Thats the rom. i've flashed back to stock 2.1 with the update. but im not sure what RFS is. I downloaded the one click UI for Vibrant with all kinds of options so i tried to flash the rom from there. It installed a cwm for me and i flashed the zip, went through but on reboot the cwm3's buttons are backwards and the rom wont start, keeps rebooting at the kernel screen and has wiped my internal sd. here are the instructions. thanks for any help.
~ To flash this rom you should be on RFS and then flash through recovery.
~ Once finished flashing, reboot
~ Now you should seriously just let it sit there for 15 minutes. I know, you want to play with it, but if you don't do this you will have problems. Period.
~ After 15 minutes, reboot. Don't even click through the startup screen, reboot right where it loaded.
~ After it reboots go through the startup and sign into google. Now let it sit there until google is completely done syncing.
~ Once sync is finished. Reboot AGAIN.
~ On next boot, now open your app drawer, open ext4 app and choose to convert to ext4
~ The key here is to be patient, let the conversion do its thing. It will reboot automatically when done.
~ Now when your phone boots back up you'll think you are good to go. WRONG! Give it ONE FINAL REBOOT.
rfs is the state your system files are at when Voodo (ext4) is disabled. So in other words, disable voodo before flashing this rom.
Now as to the way you should flash this, kudus to you for odining to stock. Now do it again, after so reboot to recovery. The update.zip file you had before should still be on your sd so once you enter stock recovery hit reinstall packages then the phone will reboot and either you'll face the 3e recovery or you'll have to hit reinstall again. Now once you're there wipe data then flash the rom's zip as usual.
i think i messed with the recovery before i flashed it cause i thought thered be a special kernel for it but i guess it flashes it with the rom. cool thanks man. btw which rom do you like the best so far? are you on gingerbread and whats your battery life like?

Im on MIUI now, that's GB. Battery life is good, obviously not as good as 2.2 or 2.2.1 though. But IMO it's damn worth it.
Try the two roms Dan ported on EDT they're both equally great and snappy. Especially Juwe.

i actually really like this rom, the only issue is i cant flash the kernels from sgs flasher, it always fails. is there a way i can take these zImage files and turn them into zips so i can flash them in cwm? The kernel is supposed to repair the video and camera app

Camera and video are fixed on the miui kernel. Its just that for some reason the rom refuses to play any other vid except the stock samsung one. So flashing the rainbow kernel won't fix that, hell it won't work in the first place since this needs its own cm7 like kernel.

Yes, camera and only the stock video works on miui regardless of the cm7 kernel you flash.

Uhm, not to ruin your whole flashing process, but alot of people have had problems with TW4 on Asgard, some haven't if you follow the official thread's instructions, but even after following it, i did, and i'm using Launcher Pro now.

hey xrider did you get the camera and video working on asgard? which kernel did you use and what method did you use to flash it? i tried the 1.2 rainbow(not sure what the rainbow effect is yet) and it just changed the video and camera from black to this snowey kind of screen
edit: strange i was messing with the battery and recalibrated it, tried to reboot into recovery to wipe battery stats with both the power button from the os, and then 3 button and neither worked, but on reboot camera and video work... hmph. since i solved that maybe you guys can tell me how to wipe battery stats from the OS, ive heard it can help improve battery life

I know and love EXT4.... I've sweared by voodoo and it was the only lagfix I ever even considered. Until recently.
I went back to stock JFD (use my guide if you like)
I downloaded and flashed Heathens Private Stock
* please note voodoo is not enabled, if you have voodoo, disable it before flashing if you don't odin back to jfd first.
And...
I can not tell a difference without Voodoo. It seems JUST as fast if not faster than the previous ROMs I have used. A huge kudos to jellette as this ROM feels very nice and has a very nice theme to it. Switching back and forth between apps and they load very fast.. not noticing lag like on JFD. I realize Froyo helped this, just surprised is all.
Benefits:
- Discovered if /system is EXT4 *voodoo* you can't restore a backup in CWR
- Not having to worry about disabling voodoo (not done so much anymore)
- Seems just as fast and phone is how it shipped
- Voodoo Sound can be loaded from the Voodoo Control Plus app (not missing that feature)
Cons:
-Not sure yet, I suppose lower quadrant scores (meaningless anyway). I am getting barely over 1k, but it feels just as fast as when I was using voodoo.
Encourage you guys to backup everything, go back to stock and then try this ROM....
Question remains, is voodoo necessary?

Good question! I was actually wondering this the other day. I tried a few different ROMs without lagfix.
I was wondering the same thing about it. "Is lagfix just a workaround to cheat higher quadrant scores?"
After a day or so on any ROM I tried without lagfix you would notice a slow down mainly in shutting down programs. Sometimes they would take up to 5 seconds to close! Opening programs slowed some but not nearly as noticeable. The dialer would take some time to open as well.
So in my experience lagfix seems to speed the phone in read/write capabilities. Which I imagine is what it was desinged for. You notice in Quadrant, that is where the most improvement is (In I/O).
So if you arent a real big phone geek (like most of us probably are) then the lagfix shouldnt make a huge difference to you. But, for me, I like my phone to fly doing anything. So lagfix enabled here!
It's not all about the speed. Its good to have a standard. This phone should've been on ext4 from the start. Supercurio has done a great job getting everyone switched over. I don't believe rfs is supported in cwm3+ either.
Just my opinion. I always use it. If I flash something else its an easy fix. Just flash an ext4 compatible kernel!
Edit:
I just reread your post, and I've never had a problem restoring backups. In fact, I flashed to an i9k Gingerbread ROM this morning, played around with it for a while (read: smashed my face against the gps), flashed a Froyo kernel and restored my nandroid without ever using ODIN or RFS
rfs = sux ballz (wen i first got my phone and started rooting one of the first things out of my mouth was wtf is rfs!)
ext4 = ahh, thats btr
I agree that stock felt oddly similar with voodoo enabled and disabled when i tried it for a day yesterday.
I disagree that you cant restore nandroids with CwMRecovery. For me it seems like its hit and miss which i'm gonna continue to test.

Don't get me wrong....
Like I said, I love Voodoo.. I've only considered EXT4 and it is my preference... thought I made that clear.
BUT, I have not noticed any difference with it vs. using jellette's ROM, and that is really surprising to me. I know it can tend to "slow down" over time (which I do not understand why).. but changing from app to app I am noticing no difference.
Regarding restoring backups....
I said that because the man himself made THIS COMMENT just yesterday. I have had issues in the past (5 x maybe) where a restore failed, never knowing why. I've also had them restore fine, not sure why the difference.

Talked to Ben Buchacher, you know the creator of SuperD.
I asked him what ROM and if he had lagfix.
He said he was using stock 2.2 and no lagfix, the lag went away in 2.2
PS he said TW ROMs weren't great.

Dude, that makes me so freaking happy. Is there a reason he is not gracing us on XDA.. I loved that guy back in the day.
You keep saying your using his rom, but which one are you referring to in hist thread? there is a 2.2.1 and a 2.2
I tried the 2.2 and it was laggy like the stock 2.2 and I have taken my phone all the way back to closed box and brought it up to 2.2(KB5) and there is always lag there. I don't mind Touchwiz but when a couple weeks go by and my phone starts crawling across the ground like a drunken sailor it gets a little aggravating.
Basically in my experience any rom, and I mean any, with or without voodoo runs great for a few weeks, but then the slowness comes back and you start to notice apps taking longer to open and close, MMS really starts to lag as well as the keyboard when typing. the gallery really takes a hit and showing pictures off on my 500 dollar 1Ghz phone becomes embarrassing. So with or without voodoo stock 2.2 on the Vibrant seems to run great but runs out of gas in a few weeks, some may last a month. 2.2.1(sucks with no Wifi calling) seems to keep going much better, and the browser is faster. So if your running 2.2.1 of his then yea you might see a better faster rom, but if you run his 2.2 I bet after a few weeks of regular use you will start seeing lag and get frustrated. And I bet even the 2.2.1 will start to crawl at some point.
Now I'm not dissing his rom or anyone else's. They are all based off of the crap the Samsung shoved out the door and yea a few tweaks here and there help, but every rom always seems to start crawling at some point and nothing seems to bring it back to day one other then reflashing.
Well, I guess once it's been out for a few weeks I will let you know. I am taking one of our best developers word on this matter though. I'm not saying I am right.. just pointing out someone smarter than me says so, and after using it for a few days I have to agree... so far.

which rom are you running the 2.2.1 or 2.2
The only thing really keeping me on 2.2 roms is wifi calling.
I'm on 2.2.
The rom is not perfect, but it works very well for me so far. I went to cut on my screen and it was stuck at all black (buttons would lite up) so I just held in power to reboot.... first time I've noticed ANY issue with this rom. Odd, I think it had something to do with me going crazy backing out of the browser and then shutting down my screen.

I have gotten that on quite a few roms including two versions of trigger and three stock builds. I get out of it by pressing the power button 3-5 times giving about 1-2 seconds between presses and it eventually came back.
I might try the 2.2 build out eventually.

I once knew a dog by the name of Raphael Francisco Sanchez. He pooped in the same place everyday, and then walked through it like the dumb mutt he was. Over time the poop built up till eventually the dog could no longer run and play with all the other little doggies, and when the lawnmower came around that spring, Raphael Francisco Sanchez barked his last bark.

I know this is a polarizing question, but I need to find a ROM that works best for my dad's Fascinate. Basically it needs to be stable and have decent battery life. It doesn't matter if it's a 2.2 or 2.3 ROM. Thanks for your comments!
there's a whole list of roms in the development section so you can take your pick, most are stable and provide pretty good battery life though it varies from phone to phone.. as for personal recommendations, I ran Adryn's SuperClean rom (last and latest version is 2.9.2) over a debloated stock EB01 rom, it was very stable and battery life was above average compared to my use of complete stock VZ rom. Second I would recommend what im running on now, Ultimate KangBang (UKB)/Community Rom (ComRom) 2.1. its pretty stable, little bugs here and there but overall very nice and battery life again I would say is above average. Of course this all depends on the custom kernel you choose to run with the rom, I am on UKB 2.1 with stock kernel because my Fascinate doesn't take kindly to undervolting or overclocking so no special kernel for me... hope this helps, take a look around this forum and read the different rom threads in development to see how to install/files to download/known bugs within the rom/user feedback
tapatalked from my KangBanged Fascinate
vote for Comrom 2.1 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073363
I hate to say it, but if all you're looking for is stable and decent battery life, go with stock. On a particular phone another ROM may be more stable or offer better life, but no ROM will do so across the board for all phones. Most likely, whatever ROM you try will be no more stable and have no better battery life than stock.
Of course custom ROMs offer other benefits such as being de-bloated or de-binged. But for stability and battery life you are at least as likely to be worse off with a custom ROM as better. You can improve the odds substantially if you have the time to test out different ROMs and settings to find out what works best for that particular phone, but it doesn't sound like you do.
Well i have used practically all the ROMS available at this point ( except CM ) and with my personal experience i can say go for

Now I know opinions are like a**holes.... everybody has one, but lets see if we can cut through the BS and get real answers with real experiences.
And I also know there are always threads like this coming up but I have not found an answer searching that I like.
Now for my story, I have a Xoom and and EVO that I have been using for quite some time now and am personally good with ROMs that have bugs and ROMS that are experimental, but my question has to do with my girlfriends Vibrant. I have had her on the team whiskey roms in the past with pretty good luck but right now I am just looking for the most stable and non glitchy ROM out there, I know there has to be one that people are using for daily drivers without bugs and whatnot with minimal upkeep that she can use and not get mad at me for something not working right
I know the ICS roms out now are not the answer as there is just too much unknown right now to create a stable release with no bugs and EVERYTHING working so can someone point me to a couple ROMS to try that advertise everything working the way it should (with the exception of going back to stock and anything with touchwiz)? Thanks in advance.
Fishman's Bionix-V Mod. He's done you the service of baking an Odin flashable file for it too making it really quick to swap over and be rooted up and ready to roll.
If not his maybe give one of Moped Ryder's ROMs a go. I only lean on Fishman's because I run "stock" Bionix-V and it's by far my favorite for a flash it and forget it kind of ROM (although I like tinkering with different kernels). Fishman's comes with Bali's UV kernel so it's good to go for a daily driver out of the box.
Fishman's Bionix Mod for me too. It's very stable, great battery life (for me), GPS locks in a few seconds and has T-Mobile WiFi calling which for me is important.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441976
I know you said no ICS but passion v13.1 is very stable. I ran it for 3 months no issues before I switched for something with more customization available.
SGH-T959 ICS Gummy 1.2
Thanks guys I will give fisherman's a go
so the problems I am having with fishmans rom is that the scrolling on the apps is very laggy, and the web is very slow... new radio? ideas? i didnt do the odin flash but rather did a factory wipe and loaded the rom wiped dalvik and wiped cache let the rom bake for approx 10 min. how can I verify this, I searched and found lots of posts about voodoo lagfix but there is nothing like that for my other phones and tablet so I am not too familiar with it. is it a setting in recovery? Or do I need to flash a zip?

You can check Voodoo in CWR. When you boot into Recovery there's an option for 'voodoo' and in there you can check all of that. If you're running Fishman's Bionix Mod it should already be enabled by default though.
Another thing you can try is use something like the Spare Parts app, or go into the Display option in Settings and turn all the animations to Fast. That won't necessarily help with app scrolling, but it makes the overall feel of the ROM "snappier".
I also added the following line to my local.prop file in the data directory (/data/local.prop):
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
Check XDA and you can read a little bit that it helps with the redraw of the homescreen, and I noticed a difference. But use something like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (my fav) and you can make those changes to the file and then reboot.
If you do make that change, keep in mind that using something like Bladebuddy will overwrite anything you add.
I'm a little late to the game. I've been running AOSP GB for a while and just decided to flash an ICS ROM yesterday. The kernel I have is imoseyen's leankernel.
I flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879151 Liquid Smooth ICS.
It seems to be working fine but i have one qualm about it. The touch screen doesn't seem to flow as naturally as it did when I had GB. It seems to be more sticky. Is anyone else having trouble with this?
Also Navigation seems to be dumbed down as it doesn't say street names anymore. Not a big deal but I'm confused at how the UI of specific apps has changed in the upgrade when it is still the same app.
My other question is in regards to this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122886 ICY-S by MaceksMod
I'm thinking about moving over to this ROM if the stickiness isn't resolved.
However, What is the kernel used for this ROM? I'm pretty sure it's AOSP but I kept seeing mentions of Sense & Team BAMF (who uses Sense).
Glad to see there are still devs for this phone!
You cant use a gingerbread kernel with an ics ROM. Just use the kernel that comes with the ROM.

Not to say anything bad about MaceksMod's mod but it is very new, may need time to mature. If you like Liquid's ICS try Twisted Umbrella, its essentially the same thing with more updates/fixes whatever. And yes the screen scrolling is fixed on that one.

Thanks for the replies.
I will check out Twisted Umbrella.
Where can I find an ICS kernel for the Thunderbolt? What type of file is the kernel in the ROM package? Is it typically the boot.img? Does every ROM downloaded have a kernel that is attached to it?
There aren't any custom kernels yet,I do believe twisted has been working on one for his Rom. Kernels are usually baked into the Roms

There aren't any aftermarket ICS kernels for the thunderbolt yet because we don't have the source code to build them yet. Yes the boot.img does contain the kernel and all Roms have to have a kernel or they will not boot.

I flashed 8.5 yesterday and all is supposed to be working. I am currently having issue with the WIFI connecting or staying connected if it connects.
I am not sure if it is r/t to the MaceksMod's rom. I am sure there will be many as soon as the OTA is widly distributed.
That ROM is essentially sense since it is based off of the leak. If you want to found some really goof and stable ICS Roms then I suggest going to infectedrom.com. Santods sense Roms are the best and you won't be disappointed.

Thank you guys for the responses.
I've been using TwistedUmbrella's ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056575 for a little over 24 hours now. I like it but random apps keep on crashing and rebooting the phone.
Some examples include: making a phone call, ruzzle, facebook, gmail, quickpic, etc. I'm not sure if these are app specific but some of the freeze-reboots happen when executing a command such as deleting pictures and entering a username/password.
I don't really know where to start troubleshooting this or if this is just a ROM instability. My install procedure was wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash the kernel that was supplied in the thread (baseKernel-184Mhz_01-14-2013_22.55.zip), flash the ROM, and reboot. Earlier today, I decided to wipe the cache and dalvik again to see what would happen. The ROM does seem to run a little better but I am still experiencing the random reboots.
Have you guys experienced this? Is there a fix to this?

I used MacekMod's ROM for a little while but found the lack of customization to be unappealing. I like using the power widgets on my phone (not sure if it's the correct term but that bar of toggle icons that appears when you slide down the android menu) and was sad that it was not available.

I have heard of this and I have heard santod suggest that the ramdisk may need some tweaking. Probably won't get fixed anytime soon but what do I know.

I guess I can hold out til a fix is released. It is annoying but I have to say it boots up pretty fast.
Yea most aosp Roms will because they have such a small footprint. Try unsense on infectedrom.com. Its a heavily desensed rom that is so close to aosp you won't be able to tell a difference and it has a working camcorder too.

Maceksmod icy-s
I am running this mod and it seems very smooth... took 2 minutes for my SMS to backup using SMS Backup and Restore, taking it about 18 hours to restore them though (ugh... gotta be a better way to move SMS messages from one ROM to another!!!)... anyway, what I am wondering is... it looks like the icy-s camera app is going to work fine for front facing camera and recording video, but how do you make Google+ use that camera instead of the stock one in order to use google hangout???
:crying::crying::crying:
Update?
I am currently running Beta 8.5 RC4... It is running pretty well except radio doesn't seem to be a solid as the old .19, and the camera is flakey with google hangouts. I see there is a 9.5 now... can I do a dirty flash to update? Does it have an updated radio??
Thanks
Hello,
I have Sola for 6 months by now and it was a hell of a phone till i decided to upgrade to ICS. After that, my performance decreased signifcantly and I can't even do simple tasks. Tasks which a low end phone can do, even better then mine, such as the simple Galaxy Y S5360. And, yes, i get pissed when I look this phone behaving better then mine.
I tried to downgrade to GB, to upgrade to ICS, install a custom ROM of ICS and etc. Lately i tried Munjeni JellyBean, and after that, eXperience Innovation ROM. All of them have a good performance, but still, they do poorly then the Galaxy Y.
I miss my performance and i want to ask you guys, how the hell can i have my phone acting like a real dual-core phone?
Hope you guys can help me
Thanks

The jb roms are not really stable yet. You can try experience v2 rom which is ics based rom and then if you have an unlocked bootloader u can change kernels or even oc ur device. And also what di you mean by slower?
Sent from my MT27i
I mean that i can't even multitask with dolphin browser and some other app without having major slowliness in the phone. Or anything that my phone can possibly do (by his specs) and is not being able to do it. I have to uninstall Facebook app and Messenger app cause they crap the hell out of my phone.
Won't the GB experience would be faster/more efficient? Can't you guys reccomend me any "THE ****" rom for Sola? I mean...a kernel and a rom that can really bring me the experience of having a good phone (again).
Thanks

Ohh well yeah i think this rom was not really meant for multitasking though but i think this rom is better than the stock ics http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162832
How about you try that out too? And also i suggest the speedy kernel just search it and youll see that kernel. Good day

Thank you all for your answers.
I'm installing Speedy Sola v5.5 now and eXperience™ v2...I will report in a few hours.
I've tried to install the kernel via CWM and my phone got stuck on the boot screen.
Tried with 2 SpeedySola kernels already (ICS and JB) and they do not work.
Just reporting.

Wait there is a kernel for the experience v2 included i the zip u fastboot that first and then u copy the kernel in sd then flash it via recovery. Or if you already do that try wiping data. Hope that helps

I ****ed up.
I was randomly installing kernels (dumb attitude) until my phone just can't run CWM anymore. Nor being at flashmode or fastboot @usb connection.
What the heck can i do?

Ohh I think u really be careful with kernels but try pressing power plus vol up button until it vibrates 3 times then try fastbooting again. Or try flashing stock ics again and start there

Hey!
I managed to flash the ICS stock from somewhere and it is kinda flying right now.
But i have a little feeling inside of me telling me that it will suck soon...so, i'm gonna give a chance to eXperience then.
Thanks and see ya

Root it and debloat it asap. It would fly on and won't get back to Earth then, I bet.
Back up always before doing stuff
Before even thinking about installing new roms, kernels, mods, tweaks.. anything be sure that you've backed up using recovery and have saved it not only on your phone but your pc also.. that way if anything f***s up, all you need to do is restore and your saved.
Okay, i need your guys help again.
My phone did great till now, but its kinda slow already. So, i want to upgrade the kernel/rom/whatever to make it fly again. Would you guys recommend me some updates?
I was thinking of "eXperience Innovation" or maybe "Ultimate Rom V11". Those roms will make my phone better? As i said previously, I just need my phone behaving like a dual-core powerful phone as it is.
Thanks :cyclops:
Install cm9 or cm10.1. best roms for our phones, hands down
I suggest that you must try project xvr rom, its more stable and really smooth, no problem with multitasking, etc.
