Hi everyone I just have a question, Is my USB Broken? My USB Data connect doesn't work unless I just keep have to changing the position, Sometime if i put it down it only charges , no USB debugging or anything, When I put more force I get the whole mounting SD and I could use flahtool, but my Charger works flawlessly... It has always chargede my phone .. Is it my USB side not working, or is it just my cable ?
Try a different cable. If it works, great problem solved. If not, most likely a broken usb port.

I got nearly the same Problem: my cable at home fits perfect (I can even shake my phone) - but if I use the cable I have at work it always reconnects only if I switch a Song of touch the screen - so I bei it is the cable

Same
Sometimes i accidently drop the phone while charging and that may cause problems with usb cable as internal cables may be damaged- now everytime i move the cable it resets the connection with computer...
My poor X10! Will look after it from now on!
I had the same issue and thought my USB port was bad however when I plugged in my bluetooth charger (also micro USB) it charged my phone.. I bit down a little bit on my usb** cable end to give it a tighter connection and voila.. works perfect now.
** I am not responsible for any broken teeth or accidentally swallowed USB cables, nor am I responsible in general
It turns out the micro-USB standard was designed in such a way as to put the parts that tend to wear out quickly in the cable rather than the device connector. This was done to maximize the number of connects/disconnects possible in the lifetime of the jack. This probably explains why cables stop working over time in some cases. (Perhaps the x10 is particularly sensitive)

Great suggestion! I seem to have revitalized my original cable (for charging anyhow, haven't tried connecting to the computer) with this technique. I substituted a pair of needle nose pliers for my teeth, though.

try using a different USB cable, or else try to clean the place where usb connects the phone port. Some dust or sticky material might create hindrance.

when i connect my phone to USB, i can't seem to use my phone at all... it's very slow and lag, ... if i install the OCLF, does it help? thanks
I had this problem when I used a cheap wall charger. I think it had to do with incorrect voltage or something. When I use the included cable and wall plug, everything works fine. With thaw $2 chargers, the touchscreen wouldn't register or was about 2 inches off or the buttons wouldn't work at all.
Not all chargers are made the same I suppose.

i actually use the usb cable that came with the phone !!??
Just a thought - since day one I've used a USB cable from an old LG phone and yesterday I found the cable belonging to my X10 and tried it and I noticed a difference between the two cables right away. My LG cable I can plugin with two fingers using no force but my original cable I need to press on a bit hard before it is plugged in. And the metallic part on the LG cable is a tiny bit softer. Might just be a coincedence for me, but could this be why some people ends up with a broken USB connection? Just a thought.

Hi,
Just to share, I tried to install the wireless charger in the phone but didn't work for me, I just managed to destroy the Palm circuit and my phone USB.
Wireless Charger
After installing it worked for 2 seconds and I ear some kind of buzzer and it just stopped working.
If you try to do this don't destroy your phone like me I can charge phone and all but no usb, so no new firmares, no new kernels, etc
Give for repair,,

I've tried to make my own OTG cable - same result as you
Thanks For Sharing
Sorry for You Loss
I'll Keep that in Mind since I can't leave any electronic device away from my fingers
just keep in mind that there's enough power in usb to burn your phone's elecronics
Hi ,
I have Samsung Galaxy s3 which was working fine for last 2 months.
Today when i connected my charger it showed as "USB connector connected" same message that comes when i connect OTG cable.
Hence my S3 is unable to charge.
Again my charger is recognized as OTG cable.
It is not rooted its a stock device. Please help. Shall i go to Samsung Service Centre ?? PLs suggest .
Turn off your phone and try plug it again. See if it charging or not.

Hello, struggling to find anything similar to the issue I am having, sure one of you more tech savvy folk could help.
My car a 10 plate golf has a built in media port through which I can charge and use my media devices, however since receiving my S3 I cannot get it to work. The in car system display states 'media device not recognised.'
To work around this I bought an aux jack to jack and plugged in to it that way and this works fine whilst the phone is disconnected. However when I connect the phone to the usb to charge, it automatically defaults to media device not recognised and disconnects the aux.
My old phone had the same issue (HTC desire) however this could be set to usb charge only which would prevent the car system from trying to use it as a media device simply providing charge.
However, I do not appear to have this option on my shiny S3.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could work around this? I do not really want to charge the phone using the cigarette lighter socket as this has fried other devices in the past.
Many thanks.

Hi, Tnx for your reply.
I already tried that.
Following is all what i did :
1. Rebooted couple of times
2. Removed Battery sim card everything
3. Changed my charger and connected with a new charge
4. Tried to connect to PC via usb (USB Charging), but did not work
5. Also a factory reset when nuthing worked
After all the hard work, i had to visit Samsung service and they are saying motherboard will be replaced.
I still dont know how did motherboard got busted, but anyways its free of cost so its cool.
Thanks
QC problem I think. Glad you solved the problem. Enjoy

Potentially the cable or charger is defective, try another one and see if it repeats.
The system recognizes the OTG-cable through a certain pin layout which might be triggered by a defective cable.
Also: you didn't change the ROM or any significant other part (e.g. Kernel) before it first appeared?
@buftybasher: Thread hijacking is considered very rude. Your issue has nothing to do with his.
however since receiving my S3 I cannot get it to work. The in car system display states 'media device not recognised.'

That's because the S3 doesn't have a mass storage (UMS) mode, only a mode specially designed for mobile devices, the so-called MTP.
Most probably your car simply is not capable of supporting this 4-year old standard and relies on the very old mass storage mode with FAT32 partitions.
If you store your music on the external SD card, you might want to take a look at the Easy UMS APK here on Xda, it should make your car be able to access the storage. (Not all kernels support the feature)
it automatically defaults to media device not recognised and disconnects the aux.

If you are any good with a soldering iron, you could open up a USB cable and cut off the 2 middle pins (D- and D+) which are used for data, then solder the corresponding resistance for 1Amp or 0.5Amp charging to the phone's side of the cord.
Voila: charging-only cable.
I am having chatting issues. This just started happening when I woke up this morning. I forget if the micro USB is supposed to click when you plug it in the phone to start to charge. When I plug my phone in, I don't get any indication that the cable is locked in. Also if I move the cable ever so slightly. The phone will stop chatging. The USB cable feels like its gonna come out if I move the phone in any way.
I don't have any spare micro USB cable so I wanted to know if you guys are think this is a hardwarw problem or possibly if just the cable is messed up. Im hoping its the latter because I am not trying to replace my phone.
Also have any of you guys had this problem? Thanks
This isn't a question and answer forum.
Could be the cable. Different cables fit in differently. I personally use my kindle fire hd cable cuz it clicks in snugly with my htc charger.
