[Q] Rooting - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SO having just gotten my thunderbolt this weekend I had a question about it.. is it worth it to root it being so new out or not? and if so, what's the best way for the thunderbolt,.. universal androot? like a higher end version or somthing else?

Yes it is totally worth rooting. For rooting it go to the dev section as it requires a pretty extensive root process. Compared to most phones that is.

ahh so the generic Universal Androot isn't enough eh?

First realize that rooting has its pitfalls. If you are cool with that search the forums, jcase has some very good step by step root processes posted. Root will open your phone so you can set it up the way you want to by allowing crapware removal and applying themes, etc.

Do it before you get a bunch of data on your phone that you're afraid to give up. Rooting requires you to downgrade which wipes all your data. So, you're going to lose everything (those precious Angry Birds saves) when you go to root since you can't do a proper (Titanium) backup yet.

Definitly root right away! i waited a while and it was kind of a pain to get all my data back. the easiest way the i found was the three click method listed here---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292. follow the directions to the letter and it works fine dont do the ota update, it can make rooting annoying and there are better roms out there that incorporate it anyways

Help from UK users

Trying to install beebplyer but can't find it on the market, previously installed & uninstalled it, so not sure why I can't find it anymore. Can anyone please check if it's just me or whether it's now off the market? Thanks.
I read somewhere that its been pulled for the time being.
Something about a 'proper' version coming out soon.
You best bet would be to try to find the APK from somewhere else online...
damn, was looking forward to having it for the world cup.
why would they pull it before a proper one is here? just sounds like aunt beeb wasn't best pleased with it

You can still download it using the barcode scanner. I just installed it, and the quality from the video is quite poor.
I'm not surprised it got discontinued. Worth using as a last RESORT
thanks, installing now! it is a last resort...
not sure if this is any good mate as I aint tried it yet:
http://www.skynetsoftware.com/myPlayer/index.aspx?platform=Android
PS - England are currently sucking bigtime in teh world cup
thanks, hopefully I'll still need it after the group stage!
try yamgo.mobi, its way more reliable than apps.
Yes beebplayer has been pulled from the market, although there is another app called myplayer, as zoomee has already stated.
That said, I don't think those apps are as good as just going to m.tvcatchup.com
You can watch a lot of freeview channels. It requires registration, but that's free, and just a 1 time thing. Try that out.

or will this work?
Nah old fashioned root method is safer and guaranteed to work... i wouldn't try that way. An old man in ancient times (1990's) once said "That which is on youtube is not always true" and it remains true to this day
Search google or xda forums, they are specifically for the atrix. I unlocked and rooted my atrix by sbf flashing into a controlled softbrick, entering fastboot to unlock and then reboot. Ding fries are done! Make sure you read the instructions all the way through before attempting any install.

I find the root method on BriefMobile to be most effective. A little more work vs one click but you learn something doing the old fashion way.

I can confirm that this one-click method does in fact work on Motorola Atrix running OTA 4.9.1 GB. Here is a direct link to the TalkAndroid article.
If you'd prefer to run the commands individually, feel free to open the batch file and run each one.

[Q] Restore the original ROM for my Atrix.

Howdy,
I'm Canadian. I use a Bell Canada as my service provider. I have a Motorola Atrix 4G phone. I would like to restore the ROM back to the original BELL ROM that shipped with the phone. The reason for this is I can no longer receive updates from Bell to my phone. Each time the download/install will fail and then re-download itself. Destroys my data plan to say the least.
I original rooted and uninstalled some of the bloat app's that came with the phone (UNO, some racing game demo etc) without really knowing the difference between freezing and uninstalling. Admittedly this is my first Smart Phone. And I believe this is the cause of my problems.
So, if someone could tell me in layman's terms how to go about doing this that would be great. I've read and looked through a bunch of the other threads. But most of them have really bad documentation to go with what they give here. (e.g. Here's the boot loader go nuts)
I would much appreciate if someone could link or give me a step by step to do this or a point me in the right direction that would be great. I would also be willing to pay if you manage to get it going(PayPal).
I'd send it back to Bell but since this were played with I'm pretty sure the warranty is voided.
I understand that I need to root > unlock > unlock boot loader > flash ROM > reboot. But not sure how to go about that really.
Thanks in advance,
redudn
So your bootloader is locked or unlocked?
If its locked just download the Motorola update tool and update your phone that way.
(That's how I updated to GB from froyo)
The ota kept giving me that android with the exclamation mark. I was rooted with gingerbreak good luck.

Help rooting 5.0.1

Iv tried to root my my sprint lg g3 running stock 5.0. 1 many times. Using the one click root v1.2 v1.3. They both never root. Each time I have to manually put the phone in download mode. Then the script says found phone. Rooting. And stays there. Is there another method? Any YouTube videos? Iv searched and seems to be the 5.0.1 version is patched to the one click method? Thank you

This is what I'm getting. It will stay on rooting phone. When when I finally unplug it, it will state the rest. It never roots.

Seems like the latest version is 1.3. You may have to wait for newer version or downgrade back to zv4 to use Stump root.
sent from my LG G3
Yeah 1.3 still didn't work. Anyone else having issues with this?
Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
Hi guys, I also am having issues rooting 5.0.1 LGL990 I have tried every method for the LG G3 besides Stump root. Every method will get me to 90% or I can get to the Download software screen and then nothing happens. It is very frustrating
EDIT: Hey guys, I found the fix! I just did some searching in the forums and this is the fix for ZVA Lgg3!

rooted phone for pokemon go

It's been many years since Ive rooted a phone. I was contemplating buying a phone that could be rooted and I wanted to use it on pokemon go. After seeing some of the crack downs lately by Niantic I'm wondering if its even worth it? Is it becoming too difficult to play pokemon go with a rooted phone?

Actually Niantic - the game's developer - detects any efforts you made to mod device's Android OS / root device's Android: they silently scan your device's internal storage while looking for very particular file names - for example su - or extensions & folders. Thus they now even among other changes detect Magisk and block Pokémon GO accordingly, you'll get

screen shown regardless Android in deed got rooted or not. You can't pass this with phone's Magisk Hide feature.
Also an installation of TWRP gets detected and Pokémon GO will be blocked.
