I'm getting double text messages every time I receive a message. One in messages I can clear, the other one shows up in the notification bar but if I click on it nothing happens. Can anyone help me on this?
are you using handcent messaging app? i got this as well when i was using a third party messaging app. You have to turn the notifications in one of them off.
also this is a Q&A so when it gets transfered i will continue to monitor your question until i helped you solve it or provided as much help as i can.
No, just the stock Messaging app.

Disable notifications on the stock messaging app or freeze it. Problem solved.
Will I still get normal message notifications?
You won't get double notifications if you're just using the stock messaging app. You only get double notifications if you have GoSMS, Handcent, etc... without disabling notifications from the stock messaging app.
I am only using stock, I have never installed any other. AS far as disabling stock messagin notifications, I'm still getting a second notification and it will not go away when I open messages.
so are you rooted? what have you done so far with your phone?
did you format system partiton in clockwork recovery and wipe data and cache??
Rooted, installed bamf 1.6.3, overclocked. I originally installed 1.6.3, then a few other roms, always wiping data, cache, dalvik but then had parts of roms on top of each other so I did a fresh install of 1.6.3 to clean things up and wiped everything and now have double message issues.
I didn't format the system partition, I will try that
Tis whacked! Did you wipe/clear data before installing Das BAMF? Its almost as if you did a restore of an old messaging.apk or something, who knows. I'll let the experts take over as I'm at my wits end, especially if you say you have no 3rd party app. Maybe some notification app? :/
Have you tried rebooting? Try clearing the cache for the messaging application --- Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications --> All Tab --> Messages ---> Clear Data/Clear Cache and then Force Stop. (Obviously will lose all SMS/MMS stored this way).
I'm re wiping everything to see what happens this time.
Re wiping everything again fixed it, thanks all
ok, i am not sure how exactly to fix your problem without another wipe but i bet if you wiped your phone and sd card multiple times and make a fresh install of everything it would stop the problems. I would wait for a few more answers and then maybe popping into the bamf tweaks thread in the themes and apps forum to see if anyone knows about the problem.
It does sound like you have a few extra pieces overlaping again, i would really consider the nuking of your phone to set it back up correctly
dont have to wipe everything
i had same problem when i tried to freeze the stock messaging app. all you have to do is go to settings, applications, manage, all, then choose the messaging app and clear data, and cache. works perfect for me since then
Some one had the same prob few weeks ago and it was an app. Maybe beautiful widgets

I would backup sms/mms's. Then go into:
Settings->Manage Applications->Running->Messages and clear Data and Clear Cache. Then restore your mesages.

hey guys, i've been using CM7 for a few weeks now and decided to jump over to OMGFB
one issue i've been having both on CM7 and now on OMGFB is that I can receive MMS but i cannot send them, it just shows that its trying to send but never goes through, no error message just never completes.
any ideas?
tried a fresh wipe and install, JT, glitch kernels but no dice, appreciate any help
What modem are you running? ec09 should work the best with either of those.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
running EC09, i don't think its a modem problem, as I can receive MMS, make calls, send SMS and do everything else, i just can't send MMS
and I was running CM7 7-17, not any nightlies
I'm on CM7. I use GO SMS for the look and feel...always have. And I have no problem with mms.
Maybe try out GO SMS...just for testing.

i've tried handcent and GO, here is the solution i found it on the CM7 boards
Use root explorer, and make sure it is set to R/W mode (read/write). Navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db and delete that file, then restart your phone. After the restart, you should be able to send and receive MMS messages.
immediately worked, not sure what this file is or what it does but it seems to be the issue

The messaging db is frequently corrupted when killing the messaging app with a task killer. You can also clear the messaging app's data from manage applications to fix this type of problem.

I've had this same problem before on both stock and CM7 nightly's.. to this day I don't know what caused it, and I don't know how to fix it; besides a factory reset. I did try clearing the data this way and it didn't work. If it happens again I'm going to try the root explorer method. Actually I cleared the data on every app that had anything to do with SMS/MMS, or had a permission dealing with SMS/MMS.

i don't use a task killer so i'm not sure if that was it, but i will give that a try if it happens again
for now the root explorer method of deleting that file has fixed everything
Hi all, recently, i have encountered lagging/freezing while typing or sending a text, for example i were to compose a message, i can type it without lag, but when i clicked send, it freezes awhile and the message takes awhile to show up being sent, after that when i proceed to send another message right after sending, i experience lag while typing the texts, it freezes for awhile but i continue to type and it come back with all the letters coming in quickly. I have tried different message apps like Handcent, Go sms and the default app.
I am using Checkrom v4 and siyah 2.5.1 kernal by the way, has it got to do with them? I experienced this problem a little before flashing custom roms but after that the problem became more significant. I tried wiping and reflashing again its still the same.
While other usages on the phone i do not experience any lag, only applies to texting.
Help would be appreciated ! Thanks.
Has nothing to do with kernel nor rom. Check your background process, something is using your cpu a lot. Also try clearing the data and cache for messaging.

I checked and there are no running programs, i do have a lot of messages, how do i clear the cache? Means clearings all the messages? I would like to preserve the messages but without causing lag? Is there anyway to do so ? Others than backing up with apps. Thanks.

my way of removing the lag on messaging is to turn on force GPU rendering(settings>developer option then tick force GPU rendering for app) that's it you will not feel any lag on your text messaging anymore. hope that helps.

If you go to Settings - Applications
Choose All
Then scroll to messaging
It will tell you there how big your cache and data is for this app.
I believe if you clear data you will lose all your messages but not if you wipe the cache. It is advisable that a lot of messages will lag your message app as it needs to load everything

I flashed from stock to bionix v4, followed all the steps with no issues. Everything worked great. I had to do the these two fix steps a few times recently. wifi fix http://androidforums.com/droid-supp...ifi-error-message-wifi-will-not-turn-all.html and large file download fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30669800&postcount=1127. This is when I noticed my issue. However, i can still makes calls. It is when I hang up that I get the error but I can still get back into it, just after force closing. please help.
I'm trying to figure out options before wiping and reflashing.
You can try to go to manage apps and clear data from phone app. Then reboot.

I cant even see it in the list. wtf. The only thing I can think of that's close is "phone" version 1.0 but there's no data for me to press clear.
I also see dialer and dialer storage actually have data to clear.
When you go to manage apps, all, there isn't phone?

There is "phone" but there's no data to clear. size is = 0kb.
Guess its wiping time, try just cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions. If you still have issue a full wipe might be in order.

Well, I did a full wipe and reflashed. Phone is working now but something I didn't notice before. I cannot get contacts pictures to sync with facebook and when I try, it says I need to log-on to social media and redirects me to allow me to choose between facebook, twitter, etc to sync. When I click on facebook, it force closes just like with the phone app. What's going on?
Did you use an app to backup apps and app data(titanium backup etc)?
Go to manage apps>all> Facebook and clear data. See if that fixes your issue.
I apologize for not being able to give more exact issues. I haven't used that ROM and its been a long time since I used froyo all together.
I approve this message.
I have looked at all the other threads and they didn't help me, my problem is that the stock messaging app crashes every time i start it, meaning, i cant do anything with messages. It started today when last night it was working. Im running stock rom, kernel, everything is unchanged, unrooted and using Nova launcher. The only thing i did today was Install BBS and disabled some useless Samsung apps like Joyn and such, but nothing mayor.
i tried clearing the data and force closing it, restarting, taking battery out, when i place the widget for messaging the app itself crashes, the widget stays and i see my threads, but when i open them, it crashes again...so honestly, i have no idea whats going on.
Thank you!!
!!EDIT: The messaging app doesnt crash anymore (no idea why it stopped crashing) but! I cannot send messages, it tells me always "message failed" also with other apps like GoSMS and HandSent, I cannot send messages. I tried going to /system/app and trying to install again the stock apks, but nothing, It tells me that Application Installation failed Rooted my phone just now, and still doesnt help.

what version of android are you using ? if it is based on samsung 4.2.1 leaked rom, you need to wipe data from CWM to use messaging app :good:
What happens if you go to call logs and swipe from right to left to send a message and then press the back button (should take you to the messages window)?

Im running 4.1.2. Aparently the messaging app works again now, I installed GoSMS and made it default. then i went back to the messaging app and it opens, but if i send a message it says "message failed" i retry, and then it crashes. However, with GoSMS, i sent an SMS to myself, and it seems to work.

I tried to doing that, I get to the message screen, but when replying it doesnt send the message, and crashes when I press "retry" however, with GoSMS it seems to work. Will ask other people today to send me an SMS and see, but an SMS to myself works with GoSMS but not with stock messaging
PS: THank you both for your replies.

believe it or not, somehow it works again...just on its own. I found on another forum and doing a Delvick cache clean up with Titanium backup would work! if anyone has a problem like this, that can be suggested. Other than that..I honestly dont know what just happened.
Thank you all for the help! I hope it doesnt come back again
wonder if anyone has found a solution? with Handcent, pictures will not display using Handcent.
Phone always reverts to stock browser. I mainly want Quickpic because of the Full brightness option.
I had no issue with quickpic on g4, in fact running it now, it did f/c the first time, I restored just data from a TiBU backup I had.
Worked ever since. As far handcent, haven't used it in awhile, have you tried clearing the cache within the app, in applications area?

Yes, Quickpic works fine as a stand alone. I want it to open when I view pics in Handcent.
It gives me the choice and I select it but, it defaults to the stock Gallery.
Not if you go to the application area in settings, go to handcent app and clear cache only, go back into handcent open a pic, at that point it should ask what to open with, set the new default.

You would probably need to install Handcent to be 100% but, it just does not take the
"Always" setting. It appears to be going to HC and goes to the Full 100% brightness
but, opens in Gallery.
