keys in my pocket and what not.
As for smudges from your hands, I don't have any experience myself with anything that supposedly reduces that, but I don't have too many smudges on my phone and they wipe off easy (thanks to Gorilla Glass being so tough). I'm skeptical about any layer you can put on the screen that prevents smudges and finger prints. Oil is oil. I'm really careful about what I eat before touching the phone because even a carrot leaves stuff on your fingers that get on your screen.
One of my favorite touted features of the Prime is that it is "hydro-oleophobic", which means there is a special coating on the screen and casing to make it resistant to water/oil/smudges. Perhaps this in combination with the Gorilla Glass will alleviate the need to install a screen protector?
It has been my experience that screen protectors do reduce the sensitivity of a stylus. So initially I'm going to be brave and use the Prime without a screen protector, as I really want to use it for note taking and drawing with a stylus.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that coating your talking about i just didnt see it on the Prime.When i played with the display model at Gamestop the screen had plenty of fingerprints and smudges.Yet the screen was still beautiful.Goes to show u that a clean screen will be amazing.

Screen protector is still a good idea. It's gorilla glass, but its still glass. Any common sand still has a higher hardness of glass. Just something to keep in mind.

Personally, I don't think I'm gonna get a screen protector. Seems silly, as gorilla class is awesome - very happy with my gs2 (though I did drop it straight on the concrete and it got chipped lol...but no crack). Im mot too upset with finger print marks. I'm thinking about picking up one of those sub 10$ tablet cases on amazon!

Gorilla Glass is awesome, but not indestructible. My wife's Samsung Infuse is only 3-4 months old, and there are a few scratches on the gorilla glass screen.
Granted, I have kids that sometimes get ahold of her phone, but I definitely want something to gaurd against any possibility of scratches on the Prime. Will be rocking a Skinomi until SGP releases their protectors for this device.

New ATT LTE Note owner here coming from an iPhone that i've used for 4+ years. Anyhow, does anyone have any good recommendations on screen protectors? I've been reading the other threads, but they just dont give me enough info. I ordered the SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, wondering what it looks like and if anyone can post pics of theirs? That would be awesome. Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement back housing that is leathery like the Blackberry Bold 9000?
A screen protector is a screen protector. Doesn't matter about what device you put it on. So, just search for screen protector and you will get your answer. Another thread is not necessary. Also, the Note has Gorilla Glass and you really don't need a screen protector. I understand this is personal preference, though.

You do need it if you are going to be around sand which will easily scratch the screen if you get one speck on your finger.
It has happened before and will happen again.
To protect investment I highly advice to get a screen protector put on the screen. There's been few threads talking about their Note has been scratched. SGP is a good brand, one of the members here suggested it and I replaced my Zagg screen with it, it feels more natural than Zagg, although I still think Zagg is more durable.
As for leathery back cover, no idea. Seidio is coming out w/ their own set of protective case. Their product has never failed me. Great protection.
OK, I'm not one to often recommended $35 screen protectors, but this is the first time I've been able to bear any sp for more than a day. I did get 2 tiny specs under it that are noticeable with the screen off in bright light, but I can't even tell an sp is on when I'm using it.

i got the zagg screen protector from best buy with my reward card for 6 bucks. It is the one with the wet install. Surprisingly the install was quite easy and painless. I was thoroughly impressed. It is not like a one shot deal when you install it. You can move the screen protector around until it is right. Just spray more water whenever it is needed. ( and no I dont work for Zagg..lol)
Zagg is the worst screen protector, ever, period.
It sucks even more with our S-Pen since Zagg has a "rubbery" feeling or texture on it. Since the whole point of the screen protector is to protect the screen from being scratched and mimic the feeling of the bare glass, your best bet is the regular thin plastic screen protectors. That is, unless, you are willing to get the glass screen protectors.
But then if you like it then that's all that matters.

Gorilla Glass is Scratch Resistant, NOT Scratch Proof, Scratch Proof glass does NOT exist. Even if it GG was as tough as diamonds, the protectors provide some extra protection for your screen in the case of drops, bumps, etc. Me, I don't want to take any chances.

+1, but he is technically right that you don't NEED one. It seems like the odds are in favor of no scratches or minimal scratches. I live in Florida and there's a lot of sand. I'd rather take a knife to my GG than sand... I always use a screen protector.

i ordered a screen protector x 5 for just under 5 bucks from eBay. I replace every 6 months.
Sadly there is no sand where I live. (I am jealous of you who have sand!) And, I can understand that a sandy environment is a good reason to protect the device more.
The reason I chimed in was to protest yet another thread about "what screen protector is the best". Then I added my opinion.

The SGP glass screen protector is the best I used two others and the s-pen left marks all over them the SGP Glass was a bit pricey but well worth it looks perfect clear as glass and hard so s-pen will not mark it up I will never go back to a film form now on i'll use an SGP glass protector on all my phones

Looking for a quality, wet-apply, non rubbery feel screen protector that is compatible with the dock (either cutout, or thin enough to not impede dock usage). Any suggestions?
I have tried multiple screen protectors on multiple devices and never really been satisfied as they reduce the responsiveness of the screen and usually peel off over time. This device has Gorilla glass, so I don't believe a screen protector is required.

been the same for me, never really been happy with the feeling / lack of response using them so always come off.
I have a Skinomi skin (tablet + dock) and am pretty happy with it. You can also use skinomi25 for a 25% discount.
I've never had any other type of skin though, so I can't really compare.
I've heard people say that the Skinomi skins have a rubbery texture though. Is that the case in your experience?
Dont buy a screen protector it's pointless. Gorilla glass is amazing

Skinomi is good +1 on that. Running full body protection + full body keyboard protection. While yes corning gorilla glass shouldn't scratch but better to be safe than sorry. Especially if your carrying it inside a bag and such.
Both Skinomi and Zagg screen protectors are rubbery. Skinomi is less rubbery than Zagg but neither are really unnoticeable when applied. Most matte screen protectors won't be rubbery but they will alter the look of your screen slightly.

In general though, the look and feel of a screen protector is a very subjective thing so you may have to try a few before you find one you like.
Know you're asking about wet-apply, but I use the Elecom TB-ASTF201FLBS, and am really pleased with it so far.
Course, I haven't used the prime without it, so I wouldn't know whether there's less sensation than doing it in the buff. Imagine we'll get around to that after we get to know each other better...
But looking on Amazon.com, I'm not sure you can get this outside of Japan.
I bought this off of ebay in January even before I got my Prime, I usually was concerned about wet-apply as I'd never used it before.
It looks like the bubbles will stay at first, but push most of them off with a credit card, wait 48-hours and I promise you the water/soapy look underneath and all of the bubbles disappear.
I love it, doesn't feel super rubbery, and it seems just as responsive.

I agree with coach. I've had a Zagg Invisible Shield on my HTC Aria since the first week or purchase. It works as advertised, keeps the screen protected and scratch free.
HOWEVER, personally, Zagg does have a rubbery feel and as everyone else mentioned, will reduce screen sensitivity.
