I bought a htc hd2 from ebay, it came with Android on it. The phone kinda works perfect, but would of preferred windows on it. Is there any way to go back!
I tried a few walk through's that just did nothing to the phone,.
I'll try to give as much info as I can
When I turn phone on it goes to a load screen, then says Dark Force Team
Android 2.2
baseband version 12.42.50.11u_2.15.50.14
kernel- 2.6.32.15-g66fed7-dirtycotulla-cotulla-desktop#2
build 2.29.405.5 cl293415 release-keys
software number 2.229.405.5
browser version 3.1
When I power off and hold volume Down The bootload screen says
Pb81120 hx-b3
Spl-2.08 hspl 8g xe
I have no clue what any of this means, Just know I want the original windows on phone, everything I have tried has failed.
After you turn on ur phone with the volume down key pressed, its gonna take u to the bootload screen (the rainbow screen) ... plug ur phone to ur computer, and flash ur hd2 with any winmo6.5 ROM

Spl-2.08 hspl 8g xe suggests almost every ROM for T is suitable,if you have a wm6.5 ROM,change it into "leoimg.nbh",then press volume down and power to start phone, soon you can see a situation of flashing in screen, press power to do it so you will get your windows later
IMO you shouldn't switch back to Windows

If you want to switch back to Windows Mobile, perform a hard reset by holding down both the Vol-Up and Vol-Down buttons at the same time as you press the power button. This will take you to a screen that says "Delete all phone and account data" or something along the lines of this. Two screens will pop up after this, on both, press Vol-Up as prompted.
Although you would like to switch to Windows, I would discourage it, as the Windows Mobile Marketplace has been discontinued, and in turn limits the use of your phone.

Hi, thanks for the idea But it didn't work as advised. My data's are still the same.
That's holding onto the lower and upper vol button with power button.
thanks
Hard reset won't work as you have nand android so a reset would just reset Android ...
Going back to WM6.5 is good idea & no market is no problem as a simple search will bring up all the apps you need as cabs & with a lot of feedback on quality & best versions unlike the 5h1te on android market.
You should be able to flash from pc if you have ActiveSync(XP) or WMDC6.1(Vista,W7.W8)
*Before flashing confirm your HD2 type as EU version (all white icon hard keys) or TMOUS HD2 (geen call & red end keys)
** If have TMOUS extra care is needed as flashing wrong radios wil leave device bricked.
1. Download a Stock Rom or Custom ROM using links from HD2 Wiki
2. Enter Bootloader Mode by taking the battery out, then put it back in and hold down the 'Volume Down' button while briefly pressing the power button.
3. After the phone enters the Bootloader Screen, plug in the usb cable so it says usb at the bottom of the screen
4. Run the Stock Roms .exe file (or run the customruu.exe file of the Custom Rom you want to flash)
* This will flash a Stock Rom and Radio(if use original ROM with radio included) while keeping your HardSPL untouched *
You may be wise use the CleanEx RV standard v1.02 custom ROM as gives a very original generic ROM but with many bug fixes & smoother running.
All other tools such as HSPL4 for installing a new SPL or HSPL & Activesync & WMDC6.1 can be found in HD2 Wiki too if you have a little browse ...

This is very helpful, but I still have some questions. I'd like to go back to a stock 6.5 Windows ROM, because my phone has a number of bad NAND blocks at this point, which have been rendering it very unstable even with older stable Android ROMs. I have HSPL 2.08 installed and the phone is T-Mo US version.
From what I understand, I need to have a running sync connection with Windows Mobile Device Center to flash a stock ROM, no? When pressing volume down, I get into the HSPL bootloader mode, and it connects as "USB", and the WMDC status says "disconnected". Is there some special way of getting it into the proper flashing mode before running the stock ROM .exe?
And also, for the U.S. version of the stock ROM, it looks like it doesn't come bundled with a radio. Do I install the radio before or after flashing the Windows ROM?
EDIT: looks like just running the .exe flashed the 6.5 ROM just fine, and it did come with a radio bundled
EDIT #2: but... big problem is that the SIM card is not being recognized "SIM card is missing" error.

The official US TMOUS rom came packaged with radio, you could try reflashing radio (look in HD2 wiki, also one in my signature).
Highly likely your no sim error could be due to bad blocks/hardware, try obvious things too such as cleaning sim contacts & perhaps adding tape to back of sim so pushes harder on contact pins.

Stock rom won't help you to fight against bad blocks
You may try to perform Task29 before flashing the rom. Besides - any custom rom is better than stock because it has smaller size than TMOUS stock.

For those of you who also read PPC Geeks, this is the same problem. I am just trying to cover more area and hopefully stumble across somebody that has a solution to my problem.
The current situation is that the phone will not boot at all. I can hard reset it, I can enter into the bootloader (which is no2Chem 2.47) and I can flash ROMs to it. However, when I try to boot the phone, the black HTC logo flashes for about half a second and then I get a black screen.
I have tried flashing the Sprint ROM available on HTC's website (RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.56.651.0_RS_TITAN_3.42.02_ SPCS2.04_PPST_0718_Ship.exe) and this one: RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.35.651.2_RS_TITAN_3.35.04_4 350H_SPCS_AM_Ship.exe.
I've hard resetted, soft resetted, taken the battery etc. Anybody have any idea what I should do or why this is happening? Thanks for the help!
Try some things here.

I wasn't able to do any of that since I cannot create an Activesync connection between my phone and pc.
I think you may have messed up your bootloader, try and get another one installed on it. I recommed olipro 2.40 and radio 3.35 but you can use a higher radio. Dude you dont need an active sync connection, read the wiki article further. At most you would need the WMmodem drivers installed on your computer. Just put the phone in bootloader (power, camera, reset) and run the tools on the wiki site i linked to you. You can run RUU Rom Update Utility from your Home computer while phone is in bootloader mode, you do not need to have the phone fully booted into windows mobile and synced, or even connected to active sync. Hope this helps I could be wrong though, just try some things and read.
I tried running the TITAN_RELOCKER.EXE, but it wouldn't do it since it didn't have an ActiveSync connection. I have tried the RUU with multiple NBH files. Trying to flash the radio, rom, and/or spl. I will try the bootloader stuff again. Thanks.
EDIT:
Found a new symptom. When I don't have the power cable in I can use the power button to turn on the device and the top right light is green. When I plug it in the light flashes red and won't let me use the power button to turn it on, but will do the same "flash the HTC boot screen" if I soft reset.
Try renaming the .nbh file to TITAIMG.nbh and put it in a 1GB or less microsd card and then press the power button + the camera Button together and hold, and then press the reset button that is located next to your usb charging/syncing slot
good luck
I will give that a try. Does anyone have the nueSpl NBH or any other bootloader for that matter? I can only find the exe to run on the phone and I can't do that.
Hmm it says flash a boot screen? Sounds like you may need to do just that. I have never heard of the blinking red light other than low battery. You can try using PPC Geeks kitchen to build your own rom (temporarily) and you can choose which bootscreens you want to use. If you get the bootscreens to succesfully flash you can either test the ROM and see if you like it or flash the ROM of your choice and it will not overwrite your bootscreens, some overwrite the windows 6.1 screen but most of them do not.
PPCGeeks.com How to unlock device and cook your own rom
Read through that thread and download the PPC Kitchen, now dont open the kitchen run the kitchen updater, pick titan files, and the newest build 20931 and get started after that.
Dont pick an animation just splash, sub splash, and the Windows 6.1 splash. Now run it let it do its thing just make sure you are in bootloader before plugging in to computer. If the flash still doesnt work then you can try the MicroSD card method. Format the card to FAT32 and make sure its totally empty(not even a folder). Now navigate on your computer to mydocuments/buildOS RUU, then look for the RUU_Signed.nbh and copy and paste it to the Memory card and Rename to TITAIMG.nbh now put the card in your phone and then into bootloader mode(power camera reset same time) and let it try flashing. If you still cant get it to work and you have tried starting from scratch then the phone may be a brick. Hard to tell now try some more things.

Ok I have to send my phone in to ATT warranty dept because my screen is flickering like crazy for some reason. It looks like a bad case of VHold on a old CRT monitor. I am currently running Energy ROM and need to reflash to stock. Only problem is I can't read the screen. I did a hard reset on it just to see if it was a software issue. It loads the ROM gets to the align screen and when I try to align it it just seems to reset the align screen after pressing it in the 5 locations. What do I need to do to reload the factory ROM from HTC and is there anything else that needs to be changed? I really do not want to have to pay the $400 dollars they told me I would have to pay if they end up saying it is something I did or if they catch wind I had a cooked ROM on it.
If there is anything else you guys need please let me know so that I can get this issue taken care of.
Here is what shows on the boot screen:
R:1.14.25.05
G:52.63.25.34H
Y:5nergy ROM
Like I said I would be reloading the ROM directly from HTC website so if I recall the radio is included with that ROM but what about the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and Hard-SPL package that was installed to use the cooked ROM? Will they be able to see that was changed or will they even care?
Just reinstall them by the following order:
- Stock ROM (from HTC)
- RadioROM is not needed by the fact that's installed with the stock-ROM
- Flash Stock SPL (at the end of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150)
- Flash Stock ROM again to be sure everything is back to it's original state (After you have flashed the Stock SPL the Stock ROM can also flash it's own (because there are different versions (1,9/5.5/...)) SPL)
Good luck!
okay first off you gotta download the att rom located here http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=198&cat=2&dl_id=553 and get ur phone in bootloader mode, to do that take the stylus and old down the volume button down, and press the reset button with the stylus, located near the usb port. then plug your phone into the pc then run the update utlity and follow steps on the pc
I followed the instructions on the youtube vid tutorial thread to install Android Nand and now when I boot up my phone, it is frozen on the splash screen (white background with green HTC text). I cant even flash a stock ROM on to the phone as it is not sync'd with my laptop.
Oh and I used HSPL, but Im not sure which version. Apparently I need to use version 2.08. Anyway to check it?
Can anyone help out pls. Thanks.
Your phone is not bricked.
You need to go to HTC's website for your country and download the ROM - you will need to use your phone's serial number to get the download. If you are allowed to download the ROM (not the 3.14 version, as you want to run Android from NAND), then that ROM will work on your phone. If you get an 'invalid' message, then you need to try another ROM (as your phone may be branded to the telecom company).
If you are going to use the SD card method of flashing the ROM, then make sure that the SD is less than 8GB.
You don't need to use ActiveSync, just boot the phone into Bootloader mode (press and hold the Volume Down button and then tap the Power button). The bottom of the screen will say 'Serial' and when you then plug it into your computer it will change to 'USB'. You can then run the ROM and just tick the box about Activesync.
Thanks for your help problem is now solved.
Hey all, I am having trouble booting anything onto my HD2 everytime i boot the phone i get stuck on the (tri colour screen) "Hardspl" i think..
I am able to install original HTC roms and custom roms via USB and Serial but after i install them and it says installation complete when the phone restarts it just gets stuck on the "Hardspl" screen again??
Any help is appreciated thanks

(UPDATED)
How do i remove hspl ive tried installing an offical rom from the SD card but i still boot into this screen ????
Try this........
Power off the phone (make sure your battery is over 50%)
Turn on while holding the vol. down button.
You should be at bootloader (three colour screen)
If you have HSPL installed you should see "cotulla" and "HSPL" on the bootloader somewhere.
If youve been flashing official roms though this may have uninstalled HSPL.
I couldnt get the screenshots you linked to...
You can attach image files using the "manage attachments" button down under the text entry area.. (i think)
Id suggest trying to flash a stock/official rom just now until you get up and running.
With the phone at bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen....
Connect via USB and wait for "serial" to change to "USB", this could take a few minutes.......
When you see "usb" flash the ROM from your pc......
You should make sure that you have the correct ROM for your phone, go to the HTC site and pump in your serial number.
If you still have problems after this then post back here with any error messages you might get...
Hope that helps.....
Thanks for the reply, for the link you need to add (http ://) sorry i should have mentioned that
but i just finished doing what you told be and it finished installing. it had the HTC logo on phone with loading bar as on PC screen no errors :S but im still stuck on the tri colour screen
I originally had android booted onto this mobile but the 3G was not working so i tried installing the HTC wm 6.5 rom that I downloaded from the HTC website but it would not get out of the tri colour screen after i installed it.
So i though it may have been the hardspl its self so i updated the SLP from 2.05 to the 3.03 one im currently on but it does the same thing
Hmm ok...
So the flash finished all the wasy to 100% and there were no error messages..
then the phone rebooted and went to bootloader (3 colours)...??
Restarting the phone just keeps returning you to bootloader??
Try turning off then back on while holding down both volume buttons and see what happens.
Which model of HD2 do you have and which ROM did you flash??
Yes thats correct.
When i turn the device on wile holding vol up-down i get a grey screen to
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. press vol up to restore or press any other keys to cancel"
and im not sure what HTC HD2 i have..
Model: T8585 ?
I flashed the latest rom from the HTC website using the S/N
"RUU_Leo_S_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.831.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship"
Okay, get to that screen and press volume up to continue, this will perform a hard reset which is recommended after a flash, your device should then boot up, may take a few minutes as its the first time..........
ok, It finished in like less then 10sec but there was not skips did from 1% - 100% smoothly and says "Restore....Completed Press VolUp to boot"
So i pressed volume up and once again stuck on the tri colour screen
any more suggestions or is my phone dead?
Hmmm
Phones not bricked because 95% of the time if you can get to bootloader the problem can be fixed........
I have the feeling this is something obvious that Im not picking up on.
Chances are someone else will see this and point out the obvious but at the minute I cant think why it might be doing that......
You could try flashing the ROM from SD card.
Rename the file on your PC to "leoimg.nbh" and put it on a 2gb/4gb sd card, turn the phone off, put the card in, turn on and it should flash........
Like I said, i dont think your phone is dead, I think Im missing something obvious....
its weird because i can install roms, hardspl's and all that stuff it knows the phone is there and installs them but for some reason it never gets passes the hardspl stage.. on each boot.
it accually boots into the tri colour screen in a split second of turning the phone on
Its a longshot but is there any possibility that your volume down button is stuck in the pressed position.........
yeah i have installed off the SD card already. that took awhile but it says everything is ok and installsion has completed.
same problem though once i restart tri-coloured screen pops up.
Im afraid Im not sure about this one...........
I'll keep thinking and let you know if anything occurs to me.....
Im sure someone else will chip in at some point and point out the issue though.
alright no worries thanks for the help and time hopefully someone knows what the problem is.
Maybe if i uninstall the Hardspl? might totally wreck it and 100% brick my phone if it fails but I think its the only option ill have left soon
uninstalling hspl shouldnt cause any harm........
I didnt realise you had HSPL installed, I take it you instaled that after flashing the stock rom??
If you have HSPL installed......
Try to install a custom rom, ie an energy rom, just as an experiment........
dunno if youve seen the images yet conan, but unless its changed since, the OP has 3.03.0000
also, if he has magldr installed ( i didnt see it mentioned, but..) when you hard reset it takes just a few seconds, because it is only hard resetting magldr (at least thats my understanding, and would offer a reason why hard reset is so quick)
I suspect incorrect 3,14 flash, which didnt complete so its returning to bootloader,
so, OP, bootloader - hspl4 - 3.03.hspl - flash your 3.13 rom again, over usb.
ok thanks ill try that right now, also yes magldr was installed for android but i thought I got rid of it once i rebooted the offical HTC rom.
If this works im donating $20 to you right away no joke .. ive been trying to fix for 13hours straight

sd card flash, right?
Step 1 of the flash is the spl gets overwritten by the one in the leoing.nbh rom (3.03.0000 in this case) and then the phone reboots, and starts to flash , , splashscreen (where magldr is), radio, rom.
BUT, the phone wont allow the flash to start because hspl is now gone, so it fails CID checks and stops, so doesn't remove magldr, radio, rom, nothing, it just stops. Further attempts at flashing fail because you teh user haven't notived the spl change, you assume the whole flash failed, and that hspl is still there.
You shouldnt be able to get that far normaly, it would fail before it even starts, on a stock spl, except that hspl was there, so the flash was allowed to begin.
Ok, so its on SPL-3.03.HSPL now then I installed the latest HTC offical rom with USB but still no go
also if it is resetting magldr how come it doesent load up like it used to after a reset
Hello,
this will be a pretty extensive post, but I want to give you as much info as I can so you can help me
I got a second had EU HD2 with a stock bootloader, radio, rom, ect.
Bootloader: 1.42.0000
Rom: 1.66.479.2 (76641) WWE
Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol: 15.32.50.07U
I read the forum for a couple of years now and I'm pretty familiar with all the procedures for flashing (I own a couple more htcs,
flashed in every possible way)
The problem is that the battery life is very poor: after a hard reset, so no previously installed apps, not using gps, BT, WiFi, or
anything (even phone in airplane mode), I get 6-7 hrs battery life. Even in standby the battery drains at almost the same rate.
SpoonCharge says -140ma - -150ma with no app or anything in airplane mode. I tried 2 more batteries known to go over 2 days with other
hd2s.
So, I decide the problem might be in the rom and go ahead to flash to a new one:
I chose the Artemis v.65 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
I read all the instructions and all other linked to them threads. Started flashing to the stock LEO-S 3.14 with the instructions here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8776196&postcount=26465
Flashed to SPL 1.66.0000, as said in step 2.
Tried to enter bootloader with VolDown and PowerOn, but it just starts the OS. From inside the OS I can enter bootloader with the EndKey
from johcos but ONLY that way! I tried another bootloader, 1.66HSPL, 2.08 SPL and HSPL, 3.03 SPL - nothing - I cant enter bootloader
manually - only through the EndKey with booted OS.
SO - why the hell??
I can go into bootloader through the EndKey, but I fear flashing because if something happens and the flashing doesn't go as expected I
wont be able to enter bootloader and fix things, no matter with USB sync or SD!
At one (brave) point I tried to flash the RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283 - but it got to 1% and displayed an error: "Update utility not compatible with
device" or something similar.
So, bottom line after this long read:
1. Why/How can't/can I get into bootloader manually?
2. Why at the first place the batt life is so poor with all processes around 0%?
Thank you for the time spent reading my story!
and
Thanks in advance for any help!
here's some "hepl"
1- post in the corect section. The general forum is for these questions you know. it's quite odd for someone who've read the forums for years to make such mistake.
2- Since it's a second hand device, god knows what the previous owner did to it.
3- Does the volume down hardware key work when WinMo is running?
4- Do you turn on the device while holding down the volume down key, or do you press it after it starts, or release it before it starts?
5- I'm pretty sure the artemis build you're trying to get needs SPL 3.03 which you can get here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11499585&postcount=3
6- try your device with SD removed. And make sure you haven't installed any program that runs in the background on the SD.
that's all I can help with
I'm very sorry for the wrong section. I was late and I was frustrated with many hours of struggling with the hd2. Please someone move it where it belongs.
@Dr.Move - thanks for trying to help!
I got it from a friend of mine and can assure I has handled well and it's never been to any kind of repair. It was never even flashed.
All keys work in WinMo.
I hold the VolDown key before pressing the PowerOn key. Tried also holding both keys together, holding VolDown and reseting with the reset button. Manual hard reset with VolUp and VolDown and PowerOn also doesn't work.
Artemis does need SPL3.03, but the flashing instructions say flashing SPL 1.66.0000, than stock 3.14-S which flashes to SPL 3.03.0000 and radio 2.15 .50.14, than Artemis. But that doesn't really matter right now, as it has nothing to do with me not being able to manually enter bootloader or hard reset.
Tried with SD in and out, formatted it (not quick) - all the same.
A thing I forgot to mention. My friend said the hard buttons didn't work, before I got the device. It happened a year ago, when we had no htc service in our country (Bulgaria) and the device had to be sent abroad, so he ditched it and got a new one. He couldn't remember what was wrong with the buttons, but it surely wasn't not being able to enter bootloader, as he doesn't even know what that is.
When I power up the device all the buttons worked and still work. (He was surprised and said "Well - good for you ).
So I'm starting to think the problem might be in the VolDown button, but the PowerOn obviously works. How can it be the buttons work in the OS and not before it boots up??
Ok, update.
I know what you're going to say, I did probably the dummest thing I could. I know now...
I did task 29, wiped the NAND. VolDown + PowerOn still doesnt work.
So empty nand and cant enter bootloader.
Is there anything I can try, what can be the reason the VolDown doesn't work (the button itself DID work in WinMo).
Can something be done or i got myself a shiny black brick?
damn
Sorry for that bro, I think you should move to the general forum now and ask there.
make sure you state your problem in the title clearly, much like you did here.
I'm sorry I can't help you any further as I'm not a developer/electrician. but seems I don't need to tell you that you shouldn't have done that before making sure the buttons worked.
