I would like to replace some of the .png`s inside framework-res.apk. Can i open it in winrar and just drag the modified files over? Can`t seem to find a decent answer
No.
using win rar or win zip would be very risky...
u have to use android sdk for dis....
and if u r changing .png files from the root system u have to make .apk file and then install it which will install ur new modifications....
but dis methord is also creepy.....
Do u want to make a theme or just want to make some modifications.??????
Hit the thanx button if dis helps u...
I want to modify a flashable theme for a modded ROM.
Just drag and drop the modified files. Don't forget to re-sign the apk and the zip.
yeah he's right...
u would need apk manager for dis....
just change the old files with ur modified one and ur good to go....
but i should warn u to make a nand before u do anything bcoz if somthing goes wrong u'll get a boot loop...
and at that time nand will me ur biggest resue......
hope is helps ya...

Sorry for noob question..
what's the best way to edit a build prob in a rom before you install it? plus would the zip then need to be resigned in anyway before you could install it?
any help much appreciated, cheers
open zip, copy the file, open with wordpad, edit, paste into zip
thanks. does that then need to be signed to load properly without sending into bootloop?
u only need a rooted phone and a file manager with root(superuser) accesss. edit the file as a normal text file. be careful while u do it though. u can brick ur device if u arent!

Just copy the new fonts to the /system/fonts/ folder and replace the old.
If your talking about a ROM zip file then just open the zip with 7zip or something like that and drag and drop the new fonts to the above mentioned folder

this drag and open doesnt work , cauz when i install the rom it will stop in google logo , i tried with two different ROM.
thanks
If dragging and dropping doesn't work, what you'll need to do is unpackage each archive folder until it's a regular folder, then try dragging and dropping then repackage them. Make sure that you use the same archive folders so that it'll be readible by android.
*If this doesn't solve the problem, your problem might lie elsewhere. Try a different kernal, a different radio, a different module and keep trying until it loads ok. Good luck
its mean i have to extract each folder ??
thanks.
The uot (onlinekitchen) would be the easiest method. Just go to fonts, select one of the many choices., upload framework file for the rom you're using and flash via cwm. Very simple.

I have a archos 32 rooted with SDE and the boot menu OF BUBU and i made a theme for my archos @ the UOT kitchen, and it downloads as a zip file, how do i install it?
thanks.
hmm dunno if anyone can help u here 32 is not a gen8 device is it?
the 32 is a gen8 device as far as i know, and i might know how to install the theme, but i didnt test this on my a101 as i dont want to change my theme and it might brake ur device, but i did this on my htc touch pro 2, as im using a android port i dont have any recovery menu, but thats what i do after i make my theme: open the UOT-***.zip file and there should be a folder named framework, in it its a apk named framework-res.apk, copy it on ur archos, and if u want to also change the boot animation (im not sure this works on an archos) copy the sanim.zip file from a folder, it isnt the same folder on all devices so i dont know where it is, but after that rename it to bootanimation.zip and put it on your archos, and now use root explorer to copy-paste bootanimation.zip to its place (first copy the bootanimation one if u want to change the boot animation, not the framewors-res.apk) and replace the old bootanimation.zip and now copy framework-res.apk to /system/framework and replace, you will get some force closes, and your device will reboot/hot reboot, again im not sure of any of this things so try at your own risk and i hope it was helpfull.
Hi all...i used this site [http://uot.dakra.lt] to make my own rom. When i
finished all,i put the zip file into my SD and with CWM5 i select "install zip from
SD card"...all works correctly....but,when i reboot the phone, this one dont start
and froze on bootanimation and i must re-install the rom to use it.I thought tht
maybe my phone is not compatible with the update but im not convinced...plis

You're not using the framework-res.apk from your current firmware , right ?

Hi guys
as the title says, how can I change the background (often blue one) when you view the settings, contacts, etc?
I know it's something about the framework-res.apk, res/drawable-hdpi/semc_bg.png. But I think there's more to edit.
I've got the image to change, my problem right now is what respective files to change in the framework-res. and also how to install it to the phone
Can someone help me? a nice step-by-step process will help me alot, especially for a big noob like me
Thanks a lot, in advance
Replace the semcbg.png file in the semcgenericUxpres.apk
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
Thanks dude ^^ You sure it's this one? none at framework-res? how to edit it , and bring it back to the phone?
there has 2 option to do this..
1-use PC/laptop (winrar/7zip,,,and the new image)
2-use your phone (root explorer,,and the image)
with pc/laptop edit the ***.zip (rom) file
just replace all of semcbg.png every where I mean on framework-res.apk
and other framework (i'm not sure which rom and/or sometime other rom has extra framework-res.apk) (that why u i told u to replace all of this thing)
and for the update also
(maybe u use it...like 'screenshoot.zip' it containing it own framework)
goodluck buddy!
semc_bg.png is located in two files, framework-res.apk and SemcGenericUxpRes.apk. Location for that two files is system/framework. In each of that two files u have two semc_bg.png backgrounds, for normal and for landscape mode. Location of that backgrounds in each of previous .apk files is res/drawable-hdpi and res/drawable-land-hdpi. U can edit apk files with 7zip on ur PC.
Enjoy!
Thanks guys!
for example, I finished all the editing stuffs
How will I put it back to the phone? since it is an .apk, will I install that thru package installer? or what? just put the new edited framework-res.apk/semcgenericuxpres.apk in the phone, and reboot and the effects will take place?
You will need to use Root Explorer. Follow these steps:
Make a backup of the original APKs frst!
Copy the edited APKs from your SDCARD to your /system folder. (Yes, the "/System" folder)
Use Root Explorer to set the permissions to RW-R--R--
Once the permissions are set, CUT the files and paste in "/system/framework"
It will ask if you want to overwrite, go ahead and overwrite the files.
Reboot.
Or find empty flashable zip file, put framework files in it and flash via xrecovery.
