Thanks for the info! Makes sense though because i have had 3g phones for years and the cellular data rates felt much quicker on the streak than on any of my other phones, samsung impression or blackberry bold etc... All nice phones but most the time i can surf or use internet without wifi and i dont get impatient lol.
The fun thing is, the streak can display 3G in the right areas. The towers are wonky here, though.

The title says it all really. Wondering if the Amaze would work here on T-Mobile Austria which uses UMTS 2100. I read somewhere else that it relies on 1700 and 2100 for upload/download. Don't much about how this works.... or can the phone do both on the 2100 band? I sort of prefer it to a normal Sensation available here because it has NFC. Not that it has much use as of now....
EDIT: on Wiki it appears that T-Mobile Austria uses 1900 for upload and 2100 for download so I guess it wouldn't work.

I live in italy and I'm not sure it's working in europe. Generally t-mobile's phones works in italy, but I want to be sure before I buy

Those are three bands listed on my box. Shows 1900 so I'm guessing it would work.

You will be able to use the HTC Amaze to place calls pretty much anywhere in the world since it's quad-band.
For 3G however, the box indicates only UMTS bands AWS & 2100. So you just have to check if your carrier uses one of those bands for 3G (you can look at this page for example). As you can see, the phone will work in 3G pretty much everywhere in Europe.
Some carriers however use UMTS bands 2100 and 900. The 900 Mhz frequency has a wider coverage area and is quite cheap to set up since the carriers can use existing GSM antennas (with some modification of course). If your carrier is listed as using "900/2100", it basically means you'll only have 3G in densely populated areas (where UMTS 2100 is used) but not in remote areas (where UMTS 900 is used). Both frequencies' coverage maps should be available on your carrier's website.
Lawk and Metallaro: 900 Mhz doesn't seem to be in use in Austria nor in Italy, so you should have full 3G coverage with the HTC Amaze (unless Wikipedia is wrong of course).

I've been searching high and low for a phone that will work on both T-mobile and AT&T. The Galaxy Nexus was going to be my choice, but it has way too many problems (screen being the biggest issue).
I found this version of the Razr Maxx which says that it has bands for both AT&T and T-Mobile. My question to you guys is this: If I buy this phone, will I be able to use it and get full 3G (HSPA+) speeds on either carrier?

After doing some more research, it seems that the phone has to have 1700/2100 bands in order to work on T-Mobile.
The phone has 2100 band. Does this mean that T-Mobile 3G HSPA will work only when the area has that band, or not at all?

So YES, that model WILL WORK on ATT/TMO. Both companies have roaming agreements with each other and other companies which would allow your device to work if and when you are within a coverage area. NOT ALL features may work in certain areas AND data may be a certain speed in 1 area and in another it may be MUCH MUCH SLOWER due to the fact that it is using your 2G/GSM bands because there is no 3G/HSPA aka HSPA+ aka 4G (aka by ATT and/or TMO). This particular model CANNOT AND WILL NOT ever get true 4G/LTE.

after many years of following this stuff, and as a user of both tmo & att services, i must say you are exactly correct! i vaguely recall reading about a pentaband phone in development that would do 3g on both services, but lost track of whether it ever came to market

This is a technical question and even though it's about the t-mobile t999 I decided to post it here as well because the post relates to the international version as well. Here it is:
I live in Israel. I used to live in the US. Last time I was in the US I bought this phone and brought it over. I did my research beforehand and knowingly purchased the phone assuming I would have full compatible with Israeli service providers...
Now, I'm not so sure anymore. I just tried the phone today.. maybe 5 hours of use. Still have the default OS installed. No root or anything. The signal seems to fluctuate going between Edge and higher speed networks.
Here's what it says about Cellcom on wikipedia:
Cellcom eventually sought to replace the 850 MHz TDMA frequencies it owns with standard 900 MHz GSM frequencies but Pelephone and Partner (Orange) petitioned the Ministry of Communications to deny this for technical reasons. This put Cellcom at a disadvantage since though most of its users had converted to GSM, they were not able to make use of the lower frequency's better in-building penetration and greater cell reach.
With its entry into 3G wireless services Cellcom demoed the first mobile video call in Israel. Since the beginning of 2006, Cellcom began deploying a 3G UMTS-2100 network nationwide which by the end of 2007 covered than 87% of the population. Cellcom was the first in Israel to launch an HSDPA network (also called "Generation 3.5") nationwide. In 2011, Cellcom began to deploy UMTS services in the 850 MHz band, employing unused capacity in that frequency range since it had very few TDMA customers remaining. I just put the SIM card back in my old international Galaxy 2 i9100T and it'll fluctuate between HSDPA: 8 and HSPA+:15. Also it displays an H icon in the status bar (I don't think Resurrection rom is capable of displaying an H+).
Anyway, I'm going to put the SIM back in the Galaxy 3 t999. It now fluctuates between EDGE: 2, HSPAP: 15, HSPA: 11, and UMTS: 3. The signal is shifty and only displays a 3G at the top, no H like the international Galaxy 2.
Here's what wikipedia lists as the differences between the two models of the Galaxy 3 (standard international i9300 and my t-mobile t999):

It could be an OS issue. Have you tried flashing yet?
You will never get an H or H+ with a T-Mobile branded GS3. It's as simple as looking at your User Manual.

Your phone contains all the networks for Israel, but it's optimized for T-Mobile's network. So you aren't going to get the performance you would get with the International GSIII.
I need some technical help; I want to purchase a SONY xperia SX or praying a 850/1900 shows up soon as I doubt the nexus variant will be this small (if it even will come).
However the spec sheet shows that:
LTE 2100 (Band I)
HSPA+ 800 (Band VI), 800 (Band XIX), 2100 (Band I) GSM 850/900/1800/1900
I want to use the phone on AT&T HSPA which is Band II (1900) and Band V (850) <-this one
This WONT work right even though Band VI and XIX are narrower in TX/RX than Band V? I don't want to spend $900 and be stuck using this phone on 2G/EDGE only. Stupid bands.

Similar question as OP, except for bands on T-Mobile (1700MHz & 2100MHz needed for 4G). I use an SE Xperia Ray (ST18a) on T-Mobile US, but only get 2G. It is adequate for now. Was wondering if I would be losing ALL data functionality or might gain some with the Sony Xperia SX SO-05D.

I am experienced in the fact i can follow forum instructions quite well (have rooted/Jailbroken/flashed custom firmware etc on mine and my friends' phones) but a newbie in the fact I have never coded, made my own ROMs etc.
As this is a Japan exclusive phone I really want to know if I am going to be able to flash custom ROMs etc? It seems there is already a "one-click root" on the Japanese forums but CWM isn't fully working yet and i don't know if they will develop ROMs or port CyanogenMod to it.
Seeing as SE are really unreliable with updates I would like to have a failsafe in case they dont release any. How would I go about porting CM10 for example myself? Is it something only an experienced coder can do?

I have been using an SX on AT&T in the USA for a couple months. LTE does not work but HSPA seems OK. Using speedtest.net, I have seen over 4 Mbps but usually it is much closer to 1 Mbps in practical use. That's a far cry from the theoretical maximum for HSPA, but it's pretty fast.

Does the Zenfone 9 officially "support" T-Mobile 5G? I believe the answer is NO, and that's why 5G is disabled by default. With 5G enabled on my phone, I frequently encounter a complete lack of mobile data, even though the phone is showing full signal. I believe there are certain carrier aggregation combos that the phone is using, that T-Mobile doesn't support (and/or vice versa).
Users on Reddit have noted that the following two 5G CA modes do not work on this phone:
* n41 NSA
* n41_n71 SA CA

It seems like if you're going to try to use this phone on T-Mobile you NEED to disable 5G.
I have also seen people state that if you are rooted, you can edit QPST (carrier_policy.xml) to disable n41 entirely and it mostly "solves" the problem.
Seems like this is a pretty big problem with this phone that no one is really talking about.
I get T-mobile 5G, but only after dialing *#*#ENHANCED4G#*#* and toggling the 4G Calling option after each reboot and I don't need to reboot that often.

Another update.... Lots of people tell me their calls to me go directly to voicemail, so I did some testing. Sitting at home, with very very good 5G coverage, about 25% of the time, when I placed test calls to myself (from another cell phone) the phone would not even ring, just go directly to voicemail. Same problem on wifi calling on my rock solid 1gbps/1gbps network.
If I disable 5G (use 4G only), the problem is solved.
This phone DOES NOT properly support T-Mobile 5G.
I have T-mobile and have been using Zenfone 9 (US version which is C version I believe).
Phone does support 5G for T-mobile, as you can see below. What Zenfone does not support is mmwave 5G which are on bands 258, 260 and 261 from Tmobile. That is also known as 5G UC (ultra capacity) which is usually 250-300-350Mbps network speed.
Just earlier today I measured my speed in Chicago where I had 5G+, and it came back at 192Mbps.... Now which is exactly this 5G+ band, I have no clue, but all above listed is my personal experience, and I live in Chicagoland...
Check your coverage area, and try to get Tmobile to provide you exact information on what the network band is used for the area where you live... That may be the resolution to your issues where you do not have 5G...
Btw: where I live there is just normal 5G but speeds from Tmobile are about 30Mbps for 5G and on the 4G I get about 20Mbps... I can tell you for a fact there is not much difference in what that 20Mbps does for you, while 5G is just tiny bit faster that is all...
My next phone will be Samsung S23+ or Ultra because Samsungs support ultra capacity 5G and are certainly faster on 5G UC than anything I have seen before on mobile phones.
