So since we can make stock ROMs for the Atrix, wouldn't it be possible to make a stock Android 2.2 ROM?
Your post makes no sense. First of all, we can't make stock ROMs and don't have any for the Atrix, or at least not yet. And second, this phone already has 2.2, so even if we had a stock ROM for the Atrix, it already would be 2.2.

You clearly don't know anything about Android. First off, the Atrix doesn't have a Stock Android 2.2 ROM.... its running MotoBlur. Stock Android is just plain Android without the skin. Just like it was on the Nexus One.
And there is already one ROM.
Now, before you post some more stupid sh*t. Think.

Didn't someone make a ROM already? I know that one isn't stock but I'm guessing we are on the right track.

Yeah: Adeo v0.1 ROM
With that being made its suppose to be possible to make strait up stock Android ROMs that we see in the Nexus S and the Nexus One.

Lol, that'll never happen. Not until the bootloader is cracked, and that will be a long time from now, if ever.

@ di11igaf - do you think its possible that when (and i know it will be some time) android 2.3 is released for the Atrix that it will be released with an unlocked bootloader? Could this possibly be our ONLY hope for now? A long shot and a pipe dream... ?

I know it doesn't have a stock android ROM. You said "So since we can make stock ROMs for the Atrix"...NOBODY HAS OR MADE A STOCK ROM FOR THE ATRIX.
You seem to think so, you're WRONG. Yes, there is a "ROM" for the Atrix (it's not really a ROM, or what your thinking of at least but technically yes it is a ROM) but it is not a "stock" ROM. So anyways, you're an idiot that thinks you know what your talking about, and you don't. Go read up on some stuff so your not an asshole to other users when they are just trying to explain something.
I think both of you should take this argument into pvt conversation and keep it out of the forum... have some respect for other members...
Yea you're right, sorry. But yea I'm just going to quit now I guess, no need to waste my time in a pvt conversation.

i wouldnt count on it. maybe if motorola realizes its not a good idea to screw developers and people who actually want use android the way we should be able to, since it is open source and not an iphone, but thats just wishful thinking. i wish everyone who was unhappy about the bootloader situation would return the phone or not buy it instead of saying ya, the bootloader things sucks, but other than that i love the phone(and i do like the phone, but im not keeping it for this reason), and let them know why. im sure there will be quite a few who do return it for this reason(me), but most people will mention that they hope its cracked, but theyll keep the phone.
and moto will keep doing it if they keep selling phones, and maybe if their flagship phones start to fail and this was a reason, they will reconsider giving us a way to unlock it, but this is about as unlikely as the bootloader being cracked

Hey guys,
I'm on the lookout for a good kernel.
Which kernel you you say is the best for my needs?
Need:
Over-/Underclockable
Over-/Undervolt
GPU renedring
GPU Over-/Underclock
small and compact
Dualboot would be nice aswell, as I am trying to stay stock, but yet I am making a custom ROM... (Both with root)
If you could help me, I would be greatful...
And, maybe you could also give me a few tips, on where to code Android on a Windows Machine, Linux isn't really my cup of tea, you see...
But, it really needs to be flashable via Odin(because the Siyah recovery isn't all that good, but I don't want to downgrade, just get a complete new kernel)

Actually the Siyah recovery is the same one that Hyperdroid stock kernel uses as well and i have not had any complaints with it so far. And another thing. No point me telling you what kernel to go because what might work for me might not work for you.

I think you bought the wrong phone if you are waiting for WP7 to come to the galaxy s2 as it is a totally different operating system and no way it can be ported over. So you might as well sell your phone now and go and buy a Nokia Lumnia if you do not like android and want WP7.
So what you just mentioned above the only kernel that i would recommend is Siyah. But you have to give it at least a few days or a week to actually get the full benefit of a kernel not a day or two. But anyway down to you i just thought i give you my opinion. Best of luck anyway

So far in the last hour you've made a thread claiming to stop the custom binary counter increasing, a thread claiming you can root your phone by typing "adb root", and now this.
Today is a new low.

Hello everyone I am new to Android world as of today. I've been on iPhone for the past 2 years and honestly apple has nothing compared to Android. My galaxy note is like a handheld computer... like holy s**t I'm so overwhelmed right now. But as a noobie I do have a couple questions...
Is it worth rooting and flashing a custom ics ROM (what's the best ics ROM to date) when my service provider Telus is releasing ics by early July?
Also, is it possible for me to download the official ics via ota with a rooted phone? If so how do I do that. I've read threads that sometimes rooting disables ota download.
Thanks for looking and I apologize for being a dumba**.

Are you new to android? Then experience your android phone as it is without rooting just yet. As you experience your phone and read some threads you will get to know if rooting is for you or not. This also will allow you to see if your phone may have issues.
If you want the OTA Telus ICS then I suggest you don't root. I don't believe you would receive the OTA unless you were stock unrooted. So my suggestion would be to hang in there for a little time.
Welcome, and congratulations on seeing the light!
The ICS roms we have are awesome so far, with only a couple random bugs that don't keep them from being daily drivers. I definitely recommend rooting and romming if you take the time to read up on everything you can about it. It's a very simple process if you take your time, and definitely worth learning.
Also, if you feel like doing the official update get familiar with how to go back to stock. When you go back to stock, it renews your warranty and also your ability to receive official firmware updates.
Personally, I think that custom roms are better than official, and once your official is released, you will be able to get a rooted version on here within a day out two at most usually. The only time my Samsung phones have ever had stock software is the first and only the first day I have them, and also if I need to do a warranty exchange
Edit: not seeing a stock package for Telus, stop I would hold on for a bit or try to work with a developer to get them what they need to set up a stock Odin package for Telus users.
Second edit: actually it looks like there is a stock package for you. I can help more with some links later, but can't right now

Welcome to the best phone world you can imagine and you made a wise choice to pick up the big boss aka the G note...youll love it stock or rooted and with customs roms on it....this community is the best and has some great devs also any rom you choose your gonna love their rom believe me....Ive been to here and went to the htc one x and to the international note and now im back to stay....those other phones couldnt compare to this one...the international note is brick heaven and the htc one x is just too damn small when your coming from a note lol....but if you love having your phone tweaked out like me then yes root and rom it out lol...but if all that doesnt matter than you can stay stock and still love the phone just as much....but once again wise choice on the phone and glad to have you here....
Please make yourself familiar with the phone first like everybody else suggested. I have gone through few android phones and I still have so much to learn especially when it comes to rooting and loading roms. With samsung, there's a flash counter if you care about warranty and what not even though there are ways to go around it. I have rooted mine but staying on the stock rom and waiting for the official ICS rom. GB rom is perfectly working fine for my needs.
Please read and read over and over everything before you go ahead and mess around with the rom.

There is a flash counter reset, so that's basically a null point. Plus, many people have had no problem returning or exchanging with it tripped.

Yes. I know there is. That's why I said there are ways to go around. I have rooted mine with the one roloracer posted and can use CWM to flash all different roms without even tripping the flash counter to begin with. One less step of needing to reset the counter.
I just want OP to be aware of it.

Welcome Android! The Note is my first Android phone. I also came from iPhone and don't regret the move at all. Note is the best overall phone experience I've had.
This is sort of on topic, is there a comparison thread of the different roms and what they have to offer vs. others? That kind of thread might be really helpful for new and seasoned pros.

just know that you will lose a lot of the S-pen and all Touchwiz capabilities if/when you go with any version of cm9, aokp, or aosp.
I'd stock with GB for a few weeks so you can get used to the menu interfaces and lingo surrounding Android. After that, game on!
Welcome to Android, friend.
Normally, when I first buy a phone, I like to play around with it stock for a few months before flashing the radio or switching roms etc. Just to get familiar with the phone. Since you're new to the whole Android platform, you should definitely get used to it first since there are endless possibilities you can play around with even with a stock rom.
An official ICS 4.0.3 has already been confirmed for release, why not wait for it? An official update will always be 100% safer and run a lot smoother.
This is what I recommend and I am going to be patiently waiting for the ICS 4.0 to officially be released. It's just a matter of time.
How many times have we seen a user new to android/note that root, flash, and ATTEMPT to reset the flash counter only to come to this board crying that their phone is bricked? (one or two a month?)
As others said, if you root/flash, when Ice Cream Sandwich becomes available from your carrier, you will not get it.
If you do root/flash, DON'T worry about the flash counter because if something goes wrong with reseting the flash counter, you might have a brick but most likely several hours of panic/frustration trying to get your phone working.

Its more so a new user to xda thing as I see it. Yes, its partially a new to android thing, but if they learned how to search and read and learn everything they can, all of the info is out there to safely do anything. I had one brick way back when with my captivate, and from that point on I made sure to read as much as possible before doing anything. New users think they will just have everything handed to them and it will work perfectly, which is where they run into problems because they don't know of all the common problems and mistakes due to taking the fast track instead of actually learning about the processes.
Bottom line is they need to not only search and read, but also absorb and understand the material that is available on this site.

My advise would be to wait at least a month, do your research, stay on top of the forums, read all the important threads, etc. When I moved over from iPhone I waited about a month and even though it is soooo much easier to root an Android then jailbreaking an iPhone, its just means its that much more easier to make mistakes. Take your time, don't rush it Welcome to the dark side.
Hey XDA,
I got my S3 at launch, and ever since I've seen some great Jelly Bean roms coming out I've been tempted to flash one on. My only problem is that I'll be losing S Beam, Smart Stay and Direct Call.
Just wondering if anyone who has already done so can give me some advice on weather it's worth it? Weather the Jelly Bean features outweigh the built in ones or not? Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Samsung is almost ready testing Jellybean for the S3, it will come out in about 6-8 weeks officialy. Maybe some leaked roms will pop up at Sammobile soon. If you only want to root for Jellybean i would not do it and wait for a little while.
If you want those features stock with Samsung based roms and wait for the official jelly, in the meantime check out a few custom s Samsung roms to keep the flash addiction happy
There's a few reasons I'd flash one of these roms on it. #1 being I for some reason am a massive vanilla android fan, and #2 being that I live in Australia and it will probably take them an extra 6 months to bring the official update here after it's released. Although, I did get the "Stability Improvement" update last weekend, a few weeks off the rest of the world, is that an indication of future updates being that quick also?
Thanks for your replies and I look forward to continue this thread to help me decide. One part of me is thinking how hard is it to touch the screen to stop it from sleeping, press a button to call someone, or use bluetooth to transfer files bigger than web pages. The other is saying what's the point of getting the latest and greatest smartphone to get rid of it's advertised features?
I think ultimately the answer is just flash it and if you don't like them just restore your nandroid! I've got 4 now, of different roms/kernels ....it's like having quad boot!

if you root then you can create a nandroid backup(complete system image) so I try different roms, if I like one I set it all up then do a nandroid, so if I want to try other roms and come back I just restore it, but now that this will lose your data between making that original nandroid and returning to it

Everyone's situation is different, hence why I'm asking. Also, I'm not "demanding" anything, I'm simply asking people who have already done what I'm thinking an opinion, and even developers can explain what the pros of using their software compared to stock if they so desire. I may be new to these forums, but I've been a part of the Android community since it's release so I don't appreciate being treated like a so called "noob" when if you calm down, sit back and think about it I have not broken any rules, and I posted it in Questions and Answers not the Development section so this is also the correct section.
To the other people who actually cared to share their opinion, thanks, and I think I'll give a few custom roms a go.

Nevertheless, you can compare your questions with other questions and answer them. Be it here or in other forums.
Because I do not think your question is "unique" and can not be answered with another question that has already been asked.
You must simply enter your title in Google and then you'll find massive pages, where the same or similar question has been answered.
Why I am so upset about it? I have already explained in my text.

This is not exactly a whats best rom post its asking is JB reliable enough to install; as its a not yet released firmware .Plus featureless lost .
Simple solution for whats the best rom posts is to report to a mod let them decide .
Personally i would not report this as its not a whats best rom post .
But OP i would actually wait for JB release from Samsung .

I just had a client hand me about 10 of these tablets and ask me to make them faster. No problem I said (having been an android user since the days of G1 and currently have over 15 different android devices in the house I didn't think it would be a big deal).
After spending days trying to get Cypher ROM to boot I thought I'd look around for a different one. I'll be damned if I can find a ROM that's not at least 6 months old on here.
So I guess I'm asking the hated question "which ROM will give me the best performance and all features working?" Sorry but I've been looking and can't find anything promising so I'm asking you guys.
What are you currently using on your HTC View 4G's that works well?

Do you have a link to the stock gingerbread that you are speaking of? Don't want to flash the wrong one.
