[Q] No video output from hdmi? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using gingerblur.
I have an avi file and it plays fine, both audio and video, on Android built in movie player. But when i try to play the file from the etertainment center or the webtop, i get audio from the file to work but the video stays a black screen.
In theory the video file should work right, since it works on androids built in movie player on the atrix. I do not see why it doesnt work on the entertainment center video output?
I can play the file through the webtop mirror, but it lags a little so i annoys me.
Any help would be nice, Thanks in advance. I LOVE MY ATRIX!!

Sorry to be rude but this has been discussed several times in several threads.
You have to disable hdmi mirroring by setting ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=true to
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
This has to be modified in build.prop by using a system file editor such as root explorer.
You'll be able to see and listen to your videos then.

Hey guys!
Wheres this build.prop?
I cant find!

TV out

Hi all
Finally got round to plugging into my TV, everything works fine Music, gallery and all that but on movies all I get is sound and no picture. I read here about HDMI mirroring but didnt make much sense to me. Anyone able to give it in old man stupid speak so i can understand it..LOL
Lordao
If you have gingerblur installed you have to install the entertainment fix. If you have gingerblur with HDMI mirroring then the entertainment center wont work, If you look at the phone closely when using the entertainment center you will be able to see the video playing beneath the entertainment GUI on the bottom edge. If gingerblur is the case then go to the Gingerblur thread and there is a link to get the entertainment center working again using CWM and a simple zip install.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for that. I only have done the 2.1.1 upgrade and remained on stock. I have not installed either of the 2 roms in the development section.

what are the file types, resolution and encoding on the movie files? do they play on the atrix itself if you open them in gallery?

They are mainly MP4 files that I have ripped from my DVD collection. They work fine on the Atrix's stock player and I have some xvid avi files I play via mobo player, but both types of files only play audio when connected by HDMI.

Make sure your tv is set to auto detect format, or that it is set to 720p or 1080i.

So out of interest i went to my local Orange shop and plugged the phone into there demo lapdock.
Same thing on that as well no video but sound was fine. But on the phone itself everything plays fine.
Dont get it.

Sounds like a hardware problem, check the hdmi connector on the phone, if its all good, get that bad boy replaced if you still can!!!

[DISCUSSION] The Audio & Video Player Thread

I noticed the picture viewer will play m4v videos that I put on the device through USB, but not FLV videos. What video formats are supported?
Is there anything that will play .flv video files? Any recommendations for better video players?
Thanks
I just purchased KalemSoft Media Player from the App Catalog, the price a little high but it plays many more formats than the stock webos player. I am happy because it's playing my divx movies so it was worth the cost for me.
What formats is the stock software supposed to support?

[Q] Video: Streaming via SMB
Hello world
how can I do to watch movies on my touchpad streaming via SMB?
Are there any applications for it?
I thank you for your help
guys,
i need help to find out a good app to play .avi files on the touchpad ...
i tried installing Kalemplayer, it opens up the file and plays it but the screen is pretty messed up ..
i also did the touchplayer, but i cant seem to make it navigate to any of the file locations.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Stream Video
I would really like to have a good video player on my touchpad which could stream over my home network (samba). The best program I've seen so far is the one which comes with the Archos tablets.
What do you mean you cannot navigate using TP?
for some reason the kalem video player in preware is messed up, you can get a good copy by going to the kalemsoft website and downloading it from there, preware should install it when you try to open it.
http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/downloads2.html
it should be the link highlighted in red
Unable to install Kalem media player either. I was able to download it onto my touchpad but says 'Cannot open MIME type'.
Was one of the many that got it on sale and still pretty new to it. How do I get around this and get it on?
Try the touchplayer. It's back up on Preware.
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
When you install it, you have to make you are on 3.0.2. Also, your best bet, install Internalz Pro then install TouchPlayer, after they are installed reboot the device 2 times [for good measure]. They should install all dependencies that you will need.

I cant tell you a way to do it via SMB, but even if I could then you would need to start worrying about compatible codecs.
I would instead suggest Kalemsoft media player. It is seven bucks in the market or Free for the older version on their website.
If you download the server app, setup a DDNS account and forward the default kalem server ports you can stream your home moves to anywhere you have internet access.
If all you care about is streaming while at home, then I would use UPNP...

kalem soft works the best .. still no luck with touchplayer. thanks for the link duplissi
When you use Kalem, you're video isn't lagging at all?? I tried using Kalem and TouchPlayer. Honestly Kalem is better by far because at least it plays my video.... but otherwise, are those the only two video players out there ?

[Q] 720P

hi
i'm trying to run 720P movies on my device, and unfortunatly their not running smooth at all...
at first i had no sound, so i downloaded a codec pack. it helped and now i can hear but it's still very laggy.
I don't want to start d/ling every codec pack on the market until it'll run smooth...
anyone knows what's the proper codecs for this device?
thanks

What type of 720P video is it? Perhaps it's your SD card not reading fast enough. The Quallcomm SOC is capable of playing back 1080P videos with no issues, so I'm not sure why 720P video is choppy.
Are you playing back in Software or hardware mode? Have you tried moboplayer on it?
well
i was playing from the devices memory, not an external SD. so its not that.
i dont know what software/hardware modes are
but i tried V player and it works ok for now. thanks
720 and 1080 both record and play back beautifully for me.

Use your PC to Rip em and convert them to mp4, then copy the mp4's to your Jetstream. It's not the most straight forward thing so you may have to google whenever you get stuck.
This ought to get you started though... http://lifehacker.com/230349/rip-dvds-with-vlc

DL the MX Movie player app and then use SW decoding.
EDIT - recently installed vlc and when I select a movie it gives the option of playing with the native gallery movie player even though they don't show up when you open the gallery. Great picture and allowed for SRS AND 5.1 sound.

You can try ES file explorer and tapping on the LAN tab. Then add the server you're trying to play the files from and you can then tap on a file to play and choose to open with moboplayer.
I am using MOBO player. It's working great. Free and easy to configure.

BS player has hardware acceleration and works great on Tablet S. I think it supports SD-cards, but not sure. The .srt subtitles work great though. It also has a function that searches subs for you online. No more searching!

I use a similar setup as you. For my file manager I use HD file explorer for honeycomb and set up my network through the lan connection. Then I play the videos through MX player and music through Mobo. Some videos play better than others depending on the format but for the most part it works well. What I like about HD file manager is you can access everything from your network drive and it easy to setup. I just wish there was a way to create a play list for music files from my NAS without transferring files to my SD card. Any ideas on this?
Try CineXplayer I have had any issues also locates files for u when opening so no need to manually find files. No ads full screen no stuttering videos. Good quality picks up where you leave off in videos if stopped while viewing when opened back up.
Yes mobo player is pretty sweet, free and clean looking a must download if u wanna watch movies n things.
MX player does both (SD card, SRT titles) flawlessly. So impressed I bought the ful version.
no stop in mxplayer?

just tap the screen and there should appear reverse, pause and forward. just press pause´. There is no actual stop button.
u can change that in the settings actually I believe (i.e. always show controls). Can't imagine why its necessary, you want full screen video normally don't you?
Strange. So when I start a 3 hour video and notice after 5 mins that I have seen it...I need to look it to the end as I can not stop it. I need to try mobo....

For everyone complaining about media playback ;)

I have tried BSPlayer, MX Player and they both stutter on really high quality videos. However, I have ES File Explorer installed and it comes with its own video player built in. I decided to give it a try and ran a 1440p video of a timescape, and it ran flawlessly whereas the other two video players could hardly run it. Also, streaming files over my WiFi performed flawlessly as well, with virtually zero lag from what I could tell and it barely needed to buffer either. I think everyone should give it a shot and post their results in this thread to see if it works nicely for everyone else as well!
It also played mkv files fine, but we still need a way to decode DTS audio nicely. Is it possible to sw decode audio and hw decode the video?

Try this in all 3 of the video players and post your results!

If you just browse to the place where the file is on your nexus through es file explorer and then click on it. It should work then. I just wish there was stock decoding for dts audio, because it works for mkv files fine.

The built-in ES File Explorer media player worked really good, but so did also MX Player with H/W-decoder.
Dice-player was locked to S/W decoding and stuttered.
And standard media player played it without hesitation.

It doesn't seem to play avi files. It simply didn't offer the option to play with its built-in player. It *did* open the m4v file however.
Played without a single hiccup everything stock here.

If you hold down on the video file and then click "Open As" and then "Video" it will give you the option to play .avi files.
For me it's all the same. Every player that does hw decoding does not play *completely* smooth. Tried MX, Google, ES.

are these flashable or something?
Try this.
Extract the files from the Rar and copy them to your N10 internal storage. Then, in MX Player, Go to Settings -> Decoder, scroll all the way to the bottom, and tap Custom codec. Then, select the folder containing the codec files you copied over and tap OK. MX Player will then close, and after you restart it you should be in business.
Credit to Rootzwiki for that.
Not sure what the issue is on your end, but I ran that same 1440p Timescape video in the stock player from the Gallery and it works fine. No stutter, or lag even when skipping scenes.
I also tried MX and Dice player, no issues when them either. Stock N10 - 16GB.
