How do I load a new bootanimation? I have erased the cm7 boot and placed the unstable core.zip in my system media directory. I have boot sound but no animation. Please help....

The first thing to check is if the file is named bootanimation.zip because won't work if it's named anything else. To make it easier on yourself next time, just put the new boot animation in /data/local because the system looks there first and if it finds bootanimation.zip there, it will use it instead of one in /system/media. Also, ensure the permissions are rw-r--r-- and if not change them using root explorer or "chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip" or "chmod 644 /data/local/bootanimation.zip".

This is the first time I've "developed" anything (if you can call it that) so be easy on me
I made this simple boot animation, it's colorful, clutter free, and crisp.
Preview: The color flame wobbles around, the evo3d text flies in and the wobbling continues
Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O55PBS9Y
Install: place zipped file in /system/customize/resource
You can use adb or root explorer to do this.
Followed the directions but I"m stuck on my old animation. Not sure what's wrong but I would really like to see this one running!
did you use root explorer or adb?
root explorer
Renamed to bootanimation.zip and dropped it in data/local. Works great!
^ works just fine too.
You can also copy over the original (system/customize/resource/Sprint_bootanimaion.zip) if you like.
Good job on the anim. I need to share mine...i made my first one Monday. Its a portion from the 1986 Transformer movie where megatron is being turned into galvatron. I'm a super nerd so may as well nerd up my phone. XD
Edit...not sure on permissoin modification when using it in data/local but you may have to set permissions to
Owner: R W
Group: R
Others: R
to have it work if you copy over the factory. I used the default animations permissions i listed above and never had probs. Didnt see a reason or need to try with unmodified permissions. Just a though =-)

Also, you had this work without modifying the default XML to look to that path? Just wanting to make sure i'm understanding because factory default xml explicitly points to the customize folder Sprint_bootanimation.zip.
Thanks!
nice boot animation!
if you're going through adb shell the permissions are 644
so chmod 644 nameoffile
I'm not responsible for what you do with you're phone. I've tested this and it worked on my phone. I can not, and will not guarantee it will work on yours!!
With that said, Let's dive in:
1. have root access
2. adb shell
3. gain root with su
4. navigate to /system/customize/resource
4. enter the commands to rename the files
# mv Ruby_startup_audio.wav Ruby_startup_audio
# mv TMOUS_bootanimation.zip TMOUS_bootanimation
# mv TMOUS_downanimation.zip TMOUS_downanimation
to revert, simply rename the files to their original names.
Cool, perhaps when I get my Amaze 4G I can create a custom boot animation and sound that would be more fitting.
Can you upload those three original files?

Would not let me upload a .wav file, so delete the .pdf extension after download.
Enjoy!
here's some help if you want the original HTC boot animation and shutdown animation.....IF YOU REMOVE the TMOUS animation files you will by default get the original android bootanimation and no shutdown animation....If you prefer that keep it like that...I prefered the HTC boot animation and down animation:

I have installed Kangs CM9 ICS and absolutly love it. Thank you Devo Team for all the work that you all do and definite thumbs up on all.
I would like to change my boot animation and i have followed the directions of some posts and it has not worked.
Applying zip from sdcard in CWM recovery. Renaming the animation to bootanimation.zip and moving to the system folder under media and it wont move or work.
I am using the CWM touch that i have found in the forums and using CM9 like i said.
What can i do to change the animation?
If you have a bootanimationn.zip file just use root explorer and copy it into the /system/media folder just overwrite the existing or rename it prior to copying over the new one. Just make sure you mimic the permissions of the original.

how do i mimic the permissions
Copy bootanimation.zip with Root Explorer, navigate to system/media, enable read/write with Root Explorer when in system/media, paste the bootanimation.zip into system/media, long press on bootanimation.zip, select permissions from menu, set permissions to RW/R/R, then reboot.
Does anyone know how to make a boot animation for my WT19a???

The bootanimazion is a zip file containing some pictures. It's located in /system/media/bootanimation.zip.
Create your own bootanimation.zip and replace the original. That's all
Remember to set permissions to 644 for the new bootanimation.zip
I do not seem to have that folder "system", I'm running Cymod though.

Boot Animation
First of all go to system>media>bootanimation.zip and send it to your comp
unzip the file and do the changes and rename it bootanimation.zip
now the original animation you can rename anything and it is necessary or it will mingle with your new one
now paste the new animation and reboot
Enjoy your new animation

1) .zip file musn't use compression
2) after you paste new bootanimation.zip file into /system/media, you must give it 644 permission (rw,r,r)

So I rooted my Lg Realm ls620 with TowelRoot and I downloaded ROM Toolbox full version for 5$ from PLay Store
Which comes with cpu control boot animations Led control and more.
When I was going to flash a boot animation I downloaded from it I accidentally chose a plain picture instead of the thing I downloaded from it. Now my Lg realm wont go past its startup screen.
This is what it says on the top left corner upon startup.
[670] fastboot_init()
[670] Error:allocating memory for ssd buffer
[670] USB init ept @ 0x7ac9000
[710] udc_start()
Is there a way to fix this? I even tried to factory reset. It says it's resetting but nothing happens within hours.
Im kind of new to this rooting/bricking stuff. Thanks.
Have you tried removing battery and putting it back in? I had something similar happen (not with bootanimations though) and that worked for me.
I've used bootanimations from rom toolbox and xda without a problem. If you install a bootanimation from rom toolbox it puts it in system/media folder but your not done yet. Using root explorer go to system/media folder and copy your bootanimation to carrier/cust/poweron (rename the one that's in there first to bootanimation.zip1 if you don't want to delete it). Make sure to rename your new one bootanimation.zip. You have to change permissions. Using root explorer press and hold on bootanimation scroll down and tap on permissions. First column "Read" check all. Second column "Write" check first box. Uncheck all others. You can use the same procedure with a shutdown animation in the poweroff folder. You can use the same bootanimation or a different one and just copy to poweroff folder rename it to shutdownanimation.zip and change permissions the same way you did for a bootanimation.
Also if you want sound with your animation below the bootanimation there's a Poweron.ogg file. You can use a notification ringtone (I used the Darth Vader one to go with my r2d2 droid animation). Using root explorer just copy your ringtone to the poweron folder and rename it to Poweron.ogg (delete the one that's in there first) and change permissions to the same as the bootanimation. You can do the same in the poweroff folder just rename that one to Poweroff.ogg.
Other people have deleted these poweron and poweroff folders and used just the system/media folder, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/themes-apps/bootanimation-android-5-0-l-boot-t2814467/page34) post #335, but I like doin it this way.
Edit: Rename PowerOn.ogg not Poweron.ogg and PowerOff.ogg not Poweroff.ogg.
