thinking about BestBuy trade in? - HTC EVO 3D

It looks like most Retailers are accepting trade ins on most electronics. This could help out with the purchase of your non upgrade purchase or make your upgrade almost free! I also looked and radioShack, Best Buy, Ebay instant sale, and Amazon below you will see the current (as of 5/23) trade in values.
-----------
best buy offers $132 on a gift card. http://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/
------------
Radio shack currently offers $179 Gift Card, for a used EVO 4G in great condition, $155 in good condition. Radio Shack Trade And Save
------------
Ebay has a instant trade value if $223 Cash PayPAL required http://green.ebay.com/instantsale/
------------
Amazon has a trade in of up to $114 currently, and they just give you a girft card. Amazon Trade In Program
------------
Sprint offers $150 credit on your bill for the EVO 4G Sprint Buy Back Program

Looks like you have to mail it in to Best Buy for the gift card which says it takes 7-14 days after receiving the item. If you were able to do it in store that would be cool and I would probabaly think about doing it depending the the 3d price.
Anybody know if it can be done it store?

there is a drop down near the bottom of the page that lists states, find your state then select your city, It turns out the bestbuy I pre-ordered at is a trade in center.

did a little shopping around and it appears that radio shack is offering $179 trade in for the evo 4g in excellent condition, $155 for good condition, and ebay has a instant sale program where $188 for a evo in great condition.
Im going to pre-order at the shack today because they actually know what they are doing when it comes to account management. the best buy pre order I was told is refundable. but either way I will be selling my evo using one of these programs.

So If the price is $199 (when I use my upgrade) minus the 139, minus the $50 pre-order gift card = $10 on launch day.

Plus sales tax on full price... at least where I live.

Im going to be doing the same thing. I did that with my pre when I got the evo. The thing is once the evo 3d is out evo 4g prices will drop on ebay. I know I can get a bit more like 180 for the evo but it just easy to trade it in at best by for 150 and get a new phone for 50 bucks. cant beat that. I only paid 40 bucks for my evo so either way a new phone for 50 bucks is great.

Amazon does trade-in's now too:
EVO 4G trade-in
currently up to 209 bucks... i'm sure it will drop over time though... I know best buy's trade in was 175 bucks a week or so ago

Do you guys really think price will be $199? Im thinking $149
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

I think its going to be 199 and sprint gives you 149.99 for the evo right now not sure what it will be when evo 3d comes out though

So i went into my local Radio Shack and asked about the trade in program and the guy said yes "we do participate in the program but honestly why would you want to do that, Ill give you $200 for the phone right now" he looked at the phone and determined that it was in the good quality bracket. and would be able to give me $155 in store credit. he said to get the $177 it cant show any wear at all. and mine shows wear by the hdmi/charge ports. other than that its been in an otterbox.
Sprint just gives you a $150 credit on your bill. Im not sure if you can put the new phone on your bill.
also anyone know If I can use my %25 employee discount on new equipment purchase?

Can't use the discount for phone purchases.
The last couple of times I ordered through telesales they billed me Sprint account. Not sure if you need to meet a certain criteria for that though.

I wonder if RS is going to reduce their trade in value to $100 like it says in that "leaked" ad, from the current $179 trade in value. If so I might go in a day or 2 early and get the $179 on the gift card and then go in the next day and purchase the evo 3D.

Does sprint have it where you can make payments, if you buy it at full price?

I have been told that if you order over the phone, You can have the phone billed to your account. And I have heard that it could be split into 4 billing cycles. but I would call to make sure.

preordering thoughts

so there are now a few places to preorder this phone:
Best Buy: $150 for a mint evo
Sprint: Taking orders on 21st for premier members (might net you an extra day or two with the phone)
Radio Shack: $75 smartphone buyback good for multiple smartphones.
Target: $150 for the evo
Wirefly: Sale price is $179.99 (ships out on the 24th though)
BUT. I'll be ordering from radio shack out of principle. Regardless of whether the leaked ads were intentionally done or not, they were the ones that are responsible for letting me know the release date.
also wondering.. what is the best place to preorder for a new customer?
not sure that it matters to much, as an X sprint rep I'll be buying from my buddy, they work hard and deserve the commission, not like your paying any extra for them to get paid.
Altho I do believe Best Buy may waive/not have new activation fee's and or upgrade fee's
as far as mail in rebates go, last time I checked sprint has moved to instant rebates, we'll see if that continues.
I ordered my EVO 3D from Wirefly. They have the phone for $179.99 (with free shipping, + $7.99 for 2-day) and with BoA add-it-up you get $50 cashback. So even paying extra for 2-day shipping, my cost will be $137.98 after cashback. They don't charge tax to CA, so that is a huge saving (in CA we get charged tax on full, unsubsidized phone cost). I can wait a few extra days to get it for the large savings and I ordered my original EVO from Wirefly and had no problems.

That's a great deal! I just checked, and they don't charge tax for me either. but be wary of this part:
By accepting this Instant Savings Discount, you agree to repay $200 of this discount ($300 for smartphones and netbooks) and authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of this amount if, you signed up for a 2 year agreement and during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, Sprint notifies us that the services you purchased have been suspended, disconnected, or deactivated, or if you return your purchase outside of the return and exchange provisions of our 30-day Satisfaction Guarantee.
If you're not sure ur going to be staying with sprint, you may get stuck with sprint's ETF and wirefly's $300.

It is the Bank of America Add-it-up program. If you have a BoA CC or bank account you register on the site for the program. Access the wirefly site via the BoA site and you get $50 cashback credited to you.

Yep sales rep said the Pre counts.
Apparently according to this thread Target will buy your old EVO 4G for $150. Thats $50 more than Radio Shack is willing to cough up for my EVO.
I dunno a $50 EVO 3D sounds real nice about now.

I feel like selling the evo outright on craigslist will net you much more than the $100-150 credit you may get. Why are people willing to trade it in for so cheap?

Hate to break it to you , but I'm sure the shack is thrilled. But That leaked info didn't so much come from corporate saying "Hey this is what they want lets give it to them.", as much as it came from an employee, who like us wanted to know and was kind enough to release it for us.
I don't think RS had anything to do with it and much as a few that WORK for them did.
Pre-ordered at bestbuy like last year with the og evo and was wondering if anyone knows if they're throwing in any bonuses like last year with the bluetooth headseat that I've never used. Haha
Best buy is the easy way to go.If you pre order on the 21st you will get it on the 23rd or 24th plus when you get it the hassle of calling in and having them activate a phone they do not think is even out yet.
Best buy pre order 50$ plus if you decide you do not want it full refund of the 50$ not GIFT CARD TO KEEP LIKE SPRINT!!!
id go with them or radio shack.

[TIPS] Where are YOU going to buy your Evo 3D?

Sprint and target are offering 150 for used evo 4g, which isn't really a bad deal if you're evo is bad condition, but if yours is in good condition you can easily get 200, probably 250, and a slight chance at 300 if you post at the right time and include the right stuff.
Now there's also radioahack who is offering a whopping 100 for your evo. Like I said above if yours is in good condition go with Craig's or eBay, if not go with target or sprint. $100 ? Really radio shack?
Last of all is best buy. I'm not quite sure about there buy back program but its probably similar
Edit: wirefly is also sellin it right now for 179.99, but according to user RDCRDS, they ill jack I up to 300 if you switch the phone to another line. So for those upgrading your mom/brother/daughters lines, don't go through wirefly.
If you decide to sell your Evo through inline services, I highly recommend starting with craigslist. There are no fees or taxes, but the buyers are usually cheap compared to eBay buyers. With eBay you get a larger customer base and your item will sell for more, BUT and this a big but, sir mix-a-lots type of butt, eBay and PayPal combined, charge an arm and leg for their services. Those fees can be paid back with in 30 days so you can take them out of ur next paycheck to make your self feel better.
Heres a link to an eBay and PayPal fee calculator. If your start your item at 100 and it sells for 270 plus 10 shipping and handling, your total fees will be about 35 bucks
Once you sell, I recommend buying from sprint if the instant rebate service they're offering is still available at the time of launch. The tax charged on these phones is based on the full retail price and sprint usually has the cheapest out of all of the others.
I personally will be buying fromnbest buy because I put 50 bucks down on may 5th to pre order mine through that "secret pre order" thing they were doing.
So where are you guys going to buy from?

I think this is a pointless thread and is really irrelevant based upon the title. Ill humor you though. ATM im going with Best Buy but if sprint expands their new activation credit from another carrier thing that gives you $125 off the phone then it will be Sprint and the Sprint store I am near is not doing Pre-orders.

Much better thread then the another released date one.
So what you are saying is if Best Buy sells the phone for an extra $100 then everyone else, say $599, that is the price I will be paying tax on? Do you have to pay the tax on the full price of the device anywhere you go? If that is the case, I wish I didn't put $50 down at BB because that just seems wrong!
Can someone confirm this is how it works....

Its to what YOU pay. Lets say sprint is the only one that gave an instant rebate and all other places you have to mail it in. $200-50=150*1.07(for 7%)=$160.50 vs 200*1.07=214-50=164. OK so the difference is 164-160.5=$3.50. So it costs you
roughly a gallon of gas. Nothing to fret about. Also Best Buy has reward zone stuff and well the people that work there usually aren't as dumb as the people that work in a sprint store.
Also in reference to your $100 more that would cost you $7 in tax. Basically take the difference and multiply it by your tax. add the 1 in front of the decimal to add the tax or add a 0 to find out how much the tax is.

I understand the math but thought I would be paying the tax on $200 and not on $600 from Best Buy. So it is actually $400 more then I ws expecting to pay tax on and we are about .0875% here. If you trade in your device, do they give you the tax for it like when you trade in a car?
when I preordered mine at best buy the guy who rang me up told me that the gift card is refundable. I'm pretty sure bsed on past experience that best buy is going to charge 599 for full retal and sprint is going to charge 499. So pretty much you're looking at a 10 dollar dfference if the tax rate in your area is 10%! 50-60 dollars.
Wow that's pretty much the 50 down payment

and i should get no later then the 23rd.
im gona get mine at best buy because in oregon i can get a real deal. probobly around 250 with my 2 year upgrade in september
I already purchased two from wirefly. 179.99 no tax, free shipping and 50 bucks off when used with my BofA add it up. I might have to wait a few extra days after launch but I am patient. So out the door 129.99. This is of course upgrade price.
I went in to Sprint to preorder mine today. This is a corporate store and I asked about the mail in rebate, he told me they are going to be using mail in rebates again with the EVO 3D. He may not have been right, but I do remember when Sprint stopped mail in rebates they said it would be temporary.

I have read elsewhere on here that Best Buy charged people tax on the total cost of the phone. I have no reason to disbelieve these people but that was not my experience. When I purchased my evo from BB last year, I was only charged tax on what I actually paid for the phone. I'm not complaining but I do wonder why this is not uniform all over.

It depends on the state. From what I've read, that's how it works in California. Stores don't get to decide how they charge sales tax on items people buy...state/local government does that for them and they just pass it along to us .

That's only if you order online I think. I recently upgraded one of my lines and had to pay the $18 'upgrade fee'. I tried a couple times to get them to credit it back since I've never had to pay an activation fee because of my work discount, but they just told me their policies changed and it was a 'valid' fee lol. They said the only time it was not charged was online orders only. I can activate/switch as many phones as I want using the online activation thing and not get charged...but having the guy at the store punch in a few numbers costs me $18.
Just Bought mine from WireFly moments ago, $179.99 Free Shipping.
Wirefly is ok but if you have a problem with the phone it is 100% harder to get it fixed replaced because they do not have local stores.
For 20$ more ill go with best buy.Plus if in 5 months if you take the phone off that line they can hit you up for 300$

[Q] amazon and the $125 "move your number to sprint" offer

I'm currently with t-mobile and am planning to switch to sprint, and I want to get the $125 they offer for switching:
www.sprint.com/landings/portcredit/?ECID=vanity:switchtosprint-
(sorry, I can't post links yet).
What I'm trying to figure out is if buying the evo 3d at amazon for $180 will make me ineligible. (See the fine-print at the bottom of the sort-of linked page).
The offer is a simple
Just bring your number from another carrier to Sprint and activate a smartphone, like the Samsung Epic 4G, on a new line between 5/4/2011 and 7/23/2011 and we'll give you a $125 service credit.

But the text that concerns me is
This offer is only available online, via telesales, and in participating Sprint Stores. Purchases from other retailers are not eligible for this credit. Requires port in from an active wireless line and mobile number that comes through the port process to a new line on an eligible Sprint service plan.

Two reasons I was planning to buy at amazon:
$20 less than the sprint price
they're offering an "activation-fee credit" of $36 (I didn't go all the way through the ordering process at sprint, but I assume they would be charging me $36 to activate as a new customer)
Any tips on what's the best way to sign up without missing any deals? As near as I can tell, signing up through wirefly was going to result in me being charged the $36 activation fee too (and no idea if they'd try to deny my $125 for switching to sprint).
$125 > $36+ $20 + tax
So go with Sprint.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
they only give you that deal if you port your number over from tmobile, and sometimes they can wave the activation fee, if you sign up right then
I switched over from T-horrible and doing it a Sprint store is better. When they port your number you lose your T-mobile services so if you have your 3D shipped through amazon you won't have a phone until it arrives at your house. Do it at the Sprint store and if you have to get on the waiting list you will be okay. Just do like I did and get a EVO 4G for $150 plus buy the gift card to get on the waiting list for the next shipment to come in. Use the 30 day satisfaction deal and when your phone comes in trade it out for your 3D. With the gift card you have already paid for the price of the phone. Also baby your Evo 4G any scratches or scrapes and they may not take it back.

HTC EVO 4G LTE @ BestBuy

Anyway...
Seems that just in the last hour or so, BestBuy has put up this page:

Looks like I can get to bestbuy, use my bestbuy card, and pre-order after all. It was beginning to seem that Bestbuy was not doing pre-orders.
Good news good news!

I was just about to order from best buy, but I did a web chat with CSR and asked about 50$ gift card. He said that's only in-store. That's fine with me, as I only shop brick and mortar, but thought others may wanna know.

that regular price seems a bit steep. hopefully i can get the discount
what benefits are there to pre ordering with Best Buy? based from past experience, it assures you a phone at launch, but for the same price wouldn't you just pre order with Sprint and get it a couple days earlier(potentially)? unless you have a gift card or something
I know with the OG Evo and pre ordering thru radio shack, the nice part was radio shack processed the 100$ rebate in-store. I didn't have to mail the rebate in and wait 2mo for it in the mail. But, that may not be relevant anymore, as it appears the rebate is pre-processed with online sales.
That said, waiting for rebate in mail can be good, too. With my diamond, I got a rebate for 400 something dollars. Somehow the rebate center thought it was for 4 devices. Nice surprise in the mail, that's for sure.

Hate to say it, but you got ripped off my friend. Or maybe not. For this launch, BB doesn't require the downpayment (at least they didn't for me or anyone else I talked to - might be a regional thing though). All BB preorders get a $50 gift card without the downpayment, which you'll recieve when you purchase the phone. This gift card can then be used towards the cost of the phone - bringing the cost of the phone down to $150 if preordered at BB. Having said that, hopefully you'll still revive the extra $50 gift card when you go in to buy the phone.
Keep things on topic no Flame Wars

NO MONEY was given.
they asked if im upgrading, zip, email, name, and printed out a sheet of paper detailing my reserved phone. they'll email me when its there.
they also give you a printout of available accessories for the phone on release date, otter case, n some other chit.
i guess i'll pay for it when it gets there, they said the gift card is given if you trade in your EVO. i was like, nahh. i was one of 2 people @ 2pm. (edit, sounds like bestbuys arent on the same page)
i dont think many people are excited about this phone or know about it.
either way, cool with me, saves me money until it arrives.
i wanted to walk out with that asus transformer prime/or t300
theyre speculating 18th, friday release too.
Same here. Just walked out of best buy. No money exchanged hands. No gift card. Just a paper reservation. Which has the wrong name in it, I noticed halfway home. A diff line/name/number on my family plan. Need to get this sorted out. They were selling Evo 4gs for 99$. I was surprised to see that. Almost got one for my mom for mothers day. But I'm thinking galaxy nexus for her. That way if Evo never gets flash friendly, I'll just trade her phones lol

Well if that's the case, I didn't get screwed over. I just bought myself a gift card. Which I don't really see the point in but at least I didn't have to pay for the whole phone right there.
I also got the "no gift card, no money exchanged" version of the pre-order at BB.
Do I have to get insurance with BB if I want insurance, or can I still get it elsewhere? Any suggestions?

the original evo 4g release at best buy was a joke.
sprint systems were bogged making activation an hourly issue, bestbuy was allowing later numbered people skip.
i hope this time around its a little more smooth.

mine was down payment. Paid $50 for a giftcard which I could then use to pay down the phone. Wasn't until recently that I read that you also get another $50 giftcard upon activation of the phone. I don't see it as a ripoff though, $50 is pocket change to me.

That's not a very flattering statement. But regardless, I would love some of your pocket change if it is so insignificant to you. Most people would have their day made if they found $50 on the street.
Similar experience at BB. Info given at 6 pm, got my paper, no money exchanged. 2nd in line (woman next to me was 1st), Will receive e-mail when it's in. Will cost 50$ to get the phone assuming im trading in my Evo. Through Sprint it would have cost me around 130$ or more depending on how much value the Evo loses over the next few days. No brainer there.

preorded today instore at best buy
no deposit (per the email they looked at in the system)
filled out paperwork just like i would on a normal upgrade
got confirmation (email and physical)
left my phone number and time i expected to pick it up (assuming it stays on 5/18 launch)
I didn't ask about $50 wireless freedom or $50 preorder, but that right there should drive price to $100, then add in $10 Google Wallet and possibly $50+ in trade in.
well done

How's that not flattering? Used to be a time when nice cellular phones weren't owned by everyone. I don't necessarily miss that. People have their priorities so far out of whack, it is absurd. If $50 is a lot of money to someone maybe they shouldn't be dropping $4000+ a year on cellular services and its accompanying toys.
Hell I commented on a post earlier about a guy taking no interest financing for 18 months on a sub $500 tablet. A lot of what is wrong with the current economy in the US. People living beyond their means. Feeling entitled. Always having to get the latest and greatest. Saddens me
I bought 2 for $250 shipped no tax. Considered paying for express shipping, but that would have negated my good deal by $40.

I completely agree with your comments about living our of their means. I also agree that this country is messed up that way. I am a teacher in a high school just outside of Chicago, and while 80% of my students are on free or reduced lunch, 100% of them own a cell phone (and about 80% are smartphones from my estimation). I find this to be both disturbing and indicative of our messed up system.
Anyway, I just didn't feel that flaunting the insignificance of x dollar amount was real classy. Maybe it was to make a larger point, to me it came off as very smug. I don't care how rich you are, saving $50 if the option is present should mean something to you, in my opinion.

Cheapest Price for the Evo 4G LTE?

I am impatiently waiting to get my hands on this beast! I have made friends with the store manager at my local Radio Shack. He said that they could match any price, anywhere! At one point, Wirefly had them for $119 but sadly that's gone. Bestbuy has the $199 plus the gift card. I have $200 in hand. Where shall I go?
Went to the Sprint store the other day. Got talking to a rooter sales guy. Sprint has a buy back program. He said $99 for the EVO 3D (I paid ~$55), $55 for my iPhone 3G (not even worth having it's so slow, my 4 year old would rather play with a broken nextel then the working iPhone), plus the $150 for new 2 year upgrade agreement and the $200 istant savings puts me right around $60. Hopefully I can use my preferred members discount to knock off the activation fee.
Walmart for 149.99, that's probably the cheapest place that has the phone in stock right now. If you count the gift card on Best Buy then same deal.
Best buy, $50 gc + 5000($100) rewardzone points with 2yrs agreement of course. Even less if you have a trade in phone.

Thats what I plan to do, but at my BB they told me their running a promo if you trade in an EVO its a $50 card plus value of the phone and I also have the $50 for the phone freedom....So -$50-100, if all goes as they say I'll let you know in the morning
I was considering BB but since the phone is no longer available for pre-order I'd miss out on that $50. I wish I hadn't trusted WireFly so much and just pre-ordered as a backup plan. Now I'm trying to decide if waiting another week is worth paying $100 for it or not.
I haven't seen where you get $50 for activating a new phone and I know the $50 pre-order GC is gone now.. But if that activation one is good I basically pay $150 OOP and get $100 in credit on my RZ account bringing it down to $50 after everything. Not bad..

Isn't that the deal that was available for preorders? I think the OP is referring to what's the best deal now since the phone is technically available in stores as of today. I'm still trying to figure it out myself. And as another thread said you cant combine the best buy reward zone points AND get the $50 gift card. I think walmart $150 sounds like the best no hassle deal as of now.
