You can't do anything
The kernel doesn't have netfilter so you can't use iptables.
Me too I would like to use it...

"Permissions denied" app from stericson. If you are familiar with Linux use terminal emulator to disable certain services in the app.
XDA ♥

It has been stated so many times now. The kernel in the x10 mini/ mini pro is compiled without netfilter support. As such, it is impossible to use iptables without a custom kernel.
p.s. Just wondering, why DID they leave iptables out? It's pretty much included in every flavour of linux i've ever used...

As you well know SE rapes us in use bummer each chance they get. Give us good enough hardware and tease us with lousy software. Like the multitouch-capable digitizer.

You wouldn't really need a new kernel. You could probably make it work my using Modules.

Just as dualtouch and overclocking. but there's little demand and use for it, so might not be worth the time and effort.
People use it for warez anyways so it might even be discouraged.

Modules? I thought netfilter hooks must be compiled into the kernel?

i'm interested in this iptables problem thing too...

Why are all the custom Vibrant kernels using 2.6.32.9

I've spent a good amount of time searching and couldn't find an answer.
I follow Vibrant development for a friend and I've always wondered why the custom kernels always seem to use an older version of the linux kernel (2.6.32.9).
For N1's our custom kernels always got updated when a new version of the linux kernel comes out. Right now I'm at 2.6.37.2.
I thought it might be a source code thing but then that got released. Then I noticed in the Vibrant CM7 thead they run 2.6.35.7.

Why don't these linux kernel updates make it into the custom kernels? There are lots of improvements. Or am I just wrong?
We have the source for that version. I believe implementing a kernel from scratch for our phones will be damn near impossible.

It uses the new kernel when you flash a new one or a rom with a new kernel but the numbers don't change. Don't know why though.

Do you happen to know what stops the kernel from being re-based on a newer version?

From what I can tell all the custom kernels run on 2.6.32.9 with the exception of the CM7 builds. There are never mentions updating the linux kernel. I can't tell from the file names or updates if it's happening.
Maybe I was told wrong. I asked a similar question a few months back and that's how it was explained to me.

I don't think you were told wrong just maybe asked a different question. After spending too much time looking it 2.3 is based on the 2.6.35.7 kernel so that explains why it's on the 2.3 builds.
I think it's more of a problem building the kernel from scratch. I'm guess they start with the source they have which is a 2.6.32.9 base and make changes.

Noob Question?

I know I should search this stuff but once I get some help with this I will ask to delete this thread. I just rooted my phone for the first time and I am looking for the best aosp rom or anything like aosp that has everything working. And do you loose the functionality of the 3d camera once we change roms? Also How to i back up everything so I dont loose all my apps and stuff. I appreciate any help that someone gives me. Now off the the development forum to try ti find a rom and figutr out how to even flash it.

Thank you. I have a quick question that maybe you could help me with. Do you have to change kernels for different roms or does the stock one work on all?

No problem. And that all depends on the dev, they might include a custom kernel (so you can OC) but some may include the stock one and suggest a kernel for you to flash. I would suggest using a kernel other than stock if you wanna OC (although I'm not sure if you can use perflock disabler..can anyone confirm/deny?)
Edit: I'm not rooted yet, haven't had the time. But I might make the jump in a day or two. Kinda missing that aosp goodness!

All the ROMs (so far) are based off the original EVO 3d rom, the only difference is some have tweaks and/or HTC Widgets and apps like peep and friend stream taken out. If a ROM isn't fully functional it will say so in the first post. If you wipe yes you will loose all your apps but apps like MyBackup or Titanium Backup can restore them as they were in minutes. If you going to be flashing ROMs, one of those programs is really good to have.

tun.ko in Prime ICS OTA ROM?

I don't yet have a Prime, but was wondering if the stock ICS ROM includes the tun.ko kernel module by default. I would like to know as I am getting ready to cross compile tun and cifs for the latest tf101 rom and would like to provide those if needed to the Prime ICS community as well. You can check by using a terminal to list the contents of the following dir:
ls /system/lib/modules
I'll be home in 5 mins and will check

Oh one more thing actually. Can you also run lsmod? Thank you for your help!

you should have searched first, there's a big thread about this already and someone already compiled it.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438967
warmRLS1+Anthrax
I understand there is another thread where someone takes an old module and retros it in. I was just asking because I was trying to do something nice and compile a version actually based on the proper kernel rev, even though I don't have a Prime. I wanted to make absolutely sure they didn't slip it in on the latest ICS release.
It was also added to tun.ko installer DB so for ultimate easyness just install the app from marketplace.

sklid also compiled cifs.ko: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442928
If you want to compile a new pair, there's nothing wrong with that.

I asked him before for Infinity kernel, and he said he hasn´t too much time right now.. Everyone is concentrated on CM10.1 right now, so we should wait for it Only thing to fix right now on 10.1 is camera, everything except that is working
@//.dax So just WAIT

there was this app in playstore for switching fastcharge modes.. tell me if it works or not..
As far as the ts mods are concerned.. I tried implementing them but the pocket mode was giving errors.. never bothered to fix em (lazy me)

My GPU isn't working properly (some chinese MT6572 marketed as G+ K3)

Hello, the main problem is that any app using advanced graphics is crashing on me, so I decided to make a test and downloaded OpenGL ES 2.0 Demo to try.
And the result that I get was unbelievable, there's a gallery of my screenshots.

As for my phone, I already had a long story with it, there's the thread, where you can get all the info on the other site, but I'm not able to post links yet, but if you Google " Screwed up my G+ K3" you can find it.
If anyone can help me to get the GPU to work properly, I would be superthankful, I am already starting to lose my mind.
Seems like your GPU is damaged.

Can this be a result of bad drivers or something? I don't really know much about drivers on Android, if there are even some. There's a firmware for another GPU installed, so it might be the cause, but I got no idea how to fix it.

Very VERY likely if it was anything along those lines it would not be general user serviceable by any means.

Well, if I'm getting it right, there's actually nothing to do it that just by my hands then. Since the firmware thinks, that there's another CPU and GPU installed, would flashing to the other firmware (some MT6572 one) work? I had a bad time when trying to port another firmware to it, it didn't boot or I just wasn't able to flash it - was getting errors.
