Hi,
I am trying to delete emails from my IMAP account an my SGSII (Samsung stock emailing programm).
Now my problem is that all emails I delete once just reappear the next time I sync with my IMAP account. So its simply impossible to delete emails on my phone.
This problem also exists on the GalaxyTab as far as I know.
Hotmail works fine(but hotmail doesnt use IMAP as far as I know).
One simple solution would be to just not use the samsung emailing program. I tried K9 today, but I kinda dont like the fact that it doesnt come with an widget. I also like the stock program better.
Any clue what I am doing wrong?
its also not possible to open most attachments directly from inside the emailing application(.pdf,.jpg etc.).
It does work occationally but must of the time it doesnt.
Solved:
Not using Polaris Office did the trick for me.

How did you resolve the IMAP email problem? I'm experiencing the same behaviour. Gmail IMAP works fine (with the stock email client, not the stock Gmail client). However, my work email which is IMAP doesn't work correctly.
I simply stopped using the stock program.
And now I kinda started to love K9.
But K9 didn't get along with my hotmail account(it has no IMAP;always redownloaded old emails;I had a data usage of 200mb in one day^^) so I started to auto. redirect all my mails to gmail. That works flawless til now.
oh man, same here!
I use the same settings on Nexus One, V880 or even Ipod Touch, both works except SG2! any clue yet?
No I didnt find no solution.
I am happy with K9 now .
Greets.
Apparently using POP instead of IMAP, you have the option to delete from the server... Of course IMAP is supposed to do this anyway, but worth considering POP - especially if the other advantages of IMAP are of no interest to you.
Personally, folder synchronisation means nothing if it can't even sync deleted emails...
I tried to chase this up with Samsung support, but of course they're useless... It's obviously a software bug, but they suggested a reflash and then trip to the service centre if that doesn't fix it...
We all know a trip to the service centre will certainly not fix it if a reflash wont...
Curiously, I've got a VHA ROM on my phone, and wondering what everyone else has, presuming it might be an issue in the branded ROM, but not in the generic ROM...
I'm sure I'm not the only one who cares, but I did a little bit of research, and although it doesn't seem to help, there's setting the IMAP path prefix (usually 'INBOX'), which should direct deleted emails into INBOX.Trash as opposed to the android Trash folder, and therefore delete them off the server.
Sadly, trying 20 variations, I still couldn't get it to work... but it might work with your email provider (just didn't with mine)
If all else fails, and you really want to use the Samsung email app (which I do, since K9 does not have activesync Exchange support - only the other one, which doesn't help me), instead of deleting emails, just go: Menu/Move to Folder/INBOX.Trash - this is the same as what Delete should be doing...
Hope that helps somewhat...
same issue: any solution found yet?

I have a .mac account setup using IMAP4 protocols. However, it's asking for a send and receive schedule on the phone. Am I wrong in assuming that whenever there is a change to the IMAP server, that change is sent to the phone, i.e. new email???
I have email on the server and it doesn't get to the phone until the send and receive schedule executes. So, my question then is what is the point in IMAP?
Anyone have any experience with this?
Well from what I'm seeing it's WM...yay?
From what I've found, yeah. It's just a limitation of pocket outlook to not support/use IMAP IDLE. You still get the advantages of folders, etc stored on the server, just no idle/push like you would on a desktop client. there are 3rd party e-mail programs that do support IDLE, though I haven't tried any of them myself. Perhaps some others may have suggestions on a more fully feature IMAP client, perhaps even one that integrates well into TF3D?
Well crap.
We switched everything over to Mac a year or so ago. Getting my MobileMe account to work "properly" on the TP is becoming a PITA. Worked great with the iPhone though, DUH...
I signed into Windows Live on my phone and set up my live.com email address, and changed some of the settings. It's working very similar to an exchange account, which is what I was after anyway. I even closed the Windows Live program and it still works, so I'm assuming that its settings are server based.
Anyhoo...I have exchange email for work on the phone, and now "exchange-like" email for personal use. Anyone want to buy a MobileMe account???

I've been using SEVEN BETA. Since it's in perpetual beta it's free. It fully integrates into TF3D, is very easy to set up, and reliable. It is the same program that Sprint and ATT use for their E-mail setup. I don't know how to add a link on here so google it.

Since the Touchwiz update, my two IMAP email accounts refuse to delete emails on the server. The messages appear deleted, but on refresh they reappear.
The pre-touch-wiz email client worked fine.
Anyone else experiencing this? Know of a fix?

Had the same problem with the stock email client on my Charge. Wound up going with K-9 on the phone and stuck with that on the GTab as well; never even thought to try the stock email. Last time I checked for the Charge there wasn't a fix; be interested in finding out if there is one for the GTab.

I tried K-9, and while there are some things it does well, the flaws outweigh the strengths. In addition to my two IMAP accounts, I have an Exchange account from my day job that I need to monitor. K-9 doesn't do exchange well at all. The K-9interface is optimized for small (phone) screens, not tablets. I wanted it to work for me, but it doesn't.
I like the interface on the TW email client. I just can't believe such a basic flaw as not deleting mail on the server got past the developers--and I'm surprised it isn't causing more uproar.
This is really sad. The GTab 10.1 is the first Android tablet with the potential to take on the iPad, but it won't evenpass the giggle test with bugs like this. AAAARGH!

Agreed that k9 isn't the greatest. Also that the issue with the stock client is beyond ridiculous. I looked into Touchdown, but didn't go with it (can't remember why). That one is supposed to have great Exchange support; not sure about IMAP though.

Touchwiz IMAP issue--update
To recap the problem: After the recent TouchWiz update, the native email client no longer deletes IMAP email on the server. Email appears to delete, but on refresh reappears.
I tried Samsung's twitter support yesterday, looking for answers on this problem. I finally received an honest but not terribly helpful response:
"I've tested this on our Tab here and it does that too. Unfortunately there' s no way to change that. I believe it depends on which email client you have."
I reminded her that there's only one email client on the stock GT10.1, the update broke it, and she just confirmed it as a bonifide issue. Response:
"I have reported this to our product specialists. Unfortunately, I don't have any info pertaining to a fix, I apologize."
When I asked if there was anyone I could expedite this with, she suggested I try the Android market and use a different email client. I'd do that cheerfully if there were an email app in the market that's optimized for tablet interface instead of phone screens.
Overall, not a satisfying experience. I understand that the support tweeps can only do so much, but it didn't leave me confident that anything will change in the reasonable future.

I hate to say it, but it left me almost wishing I'd bought an iPad. As much as I hate the Apple agenda of controlling the world and thinking on behalf of the mindless drones it controls, at least the (employer-owned) iPhone I have does email reliably and can connect me to my Juniper remote access VPN. At this point, the GT 10.1 can't do either for me.

I had the same problem and removing the application data (Settings->Applications-> go to the gmail app) fixed the problem for me for now.
The app will have to re-sync all the emails after but now it deletes and marks messages as read correctly.

One of the first things I tried. Didn't work for me--but then again, I didn't try it with gmail, only with the two IMAP accounts I use daily.
I finally broke down, rooted the thing, and flashed it with the original release ROM. All working fine. The only thing I lost was some of Samsung's crapware and of course the less-than-impressive TouchWiz interface. Not a huge loss, IMO.
Lesson learned: Beware of manufacturers bearing gifts and upgrades.

Hello guys. I got my sgs2 with stock firmware 2.3.3 two weeks ago. I was able to set up every account flawlessly except for my exchange office email. It keeps displaying 'set up could not finish/ Cannot connect to server'. All my entries are correct and my network too is good. I tried connecting on my former device, samsung vibrant, and worked flawlessly. So also on some other devices i tried. I have read in this forum several solutions and inhave tried them all. Connect through wifi , using the exchange account under 'accounts and sync ', using 'edge' only type of connevtivity , i have also updated to stock 2.3.5 and still having the same problem. I dont want to change the email apk as some did and will prefer using the stock email app (not third party app)
Please, does anyone having any idea on getting my exchange account to connect on the sgs2? I need to sync my exchange contacts, mails and calender. Will appreciate every response to solving this problem.
Thanks guys

I know you don't want to use a third party app but your problem may be on the administrator side of your account. Try the demo of Touchdown Exchange and see if that works. If it does, then you know it's a samsung problem.
Btw, there is a limit to the number of phones you can add to your email account with exchange. Each time you put on a new rom, it treats this as a new phone. Through owa or outlook, check how many mobile devices are registered to your account.
Setup for Office 365 Exchange Account (Small Business)
I just got my SGS2 today and tried setting up my Office365 Exchange account.
I ran into issues, getting a similar error message to OP.
The solution was:
1st Screen
- on the 1st setup screen, fill in username and password
- choose "Manual Setup"
- when asked what type of account, choose "Exchange Activesync"
2nd Screen
- there are 3 fields: a) Domain:user name b) Password c) Exchange Server
a) format is domain\user name (i.e. whatever.com\[email protected])
b) already filled in
c) normally, server address is m.outlook.com when using Office365. Samsung dares to be different - you need to find your actual server address, not the generic one.
Go to this address to get details for filling in these fields: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936215.aspx
Once I accepted the various activation messages, an error message flashed very briefly, but then sync was established and I synced very quickly.
I think the message was: "Cannot open connection with server due to security error", but I can't be sure
I ignored that error message, as sync seems to be working perfectly, with "push" activesync.
This was discussed on the Office 365 forum. Here's the link: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/160/t/5282.aspx
I realise you may not have Office 365 Exchange, but I'm posting this in case it may be of help in some way.
P.S. Must say, I'm very chuffed that Samsung's native Exchange client supports Tasks and SMS sync, in addition to the standard options. SMS Sync seems faster than it was on HD2...
thanks guys. I really appreciate all the responses. I have tried out the solutions provided . I installed the touchdown app and it worked straight away. my mails, calendar, contacts & talks sync completely.
I also read through the links provided above and really never made any error initially on setting up my exchange account. Though I still followed through the steps/settings for exchange setup and still encountered the problem. one thing I like to clarify is that I am not sure if the server in my office is 'office 365' has being explained on that site. I think we use the exchange 2007. if the exchange server type is the issue, will using one if the email apk posted under themes and apps section work for me if installed? Because, I really will prefer using a stock email app. or is there any other way I can get the stock email app to work without giving me those error messages?
Also, will installing one of the custom roms get it working?
I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "
Simply put, trying to get my Hotmail account working on my Note has been a nightmare. I've tried every app I can find and none seem to work with anything other than POP3. The stock eMail client on ICS 4.0.4 *kinda* works with the exchange server, with the problem of having to scroll to the bottom of every single eMail and click on "Load More Details". The way it handles combined view is also clunky and awkward. This is obviously unacceptable. Is this fixed in JB? Do I need to install a custom ROM? I read that the HTC Sense-based ROMs don't have this issue. All I want is to have IMAP/Exchange access to both my Hotmail and GMail accounts smoothly running in one app, and for some reason it's damn near impossible.
Nobody knows how to get email running properly on Android? For something that is so simple on an iPhone, Google/Samsung have really dropped the ball on one of the most basic and universal requirements of a smartphone.
Have you tried maildroid?

Try K9mail. Its free. It also does IMAP too.

i just use the stock email app. the yellow one. works fine since gingerbread
Tried Maildroid. Tried K9. Hotmail will only work as POP3, I've tried every setting possible for IMAP or Exchange and it just doesn't work. Stock eMail works with Exchange but I have to scroll to the bottom of the message through all the HTML code and click "Load More Details" on every email before I can read it. Apparently this is a new safety feature in Samsung products, possibly starting (and ending?) with ICS, I'm not entirely sure, but it stinks. My only option appears to be using separate dedicated clients for Hotmail and Gmail. The grouping is also clunky with "combined view" in the stock eMail app, requiring 3 clicks and scrolling to the bottom of each message in order to read a single Hotmail message. Insane.
Can anybody verify if the "Load More Details" issue is fixed in any or all of the JB roms? This seems to be an issue isolated to newer Samsung phones running ICS and it's hard to find any info on it.

Hmmm. I don't have to scroll.to the bottom and hit load more details on mine. Get 20 - 50 emAils a day through exchange. Have you checked your settings? There is one for a size limit that my be causing your problem.
I will check and see what it is.

Here you go.
from a galaxy far far away....
Tried that already, doesn't work. Still need to click on "load more details" for every single email. Like I said, I read somewhere that this is a new security feature and we're supposed to just deal with it. Something about how they don't want images to be autoloaded because it confirms to phishers that the email has been viewed. I'd like to know if this is also the case with custom roms, or is it just a security "feature" from Samsung? Also, exchange is not working properly, seems that even the stock email is acting as POP3. Again, this is for Hotmail, which as I understand is more complicated to configure than other services because of the limitations by Microsoft or something.
I would appreciate any input from people that have experienced this issue, especially if they found a fix. I was trying to avoid rooting my phone and flashing a custom ROM but this may just be the tipping point...
I use enhanced email. When you set up the account, enter your email address and password and select "manual setup"
On the set up screen make sure for iser name you use your email address for the server use m.hotmail.com
Just follow the rest of the setup and you will have it
It is a paid app, but ir works with no worries. I have my corporate mail, live mail and outlook.com mail set up as push and it works great.
Hope this helps
