gps navigation program - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i'm searching for best navigation program for my hd2, with that i mean the program that is the most stable and works fine. So please if someone can give me a link to download it and tutorial how to make it work it would be of a big help to me.

that is not what this forum is about..
But i use Tomtom and it works great.. links and help use google

I like Navigon very much. Before, I used Garmin.
Both operate with no issues on HD2. Navigon for sure is available on their website (didn´t check though), Garmin is a bit outdated and maybe no longer available.

1) Why not check on the developer's website or email the developer regarding this issue?
2) FWIW, I've found that so far all the WM5 or higher apps that I use work fine on the display.

iGuidance is fine in QVGA mode. Some of the set-up screens do not adapt as well to VGA (96dpi) but the mapping portion looks good and works well with both VGA and QVGA--high-res maps! Very nice! Overall, it is usable, although I have now switched to TeleNav as my primary GPS solution, with iGuidance as a back-up. (PS: This is with version 4.)
telenav vs google maps
hey gary. is telenav worth the pay per month? just got my 7501 and trying to get google maps working with gps.
also, anyone tried Gps data logger and photo tagger? http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/pocket-pc/download-gps-data-logger-and-photo-tagger-1-1.html
emailed helpdesk for the program to see if i could get eval copy, i'll review it as soon as i get that.

I feel it is worth it. Google Maps is limited in that it does not active routing or voice directions as you drive. TeleNav does this, plus searching is pretty good, maybe not quite as good as Google. But decent. Both Google Maps and TeleNav are limited in that you have to have an active data connection (not good for wilderness). Commerical packages (I use iGuidance) don't need the data connection and have good voice and routing features. But you have to wait for your annual (expensive) update to get the latest maps and search info. All in all, TeleNav ends up costing a little more than the annual update but I think it delivers the goods.

GPS Not working, am I missing something...

First off let me say GREAT JOB by DCD and Co... I'm a former 6700 user (used to mod over at PPC6700users) and just recently upgraded to the Mogul... I'm new to the whole kitchen thing and with ease was able to use the new kitchen 2.3.0... Again, thanks to DCD and all other who contributed... I cannot begin to express how much we all appreciate the hard work and support you guys provide us...
Now to the question:
As mentined earlier, I have recently updated to 2.3.0 and as well updated the radio to 3.27.00... For some reason I am not able to get a lock with GPS... Can any one assist...?
I'm not sure if I missed something somewhere (the search feature in this forum is not the greatest). I have searched high and low with no luck...
Thanks in advance...
1st time take long time, u need to leave it outside running for 30 minutes and connect using GPS Immediate Driver.
Also, try making a couple of calls from your Mogul and let it connect to the call for a couple of minutes. Mine wouldn't get a lock until I made a phone call. Maybe, it needs to register your location thru whatever cell site it connects thru. Although, that's just my own opinion, not really sure, but after I made a few calls, Google maps found me in less than a minute.

I didn't know it would take that long... I had read previous post where people said it connected within a minute but sure enough I set it by the window went and had dinner and there they were, 4 pretty little satelites waiting for me when I checked...
I guess I was too impatient... ;O)
Thanks to both for the advise... Let me learn my way around this mogul and who know's, maybe one day I can return the favor...

You can always warm up the GPS with software.
GPSLAUNCHER is to warm up the GPS to work with Tom Tom. This application launches Tom Tom after it warms up the GPS.
Just extract and copy to your device -- \windows\start menu\programs
GPSVIEWER1.5 is for other applications such as google maps and so on.
This one is installed through your computer ( I believe )
If you need assistance feel free to ask.
Excellent... I'll give it a try...
Does 2.3.0 have aPGS enabled by default?
If not, go to HLKM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS
Set GPSMode to 4
Also, I would find and install QuickGPS.
Give that a shot and see if it speeds up your locks
Got GPS Working on VZW XV6800
I followed all the instructions:
Installed latest Unlocker (Hard-SPL-240-MFG.exe)
Installed latest Radio (Titan_Radio_3.27.00.exe )
Install DCD 2.3.1 (downloaded from this link): Size=37.16Mb
http://www.fileshex.com/download.php?file=1426af0da72a82fe758300e3980f7520
Got everything up and running. (Following directions from XDA forums)
Couldn't make a phone call. Send an SMS, or search the net on IE.
Figured out I needed to call Verizon for an A-key. (Authentication Key)
She asked why i needed it and I told her "i am doing some Windows Mobile sftware developing and had to do multiple HARD resets throughout the day). She said no prob and talked me through the A-key entry using ##778(I think its that. dont worry, CS will talk you through without hesitation.
Anyway. make sure you write the A-key down when customer service gives it to you cause its suppose to be the one assigned to your Phone number and should work every time you need to enter it. If it doesn't then just call them back and give them the same story and they will give you another A-key.
that fixed the data connection problem.
BTW: upgrading the Software deleted my Data connection password and user name.
Password is (Your 10 digit [email protected]) password is (VZW).
NOW, i am back to working conditions and DCD 2.3.1 is awesome.
Love the Iphone style SMS conversation format. Lets you view each conversation you have with a person in a straight separate list of texts. no more need to hop back and forth between Sent Box and Inbox to decipher conversations.
SO, everything works EXCEPT GPS. had all the settings right. like Location ON in Setting, Phone, Services Tab, Click on Location Settings, Get Settings, select "Location ON". Had Com 5 selected on software in external GPS settings. Hardware set to "None" 4800 Baud. Still nothing.
Google Maps keeps showing that its searching for satellites but to no avail.
Finally, came across a post about a free program called "GPS Today" Looked cool so gave it a shot.
Sure as **** it worked immediately. Got 5 satellites connected and there was the little blue dot on top of my house!!! YEEE HAAA
After a little trial and error i figured out the program.
Still i wanted Google Maps to work with GPS.
BA BA BA BAAAAAAA! I turned on Google Maps and all of a sudden it picked up 5 satellites and I was up and running.
Bottom line, I think GPS Today did something and it got Google Maps to start using GPS.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PUT UP AWESOME POSTS.
I think I might be retarded...
I did everything I think I was supposed to do, I unlocked, flashed the radio, then flashed DCD's ROM...
My screen says:
ROM Version dcd2.3.1
Radio Version 3.27.00
but, I can't get the GPS to work with TomTom6...
I tried using the GPSLauncher, AstroGPSLauncher, and QuickGPS...
Any ideas?

It will answer all your questions about GPS with Tom Tom
Everything seems to be in order now... Thanks everyone for all the advise... Now I'm going to play around and find an app that I like... I've tried TomTom (don't like it)... GoogleMaps is very basic but to be honest I'm looking for something a bit basic but functional as well which gMaps is not that functional as a GPS software plus it downloads from the net which seems to be a bit laggy... I'll find something but suggestions are welcome too...
Thanks again everyone...

When asking for help, would it be helpful to let others know what you are looking for in a GPS software? Basic but functional isn't a very good description.
TomTom6 paired with AstroGPSLauncher is a great combination. I don't have to start GMaps or other program to get the GPS going, I have GPS that doesn't have to have a data connection, for when I'm in the U.P. and there is no signal.
GoogleMaps is Basic in the sense that it is a 2D Map, which I like for use on the phone... Let's face it, this phone has a lot going on in the background besides just the GPS and Map app which to me makes it a bit slow and less responsive than normal when trying to process the graphical 3D maps... I don't need 3D mapping, virtual views or anything like that... A 2D Map is perfect... but GooleMaps lacks TTS, a decent search engine, Route recalculation, etc... which are characteristics of a good GPS unit... I like MioMaps for the fact that you can change your means of trasportation from car to bus to taxi to bike to pedestrian, etc, etc, etc... These types of options make more sence to me on a mobile device such as our phones since we could be traveling and need to switch from one means to another...
I'm going to look into MioMaps and see... but in the mean time, if anyone has other suggestions or experience with MioMaps on the Titan, your input would be greatly valued...
Keep on cookin'...

Hey... I think I remember you as "davidew98" on PPC6700users... am I right? We had all kinds of fun trying to dissect the 6700 through QPST... still have the thread bookmarked in Firefox.
I'll throw in a plug for Odyssey Mobile (http://www.infogation.com) as a navigation program that I really like. It came bundled with my Holux GPSlim 236 BT unit that I bought after I gave up on getting internal GPS to work with the 6700. The only thing it's missing that the others like TomTom have is text-to-speech... it doesn't say "Turn right on Main Street" but instead just says "Turn right in 200 feet". Other than that it does everything else really well.
And, I have had zero problems with it working with the 6800's internal GPS... just point Odyssey at COM port 4 and it just works... no launcher or "priming" required.

gps software?

wat gps works on the touch pro besides google maps and live maps ? ii heard igo8 and garmin work but havent found any solid leads could anybody point me in the rite direction thanks .
ps. if you know were i can download any of them pm me plz
Are you only looking for free software?
If your not, I use Tomtom which works well http://www.tomtom.com/
also I'm fond of GPS tuner http://www.gpstuner.com
Cheers
yeah im lookin for a craked version of igo8 or tom tom
any GPS software will work, I run Garmin XT
and I wouldnt ask for cracks on this board.
I don't know of a WM GPS package that does not work on the Touch Pro.
It's really a matter of finding which has the features you want from the many that are available.
If it might help you any, I made a list comparing features of Garmin Mobile XT versus Telenav versus Sprint Navigation here.
I could include other GPS navigation packages in that list if anyone else has used another enough to provide a response for each feature listed. Anyone with that knowledge can just leave a reply there in that thread and I'll update the initial post with the data when I can.
I got one that works just fine for me and I hope it helps you as well
I too run Garmin. Has anyone running Garmin noticed a slight lag with it or am I the only one?
Depends on the outcome youa re looking for
I use Live Search to get directions and to get posotions. The price is right and it has a cool speach feature that works well. If you want to track positions and loge where you are and were then I have found a great package that is free. Everytrail.com
Live Search : http://loco4local.com/
EveryTrail.com Cleint : http://www.everytrail.com/winmobile/
Again all are free.....

Anyone know where or if its possible to get a telenav download for free I'm new to windows mobile

TMC Works with copilot7 live on htc-rose

hi friends of the non-touch-phones !
since two weeks i am trying to get a working navigation software and tmc to work an this fine device , and now i have got it very god and very smooth
it is so simple, but you must get the idea.
if anyone are interessting in that , let me know and i give a little howto
Please just post the Howto here - anyone who'd need the info will be able to google it out - this is what really helps the community.
I am using Sygic Mcguider and i find it excellent I was very hesitant to move away from TomTom but as there is only work rounds for the TomTom I decided to use Mcguider and found it to be very accurate looks nice and does work !
For proper function of TMC in navigation, you must use a driver that is developing user beemerTPPC. Here is a link. There are versions available for PPC, but this version also works on the smartphone - just incorrectly displayed menu. The smartphone version is under construction, therefore, follow this link.
Did you have to do anything special in CoPilot? I've been unable to enable TMC in Copilot 8 because enabling TMC requires another licence key, which I think is crazy. I've asked CoPilot support about this and... no answer.

If you do not have a license for the TMC, then the function is unavailable. so it is in version 7, I assume that version 8 will be the same.

If you live in Montreal, I'd test copilot before buying, I charted 2 courses and the maps didn't detect one way streets. I tried turning on a one way because of it and had to do a 10 minute detour to get back on course... Be careful!
Navigon is another offline gps tool, but it's not out yet... It's great on the iphone though

hi, you should get Motonav, it uses the correct resolution and you can have Igo maps on it, since it's basically Igo for android
it's not free though, but you can always find a cracked version if you know how
Navigon 2.6.1 works great on my X10. I've tried almost all. Most of them look like crap or are laggy. I dont like the 'new' iGo. I've always used Igo in WinMO. The Android version kinda sucks.
Have a look here.. http://forum.mobilism.org/viewforum.php?f=653
Navigon is imo amazing great.
The full version needs no internet connection and i´ve never had lost the GPS-Signal (without by driving through a tunnel, but then it takes your last known Speed and it navigates you even there, provided you don´t increase your speed)
^^Sorry for my bad english ;-)
NDrive is great.

I'd prefer Sygic mobile maps
you dont need any internet connection, just your gps and a sd-card (for your maps)

Good website. I now use iGOMyWay_8.4.2.139242_Android_SLO app and TA-Q2.2010_us-can maps. It works wonderfully without wifi or cellular supports. You need to turn on the "Use GPS satellites" in Locatio&security settings.
