is it possible to reinstall the latest firmware with kies?
I update twice as it advised me to do but since then i seem to be getting problems. phone is heating up badly and whenever it has been turned off and i switch it back on i get an error message saying 'com.android could not be started etc and then it asks me to force close the app.
I want to re run the latest firmware but dont know how to.
ps. i have tried a master reset already and still has the same problem.

Don't use Kies, use Odin, it's far less temperamental. Just download th XWKE2 firmware from samfirmware.com and flash in the PDA section of Odin

Wow, that's a hell of a long time, leave it to download overnight? Mine took a while but only because it's a big file and it certainly didn't take a day! I'm sorry I don't know anywhere else to get stock firmware from apart from Samfirmware.com and the god awful Kies...
Its not posted on here by any chance using a different upload service .

I have installed an unsecure kernel in my galaxy s2 (GT I9100G) but since I cannot find the original stock kernel, I wanted to roll back to the stock android version that came with s2 and thus wanted to know how could I re-install the firmware from KIES.
Thanks

You need to reflash stock using ODIN before you can use kies, as Kies doesn't recognise custom kernels.

Will reflashing bring back the stock kernel and make the phone unrooted in short make it the way Samsung sold it to me?
Also, I am using Galaxy S2 I9100G build number GINGERBREAD.XWKJ2 and for it only 1 unsecured kernel was available at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327509
I rooted my phone without any problem but since there's no way to get back the stock kernel, I am afraid that if need be, how am I gonna claim warranty for my device.

Yes aslong as you flash the firmware that came with it t will be like as samsung sold it. Have a look at intratech's thread he may just have the kernel if you still have the original firmware on it already.

Yes, I do have the original firmware on it. Didn't have enough guts to play with custom ROM :/
I did check intratech's thread and found stock kernel for XWKJ2 but the thread titles says "Official i9100 Firmwares" whereas my phone shows i9100G. I guess this won't work.
And, when flashing to original firmware, will the kernel's be replaced to the original one's as well?
Thanks for suck quick replies Am just a n00b diving into Android
You can extract the original kernel yourself if you want it http://www.hotfile.com/dl/136857418/c144909/I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_INU.zip.html

Thanks for your help
BTW, is there a way to get the latest available firmware in my country/region via KIES so that I can be 100% sure of being in right place
i cant post the link right now but you can google

Hi,
Kies doesn't know what firmware my phone, how can I solve this problem without having to root the phone or change roms?
Thanks
Rooting is not required to change ROMs.
The most important thing is, what ROM have you on your phone?
If you have a ROM that is not a standard ROM (stock or branded) then Kies will not recognise it.
Its a stock rom.
Something got messed up with the last update, and since then kies won't recgonize the firmware..
What should I do then?
By the way, the new update is 2.3.4?
thanks
If something got messed up, then reflash the ROM you can use Odin and use the stock ROM in the ROM Developers section.
maybe an older version of Kies might help..try searching the forum cause yesterday the same topic as your asking came up and few suggested rolling back the Kies version...new one is having problems i heard
dont know if this help you but worth a try

if your talking about apps and stuff i cant remember to be honest cause i rarely use odin but i think it does a complete wipe so i say yes you will lose data..
but as the guy above said try reflashing a stock rom and once your back up and running we can take the next step...
word of advice...2.3.5 officially has not been released in the UK..if i did not root i would be only updated to 2.3.4 the last few weeks...i do all my updating through custom roms or even by Intratech thread were he has all the latest releases..Kies for me is a no goes anymore....
so do your reading and if you ever need any hand send me a message and if i can help i will

You welcome.
i remember when i tried to change kernels from CF-root thread i could not get kies to recognize it...so tried to find the one that matched the closest and region i am and bam it worked..updated my firmware through kies and that was the end of it...but if you use a kernel to root and try and to update it through kies you lose your root...so my advice find a kernel that matches your firmware then by all means go ahead root and try flashing roms...you can always go back on stock if you want...
but do your reading and like i said you want a hand if i can i will help you
Why kies doesnt recognize my firmware
Yesterday i flashed my SGSII with I9100XWKI8 2.3.5 firmware, before that i had I9100XXKH3 2.3.4. Both Firmwares are European i believe. In both cases my Kies do not recognize it.
i installed the stock firmware no root at all
Is it because i live in South America?

P.s. Is there a way to fix it?
Hi, I'm new here, so sorry for my question.
I just update my firmware with kies the root disappeared. I've got my phone rooted from the stock. Now I want to update to 2.3.5 and I need to root again, but I can't find the insecure kernel I9100BVKH1 to root. Can someone help me what to do so I can root my phone? And if I update to 2.3.5 (now I have 2.3.3) kies won't recognize the new firmware? Thanks!
Hello, just to preface this- im not very technical, but i can follow instructions well.
Anyway, You guys were great to help me two months ago in rooting my phone. I ended up doing it through Odin and all went great. Got all the **** off my phone which was the main aim. I didn't put any custom roms on there as im a bit useless when it comes to this stuff and i felt i'd be pushing my luck after the rooting went so well.
Yesterday i used Kies and it asked me to upgrade the firmware as there was a new version available.
1. What should i do? Will upgrading through Kies reverse the rooting procedure or break my phone?
2. Should i get the newer update from this site? If so- is there any tutorial for updating the firmware after already rooting the phone through odin (chainfires method i think it was?
Thank you in advance for any advice all.
My phone details are ;
ANdroid 2.3.3
Baseband version I9100XXKE7
Kernel version; 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555
[email protected] #2
Build number; GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
I have used kies to update firm ware after rooting and it did not UN root my phone so you should be fine. It did however install more useless apps that I had to remove.

i would update via kies then go to chainfires post and pick root and cwm to match your new firmwares kernel .
That way you wont have to learn how to flash stock firmwares etc .,

What JJ said is to flash via Kies and then flash the CF-Root kernel from Chainfire to get root and CWM in the phone.
Hi Azeurius,
the thing is that i already have root and cwm on the phone. Ive already rooted.
So im at the point where i can upgrade the firmware through kies, but im looking for advice what i should do overall- nearing in mind the fact ive already rooted, and phone details are in Openingpost.
THanks!
Ok well I am also new here but from everything I have read my understanding is that you have rooted your device and loaded the original Kernel for your current firmware. If you upgrade through Kies then you will obviously have an upgraded firmware with the old kernel (from your 1st rooting).
So when you upgrade your firmware you just have to also upgrade your Kernel through odin so your phone will still be properly rooted.
I stand to be corrected. I only started reading about rooting today as I just got my Galaxy s2 having come from a Blackberry so new to Android but loving it!!! Best os ever!
I think I will root my phone but not going to touch the firmware as ICS should be release on Kies soon cant wait

Any stock upgrade removes root .

Correct
One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match .

Hello guys. Im relatively new to XDA. So I might sound stupid. My question is, as jje mentioned above "One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match" am i correct in saying that if I update my Galaxy s II (rooted + cwm recovery no custom rom) via kies, then I could run into problems? Also one more question. If I do update via kies, will it remove root and cwm recovery?? Thanks guys. .

Use Odin
I think KIES forbides to upgrade on rooted firmware. Even if it allows you i think you will use your root. I suggest you if you want the latest stock rooted firmware use Odin find the stock rooted XWLSD(Nordic countries) and flash via Odin (Don't use XWLS8 it has bugs), XWLSD is super stable or XXMS1(Poland) or XWLSE(Russia) if you are not from this countries then use XWLSD. If you want custom rom with no mods and no bloatwares use Neat rom or Wanam lite rom, if you want custom rom with mods and no bloatwares use disaster, biftor, omega, alliance rom and etc.
Yeah. I dont mind losing root access. As log as I can get official ota. Btw has the exynos bug been addressed?

Thanks. I will be try updating my rooted i9500 and P600 via Kies. I am not sure if there is already an update for my region available for the S4 but I was prompted to update my P600 only to get a notification telling me that my device has been modified. This was for OTA updating. I really hope it works because I am really not looking forward to un-rooting these devices just for the updates since downloading the stock ROM takes forever. Will post results after trying just in case anyone is interested.
Hello how i can back to stock my galaxy s2? i rooted and put checkrom works nice but i want to learn how get back to stock again im confused
I didnt wrote down the pda version and kernel before install checkrom and rooted what recommend me to do?
thanks.
Just flash official firmware package from Intratech's XDA firmware thread via Odin.
Use your Product Code (sometimes found on your box) on the Chek Fus Download website to find your original PDA etc (if you're not 100% sure) or search the first couple thread posts for match.
Follow his flash instructions and you're done

Actually all the firmwares provided in the thread are stock ..........
If you are a Noob i would not recommend cyanogenmod though it is pretty good but i've heard it's for advanced users and stuff ........ why do you need to flash stock is my primary question ........... use this thread only http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
You need to update latest firmware for your region as a KIES update is there / on the way?
Find out the latest firmware for your region to flash via http://fus.nanzen.se/ it will provide you with the stock firmware your phone should have after selecting the specific region.
You need to update latest firmware irrespective of region (like Me)
Just download the latest firmware available in the 2nd or 3rd section of the thread. in this case 2.3.6 (KK2 or KK5).
In case of any more issues post back.
so I tried kk2 and kk5 and kk2 gave me no service, and kk5 failed to even install. I'm at a loss. I really want CF root, but can't install it on the stock eg30 that I've been using as my stock rom. SO what next? Any other way to figure out which stock firmware from that link will work for my phone?
hello???
Is there anyone who can help me figure this out?????
Hi,
since a couple of hours I own the S2. I already rooted it with odin.
The Kernel is SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4 and it has Android 2.3.4 on it.
As I read there is an update to 2.3.6.
I did find an update file but it says "Android 2.3.6 Open Europe Version i9100XXKL1" so it seems to be another kernel.
Is there an update file for odin for the S2 with my Kernel?
I would really appreciate a little help
Selflezz
No reason why you can't flash XXKL1 2.3.6. This package will contain a kernel which will replace your current kernel anyway. Make sure you keep a record of your current firmware somewhere/memorise it/have it tattooed somewhere on your body.
That way if you ever need to return the phone for warranty service you will be able to find your original firmware in one of Intratech's threads, flash it and then reset the flash counter with a jig so your phone will appear to be as you bought it firmware-wise.

Rather than tattoo it just download the firmware that device came with and stick it safe somewhere.
On every device before any Modding I'll have the device official firmware backup...

Hi all, I have a brand new galaxy SII bought in Belgium. I wanted to root it but something went wrong. I used this guide:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-i9100-icsandroid-4-0/
Now I think I know what went wrong, the guide is only for a device already on ICS (i think) which was not the case. Trouble is that I do not know which kernel version was on the device before the flash and now he doesn't boot anymore. I just see the galaxy S2 logo with triangle and that's it.
Can you please help me? I'm sorry, I know I was really not careful enough...
If you can get into download mode, follow the guide here to root your phone & consider yourself lucky.
If you can't get into download or recovery mode, you're probably boned. Try a jig before you send it to a service center or have it JTAG repaired by a 3rd party.

Thank you for the very quick answer I can get to the download mode without a problem so I think its repairable. Also thank you for the link, problem is that I do not know which version of the insecure kernel i need since the phone doen't boot anymore and I can't see the about phone page... Any tips on that? Or will it be a trial and error game to see with which kernel the phone boots?
Thank you very much for your help!
OK. Being able to get into download mode is good. Now, finding the kernel that came with the phone...
I probably wouldn't go down the trial & error route, have a look at this thread . Don't worry about the links, what you need to do is find the matching kernel for your carrier & country. Then you can look for the matching insecure kernel in the CFRoot thread I linked you to in the previous post.
Edit to add - Linked to wrong thread in first instance, OP, make sure the link you click on takes you to 'Official I9100 Carrier Branded Firmwares'.
Thank you very much. You really are a great help I will try it tommorow morning when I have a bit more time (I don't want to screw it up again ).
No probs ;-) If you have any dramas, post in this thread again. Important thing is to make sure you find the right kernel in that carrier branded firmware thread in the 2nd post, then in the CFRoot kernel thread find the closest match.
For example, if your original kernel is --KF2, you would try and find a matching CFRoot kernel. If there is a KF2 CFRoot kernel, good. You use that. But, if there wasn't a KF2 CFRoot kernel but there was a KF1 or KF3, you could use either of those. Again, this is just an example but should give you an idea of what to look for.
I just booted succesfully. No data lost, everything just fine I did exactly what you said and it worked like a charm. I cannot thank you enough Just wanted to let you know
Really ? Got the phone rooted & all working well ? Very good No probs, glad it worked out well for you/no data loss & most importantly no borked phone
Yep all working fine now. I even put ressurection ics on it without a single problem very glad you were so helpful!
It was so unfortunate that I'm now in this position, a stuck galaxy s 2 logo with triangle on it.
Earlier today, I rooted an SGS2 of my friend on 2.3.4 using XW_NEE_KI4-42: 2.3.4, CF-Root v4.2, SU 3.0, "insecure" to correspond with the 'KI4' code. After that I flashed it with CM9 and all went well.
Seeing the success, another friend wanted me to do the same to his device. I gladly picked up the phone (which was using an official ICS ROM) and simply rooted it using the same file as above via Odin. That is the part where I did wrong. So this phone won't boot and now I have no idea what the 'code' was. Still, odin mode is accessible.
So, where do I go from here?
Should I make new thread for this? Or is the solution provided here is applicable?
The sgs2 was unbranded aka international version.
Thanks in advance.
Flash a stock rom via Odin. That will give you a 'clean slate'. Search Intratech's firmware thread, if the links don't work search Samfirmware.com for the stock firmware you need.
Alternatively, you can get the latest firmware for the phone model/carrier/country with the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google). The firmware package you download can be flashed in Odin following the instructions in Intratech's thread.
you were the one who solved OP problems n now here you are again to help me out. Seriously, thanks.. I'll definitely will give it a try soon when i got back n I'll report back.
Thanks man.

I seem to be following you around lol not on purpose
I'd wouldn't flash a stock rom "straight off the bat" .. Only I would do that as a last resort!
Flashing the correct kernel will make the phone boot up with NO LOSS of data and all will be back to normal
Flashing a stock ROM will mean you have to start all over again.. (like we do anyway when we flash different custom roms)
So I'm not saying your wrong, just saying try a different kernel first!
Thanks Eudemony, I'll try kernel first. So it seems like there are 2 LPBs and 2 LPQs and all of them about 17 different kernels for ICS. Alright, I'll try LPQ first. But, is it okay to keep on flashing/Odin-ing each and every single of it? Any bad consequences of that? Or side effects? hehe, sounded like i'm trying out new drugs.

If it is the wrong kernel .. you know the result as you have just done that..
and thats what you are trying to fix
If its the right kernel .. everything should "magically" load back up

Seems like you're 'downgrade' your friend's S2... If AP unit then take a look at your friend's S2 box any IMEI or Warranty Card which can identified the phone origin region.. My phone AP unit no problem flashing latest open europe firmware from samfirmware website... Already rooted and no annoying yellow triangle... flash counter zero... thanks triangle away.. In your case once your friend's phone region is identified then download accordingly.. flash the correct firmware via odin... deal with triangle later.. most important ensure your friend's phone working and please avoid softbrick..
IMEI will identify aprox build date and area of release .

Told ya not to panic!
Not a Problem m8 .. thought it would be LPQ as Malaysia was one of the first countries to get Official ICS and LPQ was the first official one released

Seriously? I didnt know that. Actually, before upgrading his phone (lets call him Z), Y asked me to flash CM9 but then since his phone wasn't yet rooted with 2.3.4 on top, I decided to update using kies to see whats it like to have an official ics (youtube isnt enough, hehe) but to no avail. Kies told me the phones having the latest firmware even though I've updated kies to latest version.. hmmm..
