[Q] Battery terrible when data is being used - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy,
So my fascinate is running great with commrom 1.3 and the stock OTB 1.4 kernal, it idles great, my only issue is when I'm actually using data, my battery gets murdered. And I know data use is hard on a phone, but its like 5% every 10 or so minutes and that can't be right. The phone is totally fine if I'm watching videos or listening to music, but browsing these forums or reddit and I'm toast. I'm on the ED01 radio and not roaming. Ideas?

Adjust your uv settings or even try a different kernel. The comavolt kernel is stable & so is the -50 or -100 pbjtime from imnuts. Both have pretty good records for battery life.

Don't forget to wipe the battery stats after a good overnight charge...that may help you too

Battery life, stock vs custom rom.

So, I flashed back to stock the other day and used it for a bit. I noticed that the battery life seemed better. So after some tests I ran, I find I get about 3 1/2 hours on super clean, 4 hours on aosp and 15 hours on stock. I ran them from full to shut down with no activity other that screen always on and a live wallpaper. I even deleted the bstats on super clean and got the same result almost to the minute. Any ideas?

This is very interesting. We are always trying to remove limitation on our phones OS while those limitations must be there for some reason.
Dunno anything about this. I always turn off most services on my galaxybs running darky o.t and i have pretty reasonable bat. life although its.kind of.irregular.

3.5 hrs sounds about right for me for superclean, too. I read the news every morning and by the time I finish (~1-2 hrs) I'm getting the low battery beep. It's absurd. Maybe it's time for me to go back to stock. I love SC 2.92 but if it means charging a phone all day or using it all day, I'd rather use my phone.
How are the hacked dj05 and DL09 roms for battery life? Does anybody still have those files lying around?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I tried dj05. Was not much better. But I was coming from super clean, I should try it coming from stock and see what happens.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I use SC and am on it all the time.... Music, internet, texting, facebook, etc... I normally get approximately 10 to 12 hours...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Second on superclean.
Using EB01 baseband, eb16 kernel, sc 2.90. Battery is 4+ hours display on & 12 or so hours before I charge it, even with gps, 3g and wifi on all day. Just sitting, it is typically good for 24 hours or more, but I seldom let that happen. It is similar to what I got on eclair. Maybe a little worse, but totally worth having the improved OS.

Battery on bionix 1.3.1

Guys.. I've been using bionix 1.3.1 since yesterday and its been sucking the crap outta my battery. It consumes around 1% every 5mins even in the standby mode. And the gps too isn't working. I even reinstalled the rom.
Any help?
What kernel are you using? I'm on bionix 1.3.1 with the Tiger's Blood kernel - undervolted the CPU and always have the screen on lowest brightness (which is still too bright IMHO), and did some tweaking with the XDA superpower app... I've gotten 40 hours out of the battery once. The majority of the time cellular data was completely disabled and I was using Wifi (have it at home and at work). But I can normally get at least 24 hours out of it.
Hmm .. My kernel version is 2.6.32.9. And I keep my brightness at the lowest level. I had to charge my phone 4 times in just one day by only moderate use, previously when I had toxic darky hI had to charge only twice and it would have been on till the next morning.

Could you give me some more info on this.
Do I need to download an app for under volting?
I did not install anything extra, no CPU mods, no voltage mods and I get about 22 hours of light-to-moderate use.You might want to Odin back to stock and reflash.
Do I really need to flash back to stock? I mean re-flashing bionix or odin back to stock and then flash bionix what's the difference? I might as well just re-flash bionix.
Ps: now the pace has picked up and it consumes 1% every 2mins with bionix 1.3.1 and kb5 modem
Well Iam thinking of reverting back to toxic darky 9.5. Does kb5 support the rom??

Try flashing different modems n see which one works. Recondition ur battery. Im running bionixv with kb1 kernel and kb5 modem. 3days battery life with moderate use.

An ODIN back to stock is sometimes recommended - it can fix some issues. It might help with your GPS issues, I've never had a problem w/ GPS on Bionix (other than the standard vibrant GPS problems)
I'd ODIN back to stock and then try installing bionix again, as recommended before. ODINing will supposedly completely overwrite some potential remnants/problems that are going on.
To undervolt, you must first install a kernel that supports undervolting. I use Tiger's Blood - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=994694 . Once you have a kernel that supports it (it'll usually say "UV" in the thread) then you can use Voltage Control (available on market) to change the voltages.
I also use the XDA superpower app, available on the android market.
You may want to recondition your battery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12586421&postcount=384 is one suggestion on how to do it, everyone has their own method of how to do it.

High Android System and Android OS Battery Usage

My fascinate has been running beautifully. I just transferred to blackhole 4.4 from sc 2.9.2, w/ jt's 4-15 uv ED10 voodoo kernel (previously on imnuts's 100mv drop voodoo) and ec01 radio. My main issue is battery. On any given day for the past few months, under battery usage, android system is always second. It seems that Abdoid system and os eaxh download over 10KB per minute, and up to a few megabytes an hour. They also have extremely high CPU usage times, and I believe this is killing my battery (between 6 and 10 percent an hour idling w/ the screen off) I think such drain is extremely weird. I've tried reflashing, disabling autosync, and disabling autobackup, but I still at am about a MB per hour. Any suggestions? Carrying around a charger really sucks...

This would certainly fit nicely in Q&A. Just sayin ....
Did you sign yourself out of google talk yet? And disable the auto start of talk?
I also uncheck that "not very clear" option in display settings at the bottom.
And the news and Weather auto refreshes on its own unless you disable that..
And then there is Juice defender..

I think it has something to do with the 4-15 Kernel. That build for some odd reason has battery issues. I would flash the kernel before that.

[Q] What is the best ROM/Kernel/ Modem in Chicago, IL location.

Hello I live in Chicago, IL. I ran multiple roms with different kernels and modem.
I have used:
Bionix Next Gen/ KB1-KB5-KA5/ Tigers Blood- Bali
Galaxy Extreme/ KB5/ Bali
The problem is battery. I know with location the modem and kernel matters. If you guys can tell what is the best combication in my location, that would be great.
Thanks
Hey man im just south of you. Im doing pretty good with kb5 modem. I am on edt's sgsII. With the 1.48 ghz test kernel clocked at 1 ghz. Ive also done some cpu scheduling manipulation through the advanced tab on setcpu. The best way to improve battery is to use juice defender or superpower to disable your phones radios when the screen is off. But that only improves battery while the screen is off. By changing the cpu scheduling ive been able to improve screen on battery efficiency. But I am not done finding a kernel that works the way I want it. And I have no idea how to forge one myself.

Rom/Kernel is your choice...but check my sig...
For modem, I got 5mbps a couple of times with KB5
Thanks because I have my phone on standby and the battery goes from 100% to 97% and also I use lot of youtube and 15 minutes of video drains down to 85%.
From the city of chi. I use trigger 3.2 with bullet clock at 1.42 . I also use juicedefender . So far 10 hours past , i still have 60 % to play with . This is with moderate use . Hit me up if u want some tips in the settings

thanks and what kernel and modem do you use?
To be honest with you the "BEST" kernel/modem would be the stock. Any developer will tell you that a modded/custom kernel will drain your battery faster than the stock. You're better off bringing a portable charger with you if you're on your phone a lot all day and you're worried about battery life.
And believe me, I've flashed every rom out there. I was even flashing Eugene's Behold II roms when I had one.

most economical rom?

Hey guys I love all these custom ROM's but honestly the battery gets drained so fast it takes the fun out of it. I was wondering if there was any specific ROMs that were easier on the battery>?? The only feature I truly use on these things is the wifi tether, other than that I don't care if the phone is a litte slower etc, i just want to be able to make it a day on 1 battery..TIA
I can easily make it a full day with the PowerWashed 2.0b3. Yet I also have Juice Defender Ultimate installed.
Ill be quite honest, gingerbread is not what its cracked up to be imo... I have found that powerwashed 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal is one of the most stable roms out there. Im getting between 1.5-2% percent battery drain per hr. That means I go 2 days without charging the phone with normal use. Heavy use such as browsing the internet for a couple hrs and sending dozens of texts usually equates to charging the battery once a day or slightly better. The only issue is not all fascinates play nice with the -100 undervolt that the pbj kernal has built in. If thats the case, then just run the otb fusion kernal that come with pw 1.2...battery life is still good(2.5% per hr) and you can overclock with that kernal, but truthfully overclocking does not really improve much imo.
Wow thanks guys! Yea I am on MIUI and its horrible.. I will look into the ROMs you guys suggested..thanks!
vanilla gb is insane. running with the glitch 9/15 kernel, undervolted, smartass, noop and usas tweak applied, simply the fastest rom i've ever used battery is also holding up really well, but I have the naztech 2400 installed just yesterday, so battery should only get better with more charges. pwgb is also really good, but the file system is still samsung rfs, which is really slow. Pw froyo is probably the better choice for most people with pbjt kernel which has voodoo. Ill stick with vgb and see how battery does and if it doest yield me 6hrs of screen on time ill switch back to pw froyo and see how it does.

Ok sweet! Yea, everything seems to be good, only issue I am having is in BLN it says the Biblight isnt working or something like that..Voodoo control is g2g, just the BLN. I'll have to look into it
I had the same problem with bln not working on this kernel. What worked for me was to flash the older 0531 kernel first, then flash the 0808 kernel. Bln works fine after that.

Actually pwgb beta 3 with adrenaline shot mod is yielding some crazy results for me. Screenshots to follow when battery decides its held on long enough.
Only my 2nd day on ED05 powerwashed w/ pbj0808, but man I must be doing something wrong. At BEST my battery is draining roughly 5% an hour and thats with practically little to no use. NO clue how you guys are getting such good battery life...
Seriously, just odin the pwgb and flash the adrenaline v7 and thank me later.

What kind of programs do you have open/on, on a daily basis? I found that twitter absolutely destroyed my battery. I actually turned notifications off unless its a DM or @ me, otherwise I just open Plume and refresh to read the timelines.
Its doing A LOT better since then. I haven't used the phone much, but its only at 75% and Its 140pm, been off the charger since 6am
I am gonna see how it is this weekend when I am actually using it more
@Droidstyle: I was thinkin of trying out for starters the rom you recommended "powerwash 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal" but when i did a search for powerwash 1.2 the thread mentioned that it was outdated and to try gingerbread...just a little confused since i'm still new at this: considering my samsungs fascinate uses this base band (this is the general info of my phone Model : SCH-I500
Firmware Version 2.2.2
Baseband Version: S:I500.04 V.ED05

i will have to use a rom that supports ED05? or am i okay to try out any of these roms? did a lot of reasearch today, just trying to narrow it down as to which rom will be the most apt for me (meaning which one will i get the best use out of) and what will i be able to do after that? do i apply themes from the themes section, or i can only do that if they correspond to that specific rom? to anyone in the room please enlighten me, i've spent almost all of today researching this and would greatly appreciate help from the experienced...

Im not sure why he did that... Its a very functional rom and is up to date as much as it needs to be. Read my guide, uses that rom for an example on how to install a froyo rom. You are not limited to what your base band shows, you can flash 2.3.4 gingerbread roms if u like,, but they still have a few minor bugs. Actually 2.2.2 pw 1.2 ed05 is the most functional rom up to date imo... everything lse still has minor bugs to work out.
@DroidStyle thanks man, your guide to flashing power wash is pretty direct, but i'm a little lost here...Isn't the Rom mgr. program you install for the market used for flashin the Roms so that you don't have to odin the rom to the fascinate? also, can I apply whatever themes? ...ie: are those used to customize ur GUI?

Stay away from rom manager!!!! It only works for the mtd based roms such as cm7, miui, aosp... even then odin is a much more reliable way to work with the fascinate. imo just get use to the fact that your going to have to use odin most of the time when flashing.
