Broken USB / Cable thought - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just a thought - since day one I've used a USB cable from an old LG phone and yesterday I found the cable belonging to my X10 and tried it and I noticed a difference between the two cables right away. My LG cable I can plugin with two fingers using no force but my original cable I need to press on a bit hard before it is plugged in. And the metallic part on the LG cable is a tiny bit softer. Might just be a coincedence for me, but could this be why some people ends up with a broken USB connection? Just a thought.

Possible damage via Mini USB

Just to share my expirience, I know there are several threads here saying that the mini usb cable is fine.
When trying to find an extra sync cable, T-Mo said that the "blackberry" cables work. They gave me one, which was a re-branded standard usb (with mini) cable. I said I had lots of those.
After less than two weeks using the cable, the 4 pins on the bottom side of the phones connection (the ones that have no match to a mini usb) are no pushed up and bent flush. Now no cable will stay plugged in. Sitting on a table, the weight of the cable itself is enough to make it fall out.
Since I just got the phone, they replaced it for me. My wife got her phone the same day and doesn't use the mini usb cable.
Anyone else have this happen?
EDIT:
Looking at my new phone and the bottom 4 pins already looked flush. My old phone and my wifes phone they are clearly NOT flush. So I'm not sure what's right or how it's suppose to be.
Plus a co-worker has an HTC cable for some older HTC phone (not sure which) and it's a standard usb mini with htc sticker.
I've been plugging various standard mini-usb cables into my Kaisers for years. Never had trouble.

OEM USB Cable

Anyone have any idea where to get the SE OEM USB cable?
Ebay?

Do you have the model number?
I'll check when I get back home.

I'm curious as well. I thought that something was wrong with my phones USB port as I have to wiggle it around before it connects (very loose connection). tried plugging my phone in with other cables (blackberry and arc) and it stayed connected fine. Friend of mine plugged her phone in using my cable and it did the same thing as it does with mine. It's reassuring to know it's not the phone as that would be expensive to fix, the cable on the other hand is cheaper If you find one let me know.
Sorry, I seem to have lost the little tag on the USB cable that shows the model number.
Hi,
I have "datacable by OTB" which also charges my nokia for a few bugs from EBay. Every cable with mini- (micro-?) usb should do.
Ralf
Asked my friend, Model Number is EC600L
Ye any micro USB cable will work.
Some people prefer OEM
It's a feature! micro USB was intentionally designed so that the cable will wear out rather than the jack.
On another thread it was suggested that biting on the end of the cable tightens the cable allowing it to connect. I seem to have revitalized my old original cable though I substituted a pair of needle nose pliers for my teeth.

If you really want a model number I recently bought an OEM cable for a spare for work etc its labelled CA-101
As above though its a standard micro usb cable ...
(used this cable recently to flash and then reflash my x10i after killing my phone with various patching and the cable works great lol!)
Note I also use a Nokia mains charger for my spare work charger as that's all the guy had on his stall and it works just fine
I have the Nokia CA-101. ill check the OEM one when I get home. but I like the Nokia OEM one. it's longer :3

I am using an BB micro-USB cable as my alternative cable which cost me MYR10 around 3USD. Bought from a local Computer shop. Mobile phone shop sell at higher price.
Notice that the stock cable charge my phone bat. will reach @ 40'c while the BB micro-USB cable will above 40'c. Maybe due to the stock cable having 'resistor' locate near the both end of the cable meanwhile the BB micro-USB cable don't have.

Is my USB broken?

Hi everyone I just have a question, Is my USB Broken? My USB Data connect doesn't work unless I just keep have to changing the position, Sometime if i put it down it only charges , no USB debugging or anything, When I put more force I get the whole mounting SD and I could use flahtool, but my Charger works flawlessly... It has always chargede my phone .. Is it my USB side not working, or is it just my cable ?
Try a different cable. If it works, great problem solved. If not, most likely a broken usb port.

I got nearly the same Problem: my cable at home fits perfect (I can even shake my phone) - but if I use the cable I have at work it always reconnects only if I switch a Song of touch the screen - so I bei it is the cable

Same
Sometimes i accidently drop the phone while charging and that may cause problems with usb cable as internal cables may be damaged- now everytime i move the cable it resets the connection with computer...
My poor X10! Will look after it from now on!
I had the same issue and thought my USB port was bad however when I plugged in my bluetooth charger (also micro USB) it charged my phone.. I bit down a little bit on my usb** cable end to give it a tighter connection and voila.. works perfect now.
** I am not responsible for any broken teeth or accidentally swallowed USB cables, nor am I responsible in general
It turns out the micro-USB standard was designed in such a way as to put the parts that tend to wear out quickly in the cable rather than the device connector. This was done to maximize the number of connects/disconnects possible in the lifetime of the jack. This probably explains why cables stop working over time in some cases. (Perhaps the x10 is particularly sensitive)

Great suggestion! I seem to have revitalized my original cable (for charging anyhow, haven't tried connecting to the computer) with this technique. I substituted a pair of needle nose pliers for my teeth, though.

try using a different USB cable, or else try to clean the place where usb connects the phone port. Some dust or sticky material might create hindrance.

USB port sort of jacked up?

I took a mini USB cable and plugged it into my Amaze. It's the regular USB, not the Amaze USB, so it kinda wiggles around in the port. Then when I held up my Amaze with the USB in, it kept going on and off with the charging aspect of it. Anyone know?
Well...if it wiggles like you stated then that's your problem ya know. You lose the amaze cable?

I've got a mini usb cable that will do the same thing. Its because even though it will work, they can get loose enough that they won't make 100% contact. I've found that if you pinch the top part of the cable down a bit it'll grip onto the contacts better, but if you've got an HTC cable for your phone you're better off using it. The micro usb cables hold onto the contacts only, not the frame of the port like it should, while the HTC cable fits securely in the port and you run zero chance of anything breaking off.

Charging problem!!!! (FIXED)

I am having chatting issues. This just started happening when I woke up this morning. I forget if the micro USB is supposed to click when you plug it in the phone to start to charge. When I plug my phone in, I don't get any indication that the cable is locked in. Also if I move the cable ever so slightly. The phone will stop chatging. The USB cable feels like its gonna come out if I move the phone in any way.
I don't have any spare micro USB cable so I wanted to know if you guys are think this is a hardwarw problem or possibly if just the cable is messed up. Im hoping its the latter because I am not trying to replace my phone.
Also have any of you guys had this problem? Thanks
This isn't a question and answer forum.
Could be the cable. Different cables fit in differently. I personally use my kindle fire hd cable cuz it clicks in snugly with my htc charger.
