Does anyone leave this checked? If I'm not using any of the VZW apps (being on ComRom and all), what does this option actually do?
Primarily for VZ Navigator I was told. I keep it off also.

Has anyone gotten the Google Gears "My location" API to work. It keeps
coming back as unavailable.
This is on DCD 3.2.6 & Radio 3.42.50
Maps, Live and TomTom all work fine.
I've been having the same problem, default ROM w/ WM 6.1... No matter what I do it comes up as unavailable. Sprint Nav, Google Maps, GPSToday, and other GPS related apps work just fine though
I believe that it's simply a Google problem..where for some reason, our device isn't supported
if you have a gps lock, select use gps. if you move around the map to say, look ahead in your directions, then hit mylocation it will take you back to your gps point. that's all it will do for me on my titan.
Are you on Verizon? Where am I uses cell towers by default which Verizon blocks. However, as said earlier, if you get a gps lock and then choose where am I it seems to use the GPS. I have seen people on other carriers use it but never a Verizon phone of any kind.
Yea the carrier has nothing to do with my location, however, I can tell you that my location with the titan does not work, though I don't know why anyone with one would be using my location when you have gps capabilities. I had to go through a lot to get it to work on one of my buddy's shadow and it really isn't accurate enough for directions. On my other friends verizon blackjack it works a little better but not very good. If you were ridiculously lost in a good size city it could help but rural and navigation I don't think it would do you any good. Each time I didn't I had to read the blog on my location beta and there were unlockers I had to download.
So to sum up: If you have a titan unlock the gps one chip and go about your business.
Isn't the Blackjack a GSM device (not Verizon)?
Ok. I have been having issues with aGPS on verizon. I flashed till my fingers were blue, tried QPST, valhalla on mr1 and mr2, and nothing works for me.
I called and had them replace my phone under warranty (they couldnt figure out why the data wasnt working heh) so I have a refurbd handset with mr2 straight from verizon. What should I try? Valhalla with the Telus settings ab or Valhalla with verizon settings cab?
Wow are you serious. Did you try searching? Read the last ten pages in the below link.

I've been having the same trouble. I've tried MR1, MR2, valhalla, SUPL AGPS, etc. I've tried a dozen combinations of server IPs, server modes, etc. To sum it up, I've tried everything listed here and in ppcgeeks forums and nothing has worked. I'm in southern NY on Verizon Wireless.
Anyone have any luck who can help me out? I'm currently using MR2, but a new phone (under warranty) is on the way and I'm not sure what it'll have..

I think that MR1 sux, like all other stock software.
Follow these instrux here to get custom on your phone.
OK. Get this. I did a fresh flash to MR2 per verizon from the pdc site.
Then I only installed valhalla GPSserver. Nothing worked. No locks at all.
BUT, I signed up for verizons VZNav service and downloaded their installer. I am not getting locks within about 5 seconds. It has NEVER been this fast.

Are you surprised? Of course it works for them, they are the ones making it hard to lock. The phone should work automatically without hacks.
Well I meant that after I installed VZNav, I am able to get instant locks regardless of what program I use... Mobile XT, Mobile Maps, live search, GPSToday. They are all locking instantly after I signed up for VZNav.
I have also noticed that I have to "prime" the gps using vznav in order for the other programs to get a lock. Once its primed they will lock instantly. IF the phone goes into standby, they will not lock at all until I prime with vznav....then its back to instant locks

Sorry if I seemed short, it wasn't directed towards you. When you installed VZnav you installed drivers and settings that unlock your aGPS, I guess they figure that you can have unlocked GPS if you are paying them...greedy bastards, they really only want you to use their software, but I guess they think why lock it down any more than is necessary to get you working with their software. If you were to uninstall VZnav, all those quick locks would go away in short time (unless you use Telus, etc).
I have searched all 4 forums using "standalone" "google gps" and "VZW gps" and get no results..
I am trying to understand which ones of these i should have checked when I am using the maps and/or navigation.. what is the difference? do i need all 3 checked?
i have tried a few combinations and aside from lock time, and minimal accuracy, they seem pretty much the same, except i cannot seem to get a lock from standalone by itself..
i also worry about how much juice all three of those services will suck from the phone.. in the search for the answer to my question, i did run across a thread that had several well known members here confirming that you can leave gps on and it wont drain battery unless you have an app running that needs it..
whenever I'm navigating i usually have all 4 checked but from that i know all you should really need is the standalone and Verizon..
googles mostly for searches and such like restaurants around you and what not but don't hold me to it!

I would suggest a Google search if you want detailed info, but in short:
VZW = location based on cell towers (I believe this is only used by the Verizon Navigator software, but don't hold me to that)
GPS = location based on GPS satellites
Google = location based on mapped WiFi hot spots
I always have all three location services checked when using anything involving GPS and I have always gotten great results. Especially since I am using SC 2.9.2, and Adrynalyne added the Verizon location framework back into SC with 2.9.
Just updated to ed04 via ota. Then got root, reinstalled all apps that I backedup with titanium backup.
I was getting a bunch of forced closes and found out it was google search(probably because I still have bing and bbloat now) so I got rid of google search.
The main reason I wanted to get up to date is because on di01 I couldn't get gps to work at all.
It used to work and then all of a sudden it would never work. With all applications it just says can't find location.
What should I do?
If you are trying to toggle gps from the pulldown menu, you must have vzw or google location services ticked in settings. So the only way for the pull down toggle to work is to have one of those services selected in settings. It seems to have something to do with accepting the disclaimer in at least one of the services for the toggle to actually work. But if you don't want to use the location services you can only turn gps on from settings menu and not the pull down.
good day.
Chopperthedog knows his stuff so I would try what he said first but I've always had a problem getting gps to work on multiple different roms and the only way I got it to work was with gps aids from the market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Just wondering if i need download manager (android.process.media)?
Tethering (have never once used my phones data as a wifi or whatever that does),
Network location within play services? (is this for my phones provider? or some GPS related thing? Ill never pay for the data to use my phone as GPS)
com.samsung.app.playreadyui??
trying to fix a battery drain issue ive been having, only sometimes. wondering if theres anything else safe to stop from running.
i did just greenify the market feedback.
i dont know why google play stuff wants to run all the time with only connection to my provider (but with data disabled)... seems like a waste of time/battery?? it makes sense that when i pop wifi on they start up. but all the time??
Ive greenified almost all user apps already, and some system ones i know are safe (like calculator, camera, etc)
any additional advice would be great!
