Help program memory - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HKWWE HD2, with JP winnls hacked in.
Generally if I open opera + email, I can't open any other programs. eg albums will say no memory can't open.
Settings will show 203mb program memory free and 70mb storage free
I can open fewer programs than on my old 32ram phone.
Installed are spb mob shell, pocket plus, phone suite

I don't know if it has to do with the pagepool, but you can always try a different ROM.

Are you using a 3.14 based rom without 3.03.hspl? 3.14 roms mess up the ram with any other spl/hspl.

I'm using retail shipped rom, but seriously considering android/wm7 now if only i had time to find a tomtom replacement

Doesn't really answer my question, if the rom you are running is a 3.14 rom and you flashed it whilst (example) your spl was 2.08.hspl, then it will mess with stability and available ram.

Get control of flash memory

I am using an O2 XDA I installing XDA-developers. I am so confused of how to manage with the Flash memory. The XDA-developers has many programs that maybe lower the speed, and I just want to delete some. Please help!!!
Thanx
Only s/w in RAM may slow the speed ... any s/w in ROM doesn't count
Thanks, And another question: Sometime I can not delete a file (eg: Arial.ttf) nor uninstall a s/w. Is there any solution?
manythanks
if it's in the rom then you cant
rom mean read only memory
and much of the os is placed there
a xda1 have 64MB ram and 32MB rom the rom cant be used to place stuff in at run time and the device cant use it as work memory

HELP, memory is way low and cant uninstall

Hey all, need some help. For some reason I am not able to uninstall some apps. I get a message saying it cannot be uninstalled but would I like it to still be removed from the app list. Example, I have PocketCM 2.0 and 2.1 both installed and listed on my apps list, but I cannot uninstall the 2.0 version. (or the new one for that matter cause I tried that as well)
My memory sits at:
MAIN
Storage
total 166.41
used 73.66
free 94.74
program
total 46.00
used 41.14
free 4.86
I need to remove some apps, but cannot. Also, is there some special trick to remove apps installed on the storage card rather than main memory? And do the apps installed on the storage card effect in any way the program storage on the main memory?
I am runnign DCD 2.3.2, does anyone recommend moving up to a new ROM thats stable and clean?
Thanks!
Hopefully you have enough RAM free to install a util such as dotFred's Task Manager to then run and close running processes.
Your problem is that you are attempting to run too many apps at once. You have to learn to conserve RAM and only run what is necessary.
Beyond that, you are using what's now considered a rather dated OS ROM so the timing may be good to choose/build another for your phone.

Agreed. Flash new radio and rom and then install cabs to your new preferences. I do the same with my laptop once a year and they last much longer, run much faster, and are more reliable. It also forces you to do backups on your files.

Light ROM vs. fully loaded ROM question

I know i have seen this mentioned before but in running a search never found a definitive thread on it...so forgive me if this is redundant.
Its my understanding that the same rom build but one being loaded with as many programs as the partition will allow vs. the same rom build with most extra programs taken out should have no noticeable impact on performance as long as you use the task manager to only allow the same essential programs to load at bootup. the down side of a 'light' rom is if you want to add programs later it will not be installed in the partition with the rom....even if there is space..it will take away from storage space.
My question is, if my above assumptions are correct, why do people want light roms? why not have one loaded up with all that can fit...no matter if your talking 2.1 or 3.5 (3.5 giving more space for roms due to the partition being moved).
thanks
Why installing many non needed applications isn't a good idea in ANY PC?
Because..... startup loading .dll, services, reading BIG registry file, crowded windows directory slow down the PC, decreasing available resources and memory.
A WM6 ROM is a swiss knife! Many things, to answer to all user needs... but I have mine . SO you can chose the fast way, flashing a lite rom, of the hardest way (mine), flashing a FULL rom and stopping non needed services, avoid loading uneeded dlls... The same things the chef does before releasing a lite rom . This is the hardest way, you have to know deeply WM6 structure, using a light rom is the easiest way

Stop, stop, stop
My rom is really full, and isnt slower then light roms.
hehe!
There is a difference in available memory with the different SPLs, spl1.2 gives you more storage memory than spl3.5.
That said......
when a rom is loaded with programs it sometimes gives a user problems to install a new build of a said program that was loaded in rom. When you install a newer build and then try to uninstall it you might end up with a "hanged" device (this happened to me multiple times), and the only way to not see that wait cursor is to soft reset, and after soft reset, the program is still there in "remove programs", and if you try to run it after soft reset it won't run, and if you try to install it again you will get the message that the program is already installed and you have to remove it first and when you try to remove it again your device is stuck with the wait cursor again.........after all this, the only way to remove this program that you can't use anymore is to do a hard reset.
this happened to me too many times, this doesn't happen all the time though...some programs got installed over whats built in, like opera9.5 but I ended up with 2 icons in programs.
This is one of the reasons that kicked me away from full roms. I liked full roms before but after these incidents I find that lite roms don't/hardly come with those kind of problems, plus I get more space with spl1.2 to install a good amount of programs that I use regularly and still have more than 100MB left to install more programs that has to be installed to main memory.
Below are things I had said in another post and didn't want to rewrite it, so I just copied and paste (something my friend can't do on his iphone, ha, I still laugh at him about it)
Well really, Lite versions don't really bring much to the table except that it allows me to install only the apps that I need or want without having my programs folder looking like something out of a horror movie , eg. if I use the more robust SoftMake Office 2008 there's really no need for me to have MS Office installed, right?
Lite versions gives me an almost clean OS which gives me the "feeling" that my phone runs faster (even it it isn't running faster and just a subconscious feeling). Plus it installs faster .
Lite Versions are just the courtesy from the chef to us the people who wants the lite version, because the chef cooks in the apps that he wants, so for him to take out all that just for us is real generous....get what I'm trying to say?
It is nothing superior to the full, it doesn't carry the bells and whistles, its just what it is "lite". I have a plethora of cabs and only the ones I use. On a full install I hardly use 50% of the apps that comes with it....actually, I might only use 25%.
For me it all boils down to this......a lite version offers me the option of really customizing my phone, no additives, just the things I put in it.

Getting Stock to Custom

Hello Guys,
I am pretty much new to Android here (Used to be a Windows Mobile user), although I am starting to read and learn more about it. I felt so happy to be out of the Microsoft Mobile spell, it was horrible and the software just lives in the world of its own, it lags at almost anything and in short, it just cant work.
Alright, so I got my Hero 2 weeks back and I wanted to know a few things, which I hope you can help me with it.
- I have about 60 over applications on my SD card, and I wish to use the MoDaCo ROM, How am I able to backup the applications from the current stock rom and transfer them to SD Card or somewhere else?
( Will Market still recognise the apps I downloaded after I flashed my phone to MoDaCo? )
- One more question, everything when the MoDaCo rom releases a new version, lets say from 2.9 to 3.0, must I reflash and build everything from scratch again?
Thanks A Lot,
Jeremy

hi,
well to answer your questions,
you can install all your applications directly on your sd card using app2sd.(it is incorporated in the modaco roms but bear in mind you have to correctly format ur sd card in ext3 partition for app2sd application to work . Once you've done that , you can flash anything and you'll not have any problem.
2)concerning paid applications, yes. market will automatically recognise applications you bought once you sign in your google account(they'll be recognised but you'll have to download it manually) but paid ones, nope.
3)when you upgrade from the same built( meaning from 2.8 to 3.0 modaco for example) , you dont have to wipe before flashing cause both roms use as base the official 2.73 rom. thus you wont lose any of your settings. However, when you upgrade from a modaco rom to community rom 1.6 , you should normally wipe.(builts are not the same here, one being cupcake and the other eclair)

Thanks A lot for your response, and I have some questions again.
- Where could I find an app to format my SDCard to Ext3? Will my Windows PC still be able to read EXT3?
- You mentioned that market will recognise my downloaded applications after I root the phone right? So, I dont really get it - I have to download it manually? Meaning? ( All my apps are free, no paid )
- Its pleasing to hear that I don't have to wipe when I upgrade to 3.0.
- Oh and something which I missed out, I am supposed to flash a Radio at the same time right? Which one is the best to date? I heard that there was many versions. ( I'm using a GSM Hero)
Sorry for the inconvinience.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Your storage memory is fine.......
Thats the good news.
The bad news is that you have a problem with the program memory.
Its because of the 3.14 ROM.
Do you have HSPL installed as well as that 3.14 ROM?
Im not sure about the ins and outs of the problem but if you search the forums you will find plenty of threads discussing low amounts of program memory and the 3.14 ROM.
Sorry I cant be of any more help but I dont use that ROM so Ive never really looked into the problem.
Edit; Try this thread for a solution

Thanks a lot for replying .....!!! similar related to this i had posted on the HTC HD2 Anroid Q&A thread, please look into that.
Do you have HSPL installed as well as that 3.14 ROM?
Yes i am having HSPL installed as welll as 3.14 ROM, and one more important thing : please check this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950165
when i flashed with "Motoman234_MyTouch4G_V3.1_DAF" i can succesfull have the full tour of the ROM, but after that i flashed with WP7 used for one month then again i went directly to MAGLDR and tried to flash "Motoman234_MyTouch4G_V3.1_DAF" & "DL.DesireZ.v3.4.final.nand". From here it am seeing message storage memory almost full.
So is there any uninstall procedure for WP7, i guess directly trying to flash caused these issue. Please suggest
I cant really comment on that, sorry.
I dont use MAGLDR/WP7 so I dont wanna give you any advice in case its wrong...
The answer is out there though, try using google to search instead of the site search function, just add "xda" to the end of your google search, might yield better results.

As from my experience, there is no way to uninstall WP7 but to flash your device with the stock/custom rom. For safety, use micro sd method (which I am sure you know it, right? )

You can go to HTC Website. There, you select country "South East Asia"
Then, go to the download section. If your Serial Number is accepted, it means the rom is suitable for your device.
Goodluck

Stock ROM version 3.14 only has 448MB. No need to worry
The stock 3.14 ROM only allows access to 448MB of the total system RAM. Your storage memory is 200MB because you haven't reformatted your SD card after installing WP7. When you install WP7 thru MAGDLR your SD card is partitioned with 200MB available to Windows, you need to completely format your SD card and then it should read correctly. Please use the search function, these questions have been asked many times.
