Screen Protectors - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey Guys,
New ATT LTE Note owner here coming from an iPhone that i've used for 4+ years. Anyhow, does anyone have any good recommendations on screen protectors? I've been reading the other threads, but they just dont give me enough info. I ordered the SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, wondering what it looks like and if anyone can post pics of theirs? That would be awesome. Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement back housing that is leathery like the Blackberry Bold 9000?

A screen protector is a screen protector. Doesn't matter about what device you put it on. So, just search for screen protector and you will get your answer. Another thread is not necessary. Also, the Note has Gorilla Glass and you really don't need a screen protector. I understand this is personal preference, though.

You do need it if you are going to be around sand which will easily scratch the screen if you get one speck on your finger.
It has happened before and will happen again.

To protect investment I highly advice to get a screen protector put on the screen. There's been few threads talking about their Note has been scratched. SGP is a good brand, one of the members here suggested it and I replaced my Zagg screen with it, it feels more natural than Zagg, although I still think Zagg is more durable.
As for leathery back cover, no idea. Seidio is coming out w/ their own set of protective case. Their product has never failed me. Great protection.

OK, I'm not one to often recommended $35 screen protectors, but this is the first time I've been able to bear any sp for more than a day. I did get 2 tiny specs under it that are noticeable with the screen off in bright light, but I can't even tell an sp is on when I'm using it.

I like these screen protectors, comparable to zagg but lays down smoother

Why this? Jeez

i got the zagg screen protector from best buy with my reward card for 6 bucks. It is the one with the wet install. Surprisingly the install was quite easy and painless. I was thoroughly impressed. It is not like a one shot deal when you install it. You can move the screen protector around until it is right. Just spray more water whenever it is needed. ( and no I dont work for Zagg..lol)

Zagg is the worst screen protector, ever, period.
It sucks even more with our S-Pen since Zagg has a "rubbery" feeling or texture on it. Since the whole point of the screen protector is to protect the screen from being scratched and mimic the feeling of the bare glass, your best bet is the regular thin plastic screen protectors. That is, unless, you are willing to get the glass screen protectors.
But then if you like it then that's all that matters.

Because here we go with yet another thread so everyone can chime in with their opinion about which is the best screen protector. And my opinion is that you don't need one with GG.

Gorilla Glass is Scratch Resistant, NOT Scratch Proof, Scratch Proof glass does NOT exist. Even if it GG was as tough as diamonds, the protectors provide some extra protection for your screen in the case of drops, bumps, etc. Me, I don't want to take any chances.

+1, but he is technically right that you don't NEED one. It seems like the odds are in favor of no scratches or minimal scratches. I live in Florida and there's a lot of sand. I'd rather take a knife to my GG than sand... I always use a screen protector.

SGP all the way get the ultra crystal.

i ordered a screen protector x 5 for just under 5 bucks from eBay. I replace every 6 months.

Sadly there is no sand where I live. (I am jealous of you who have sand!) And, I can understand that a sandy environment is a good reason to protect the device more.
The reason I chimed in was to protest yet another thread about "what screen protector is the best". Then I added my opinion.
I agree that SGP are very good.

SGP Glass
The SGP glass screen protector is the best I used two others and the s-pen left marks all over them the SGP Glass was a bit pricey but well worth it looks perfect clear as glass and hard so s-pen will not mark it up I will never go back to a film form now on i'll use an SGP glass protector on all my phones

[Q] SGS2 already have Gorilla Glass?

Samsung Galaxy S II has been designed with Gorilla Glass? No need of Screen Guard?
I have seen 2 sites saying Samsung Galaxy S II has been designed with Gorilla Glass so I want to make sure. http://androidcommunity.com/samsung-galaxy-sii-gorilla-glass-confirmed-20110503/ Lost another site link.is that true?
Of course SGS II has Gorilla Glass. But I am still really confused that it will or will not need a screen protector! I really don't like them but I think it's better to have one rather than scratching that beautiful 4.27" screen. What do you guys think?
Thanks for putting that link up.

OK Thanks and I think it is 100% better getting a screen Protector for safety. It is better to get a Rs.100-500 screen guard instead of spending money on a screen after getting scratch on the screen.I am using 1 already and kept 1 as spare
Scratches WILL occur on gorilla glass, but they are less likely to be seenwhen compared to other screens.
So buy a screen protector.

Hmm..I already ordered the 2nd one from Scratchgard.in, Rs.499, so it's costly, still I've read a lot of users posting that they didn't use any screen protector for more than one year wit GG and also they used it roughly, still no scratches on it. Yes I know Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant but not proof.
I'd like some users to post here who are not using any protective screen and post feedback here, if there is any scratches appearing or not.
Regards.

There's already a LOT of threads talking about this exact topic. Yes, gorilla glass is tougher than your average glass, but it's not scratch-proof, so I personally don't see the point in taking the risk. Gorilla glass can and will get scratched.
Get a screen protector and never have to worry about scratches, or don't get one and always worry.
Guys i can highly recommend getting this screen protector you really cannot tell that you even have a protecter on your screen, after paying all that money for this phone im not taking any chances.

I have had my nexus one for about a year and it has a Gorilla Glass screen. I don't have a screen protector on and I have dropped it several times on asphalt and other surfaces and I don't have any scratches on my screen. I am waiting for the SGS2 to come out on sprint (hopefully) and I won't be bothering with a screen protector.
Thanks, but late for me, my bad.

good for you but id be more "better to be safe than sorry" and for a few quid for a screen protector like the Ultra Olephobic which you wouldn't even notice it was on i believe it's definitely worth getting.
Does the SGP ultra... have problems with air bubbles or orange skin?
I tried a couple of screen protectors with both nexus s and gs2 and I think I'm more bothered by bubbles and orange skin then scratches
I read in quite a few posts about light scratches, most probably due to the anti-fingerprint coating on the glass. But I wont get a screen protector. In the WM times with resistive screens you had to get one because the screens could get scratches with just your fingernail or the stylus, but they all (even the expensive ones) looked bad. So on my HD2 I didn't bother with a screen protector and don't regret it because after over 1,5 years of intensive use (otherwise it was in my pocket or on the stone floor besides my bed) without any cases or screen protectors, my HD2 doesn't even have one single scratch (and I mean the whole device). I just had to remove the paint of the battery cover because it came off on the edges where I hold it, but I would have done that anyway because it looks better, as you can see in this thread. I hope my SGS2 proves to be as good as my HD2.

No it doesn't, honestly i can barely tell mine is on it really is that good just take time to apply it properly there are videos on XDA which are useful regarding this, i did read reviews beforehand and most were favourable but after applying it i really am impressed with it, scrolling is still as smooth as ever, sure you'll get fingerprints and smudge marks but you'd get that on the screen anyway just wipe it off.

Even though it says that the screen is scratch resistant, I wouldn't take the chance. When I got my SGSII, I went ahead and searched for a pouch and a screen protector. Money well spent!
I have it from 1 month ago, without any protector a no scratches. I transport my SGS2 in my pocket always.
For those of you who say that they aren't worried about their phone scratching because its always in their pocket, I would still recommend you getting one, purely because of the fact that Gorilla Glass is vulnerable to SAND and DUST. Sand particles have a very high hardness rating exceeding that of Gorilla glass, so it will carve up your pretty little phone without a care in the world. Simply wiping the screen cover with a cloth that has a particle of sand on it, can scratch the screen, not to mention the original oleophobic coating Samsung put over the Gorilla Glass, which itself is very vulnerable.
I can also vouch for the SGP Ultra Oleophobic Screen Protector. Hands down the best balance of everything a screen protector should have. I've used some no name brands, the Zagg ones as well as the SGP Ultra Crystal one before, and none can compare.
The SGP Ultra Oleophobic beats the Ultra Crystal hands-down simply because it repels oil much better, and can be cleaned with one wipe of a shirt or cloth. On the other hand, the ultra crystal clings to fingerprints and oil like a fat kid to a candy bar.
Both however, exhibit zero rainbow effects, air bubbles or orange peel effects. For about 30 minutes after putting the oleophobic one on, there is a bit of rubbery/slightly sticky feeling on the protector, but it goes away after some use or a bit of cleaning with a microfibre cloth. I'd also recommend not applying the protector on vertically, from speaker to microphone, but rather, from left to right. It is MUCH easier to align this way, and much easier to retry if you messed up the first time.
I've had many people who've played with my phone ask me why I don't bother putting on a screen protector, and when I tell them to look again, they are genuinely surprised they didn't realize it was there.
TL;DR: get a screen protector, because sand (which is actually harder than gorilla glass) and dust can and WILL scratch your screen eventually. also, SGP Ultra Oleophobic beats everything else hands down.
I think Sammy will send the gorilla glass as OTA update when Android Weedcake 2.5.5 hits the market sometime in the distant future.

well well well talk about fate, there is a scratch on the screen and i only put the ultra olephobic screen protector on yesterday initially i thought it was a hair but it's a very small scratch so im even more pleased now i had this on otherwise id have a scratch, thankfully you get 2 screen protectors so i can just replace this one.

I am pretty sure I bought mine from Amazon which saved me a few bucks on shipping. I highly recommend this product. It is clear and pretty smooth. In retrospect, I may get the oleophobic version next.
I got the Oleophobic version the other day. Ordered from Amazon to save on shipping since I'm a Prime member. Absolutely love this protector. You can't even tell that its on the phone unless you look closely at it. Its smooth, clear, no rainbow affect, finger prints hardly show and if they do wipe away with ease. Great protector. One side note, they send you two in the package. Nice surprise...
In my opinion, Steinheil makes the best screen protector on the market. I've been using them for years on all my devices.

Do you know if the Oleophobic has the same clarity as the Ultra Clear? I dont want to get anything that will cloud the screen.
It's a great screen protector, I bought the Oleophobic version and you cannot tell that it's even there.
Using the Oleophobic.
Noticeably more friction than the stock screen.
Does appear to make finger oils more apparent than stock screen.
Easy to wipe off.
Does cover the Front facing camera and sensor ports.
I highly suspect the protector would affect front camera performance, although I have not checked this.
Cutout for the earpiece only.
Two pieces in the package, with cloth and scraper. No alcohol wipes.
As always, apply in a clean, dust-free environment.
I'd call it above average.

I am using the Ultra Crystal Clear and I am very happy with it. It did not affect the clarity of the screen before and after installing it. I chose it for the clarity and for the scratch protection.
Unless someone has used or installed both versions on their phone, I think it will hard to judge what is better in terms of clarity. HTH.
Quotes from the SGP web site :
(Sorry I can't still post URL, so if you go to their sgpstore.com site and under cell phone > Samsung SGS2 AT&T)
Ultra Crystal and Ultra Oleophobic screen protectors are both clear type where it absolutely doesn't affect the screen image quality.
Ultra Crystal has glass-like surface coating with the best resistance against scratches.
Ultra Oleophobic has an oil resistant coating to resist oil and other contaminants.
Ultra Crystal : Ultimate Clarity
• Ultra Crystal : 25% Thicker than previous model
• Hard coated for Scratches and Scuffs Proof
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Ultimate Clarity surface hardness : 4H
Ultra Oleophobic : Oil-Resistance
• Oleophobic coating : Oil-resistance coating
• it protects from staining of oils, cosmetics and other contaminations
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Good Surface Hardness : 3H

I agree with you on the grainy aspect of the Moshi iVisor screen protector.
I was almost going to purchase it at the AT&T store when two of the AT&T sales guys showed me their Infuse phones one with the iVisor installed and one without. And that's when I decided to go with Steinheil instead. The iVisor on that phone made his screen so matte or so grainy.
Obviously the iVisor has other advantages (scratch resistant, reusable) but not the clarity one for me.
I'm looking to get a screen protector for my galaxy s2 as well. i've heard a lot of horror stories with screen protectors and leaving residue/ruining the screen so I'm a little hesitant in choosing one.
I know this phone has gorilla glass but it never hurt to protect it.
Is the ultra oleophobic worth the 13.99? Can someone confirm the front-facing camera quality since the protector covers it?
Or should i settle for those $1-3 ones on ebay?

I have tried all of them but the only one that i use and wikll ever use on this device is the ultra crystal because its the only one that doesnt take away from the shininess of this screen. The screen on this phone is by far the best on the market so i want to keep it that way.
Well I guess the comments answer my questions. I'm not too worried about protection, but just want something that will show less fingerprints.
Im planning to get the oleophobic one aswell but I had a question about if I should use this screen protector that came with this gel case I purchased off eBay. the case is nice and all and it came with an ordinary protector, but because I've never applied a screen protector on any phone before - I was wondering should i apply it? I'm very obsessive about the screen on my galaxy s2 and don't know if removing a screen protector incase i dont like it will damage the screen or anything? there is no adhesive or other solution that came with it, its one of those that u just apply it on after removing covers on both sides

Awesome RAZR screen protector!

Hi All,
Just wanted to pass this on. I've tried the Verizon screen protector and it totally sucks. It's very thick and makes the touch display really unresponsive, so I pitched that in the trash.
Then I found Steinheil. The SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal (actually, under color choose the Ultra Fine for an extra $2) It is a really nice, matte style screen protector with a wonderful added benefit... NO FINGER PRINTS!
They're not the cheapest, but trust me, I've had several and these are the BEST, hands down!

I don't disagree on Steinheil having good screen protectors, but you thought the VZ one was too thick? I'm using the VZ protectors (came in a three pack, the standard not the anti-glare) and it's not thick at all. It is hardly noticable. Only thing I don't like is the way they cut around the top area, and there is a subtle rainbow affect. If you want thick - try the Zagg!
I bought the sgp ultrafine and love everything about it except it makes light backgrounds look all grainy.

I've just fitted the 3M Vikuiti ADQC27 and it's brilliant. Reduces reflection making the screen clearer and brighter, and the surface is less grippy than the bare glass. It doesn't resist finger marks all that well though.
It slightly overhangs the bevelled edges of the screen and won't stick to them, but as I have an S-line case on I don't notice particularly.

Its uber scratch resistant. Sand shouldn't even hurt it. I've used sharp keys and tried on my SGS 2. My best effort is to leave impressions of scratches. That's it. If you don't mishandle these devices with the coating, you would never be able to scratch them.

You see plenty of tests of GG with keys and coins, but not sand or sandpaper because it likely will scratch. And pocket dirt often contains sand. Even if you don't put it in your pocket, if you drop it like here, you still are at risk.
I wish this wasn't true, and maybe it's worth taking the risk, but it's worth noting that Corning does not say scratch proof and you never see them test it against sand or sidewalk/road grit.

Galaxy S8 Wet Application VS 3D Curved Screen Protector options

The S7 was a challenge to protect the screen, and it's looking like the S8 is going to be even harder. Based on what I learned during my search for an S7 protector, it looks like we're going to be stuck using either a wet application or a 3D curved glass screen. Does anyone have any experience with either? I know for sure that I'm getting the S8, but I'm not sure which would be the best protection (and best value).
I'll be sure to update this main post if we can come up with something that is effective.
i dont know which one is good , but i know that one called invisible shield just took too much money from us
they are actually stealing from us , so avoid that one
I've had nothing but good experiences with ZAGG InvisibleShield HD Dry. Honestly think it's the best alternative for the edge screen.

same, i think i tried at least $200 in glass protectors, most failed immediately. the rest, not soon after. I've been using the iqshield and armorsuit wet installs on the s7 edges we currently have. Obviously, it doesn't offer much for impact protection, but not a scratch to be found on the screen.
You would think with the gorilla glass being used here that the need for protectors would go down, not up.

All gorilla glass scratches at a 6 mohs scale hardness level, keys and knives won't scratch it but sand/rocks will most likely.
I had the S7 Edge last year, and ended up not getting a screen protector at all, after spending something like $60 on various ones that didn't do a good job. It was stressful, and I am contemplating just doing the same thing this year, if there isn't an "obvious" choice.
I saw a decent looking Zagg glass screen protector on Best Buy's website. Hopefully it works better than the one they put out for the S7E.
im new to the curves. ive had zagg in the past on other devices and loved the products but they are pricey. just pre-ordered yesterday now to do some research on cases and shields. thanks for starting this thread. looking to get any info from s7 edge owners as possible!
zagg coming soon.

I have the S7 Edge and have moderate success with Glass Screen Protectors. One big issue is the case you use. You cannot use big heavy cases - they break the screens - best to use clear rubbery plastic protectors that have very thin sides - they offer decentprotection and look ok.
Spigen has a good curved plastic screen protector that works very well - not glass - but it fits with more cases than the Glass ones do - honestly, I ended up not using a case at all - and getting a clear glass screen protector that I rate a 7 on a ten scall -
When I get my S8 - I think I will find a clear, curved plastic protecor again. Like the one from Spigen or a few other providers - (Bodyglove has one too) More to protect against scratches than anything else.
Glass always has some issues - even the good ones - very little adhesive - tends to lift up slightly when you type at the edges - sometimes giving you a sort of 'clicking sound' - sometimes touch is effected at the edges too - typing the letters or keys to the extreme sides of the phone can be touchy sometimes....
All in all though it is an awesome looking phone...can't wait. Hope the bootloader isn't locked on the International variant - G950F -
screen protectors are a thing of the past imho.. they scratch easily and make you think that it would have happened to your glass
I do see little scratches on my s7 edge, but i cant feel them, and dont see them unless I look hard.
Apparently the curve is much less prominent on the S8 than on the S7 Edge. I wonder if that will help the glass screen protector situation? Went without a protector on my S7 Edge and ended with a cracked screen, don't want to repeat that but can't deal with non glass protection.
That's my concern as well since this will be my first phone, coming from the S6, that's gonna have a curved display. I was planning on buying another Spigen case as it's the main reason why my S6 is still in one piece, haha, but I've heard that the curved glass protectors don't work well with any cases that aren't the really thin TPU ones, so that poses a potential problem.
Should I even bother ordering any remotely heavy-duty case now, despite not being 100% sure if there's gonna be ANY glass screen protectors that will work with this curved display? If there are curved glass screen protectors that will work with heavier duty cases, it'll be very nice to know as I love having a glass screen protector on my S6 and it'd be a shame to have to give that up with the S8.

You see, I generally plan on selling my phones when I get new ones, so, I honestly care about keeping the phone in as pristine condition as possible, to get maximum resale value. The glass screen protector is the only reason why my S6 doesn't have a cracked screen. I don't understand how people can stand using obviously cracked screens... Every time I see that, I'm like WTF?! Like replacing a screen protector is HELLA cheaper than replacing your entire display. I do have a few minor scratches on my current one, but because it's not my ACTUAL display, it doesn't bother me.

Right?! A glass screen protector saved my S6, so I REALLY hope there will be curved glass screen protectors that'll work with any cases that aren't the cheap, thin TPU ones... T.T
The thing is, that the protector cracks much more easily, as well as scratches more easily. Likely, if a hit was hard enough to crack the screen itself, a glass screen protector is not going to help. They are softer than the phone's glass and that is why people swear by them. Youll spend more money replacing screen protectors then you will making the money difference from selling a "mint" class phone vs "good".
Scratches, maybe the screen protector can help with. Cracks? No way. Manufacturers would also recommend them and not persue gorilla glass etc, if it really was that easy.
I think its just another way for the industry to extract more money from people.
I'm thinking about trying this one. Armorsuit
Their case for the S7 Edge got really good reviews ( 4338 Reviews, average 4 stars) and it's cheap enough if it doesn't work well, not a big loss. It's not glass though, but I've never used a glass screen protector, so doesn't matter to me. And, it's supposedly case friendly.
I ordered a case friendly tempered glass screen protector.

Funny that it has a review without the device having been shipped for it to be installed on. I'll laugh if it turns out to not be very good and they edit it to a 1 star 2 days after the phones arrive "in hands" lol.
It's cheap enough I don't care. If it works yay, if not...I'll swap.

Are they any good screen protectors out there?

I've been reading all the threads in the forum after I brought my OP 5 yesterday (supposed to arrive to me in the next 2 weeks) and I cant find any solid recommendation.
There aren't any brands making screen protectors to our devices and even less reviews.
-I saw people saying to stay away from the original screen protector made by Oneplus due to the few millimeter lost cause by it.
-I looked on the Orzly screen protector and it looked quiet well but after searching the web I saw multitude negative reviews due lack of adhesiv, dot metrix and rainbows showing up on the screen. but some other who claims the protector is completely fine
In conclusion: In the Glass screen protectors section, there is no good product that will be fine with guarantee ?
If so, there is any other kind of screen protector (not glass one's) such as Skinomi or IQ Shield that are recommended?
I have to order any kind of screen protector as soon as possible before my device will arrive.
thanks for your professional support !
Every single option, glass or TPU, sucks. The best option is the non-glass protector that ships applied to the phone. Baby that one as long as you can.

Still the best, even covered in 2" of lint lol
As much as the screen protectors suck, the Orzly is stil the best of the bunch. I have it installed with no rainbow effect in the middle. Again, I think this is a case of people who have the issues are the ones you see. It depends on how you install it I guess. I know a few others who have also installed it without the rainbow, but I know people who have installed it and have had the rainbow. At least it is a fully screen protector, that doesnt cut off a millimeter of the screen basically, and at least they aren't a company that blames the user for obvious issues with their TGSP *cough* Oneplus *cough*
Take it from someone who has been through 5+ different screen protectors... About the only one that was semi worth a damn was Orzly. You run into ones that don't fill the entire screen and leave the edges exposed, don't stick, cover the front camera or ones that just flat out don't end up sticking. I wish I didn't end up taking off the one that the OP5 came shipped with but oh well lesson learned. As I said as of right now the only semi decent one is Orzly but even that one I had issues with the glue towards the edges peeling so the screen wouldn't respond because the protector was coming off the screen a little. Still though - Orzly or Manufacturer screen that was originally on the one are your best options at this point.
I really like the IQ branded film protector. I've had no problems with it and I only really notice it when I swipe along the edges and feel the film.

I'm using the clear one. It's definitely not as smooth as glass but it's smooth enough. It's more smooth than a glass screen without a oleophobic coating. Fingerprint residue is minimal. The only case I have is the sandstone one from OnePlus and I have no problems with it.

Using the clear IQ protector here too. So far it's the best I've found. I've used the official TGSP, Orzly TGSP, and a couple other cheaper TGSPs. The wet application film screen protectors are the way to go for this phone it seems. Helps a lot with finger prints and I haven't had any issues with it not being slick enough.
think ill just go nude and use a thick case lol. haven't had any scratches on my s8+ which also has gorilla glass 5.
man do i hate how all phones have curved glass of some sort.
Damn those curves.. Let's hope that maybe in a few weeks we will finally get a proper screen protector.

I went and removed the factory installed protector, it was a bad idea. Now I have small hairline scratches on the bottom right corner. I've now ordered a tempered glass in Amazon to hide the scratches.
The one that came with the phone is fantastic imo. I haven't enjoyed tgsp since my nexus 6p because of the 2.5D curved glass craze, no tgsp fits any phone good anymore. Axon, Samsung (ROFL, you thought OUR screen was bad?) , I haven't looked at the screen protectors for the G6, but the screen doesn't appear to be 2.5d so that's a step in the right direction..
When my stock screen protector gets unusable, I'll buy the 30$ crash guard from rhinosheidl ?????? Just to see if the hype is real...
Unless someone already has photos of it....

Any idea when the crashguard is shipping. I don't wanna drop that type of money without looking at reviews.

No idea whatsoever, my stock screen protector from oneplus is still in fantastic shape, so I don't imagine ordering four a couple more months at least.
The ones for the oneplus 3 are 13 dollars on amazon, and ship with prime in the US.. So I imagine in a few weeks the price will become more better.
I've recently seen this on the taobao site. GOR branded TSP. I've used their flat ones on other phones and am quite satisfied with the performance. They have 2 versions, one with the black border, one with a edge sealant sort of thing. I'm planning to get the sealant version next month since my option to add items for cheap shipping is exhausted for July....
If anyone's in China or has bought one, some feedback would be appreciated.

Its says in the description, "Not edge to edge protection. (NOT FULL COVERAGE)" so there is no false advertising
