[Q] JT's CM7 Kernel - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondered if PBJ Time is going to work on this or if there are other similar kernels out there to use?
Thanks

The only kernel other than the one jt included in cm7 that is compatible is nemesis2all's OTB 1.5 kernel. I'm assuming you like PBJ time because of the undervolt. With OTB kernels from nemesis2all you can run a customized undervolt with the voltage control app. You should try it.

Yep, that would be the reasoning. I will give it a shot. Thanks KS.

You do know that both of these are from Team Whiskey, right?
The best kernel, as with all of the other what is the best questions, is the one that suites your needs the best. If you don't know what it does or what features you do or don't need stick with stock.

after trying out a couple kernels, i found out that Super I/o is the best for my vibrant!!
using the IO kernel now but i can't notice a difference. but it's fast od course but the stock kernel is as stable as this one.

yep stock an the i/o are both as stable, i just use the i/o it seems a bit more snappy to me. i used the dow 1.3 and 1.4 and they where fast but crashed alot. =/ soo "Nero 3 - OCLF lagfix - super IO" is the way to goo -=D
im on the morfic castle thing but wheres the super i/o?
just a quick question, does any of the kernels come with cifs support? or do they include the cifs.ko module? I used the cifs manager to mount shares on windows hosts. thanks

Just so all of you know....any of you that are using this on another rom OTHER than eugenes rom are experiencing nothing more than a placebo effect. I know people have asked eugene if this would work on other roms and for whatever reason he's told people that he wasn't sure, even though he knew it wouldn't.
This kernel is simply a stock 2.2 vibrant kernel that calls an init script called 'mtpx' in the /bin directory. Its the same exact init script I had in Obsidian v5 called 'sombionixInit'. His flashable kernel doesn't install this file, its a file included in his rom, not the kernel. For that reason, if you are using this kernel on any other rom but his, you are running a stock kernel, nothing more, nothing less.

[Q] Fastest Vibrant Kernel/ROM?

Hey guys. I was wondering what kernel and or ROM is the fastest availible at the moment.
I've been following the Android Developement pages here for a while, and I consider myself somewhat proficient at flashing firmware, etc.
I'm running CM7 on my Vibrant right now, and I was wanting to flash a different ROM. I considered going back to stock, but I wanted to get input on what is the fastest availible right now.
Also: what lagfixes and overclocking tools do you use? I am trying to make my Vibrant as fast as possible.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Malice is the fastest. Bullet kernel is the only one which can do 1.4Ghz so i am assuming its the fastest.
Agreed! kernel/ROM (imho) Bullet1.42Ghz/Malice2.3.1.
Another good kernel i like is Tigersbloodv3
Both those kernels OC well if ur phone can handle it.
If your phone doesn't play well with OC my personal favorite is CwK
Also, download Spare Parts from the market and set both animations to "fast"... this makes the ROMs appear much faster.
The real test is going back and forth between apps and the load time.
"fast" is kind of a floating point. As someone already mentioned, fast can sometimes be as easy as speeding up the animations.
I've had great luck with the SimplyGalaxy roms due to their ability to remain fast months after flashing.
Cool! Thanks for all the input, guys!
What about overclocking and lagfix utilities?
I heard there is an app or tool that you can overclock, but set to underclock when the phone is not in use...
Also, I was using one click lag fix on stock, is there anything like that I need for these ROMs, or does it come built in?
For over/under clocking, try setcpu from the market.
OCLF is nowhere near as good as Voodoo. Most ROMs that are available in the dev section come with a voodoo injected kernel.
Try vibrace overclocked. I guerentee you will love it!

Malice or Bi Winning W/ Bullet Kernel.
Then spare parts to adjust animation speeds. <3
I personally found MIUI to be the snappiest at 1.3 ghz.
I've been running custom ROMs on my vibrant since the day it became possible, and every time I install something other than one of Eugene's ROMs I come to regret it.
CM7 with a custom OC/UV kernel gets a 2100 Quadrant that translates to a really snappy UI and 3D faster than any 2.2 ROM.

I reach quadrant scores in the 2700's on 2.2.1 roms....but what does that really matter.

[Kernel][ED05][TW]PBJ based non-voodoo ED05 kernel[08-04-11]

For those on complete STOCK ED05.
Based off of imnut's ED05 PBJ kernel
All I added was the dpram.c changes that jt1134 did for phone not waking for calls.
I have no clue if it works, couldn't get anyone to test it. Everyone seemed to have a better solution </sarcasm>
Well here it is:

Right now this is just a test for people having incoming call issues with stock ED05.

I tried the kernel with a debloated stock ED01 Rom even though kernal is for stock ED05. So far no missed calls all day long even when phone has been sleeping for a couple of hours. Also running EC09 radio. Looks like problem with missed calls has been a kernel issue all along and not a problem with rom or radio.
been using this with powerwash on two phones for a few days now without issue
thanks for these!
Now thats something which all of us have been waiting for
thanks a bunch TI , god bless you mate ,
although atm i am on complete stock ed05 ( and its really great to use a good STOCK ROM ) but i can now try my favourite builds with this kernel.
again a bunch of thankies mate ,
downloading and pocketing it somewhere safe , and will try it out in a few days .
regards
When I flash this Kernel it goes to the samsung screen and sets there
do I have to wipe before kernel flash
Thanks
Running ED05 Stock Rooted

Since this is based off of a PBJ kernel, is it undervolted at all? I'd like an ED05 kernel with stock voltages that works with the bootanimation.zip. imnuts says starting with his 8/4 version it was undervolted at -100 so was wondering it this kernel is as well.

it might be. this kernel was just a test for people having missed calls issue. i only made a few changes which he merged into the final version of his kernel. so this kernel isn't of much use anymore.

[Q] Voodoo Kernel for Gee Wiz 1.1.1

I've installed the full GeeWiz Rom/Kernel on my Fascinate and I really like my phone now after a running stock for quite a while and being less than impressed.
My question. The phone is darn near perfect except for a little lag and so I thought I would try the voodoo lag fix. Is there a kernel as stable at the GeeWiz kernel that contains the lag fix? Could someone point me in the proper direction.
I've read quite a bit and must say that there are a lot of opinions and links out there but I can't quite seem to find what I am looking for.
thanks,
you have 2 options.. 1.6 otb fusion kernel or the 0808 pbj kernel. I recomend the pbj but not all phones can handle the undervolt...you will have to try it and see.
How do u install a voodoo Kernel on geewiz rom?

Pw 1. 2 and gee wiz 1. 1 with the gee wiz kernel is as close to perfection as you're gonna get with TW froyo. Otb is not stable enough and will make your camera crash most of the time. Most phones cannot handle the Uv on imnuts Pbj.
I ran pw 1. 2 with gee wiz kernel for 10 days without a single re boot or freeze. No bells and whistles but by far the most stable Rom I ran on this phone
PWGB,TKSGB10-15, adren shot xix honeycomb2.03, ec09 radio.
Pw rom I have random freezing on trail xteme2 and zombie killers..
Running gee wiz now..would like to install voodoo?

Download kernel to sd card. three finger into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik, install zip from sd. fyi there are guides all over this forum that explain this.

well you cant flash a froyo voodoo kenel on a gingerbread rom and vice versa. Thats most likely was your problem. In the op you posted geewiz 1.1.1, which is a froyo rom and I gave you a 2 froyo voodoo kernels that will work. Now you post saying the tks kernel flashed and booted fine meaning you are on geewiz 2.x ei20 gingerbread. In order to get accurate answers it helps to provide accurate information.

Make double sure you're matching roms with the right kernels. Wipe dalvik before flashing. Also, make sure you're running a reliable recovery

I understand that...was just saying why you got stuck at the samsung screen lastnight. If your on eh09/ei20gb then tks kernel or imoseyon's lean kernel are your other 2 options.
Ok thanks

Can someone build us an OC kernel?

I know all the players have their respective kernels with basic overclocking built in. I'd LOVE to have a kernel with free/open overclocking through setcpu or a similar app.
I don't know about other kernels but Entropy's has overclocking up to 1.2ghz built in but I still find that to be horribly inadequate. I was running 1.5 stable on the stock rom and it made the whole device eons faster. I'm sick of having to use tegrak because it doesn't work on all the ROMs currently available.
Can anyone pretty please recompile the kernels with voltages and CPU speed unlocked? I know people will probably abuse it, but that's what disclaimers are for!
What ROM are you using? I've tried every single one compatible for the USA 5.0 version of the SGP, and TegraK has worked with all of them.

Didn't work on the CM9 roms.. 1.2ghz included in the kernel does, but that's it. Tegrak says device is not supported. It'd also be nice to have native OC support.
I have the 4.0 using Icy~Fusion ROM and TerraSilent 1.3.5 kernal. I'm using setCPU to overclock and undervolt. Overclock is at 1.2 (highest i can go). My problem is not being able to use the profiles. No profile i set will work. I've been told it's the kernal i'm using. Anyone else seeing this problem? Which kernal would you suggest i use on the 4.0 to get the profiles working?
I know it's not a kernel but you can oc the galaxy player to 1.6 ghz using an app called Tegrak. Only thing is you have to redo the oc after a reboot.
