A few questions/requests. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been wondering if something could be done about these 3 things on SGS2:
1) Disable all camera sounds?
2) Contacts in SMS box from gmail - i dont want to have ANY contacts from Gmail on there (there are none in phonebook, just at SMS), i disabled sync contacts, but somehow they still got in there - how do i remove them and prevent them from getting in there?
3) Is there any way to lower the low battery warning - i want it to start at 10% instead of 15%?

1) yes
2)no idea
3)probably, ask a dev though (probably pulser and he can bake it into VRtweaks)

1) yes and use search its posted .
2)no idea likewise but search of SGS1 may help
3)probably, ask a dev though (probably pulser and he can bake it into
Likewise again a search OF SGS 1 forum may find answers .

Ok, i should have said if its possible WITHOUT rooting the phone. I dont like the idea of having the counter trigger cause i flashed a custom kernel (i know theres the jig, but im not that handy with a solder, nor do i have a store nearby with resistors or anyone that could sell me one either). Ill pm Pulser about the battery...

I can't do anything on a non rooted phone - there's no point in PMing me
It needs to be rooted with a custom ROM I'm afraid...

What if i did root it with Lite'ning Rom? Could you somehow make the warning go of later then (10% or 5%)?

Bump? Could it be done then Pulser?

No idea. I can't support other custom ROMs, as I don't know what's in them.
I can reduce or remove warnings, but I need you to show me EXACTLY which warning you want rid of, ideally with a screenshot, and description of how it manifests itself
I will then remove it

You know... the warning the phone gives you when it reaches 15% battery - to plug in your phone and charge it? Thats the default on all roms for SGS and SGS2... I want that to not bug me until its really necessary (10% or 5% would be fine).

Bump. 10char

Hmmm
Let me take a look

Yeah, I can do you 5%

VillainROM 1.1 now has an optional tweak via VRTweaks, to get a warning on 5% instead of 15%.

Oh thank you, now i dont have to listen to the annoying warnings an hour before i actually need to!

[Q] Can I remove the sound notification of fully recharged battery?

As the title says, I'd like the phone to not emit any sound when the charging process completes and the battery gets back to 100%.
I can't seem to find any option to disable the sound notification...
Thanks everyone,
TD
Same has been discussed more than once.
Not possible without rooting. If rooted, download and install Root Explorer or something and the path is,
system/media/audio/UI/Tw_Low_Battery.ogg, change it to Tw_low_Battery.ogg.bak. If you want it back sometime then just remove the .bak extension.
Regards.

Not quite true. As a workaround, I used EasyProfiles to create a night profile that, amongst other things, switched off all sound and vibrations for everything except phone calls and alarms. No more buzzing when the battery charge gets to 100%

[Q] Android OS question?

I'm rooted & on stock firmware ICS 4.0.3 XWLP7, I recently flashed JKays framework & deluxe settings for this firmware & I'm not really sure if that bares any significance to my problem! I'm experiencing quite high CPU usage (between 35%-45%! even if I kill all running processes/applications) over the last week or so & wondered if this is normal? I've also tried wiping battery stats & dalvik cache, & athough it helps a little, it only last for a small period of time, like an hour or so!? If someone could give me any clues as to why this may be happening I'd be greatfull!!

You should let your battery run down until it's almost dead and then show bbs stats.
Your phone is not sleeping properly because something is causing kernel wakelocks. You should Google those first 2 kernel wakelocks to try and find out what is causing them. The first one is related to apps and data usage. Use titanium backup to freeze rogue apps causing them.

Thats why i posted what i posted (and as i said, i dont use bbs myself)
From what I can gather (I might be wrong!) my problem seems to be related to data traffic, here: https://github.com/asksven/BetterBatteryStats-Knowledge-Base/wiki/svnet-dormancy
Does anyone know how to track down which app or service in particular may be be causing it?
TIA! ;
Based on your earlier post you will probably ignore this:
Are you switching your 2g/3g data OFF when not using the phone?
If you leave it on, loads of apps have the chance to check for updates/synchronise
turn off auto updates, syncing, wifi, 3g and anything else related to accessing the net for information

I don't think you can actually find which app it is without freezing all your user apps and trying one by one, which would be a pain. You could try reflashing clean and reinstalling all your apps clean. Could just freeze any apps you think might be the culprit and try one by one to narrow it down. Could also use Tasker or some other app to better control your data so you are not always connected. I leave my data off at all times and only turn it on when I am doing something that needs it.

Thanks, I thaught as much when I mentioned trying to narrow it down to a particular app! I've turned data transfer off when not using the phone now & I must say that it's made a significant difference, but I still don't fully understand why it started eating my battery/data all of a sudden like that, when I didn't change anything on the phone but install JKays framework & deluxe settings prior to this problem !
I like to receive my emails which is one reason for keeping data turned on, & I usually have it on GSM only unless I use the net without Wi Fi when I'm out & about!
I suppose I can only try different fixes & try & work out the best solution specific to my use of the phone huh!?

Battery not lasting more than 2 hours

Hey guys, im kinda new to android but im not new to computers... so please dont say stuff like turn off wifi or turn off bluetooth and gps
I have disabled S Voice, S planner, And most of the crappy samsung stuff. I have only 2 email accounts connected to my gmail app and yes my auto sync is on. My phone is not rooted and i do not intend to do so ever. I just want to use the stock rom and launcher..
So the problem im facing is horrible battery life. I generally fully charge my phone till 10pm and dont use it overnight... then in the morning i just listen to some music on the way to school for about 1 hour and 30 minutes (yes i know my school is very far away from my house). then my phone is on standby for like 6-8 hours. and then at about 3pm i use it again for music and facebook n stuff... by 4:30pm i only have 20-30% battery left with only 1 hour and 50 minutes of screen on time..
please help me to increase the battery life because im pretty sure that its supposed to last much longer.
PS nfc, voice command, google now, wifi, gps, bluetooth etc is off.
1. Using auto sync kills the battery. It is constantly checking for emails, syncing with Google, Facebook etc etc... this might be one of the reasons.
2. I suggest you put the screen brightness on auto. one of the biggest battery consumption of now a days smartphones are the big screens.
3. Try to upgrade your phone to a newer version, that might help either. some people report that after upgrading to a newer version, the battery life improved for them.
4. Turn of Mobile Data. This is a HUGE battery drainer!
That is what I can think of.
I hope I managed to help you

Well dud i would take it to a service centre .
As you don't want to root then the only XDA device is to factory reset .
You can of course try a Samsung forum for more advice that does not involve root .

The most updated version is 4.1.2...
Facebook/Whatsapp/Viber/Tango, all these programs consume alot of battery as they need to wake the phone and check for notifications (messages etc... ). I'm not saying don't install them, I'm saying you shouldn't have the Mobile Data turned on all the time. I'm assuming you don't send a message every second, right? Or check the email every second? (and I also assume that you are not a business man since you go to school...) The world won't collapse if you don't check your email/Facebook/Whatsapp every 5 seconds. That is my advice to you, you can choose to accept it or reject it, its your choice.

i understand what u are saying. However i cant find any option to tell the gmail app to fetch my email every half an hour or so like it is in iPhone (in iphone u can choose ur fetch time). I dont get notificaions every second and even every hour for that matter but i need mobile data on for whatsapp atleast and i have already turned off facebook sync i.e. it only looks for notifications. i dont have viber or tango installed.
and do u really think mobile data is using up all my battery coz i saw this website that said the s3 can give up to 6 hours of web surfing.

If you drop down the notification window, u should find there a Sync option. disable it. That should do it for the Sync issue.
You can't understand how much battery turning off Mobile Data saves...
Trust me, people won't go nuts if you don't answer them just as you receive the message
So you can chat with your friends, but don't forget to turn off Mobile Data, so it won't consume a lot of battery
AW: Battery not lasting more than 2 hours
I have had the same problem so I flashed the Siyah kernel and even overclocked it to 1,7 ghz. Awkwardly my battery lasts much much longer now. About 2 days of average usage.

so do u prefer i turn on wifi instead? does that use less battery than 3G?
and i know how to disable sync!
Looking at your screen shots there appears nothing wrong with your phone, it's doing exactly what Samsung intended it to do as a 'connected hub for your online life' - but it will eat your battery as the phone is working and communicating all the time while you're not using it.
Either live with a charger close at hand or disable the 30 or so rubbish apps and services they included to burn through your battery. Who cares about OTA updates, delete your Samsung account, check your facebook using the browser instead of an app etc.
I get 2 days use from one charge with at least 6 to 8 hours screen on time included, but my phone is only awake when I turn the screen on, doing what I want it to do - not amusing it's self when turned off. That requires a custom ROM or rooting at least to kill the persistant stock apps.
Using wifi instead of 3G will reduce power consumption quite a bit, especially if your 3G signal is weak.

Even if you don't use the Samsung apps & services they are still running in the background, you are certainly using the Facebook app as it ate a large amount of your battery. Disable the facebook app and instead use the browser to check it just when you need to, this is just an example btw - it won't solve your overall problem.
I use Vikingway ROM, which is a very stripped down version of stock so everything still works. It should double your battery life, but your online social life will suffer.

Install AppQuarantine
Disable Maps and Facebook. Them to alone cause most battery station with absolutely no use. You mentioned you use Facebook often.. Use a widget to quick enable+open/disable Facebook for example.
Facebook uses 5% battery just like that. Maps up to 15%
Whenever you reboot your device look at running apps. Almost everything should be killed except Google services.
Manage what syncs. Limit Google syncing to gmail only.
And then some
Root:
Root your S3. Use SetCPU profiles when screen is off 200-300 ondemand governor. Under volt if necessary for that extra up to 5%.
International S III 16GB / Dualboot 4.1.2 Stock & Cyanogenmod 10.1 / Gokhan's SK
I seem to get varying degrees of battery life. Was getting great battery life with Perseus kernel, then all of a sudden after restoring from a nandroid backup it went terrible.
Mayeb going to switch back to siyah kernel and follow some of the battery life threads

Ya i already know about that i was just needing help with sometype of list that i can completely remove and not worry about haveing a non working ROM. Thxs for the short litle list you did give me.
I wouldn't disable/delete the phone or contacts apps......I did that on my old phone once (for exactly the same reason as you....turn it into a pocket gaming device) and I kept getting (once every couple of seconds) an error message that said something like......"process .com android phone has stopped". I guess *some* processes/apps (even if unused) can't be got rid of......
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM

Can you make an apk dissapear from batt stat ?

Hi forum.
Just a little question, as we have some new strange problems with an APK...
Is it in anyway opssible to make a APK dissapear from the battery status/usage page ?
- or perhaps to make it look like it is an other piece of software that is using the power ? (eg. look like Android-OS or screen instead)
I have no interrest in doing that, it is just a question that was raised in a disscussion among friends, and we canĀ“t seem to find the answer on www...

The software have earlyer used a LOT of battery, about 70% actually !!!
- now the developer have made an update, and now the usage is under 1-2% (fantastic improvement:good, but it seems like "Android-OS" is using a lot of power instead now...
That just made us speculate if it was possible to "mask up" or "hide" the actual usage ?!?
It seems like the phones have not really gained that mutch more battery after the update, i feels like the usage is somehow still the same as earlyer, and that is really strange we think...
