Kies contact and calendar sync - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I placed an order for SGSII and its shipping this thursday :_)
just a question regarding kies, can it sync outlook contacts and calendar easily
how about music and video sync, is it good ?

I don't know about Outlook, maybe someone else can review that for you. But I sync my contacts and calender with Google and it works great. Syncing pictures, audio and video through Kies also work fine, just make sure you untick optimise for mobile in Kies so it would avoid down-converting the data you sync to your phone.

are you able to sync through USB with Kies?
in my case, Kies Air connects ok, though it does has problem parsing my outlook 2010 calendar.
but when USB is used, it's complaining that i should switch mode to "Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode", which i search high and low, and couldn't find the mode toggle option.
the path recommended by people's using i9000 are dead ends too.
edit: turn out it's due to the USB debug mode. when enabled, Kies refuse to connect.

How do you fix this problem?
How do you turn off the usb debug mode. Is it on the i9100 or the PC?

i started using kies but gave up in the end. you might have better luck than i did as i'm sure that it would work fine with a bit of work.
i ended up using this myphoneexplorer : http://www.fjsoft.at/en/
i can't recommend this software highly enough - it has made syncing with outlook bulletproof and it also allows me to control my phone from my pc when i'm at work.
hope this helps ...

it works

i also use kies to sync my media (songs/videos) folders with the phone and it also works perfectly

i gave up trying to use it (i use hotmail, and thus outlook connector). i got it working fine, but then went and setup hotmail as an exchange account instead. its just annoying that contact pics dont sync except gmail...

Keis didn't work but myphoneexplorer did the trick pretty well

Install Google calender sync on your PC as that will sync Outlook to your Gmail account that you will set up on your phone. Set your phones calender to sync with the same Gmail account.
Anything you then put on your phone or Outlook will sync automatically without having to connect your phone to the PC at all.

outlook sync
Hi,
just wanted to let you know that I had no problems at all to sync my Samsung Galaxy S2 with Outlook 2010.
Anyhow I have problems to sync my Galaxy S2 Samsung calendar afterwards with my google calendar. Any ideas how to do this?

Hmmm...I just read your question again.....
You've got it set to sync under
\ settings\accounts and sync ?

Thanks for your help! Now I get it up and running.

HTC sync VS Active sync

Hi there!
As I'm currently a Windows mobile user about to take the step over to Hero I just want to make sure that I can use my Hero at work as well.
Today I sync my work contacts and work calendar with Outlook using active sync.
When syncing I don't have to enter any information at all, the sync sets up automatically to Outlook.
Does HTC sync work in the same way!?
Do you have to set up the HTC sync by entering server names and a lot of other stuff like that, or is it just like active sync that everything is automatical!?
The reason I ask is that I'm fairly sure that my company will not allow me to sync if a lot of configuration is needed.
All answers are apreciated!

I use HTC Sync with my CDMA Hero and don't really have any problems. My outlook contacts and calendar sync pretty well. Sometimes it takes a try or two to get it to recognize my phone, but it usually works fairly quickly..

Thanks for the quick answer!
Sounds great!
Did you just install HTC sync and then connected your Hero and it synced automatically!? Is no setting up at all needed?
When using Active Sync it's just to plug in your phone and Active Sync seems to set up everything by it self.

Hi Everyone,
Just wonder is HTC sync able to provide internet connection to the phone as what Active Sync does in the Windows mobile phone?
I would like to surf the net in the hero with the usb cable connected to a pc which able to online.
Any idea?
Thank you very much!
Don't think it is possible...
On my side, it doesn't work. Doesn't necesseraly means that it's not possible, but, if it is, there must be some kind of configuration tips to apply...

Desperate help needed please

Bought a HTC HD2 yesterday and got the ms exchange set up info (servername, domain, etc) from our IT department to sync work e-mails, calendar and contacts over my 3G telstra SIM that I have used for the past 2 years with no problems.
I have stayed up to 6 AM trying to get it to sync to no avail!!!! active sync keeps trying to sync and goes into loops with no positive results...
The thing is once I connect to my home internet via wi-fi my emails start to sync without sweat!!!!
It seems that for some reason my 3G is not doing the job, or is there something I need to enable in the setting!!
I am flying to Singapore early Sunday and desperately need to get this sorted...Your help would be very appreciated if you could please guide me
Thanks
Hanney
Well, personally, I would prefer to use outlook to sync my stuff... I find it's a more pleasurable experience... Maybe you can try setting up outlook to get all your mails from your email, and from there sync?? My contacts are sync-ed through outlook too.. Anyway, I'm pretty new here, so just my 2 cents.. =) Hope this helps man...

Thanks for trying to help mate, but my problem is different.
I am trying to sync (on air) not connected to PC via 3G or GBPRS connecting to MS Exchange - This is a very normal work email set up protocol that for some rason won't work on HTC HD2.

I sync OTA with and exchange server, without issues, had to put in no special settings, have you tried removing and re-creating the setup ..
Also , try just selecting contacts to sync, see if it will sync anything ....

Mega Urgent Outlook sync problem

I was wondering if anyone out there has suffered and resolved the following issue.
I have a Sensation which is running ICS version 4.0.3 and software number 3.32.401.5 the ROM I’m currently using is found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1529941 the deodexed version.
I use this phone for work and up until 2 weeks ago everything was working without issues but for some unknown reason all of a sudden, HTC Sync has stopped working. I’m now unable to Sync my work calendar to my phone and since the office are often updating my diary via a CRM package I need these changes to be reflected on my phone. I know it’s not the HTC Sync program, as I have the sync software installed on 3 machines. My home laptop, my work laptop and my work desktop and the phone no longer syncs to any of them. I’ve installed and reinstalled (and before anyone asks antivirus was turned off ), still no joy.
Does anyone one know what might have gone wrong or does anyone know of a different app or program I can use to update the calendar? I did try Google calendar sync but that just didn’t sync, no matter what sync interval I used.
I must add I’m only trying to get my outlook appointments to show up on my phone I don’t need a 2 way sync solution.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice given.

Cannot sync using Kies

Hi,
I'm having trouble syncing my Outlook 2010 contacts and calendar using the Kies software. I've tried it on two different machines and it always gets to 40% then just hangs there. While I'm trying to sync for some weird reason Outlook becomes unresponsive.
I'm using Windows 7 X64 and Outlook 2010 32bit. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciate.d
FYI, I have already posted this in Q&A and no one has answered.
Same here... Windows XP Kies 2.3.1.12044_18
I'm trying to synchronise by Samsung agenda with outlook 2007 agenda on a galaxy S3 and it hangs at 40%
Help please....
Thanks!

After trying it on different laptops I eventually gave up, I've installed Google calendar sync on my laptop and I've set the calendar on my SGS3 to sync with Google calendar.
Since I did this there has been a few updates to Kies so it may be worth trying again, I myself am not going to try as I'm happy just syncing through Google calendar sync. That way in the future when I get a new phone I'm not dependant on whatever software that phone has.
I have also had a problem syncing with Kies/Outlook. I am running W7 64bit and have Kies installed but I keep getting the "Unable to connect to XXX-XXXX. Failed to retrieve device information". When I connect the device, the ID shows up in Kies, so I would assume it should be connected, but there is still an issue. I have run the "troubleshoot connection error", to no avail.
Kies updated to most current version: Ver.2.3.2.12064_10
I do not want to filter all my calendar through Gmail, and it was so easy to sync my HTC with HTC Sync........I love this phone but this is a major flaw
i've exactly the same problem, when i clicked select contact folder, the process continued but with no respond at all.
and if i forced to sync, it stopped at 40% as well.
using xp, latest kies v2.3.3.12085_7
I had the same problem and by the process of elimination, I found the problem to lie with KIES.
Here's what I did
1. Uninstall the latest version of KIES
2. Install an older version of KIES (Kies_2.3.1.12044_18)
After this, I had no problem with syncing any of my contacts.
I'm using Windows 8 with Microsoft Office Professional 2013.
I allowed the KIES software to update itself, and the problem recurred - ergo - KIES is glitchy.
All the best.

[Q] Can't Get HTC Sync Mgr To Start on Mac

Running Mt. Lion and latest Sync Mgr download. Appeared to install OK but will not start either on connect of the HTC One or manually. Anyone got this to work?
So far I am using Missing Sync for Android to transfer Music and Photos to device, Android File Transfer to transfer Photos to Mac, and Smooth Sync for Contacts and Calender to sync to iCloud and all that is working. But I would like to get the Sync Mgr working if possible.
Thanks for any help or info.

Obvious answers.
1. Uninstall and re-install.
2. Unplug your Mac, take it back to the store and buy a *insert Windows PC brand here* (Sorry have to do this one)
3. Software Requirements (Macintosh):
Mac OS X 10.6 or higher version
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011
Source: HTC.com
Or just get a real computer
Didn't know you could still buy one of those "real" computers. Understand sales are almost non-existent but there must be a few die hards around.
Forgot to mention same setup worked great on HTC ONE X+.
Did I mention I am looking for help?

Thanks for the help. I did try turning off AFT since it automatically pops up and then nothing happens but maybe I need to uninstall it. I'll give that a try.
thanks again.

For photos I use DropBoks. Works great...it will sync all pictures to the cloud and sync them to any computer (Mac or PC) running DropBoks.
I will try Missing Sync and see if it can sync my music and playlists.
Surprised to see so much anti mac stuff here.......

Thanks, I'll take a look at DropBoks. I have so much stuff on iPhoto - up to about four different libraries now - that I really enjoy just plugging in my iPhone and syncing everything with no hassle. That is really why I keep going back to it even though all the new Android phones are really nice. I would like to enjoy the great phone features instead of fighting the sync problems.
