Sd card stole apps - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

something strang happend yesterday! i wanted to meet a friend and update her phone as she was running miniCM6 RC2 so i put the update on my sd card and went to meet her. so then i stuck my sd card in her phone and updated and everything worked fine. BUT THEN...... all her apps and launcher were gone and she got really mad!!! then i noticed that it was all on my phone and i was like WTF so i did a restore of a backup that i did shortly before i started. and everything is fine on her phone. BUT not on mine..... did a restore and a factory reset but her apps and launcher are STILL on my SD card
and then i woke up this morning and PANG i knew why...... i forgot that i have an ext partition and all the apps and stuff went there LOL
so i learned my lesson!!!
just wanted to share that!!

Wow
Something strange happened to me too yesterday!
I was just walking along, minding my own business, and the suddernly I got an idea. I think its safe to say ideas doesnt always come easy, at least not for me. Anyway... I got an idea to uninstall an app I felt like I didnt wanted anymore. I uninstalled the caller-app. And whattoyouknow suddernly I couldnt make any calls anymore.
I could not understand what was wrong for hours, when it struck me! Maybe I shouldnt have uninstalled the caller-app!!
Luckily I am a real tech-wiz so I called the internet from my imaginary phone and spelled some http commands using tcp/ip language with some binary code spelled in morse. The internet told me to restore the app using tit.backup. Since I got no tits on my back, as far as I know, I put on my googles perform a more comprehensive search. And then, suddernly, out of the cloud the app came dropping in the shape of a troyan horse. I thought it was a bit phishy, but the wall of fire in front of me made me certain I was sane as a brick.
I was like: Yahoo! when I could make calls again
Just wanted to share my Xperience
Pun intended but no offence meant.

[Q] Found a Galaxy SII Need help getting owners info!

So I found a GSII on the train today, Nobody to been seen so I picked it up and took it with me, Got home to discover a lock screen, No smudges on the screen to guess the lock. Look at the SD Card there's a few images of a kid and some toys but that is all, Im guess everything else is on the internal memory.
Anyway to unlock this device and get any info to contact the owner, Tried the networks, they said it has not been reported as lost or stolen.
Not the kind of guy to keep this. I have a Galaxy Nexus
Could you try to set your phone like it doesn't ask for pin and then insert the sim card from that sgs2 to look for numbers like mom

There was no sim in the phone when I found it, Which I though was bizzare.

Wow, that's quite polite of you.
You're the reason I keep an "Owner's Info" message on my lockscreen (and other people are the reason that I use a 9-digit PIN).
I commend you for your honesty, but unfortunately I can't provide assistance.
It could have been stolen, which would explain the absence of a SIM. Maybe the previous 'owner' couldn't do anything with it either and gave up.
You might be able to flash a new ROM, but everything would be deleted...and you'd still not have the owner's info.
Good luck, sir and thank you for your honesty!
No phone numbers??? Try syncing with google... see if there are any email addresses or ANYTHING on the phone... Very honest though hats off...
I once found a phone like you did but found loads of pics of him cheating on his wife :S there was a message with HER address on so I delivered it.... I wonder what did happen to them lol
Just hand it into a cop shop or train station that you found it at...

For something like this I'd exhaust all possibilities to find the owner personally first, otherwise the Lost 'n Found will "lose" it, even PD's "lose" stuff. The owner is lucky that someone whom doesn't want to keep it, or sell it, has found it.
Edit: although without a sim card it's probably a drug mule's phone and you should bring a gun to the meet just in case.
Done a factory reset, Which says it will wipe data. It failed, Now I can look at teh pictures and try figure out who they are. More childrens movies on the internal stornage
Woah, how kind of you wanting to return the phone.. Only one thing comes to my mind - all phones should be trackable by their IMEI - perhaps try flashing a full wipe base ROM via ODIN (maybe pulling all the data you can thru adb first?), and perhaps try contacting samsung officials in your country about a found phone?? That is if the guy was fortunate enough to create a samsung account or something that could identify him..
EDIT: Okay I found a thread, perhaps you can try running an ADB command like this to get the contacts database??
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-rescue-squad/30987-acquire-contacts-via-adb.html
Pulling the contacts database is good but if adb wasn't already enabled you would have to root it with cf-root then boot into recovery and run the adb commands from it since adb is enabled in recovery by default *may have to mount data partition*
Pin is stored in the EFS folder, and no factory reset or firmware flash will touch that. Messing with EFS can have dire consequences if corrupted (no IMEI = no network connection).
But if no choice, take a look at Hellcatdroid's solution with
ADB here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476634
Edit as previous poster, maybe even flash a Chainfire CF-Root kernel, and then boot into CWM recovery. Mount partitions, and use windows program "Android Commander" to file explore any system partition for more info. The EFS could backed upped and even deleted. But risks outlined earlier.

I was nice enongh to not only try to get the phone back to the owner and data instead of being lost in the lost and found, People really shouldnt assume the worst.
Im still left with a GSII that was crushed by a bus but has a valid IMEI a GSII thats barred from network best I can do with it is use it like a iPod Touch. Or pull the battery for a spare in my Nexus.

Can't format, tons of apps crashing.

So... I have FJ Mod on my note. Things have been running great for a long time. Then a few days a go, out of the blue, google voice was constantly crashing. Then the gapps process. Then it got ridiculous and everything would crash. Then I noticed that when I restart, it saves nothing that I had done. For instance, my call log, text messages, moved icons on my homepage.
I did a wipe in CWM, and everything came back the exact same. Still the same problem, icons still in the wrong place... no idea whats going on.
Has anyone got any advice for me? I was going to try and put a new ROM on later if worse comes to worse, but as is, this is very frustrating. I often have to restart my phone just to use the browser, or message, or anything really. I am just hoping that my internal SD isn't screwed some how and now allowing me to write to it. I haven't done any changes. I don't even believe I have downloaded any apps since a week or so prior to this issue.
Flashing with ODIN did not good either. I tried to revert back to stock. It uploaded with no issues apparently, and then when it rebooted I was back in ICS with everything as it was... argh.
Find one of the the ics leaka one click Odin packages and run that. Should wipe everything, and then you just have to flash cwm and root again.

Well, I tried something similar with a rogers stock rom. Booted up Odin, connected to issues. Uploaded/transferred no issues. Figured I'd be on stock Gingerbread upon bootup, but it was ICS! I've done this and similar on multiple phones, not sure whats happening. I will try again with a different rom as you suggested tonight.
I know where the leaks are...this loser has them here....

I had the EXACT problem, out of the blue as well. I didn't have the other stated problems in your OP but I did have the one quoted above. First voice , then a few google apps(gmail, drive, etc). The apps would hang for a few 1-2 minutes (felt like hours) and the phone including capacitive buttons became unresponsive and couldn't do anything with the phone. The "wait" or "ok" buttons on the force close popup were not clickable.. It sorted itself out in a few days and boy did it drive me NUTS. I was afraid to post up here in fear people would think I was nuts and did something myself to make things go so awry. I was convinced I myself was nuts.. im by no means daft when it comes to android dev/tinkering lol. Very strange

Well I was impatient and tried 2 different roms right away. Neither worked. Odin showed "pass", no errors. Then it does its auto-restart and bam, back where I was. Not having the best of luck with this right now.
Any other ideas would be appreciated!

LOL I actually waited a few days before posting here too. I was hoping that maybe uninstalling and reinstalling some, or updated, or clearing cache and all that would help. As you can see, it did nothing. Heck, after I restart my updates didnt even stick and Google Play is trying to download them again!
Well... still no luck.
Here is another thing I noticed. When I hook up the note to my PC, and look at it, I cannot access my external SD. Furthermore, I had a file on my internal SD that I deleted. When I restarted my phone the file was back. Yet in windows it removed without error. I have no idea what is happening at all.
And now its reading it again........ Ive literally been sitting here trying a bunch of different ways to fix this. Playing around in CWM, trying ODIN including a couple 1 click solutions. The one starts writing to NAND, then stops and gives me an error.
Try taking out your sd card and running it for a while. First note i got was acting that way from the get go. Took it back and got a new one. It started doing the same thing. Finally took out sd card and ran great. Card was going bad. I had replaced the 8 gb stock card with the 16 gb one i had in another phone and apparently the mote didn't like it.

Did you, by any chance, install a custom kernal? IIRC, one of them messed with the mount points. By far, the only way to fix your issue immediately will involve restoring to stock through ODIN, then rerooting and reflashing CWM. This will 100% mark your Note as either defective, or prove that it's a problem in another area. However, I don't believe your problem is with your SD Card, unless you've been using an app like apps2sd.
If you're weary about doing this, try to reflash CWM, or TWRP to figure out if it's something going on with the recovery partition and/or settings. I'm no expert, but the only thing I'm aware of that sticks around through a wipe, and multiple flashes are our recovery, our internal SD files (possible), and sometimes the modem. Also, the one click leaks include a not loader, which could prevent you from restoring a GB Nandroid.
By flashing CWM, then TWRP, then CWM again, or sticking with TWRP, you at least knock out one variable...and by reformatting your internal SD, you ensure no resources are sticking around.
Edit:are you using TiBu to backup and restore/migrate after a flash? Verify your backups under the batch lost.
What could be happening, is you're restoring data in CWM, or TiBu, or w/e ap you're using, and then the Google account sync restore is restoring your settings, and replacing the desired ones, or vice versa.
Edit again: Which launcher are you using? Which utilities do you use? What are your main root apps?
The backup verify is a must...but some launchers will scoot icons out of the way. If you're having a touch screen issue, or an S Pen issue, you could be draggn items around when you're not aware of it.
I'll see this through. You've caught my interest.

Also, tap USB utilities in settings, by the other FJ mods, and tap the selection there, then check to see if you can find your SD card through your PC.
In addition to the above, you can also enter the "Tools" section of FJmods, and disable ad blocking, remove touchwiz UI, s voice, etcetera, and return ALL settings too default, and remove all extras. You can reflash recovery there too.
How are you trying to reformat your SD card?

I had installed a custom kernel on Gingerbread before, but obviously that was replaced with the one I used with FJmod. It had been operating fine for over a month.
Also, I removed my SD Card, and tried everything without it. I have tried restoring gingerbread stock and ICS stock through both ODIN and CWM. Even formatting through CWM does nothing as when I restart I am back to normal.
As for root, I only had 2-3 programs with access. ES File Manager/Task manager, and I tried one called Lucky Patcher (I will verify this evening). All of these had been on for at least a week prior to all this beginning.
I havent been using TiBu for anything at all actually.
The launcher I am using at the moment is Nova.
Other than that, I am going to try a few of your suggestions once I am done work. I will post my results tonight!
Thanks for the suggestions and info, greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Just to be clear. I am formatting then restarting and all my apps, icon placements and wallpaper return. Even my call history is stuck up to the 13th and erases recent calls. I am also trying to revert to stock ICS and Gingerbread through both ODIN and CWM. After it is done installing through ODIN and reboots, I return to the way my phone was before. Same with CWM. After flashing through CWM I return right back to the way it was. I am not doing any restoring or anything. I have done this plenty of times in the past before. The only thing I can possibly imagine at this point is that my SD is somehow stuck on read only. Yet it is weird because again, I can delete files and apps (and even windows shows them as gone), but after a restart they are all back! I can remove apps, but they are still in the app menu too.... I can even run them lol (even after deleting their folder). The phone is stuck in stasis.
All of this just happened one day out of the blue. No new apps (for at least a week) too.
I have a GTab that had the EXACT same symptoms.. turns out it's internal flash memory was bad, not the microSD. going for broke I opened it up and desoldered the flash memory IC and it uses the microSD now as its primary storage. If even after a stock reflash you have problems I hope you have warranty.

No sir. I tried stock gingerbread and ics. I've tried custom roms. I've tried just erasing it too! Tried Odin and CWM. I am going to try and change recovery today again too.

[Q] Battery pulled out during factory reset

Hello,
I'm writing this as a last refuge to console myself. I got caught up in a dangerous situation today in which I had to give up my android phone i.e. Motorola Atrix 2 in order to save my life. Since all my personal and official data was stored on the sd card, which I couldn't pull out from the phone, I had activated the factory reset - including sd card formatting - before handing it over. As luck would have it, I was pressurized to give it up before the process finished so in a bid to save the data from getting into the wrong hands, I pulled out the battery while it was erasing data from the sd card according to the dialog box. My questions is: What are the chances of the sd card getting corrupted and the data becoming inaccessible? I need to know as I'm under a lot of stress because of it and there's no chance of getting it back. I had changed my google account's password the moment I reached home (after fifteen to twenty minutes) so I also the phone would have locked out. Please respond at the earliest.
Thanks.
It probably deleted some files depending on how long the dialog was up. From my past experiences sometimes I got a corrupt card (very rare) and sometimes a few files were deleted. The only thing you can do from this point is to actually check and see it any damage was done.

It was up for 30 seconds to a minute. May be a little more. What do you think?
How much difference does it make if I change my Google account's password?

Could be a lot of data was deleted but it shouldn't be corrupt as far as I know just most likely completely formatted. So yea, tell you carrier that you don't have the phone anymore. The person who took your phone will just have to create his own Google account afterwards. Call the cops? They could trace the number and whatnot. I guess I didn't understand what I was reading the first time I read the post, you were held at life or death to give up your phone? That sounds horrifying, I'm sorry.

Being an ordinary citizen, I don't have such luxuries available in my country so I have to do pretty much everything myself. I was and it's been a terrible experience - mostly just because of my data. If he logs in from another Google account on my phone, will he be able to access my apps/contacts? I had taken the battery and sim out while it was factory resetting so he'd be asked to sign-in again, right?
Thanks a lot for your response.

Really sorry to hear that!
Quite shocked as well
Well,if factory reset is complete which I believe shouldn't take upto 1 min [still, depends on your data, ]
Then,he'll have to sign in for sure!
If you've not backed up your contacts to Sd card and he doesn't know to recover it back, then you're contacts are safe!
However you should have probably tried not removing battery at that time [I know it's easier said than done, anyways I sincerely hope things go fine and also hope you are alright]

Yes, I'm still in shock and under a lot of stress.
Factory resetting hadn't completed and it was erasing sd card when I pulled the battery out hoping it would get corrupted. To see what happens in such a situation, I went to a friend's place today who has the same phone. We used his spare sd card of 4 gb (mine was 32gb with at least only twelve gbs free) to perform the same action. I started the factory reset with sd card formatting and pulled the battery out once it started erasing (didnt give it as much time as I had given to mine. After doing that I inserted the battery again and restarted the phone to check the sd card but it had corrupted although it didn't ask me for any gmail id. That's some relief but my card had larger storage so there are some doubts as well. *sigh*
I don't remember backing them up so I'm not sure.
I wish I could...
Thanks a lot, brothers. Do let me know what you think. Its very much appreciated.
You take care as well.
Apps and contacts data are linked to your Gmail so the guy shouldn't have access to any of your data without your Gmail account. Good news that the sd card got corrupt, at least it's safe to know there's a higher chance to know it corrupted or not.
If you backed up your contacts on sd card and he finds the vcard he will restore it into another android phone! I think the sd card will got corupted!

Good to know that! I agree. I'm just hoping everything and everyone remains safe...
Just to be 100% safe, I would change the password to all my major information first. Things that have to do with credit cards like PayPal or ebay. But since you factory reset the phone it also removed the pass code you had put in it (I'm almost certain it does). Just watch yourself is all I can say, watch your online activities to see if he has any of your info.

Galaxy SIII flashed to Cricket - cant send mms & more

Hi, I can see that this has been a problem for many users but darned if I can find anywhere that the question has been answered. The one answer that I did find said to download the Android Messaging app from the Playstore. I immediately went to do just that only to see that the app doesn't handle mms anymore. My phone is not rooted, and I'm really terrified to do that. I don't think I can root it anyway, see issue number 3 below.
I bought this phone Christmas 2012 and went with Verizon. We've recently moved and I changed my provider to Cricket. I went to a general cell phone store and they flashed the phone. Since then I've had a few issues. I'm really afraid to root my phone and would rather not have to go that route. Even though this phone is giving me problems, it's still far better than my previous phone, a Huawei Ascend.
First, I can't send pictures. I can receive them just fine, but when I try to send pictures the whole text fails to send, not just the pics. Also, I have to keep any text messages basically within the little window that you type in. If my message is longer than that (I don't know how many characters) then the receiver only sees what has been described as jibberish. So, even though it drives me batty, I have to send texts like "R U NE were near us? Hw mch longer will U B?" Or, instead of "I wanted to go to Kroger but had to got o Walmart instead" I write "at Wally's, hate it here!" arg.... I'm a word/grammar/English nut, shortening my words like that is really irritating.
I've tried the regular stock messaging app, GoSMS, Chomp, Handcent and something else, I can't remember off the top of my head what it was. Apparently it's not the app that's causing the issue. I've tried turning off wifi and just using the cell data, which didnt work.
Second, I am constantly getting a popup message that basically says Please wait while we prepare this application for it's first use. I can't get out of it while it's doing that, I just have to wait for the error message to appear.
Third, for some reason I can not connect my phone to my laptop so that I can back it up. My phone will charge while it's plugged into the USB port, so I know it's connected, but I can't see the phone on my laptop or the laptop on my phone. I've installed, uninstalled and re-installed the Samsung SIII drivers for Windows. I've tried Kies on my desktop, but it wont connect, neither by USB nor wireless. I can get to Kies Air, but I can't figure out how to do a backup from that angle. I've also tried Helium, which tells me to connect my device. This issue is a little worrisome, because sooner or later, I'm really going to wish I had my backed up!
I also have 2 questions ... since I'm not on Verizon any longer, are there any of the Verizon stock apps that I can safely uninstall, without damaging my phone? And, an sd card. I remember on my Ascend I could take out the sd card (at least, I think that's what it was!!) and put it into an adapter thing I bought, then plug that into my computer and do backups, etc that way. I can't figure out if this phone even has an sd card that I can take out like that. I dont see that any of my apps are available to move to the sd card, and the option to mount the sd card is greyed out, so do I even have one?
In spite of these problems, I really do love this phone. It is so much better than my previous phone, a Huawei Ascend. It sure would be nice if these issues could be fixed though, so here I am. Your help is appreciated, thank you in advance!!!

There's been some views but no replies. It's only been a day and we're heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, so perhaps people have other things to do that are keeping them away from the forums. I'm moving back to San Diego this weekend, so I completely understand being busy! I'll keep checking back, cuz if there's one thing that I know, I am not gonna stump xda-developers. Y'all are heralded at every Android help forum I've ever visited. Patiently waiting .... lol

It's not that we're stumped but the WOT is detracting. First, are you sure you actually have an i9300 international model? (The product number under the battery)

My guess would be judged by the OP this may be in the wrong forum .

Whatsapp Virus spreading?

Hello everyone,
I might have a big problem.
This morning I booted my HTC One M7 as usual, and when it finished booting it opened a browser tap with a fake whatsapp update. I closed the browser immediately, and five minutes after this, the exact same thing happened. I started thinking how this could happend, and honestly I have no clue. All my apps are from the play store, and I only download documents for school. I haven't even downloaded a new app in the last week, however 15+ of my apps aren't up to date.
I scanned my phone with malwarebytes and it couldn't find anything. I rebooted my phone after the scan, and the problem seems to be gone. I was telling this story to a friend of mine this afternoon, and my mother said that she experienced the same thing, just a couple hours before I experienced it. After further investigation, it wasn't exactly the same. When she opened whatsapp, it asked her to do a weekly back-up of her chats. At first, she closed whatsapp, but when it appeared again, she clicked yes. She wasn't very clear about this, so I don't know if it was a fake menu, or the real deal. I have also scanned her Moto g (2013), and it found no malware.
I don't know if this could be harmfull. Especially because my parents use their phones for mobile banking.
This is a screenshot of my HTC
It could easily have been done through whatsapp. Part of the reason most people have stopped using it. Viruses run rampant I'm just about all of Facebook apps. And no anti virus will find them as they are vastly different then normal viruses.

In the Netherlands literally everybody uses it, but it's good to know that this could indeed happen! Should I be worried about this, and what should I do when it returns?

Yeah I heard alot of people in Europe use it alot, here in the states almost no one uses it really except for kids. Most have moved to hangouts.
If I was you I would completely back up the device and then wipe everything and reflash the device.
Things like this will not be picked up by so called virus scanners.
I'am afraid that it is something like ShiftyBug (https://blog.lookout.com/blog/2015/11/04/trojanized-adware/). In the article it says that you have to install apps from third parties, but I have almost never done that. I have downloaded popcorntime in the past, but I have deletet it almost 6 months ago.
I'm afraid that if I reflash my device, that it will come back fairly soon. Is it possible that it has spread over my wifi network? Because of the fact that my mother got something similar on the same day.
But how do I know for sure that it is a virus? After I restarted my phone (12 hours ago), it hasn't shown up yet. Am I worried for nothing, or is there a big chances that I'm infected?
Thank you for all your replies!

The key word there is almost. If you reflash the device and it comes back then it maybe something that someopne else downloaded and was shared through your network. As you said your mother also saw it so I would go through her phone as well.
There are many apps out there that do this that are in the play store. So it is all a matter of being careful.
There is a chance. If it is big or not depends on how you use your device. It could also have come from a website someone visited. Im not saying you did but many porn sites are set to infect devices when they visit them.
If it was me. I would just start from scratch with each device and make sure that all the things installed are legit.
You could also run a logcat and try to reproduce it. That would tell you what is causing it.
Doesn't seem dangerous.

Then you have not been paying attention. Any browser pop that tells you to update an app is 99% an infected apk. It is a common practice for those that take apks and re-package them with malware
After reading more i must admit you are right.... My bad:good:
So I have to flash my phone, aren't there any other options? And if not, how do I reflash The HTC firmware to my phone?
Should I make a back-up before doing this, won't the malware spread again if I instal the back-up on my phone?
Thanks again!
EDIT:
Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to reproduce the problem.
I still haven't been able to reproduce the pop-up.
I do propably know where the problem came from, a friend of mine sent me a older version of soundcloud (the new one can't cache music). I installed that app, decided that it was to old for me and deleted it. The malware must have spread right after the first use. I'm planning on flashing my phone inthe weekend.
EDIT: I can reprodce the pop-up! It's linked to opening the app 'night mode', this app was downloaded in the official play store 2 years ago. Since then it hasn't got a lot of updates though.
Hey,
Time for a little update.
Last weekend, I contacted HTC's customer support due to the fact that I couldn't find my software version. They told me that I should execute a RUU, but they couldn't find the right version, so I had to contact the Dutch customer support (I didn't do this in the first place because the Dutch customer support wasn't open in the weekend).
The next monday (23-11) I contacted the Dutch customer support and asked them for the ROM, and unfortunately due to the regulations they don't publish the ROM's. However, they told me to do a factory reset and that should solve the issue. Unfortunately, it didn't. After the reset, I now get a different Whatsapp pop-up once or twice a day. The pop-up isn't connected to opening an app, like it was before the reset.
A friend of mine experienced the same problem this week on his new Moto X. All the other phones in my home network don't have this problem.
I hope someone will be able to help me!
Thanks in advance!

There's a chance that it might've spread over a certain network.... Is you and your moto x friend uses the same network ?

Yes, we both use the wifi network at our high school. But I did the factory reset friday evening, and since then I haven't connected to that network.
It might have spread through that network though.

Depending on the malware a factory reset will not remove it. In fact most malware cant be removed that way. You have to flash the whole device to get rid of it.

In my opinion after starting all over again as you've already been told, you should do all that you did before and monitor each step with patience and concentration to actually understand what's behind this... This may help out

As he said. Here is what I would do if I was in your place. Anyone got any extra steps to add feel free to chime in. This would kinda suck for a bit.
You will need a custom recovery. And a bit of time to set up
1. Take everything off device.
2. Format full device in recovery. Not factory reset. Format system, data, internal storage and both caches.
3. Flash complete stock firmware.
4. Get root before rebooting
5. Reboot, do not connect to wifi during set up. Do not restore anything.
6. Get Catlog from the play store and run it.
7. Then continue set up. Wifi and ect. Scan backed up files with a pc virus scan but only return what you really need.
8. When restoring from TIBU install apps fresh from the market and restore data only to apps. (sucks I know but only way to be sure) make sure to delete old back and redo.
Then monitor catlog. This will tell you everything going on. You would be able to figure it out.
