[Q] CM9 changing boot animation on Motorola Atrix 4g - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed Kangs CM9 ICS and absolutly love it. Thank you Devo Team for all the work that you all do and definite thumbs up on all.
I would like to change my boot animation and i have followed the directions of some posts and it has not worked.
Applying zip from sdcard in CWM recovery. Renaming the animation to bootanimation.zip and moving to the system folder under media and it wont move or work.
I am using the CWM touch that i have found in the forums and using CM9 like i said.
What can i do to change the animation?

If you have a bootanimationn.zip file just use root explorer and copy it into the /system/media folder just overwrite the existing or rename it prior to copying over the new one. Just make sure you mimic the permissions of the original.

how do i mimic the permissions

Copy bootanimation.zip with Root Explorer, navigate to system/media, enable read/write with Root Explorer when in system/media, paste the bootanimation.zip into system/media, long press on bootanimation.zip, select permissions from menu, set permissions to RW/R/R, then reboot.

Q> about boot animation?

When installing a custom boot animation can i just use Root Explorer to move the .zip to /System/Media folder ... And will that work? do i need to remove anything?
Root Explorer FTW! That's what I always use to move my animations. I found it a good practice to delete or move the previous bootanimation.zip because I had a suspicion that overwriting it with the new one didn't always work properly. I didn't do a lot of research on this however, but, I figure, better safe than sorry. Why not eliminate potential problems before they arise? Just make sure the original bootanimation.zip isn't in the /data/local file as that is another place the animation can be stored and work from. I actually think it looks in that folder first before browsing the /system/media folder. Hope this helps.

[Q] How do you install a custom boot animation?

I've been googling the hell out of this and can't find a solution. I have the bootanimation.zip that I want, but I can't find a way to move it into system/media. I tried root explorer and that didn't work.
are you using a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip?
try rom manager, download rom and sonfskywalker3

I'm not sure. I'm kind of a noob at all of this. I flashed Axura 2.0.6 to my Vibrant today. The systems/media folder does have a bootanimation.zip in it though.
You can change them with axura just get root explorer and place your bootanimation.zip in system/media

rename your original bootabimation to like something else and then use root explorer to move the bootanimation to the system/media/
Besure its a zip and spelled correctly or it wont work.
Axura supports bootanimation.
After u move REBOOT so your system knows it's changed then watch if it worked.
Just tried it and got this:
Paste Failure
There was not enough free disk space to complete the paste operation.
Edit: Nevermind, got it to work using Super Manager instead of Root Explorer.

No boot animating on gsb 3.3 Eris.....help

How do I load a new bootanimation? I have erased the cm7 boot and placed the unstable core.zip in my system media directory. I have boot sound but no animation. Please help....

The first thing to check is if the file is named bootanimation.zip because won't work if it's named anything else. To make it easier on yourself next time, just put the new boot animation in /data/local because the system looks there first and if it finds bootanimation.zip there, it will use it instead of one in /system/media. Also, ensure the permissions are rw-r--r-- and if not change them using root explorer or "chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip" or "chmod 644 /data/local/bootanimation.zip".

Cannot find boot animation file for MIUI

I recently got MIUI for the Nook Tablet and I cannot find the file for the boot animation, I checked under system/media and could not find the boot animation zip file or a .png file. Is there another place where the file is located?
Try /data/local

Use root explorer from / =root. It has a great search feature among other things. I'm not running MIUI but you should be able to search for bootanimation.zip.
Good Luck!
Lars for tobdaryl
downloaded MIUI from xda and bootanimation.zip is located /system/media when installed

MIUI is a different than CM7 or CM9. If you wanna upload a boot animation, save it on your SD Card and upload it through your theme manager. The Theme Manager will add your boot animation to the section.

Wow, that might be the world's most boring animation, but it's still cool to have, so thank you!
Has anybody made the other boot animation with the triangles from Jelly Bean yet? Just watched the video on YouTube about it. Much much better animation!

I did this:
rename to bootanimation.zip
place on your sdcard,
move to /system/media
set permissions to rw--r--r
reboot
Nothing happened. Same old boot screen. Am I supposed to unzip the bootanimation.zip file?

What did you use to move to the /system/media folder?
Is your file system mounted as writable?

Make sure your file system is mounted as writable. I used ES File Explorer and did all the steps, and it didn't work. So I checked the ES settings and it wasn't "Mounted as writable". Once I fixed that, and did the exact same steps, it worked. The animation looks great.

Hi. I just tried that and it didn't work either. Just moving the bootanimation.zip to the \system\media is all I need to do (besides setting the permissions)? There is no other bootanimation.zip file in the media folder. How does the phone know to use the bootanimation.zip file when booting? Thanks.
Guess this will not work on stock OCS.
Does anyone have a bootanimation that is in the default Samsung format

What rom are you on? Custom boot animation may not be supported.
Is your current boot animation the android logo? There was no other bootanimation.zip in the folder for me, until I placed the renamed JB one.
here's my complete list of steps, that produced the desired results for me on Black*STAR IV ics rom:
*dl file to PC, renamed to bootanimation.zip placed in dropbox
*extracted to external sd card from dropbox app on phone
*moved to /system/media/ folder with ES file explorer (with mounted as writable, and all root options enabled)
*set permissions using Rom Toolbox's root browser
*rebooted phone and enjoyed animation
Mine does samsung logo samsung logo, android logo, then booted up.
Permissions set in ROM toolbox. Bootanimation.zip.
Must be my ROM's animation, (the android letters) needs removed?
Permisions is RW-R--R--
