GREAT!!!!!
You know how some people have seen 3G on some iPhones on T-Mobile?
You think this has something to do with it? You can check tmonews for the article btw.

Only some in certain areas. However, it seems it is because of a "refarming" of the 1900 band, which kind of goes along with the $1 billion AT&T is giving (out of the 4) to DT in spectrum... If that occurs, T-Mobile could finally have the iPhone, whether some like it or not, and I think that's a no brainer that it would bring quite some more revenue.
I'm sorry I'm a noob and don't understand by refarming. I do know that att owns the 1900 band

At&t owns part of the 1900 band. T-Mobile also uses that band, along with i wireless, and many many providers around the country. (Including cdma carriers)
They are licensed for so much of that band. In mhz. The more the mhz, the more "room" they have. If they have 40mhz, they can refarm part for 3g and part for 2g instead of just using a little bit for 2g.

There is no guarantee that the roaming agreements are between tmous and at&t, could be dutch telkom and at&t. Which would be an international roaming agreement. There is also no guarantee that tmous will see any of the 3bill in cash tk gets from the deal either.. We can only hope at this point, and wait and see..

The roaming agreements are for t-mobile usa.
This is the roaming info from the just released D.T. press release.
"The UMTS roaming agreement for the U.S. in T-Mobile USA’s favor has a term of over seven years and will allow the company to improve its footprint significantly among the U.S. population and offer its customers better broadband coverage for mobile communications services in the future. Population coverage will increase from 230 million potential customers at present to 280 million. As a result of the agreement with AT&T, coverage will be extended to many regions of the U.S. in which T-Mobile USA previously had neither its own high-speed mobile communications network nor the associated roaming agreements."

Unfortunately this isn't as good news as people think, tmobile is still only focused on the bottom line. I'm sure DT wants to get as much as they can out of tmobile before they sell it. It's a terrible environment to work in and it sucks for customers dealing with more and more out sourcing. There's a lot of negatives to tmobile just being abandoned by DT I was hoping it would go through. I'd just hate to see sprint try to buy tmobile I hate them and it would make all kinds of messed up network problems. There was talk about dish network being interested in a partnership I wonder what the hell that would look like. I hope DT would change there mind and try to compete in the US picking up the iPhone and building out network would go a long way for a company that has great prices and already great android devices.

Well, if it helps any. D.T. Announced today they decided to consider t-mobile usa as "continuing operations" due to the failed merger.
Yea hope they do it was tough for tmobile to compete due to not having as much coverage as the big guys and not being as low priced as the little guys but I think this failed merger could help now with the coverage to make tmobile more dominant

This is amazing news, I don't see Google buying tmobile since they bought part of Motorola something a company owning a wireless provider and a manufacturer. Look for the tmobile iPhone to come in possible end of 1 quarter or early second quarter.
I'm thinking DT won't sell now but look for a partenership with other company like dish network since they have some spectrum now.

While I can't really disagree with your premise, I have trouble agreeing with your wish that the merge went through. I’ve tried AT&T twice - hated their service, hated their customer service even more - and left them voluntarily (btw, I’m in metro-Detroit and my son is in LA, both of us had the same experience). Taking over T-Mobile no doubt would have resulted in a much larger coverage area for existing T-Mo customers (I have to roam onto AT&T networks at my cottage in Mid-Michigan, for example), but at the sacrifice of quality of service and the extreme sacrifice of customer service. Their contempt for customers, IMHO, is palpable. If you prefer the advantages that AT&T brings, and there are genuinely many, you can simply join them. But by destroying the advantages T-Mobile provides, again IMHO, it leaves a very large hole in the cellular system for consumers and absolutely will increase costs.
The problem now, I fear, is that this takeover attempt has all but destroyed T-Mo and I’m not very confident that it will survive in anything close to its current incarnation. Whether that’s a long-term improvement or not only time will tell. But I hate to see the decline in T-Mobile USA. They’ve been a very good provider for me.
BTW, the reason I even saw this thread considering the fact that I have a Touch Pro2 is that my current two year commitment is up in January and I’ve pretty much decided on an Amaze so I’ve been monitoring the Amaze thread for more than a month. I’m anxious to try my first Android device and all of you have only served to increase my excitement – thanks!

It only makes sense for DT to try to improve coverage and market share for TMo US at this point. The AT&T deal had a big premium over what TMo was worth on a stand-alone basis, and it is highly unlikely they will see any offers anywhere near that now.
However, DT (and other German firms also) has a history of badly managing subsidiaries in the US (and even other EU countries), so I am not going to hold out too much hope that they will get their act together this time.

The amaze is a great choice for android. The sense interface makes it a bit easier, but what i think is most important, is the amaze 4g supports both 850 and 1900mhz HSPA+ and tmobile. Most of the tmo phones that support at&t's bands only have 1900mhz. Consider this phone future proof in that regard. (Since im told at&t uses both 850 and 1900 for 3g/HSPA across the country)
I was told by an undisclosed source from motorola that the reason the mopho isnt getting ics till late this year is because of the "wimax slash lte " change. Also was told that the phone was manufactured with 2 different radio chipsets and those who dont have the wimax lte chipset will be replaced with ones that do or be given the option to upgrade early to one. Like i said this is coming from a undisclosed source. So take it as u will until its released its just a rumor.

I could see them doing that. My mom was offered an early upgrade due to Verizon buying out altell. Also my brother got an early upgrade 4 months after he signed a contract through either at&t or sprint or some major carrier due to technology change or contract revisions. Either way I'm pretty sure if I called sprint after they release their first LTE phone I would most likely be able to get it at least as an early upgrade and I just signed in February. I was paying a forced charge of 10 extra a month for the ability to use 4G that I don't even have in my area lol after a few phone calls to sprint I now get a credit of $10 on each bill. They can't take it off my bill but they have it set up to automatically apply each month. Sprint can be major push overs

Howd you manage the $10 credit.. its a "premium data plan" or whatever they call it, it nowhere actually calls out 4g, for mine atleast. I mean it started around time they launched their WiMax so in reality it is essentially a 4g charge but worded without actually it claiming to be that anywhere in writing. And as far as a second Photon with LTE coming im somewhat skeptical.. I guess that *might* explain the EOL announcement to the Photon we have now..? Still don't quite think that there will be a LTE Photon for Sprint though.. And im sure if you raise enough hell with Sprint that'd they'd be semi useful for once and be able to help you out with upgrading early to a LTE device once their network is up.
Well according to a few sprint employees i spoke to, when the mopho gets ics the lte update will come with it..but thats just what they say, i doubt it but i sure hope its true..and the $10 monthly fee is just because its a smart phone and uses more data "premium data" charge..

Lol well our current Photons have no LTE radio hardware.. So ICS (if we actually do end up getting it) won't be able to bring us LTE, UNLESS they release a whole new version of Photon with newer/different radios. We have the Beceem BCSM350-L radio in our Photons.. aka no LTE capability..
To be fair my source works for motorola and is in the hardware division so unless u opened the photon and seen it was the 350 which it is not. We will all see. And motorola has no plans im aware of of making a photon 2.

Ericsson being Sprints full time site maintenance since Sprint no longer does it themselves....
you doing RF i dont even want to guess what you know. lol
My dad used to be a technician for Sprint. He lost his job due to downsizing by Ericsson. It's a shame because he was probably their best technician in the DFW area. Several of his fellow technicians would call him if they needed help.
I'm pretty sure the WiMax roll out is no indication of how LTE will roll out. Sprint used Clearwire's in-place WiMax network as their 4G network. I was lucky enough to already have Clearwire in this area. The only tangible advantage I had was the fact it was faster than public wifi. I don't expect LTE to reach Wichita Falls for at least a year.

Hi,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615844&highlight=lte
Briefly, people who did the teardown say no, some people have allegedly reviewed emails from Moto saying yes (but they have supplied no supporting evidence).
If you want a safe answer today as part of deciding whether to upgrade, then Answer - NO, not LTE. If you want to wait, Answer likely still = No.
Even if it has the chip, I personally cannot imagine that Moto and Sprint will do the SW upgrade and network provisioning for a 1-year old phone.
Better yet. Read the Photon Compendium. In the Specs section it answers that question so then nobody has to post anything.
EDIT:
In another thread I posted what is as close to a layman's guide as your going to get as to why even though it may be possible, it is legally and economically unfeasible. It went ignored by pretty much everybody but devs and those with RF experience. I guess I need to copypasta that post in the compendium and start linking it in inch tall red letters every time this come up.
This question is personally starting to make me puke! (Sorry) It's been asked, answered, documented no less than 15 times. Every developer here has tried to explain this but no one listens. Done!

Where is this spec sheet that says it can do LTE? I highly doubt it says that. Even if the chip supports LTE, it won't have the correct LTE band class 26 antennas that is needed to support PCS LTE. I don't feel like explaining in more detail but trust me, the Photon does NOT support LTE.

Thanks. Somebody else the understands RF!
So far I've killed a Photon, explained antenna design, explained RF, explained the legal aspects. Rumors are a hard thing to kill my friend, hard to kill indeed.
wi-maxx only :crying: dope ass phone though

Sorry if I offended any dev cause that wasn't my intent! I've seen mixed reviews and also a spec sheet that states LTE: YES. I'm probably going to upgrade but it would be nice if it was.
I was just so hopeful lol!

These guys did a really good job of being nice answering this. They are right, and I am sure in the future you will look a little deeper. But sometimes if you aren't frequently in the forums you can miss topics like this.
Anyway, be glad that Photon owners/devs are generally nicer people. I used to have an Evo 4G and there were some real assholes over there.

HAHAHA That's right, I almost forgot you were like Switzerland in that whole debacle. I was very much in the Orrebmas camp. Anyway, I am much happier here.

Plug the photon in and look in device manager, it has an LTE modem period. There is no argument here, find it for yourself. Sprint will have LTE but not for awhile, as for the Photon working on it, who knows, but I am damn sure that it is capable of it. If you are asking a Sprint Rep any questions about a phone, 97.38782% of them don't know much about them, yes there are a few who actually do their homework on each and every phone they come across but that is few and far between. ( And in case you work at Sprint and you are reading this, don't take it personal, I'm just saying that most reps sell phones, they don't study them and know them inside and out) As for Motorola, who knows, it all depends on who you talk to, but I would believe one of them over a random Sprint rep who 'sells' phones for a living, being that Motorola actually built the thing.
But all you really need to do is plug it in and look for yourself.

Send screen shot please as I have spent over an hour looking and I see no mention of LTE!
Click on Exhibit 9. Above the board battery is the Beeceem radio. It has been verified numerous times that the radio is the Beceem BCSM350-L which is NOT lte. The post referenced by the OP supposedly showing a lte modem also shows up on a number of Moto devices including the Droid X2. The FACT is that the Photon has a BCSM350 radio. If needed, I will destroy my phone and post high-res images of every chip on the board to kill this stupid rumor.

probably not true, but i'll jump ship to sprint if that happens
I have nobody to share my data with lol
I'm still on contract till 11/13 . But yeah I can totally see myself sharing data with myself. Sounds legit!:good:
If that does happen, they have to let us out with no ETF. More likely, they'll just stop letting people keep it when their contract expires or when they renew, even if they pay full retail for a phone. They stand to lose an awful lot of customers if they were to just yank it from everybody that still has it, not to mention the internet and media backlash. Then again, it's just that: a rumor.

Even if it is true, April, 2013 isn't all that soon. But the Verizon CFO hasn't blabbed about it so it can't be true.

If they just change your data plan during your contract.. Hello cancellation w/ no ETF!
I'll tell you someone's who getting out of his contract for free if that happens.
Me.
I'm supposed to have unlimited until January of 2014.

That's exactly what I said. And not only that line but every line on your account can cancel if they force them into a shared plan since it affects every line. But I seriously doubt they will just yank them. They have millions of customers with grandfathered plans and millions of those customers will just pack up their phones and leave if that happens. Overnight they could shrink to the number 2 service provider. I'm not saying they'll let us keep our data plans forever, but they're not going to yank everybody at once either because it doesn't make a bit of business sense. It makes a ton more business sense to just let contracts run out and in less than 2 years they won't have any grandfathered subscribers. They may not be making as much money off of people with unlimited data plans but I'm sure that the vast majority of them are still profitable customers and therefore it's better to hang on to them.
To the people that say it's going to happen soon, proof or GTFO.
To reiterate what others have said. I don't think they can just do that, without the contract becoming null and void, if that is the case, then its a breech of contact on their part. They would have to let us out of the contract withput paying ETFs.
My contract is up Nov 2013 and I was told as long as I don't upgrade then I will.be fine.

So were you guys gonna go? Sprint? Good luck with that you forget how fast Verizon's network is and what 3G is like.. Remember you get what you pay for. Just saying...

But April 13 is a long way off. The networks or even companies can shift. Remember there for like 2 years every phone company either sold or bought each other out? In the next year I see companies merging to combat Verizon and not to mention Google's allegedly planned network.

Not that I'm leaving but sprint has lte where I live and so does at&t. If Verizon forces me off unlimited, then I would have to weigh my options.
Doubt we would hear anything about that until closer to next summer.

I am starting to think about Tmo $30 monthly plan. Only 100 minutes, but who cares with groove ip and Google voice. Unlimited data, 4G speed for first 5 gigs. Order a sim for $1 and flash a gsm rom and I am half the price I am paying now.

damn, if verizons 3g network is as slow and ****ty as it is where i am, i can only imagine how bad sprint etc are...then again, verizons is pretty awful, and i get like full service with under 1mbps download lol

So, ICS for the Rezound was a rumor? Because that hasn't happened?
Oh Wait, though, you might be right. Anything to boost profits will happen, so let's see... ICS OTA for the Rezound makes no money for Verizon (Except back when we were promised it and people bought the phones based on that promise. Shared data plan makes astronomical profits for Verizon, so, likely to happen.
UGH. When will the day everyone would be willing to band together and call Verizon and say "Cancel my contract for your lack of commitment and services and promises for updates." The only action that would ever change Verizon's mind on doing what they do. It all comes back to the idea that Verizon has no incentive to give back what they've took and to make ridiculous plans. People continue to buy, buy, buy their phones and sign contracts.
In the end, it's not Verizon's fault. It's the fault of American Greed. no one does anything about it, so companies, like Verizon, continue to play the game and profit off the lack of revolt for practices.

Sprints 3G was around 56k or less. My old dial up modem would have kicked its ass.

When more carriers become available more widespread in areas . The only reliable coverage I get in South Dakota where I live and travel to visit back home, is Verizon. Sprint / AT&T are spotty. T-Mobile doesn't exist.
When T-Mobile or Sprint finishes rolling out their LTE networks, will the Rezound be capable of running on either of them?
