Well it depends in what rom you are going to flash some rom supports amonra and some cwm. Both are good.

Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App

First thing u do is take a backup.
Than wipe all for first time flashing.
Wipe dalvic cache and wipe cached when u switch between same rom. (Like upgrade).

Thanks for that link. I was able to use it to easily switch between AmonRa and ClockworkMod. It didn't work going from AmonRa 2.2.1 -> ClockworkMod 3.1.0.0, but I was able to go to 3.0.2.4, and back and forth from there. It is a lot easier to try different recoveries this way!

For this you will have to switch to amonra again. And you can restore your back up.
Other way is to first switch to cwm on your desired rom. Then take a nandroid backup via cwm. Then for restoring you will not have to go to amonra.

Does anyone know what the difference between CWM 3.0.2.4 and 3.1.0.0 is? I made a bunch of backups on 3.1.0.0, but it is easier to switch between 3.0.2.4 and AmonRa then it is to do the same for 3.1.0.0, so I was thinking of using those 2 (when I need to use 1 vs the other), but I wanted to be sure my backup will still work with the older CWM

So you are saying, when we plan to switch frm amonra to cwn, first we have to flash cwm3.0.2.4 then flash cwm3.1.0.0 to work smoothly.

To be more specific, I'm saying that with the zips provided in the link, I got an error when trying to flash CWM 3.1.0.0 when running AmonRa 2.2.1. I was able to successfully reflash the 3.1.0.0 zip from a running CWM env, and was able to flash the 3.0.2.4 zip from AmonRa. So at least on my P509, I can't go directly from AmonRa->CWM 3.1.0.0 (vice versa works fine).
But yes, you can do:
AmonRa 2.2.1->CWM 3.0.2.4->CWM 3.1.0.0 using the zips provided
There is probably little reason for most to use both; play with them and choose one. For some of the stuff I'm working on, there are features of each I need though, so I've been going back and forth.

I flashed cwm 3.1 over amonra 2.2.1 without any problem.

You can make your backup and flash your backup using cw it really simple.the backups take up a ton of space so you might want a bigger SD card. I keep one backup on my phone and I move the rest to my computer

K.I flashed 3.0.2 then installed rom manager flashe3.1.0 using rom manager without any pro problem.

Just download the tenfar CMW and use fastboot to flash it again
fastboot flash recovery (then use file name you downloaded)
Make sure the recovery.img is in the same directory as the fastboot.exe file. Makes it easier.
Thank u

You're welcome!
The tenfar recovery is better, it allows you to access the sd-ext and install zips from it. Whereas the clockwork one doesn't give you that option.

Post 59 has a Clockwork flashable zip that will load Telfars recovery. Save you some time and no need to mess with fastboot.

Also I assume you're saying that the zip can be installed FROM Khoulk safely?

[Q] Can I do this to flash a CM ROM?

Hi, I'm really new to this Android thing and a friend bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace. He's worst than me and doesn't know what a ROM is..
Well, I want to install THIS CyanogenMod but it says the phone needs to be in 2.3.* and my friend's is in 2.2.1.
I searched how to update to 2.3.* and I thought updating to 2.3.3 by flashing THIS VillainROM will work.. and after this ROM, put ClockWorkMod (required by the CM) and flash the CM..
I want to know if this will work or if I'll brick my friend's phone (I prefer bricking my phone rather than my friend's). Hope to hear some reponse soon, thanks!
VillanROM is fine
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
Ok, so Will this procedure end up fine?
I would also like you to provide me with some guide to install ClockWorkMod if I don't have adb or that thing..
Did you ever bother to check the forums, or at least forum search
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
Yes I checked, but when I go to the instructions HERE it says
"Nothing found for Groups Samsung-Galaxy-Ace Forum Topic....
This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.!"
So please help!
There is a trick like reading the second post of the thread too
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
I'm Not familuar with your Galaxy phone but as it is samsung you should be able to you odin or swupdate to flash any SUPPORTED rom. Also first thing I have done with any phone regardless of manufacture is obtain root then flash recover and lastly flash the rom of your choice.
Not much help but hope it gives some direction
MOST IMPORTANT read extensivly about anything you are considering flashing BEFORE you do it. $500 dollar paper weights are over rated
Well, thanks for help but I have another problem
I connected the phone to Skies and it said a Firmware update was available. I updated the phone and ended with 2.3.4.
I was very happy and thought: "Great! I have 2.3.4 so now I can put the CWM and install the CyanogenMod "
I copied the CWM to the SD and installed it through recovery. When I tried to enter the CWM App it said I needed Superuser acess and the app closes..
I tried using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 and also opening in recovery mode and selecting "install .zip from SD" with a .zip supposed to root 2.3.4 but none of them worked..
What should I do? HELP!

The CWM 4.0.0.9 download was attached to the bottom of the first posy .
SuperOneClick is for Froyo .
Go to recovery and install zip from SD and choose the CWM 4.0.0.9 file .

I have CWM installed, but don't have Superuser access, no root.. How do I root now?
You don't need root. Flash the clockworkmod recovery and you're all set for the final rom flashing.

Recovery mode
"Install zip from SD card" NOT "Install update from SD card"
Select your CyanogenMod zip file
Wait for it to finish
Reboot device
Happy days =)
Make a backup though first!!!!!

[Q] Any problems with the installation of cmw?

I don't know if install cwm is a risk for my device
Someone had have some problem with this?
thanks in advance
sorry, CWM
No problem or such. Flash newest CWM. And if you screw up anything then you can reflash using Odin to stock fiemware. By doing so stock recovery will replace CWM.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
I have heard it can brick if not done right. Best way to do it is to install the ClockWorkModAce.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
this ClockWorkModAce.zip it's better than ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.6??
any one will do. Just don't use rom manager.
ClockWorkModAce.zip is CWM 4.0.0.9
The other one is CWM 5 obviously..
The only thing is that u can restore Backups made with CWM 4 with CWM 5 but not the other way around! And some Custom ROMs require the latest CWM 5
Just what i told you
jajaja i know

[Q] Cwm vs Twrp

Im wondering do these programs work the same and by that I mean will devs have to make two seperate files for each recovery or will they both handle the same .zip files
same
I'll confirm that they both flash the same packages. Only reason to use one over the other really is personal preference.
problem twrp wont zip files getting error messages
I unlock my device on rev3 boot into twrp and try to flash the jelly bean rom and I keep getting error failed can not find md5 file
I prefer TWRP because it uses a touch interface.

No, backups from one don't work with the other.
Twrp because you can rename the backup file plus all touch screen

CWM
I always use clockwork mod because i found a few mods that cant be flashed with twrp.
Since I went to twrp on my HP Touchpad I really prefer it over cwm. I used cwm on all my droid devices..... But twrp is so user friendly. Just my two pennies.

Recovery mode question..

I rooted my fone a week ago with TWRP as my recovery mode.. Then I rerooted my fone to replace the TWRP recov with clockworkmod recov.. now I was going through my storage and found out that there is a folder of the old TWRP which takes 1.+Gb.. I was kinda thinking of deleting it.. would it be alright if I just delete it straight or would it affect my current mod if it got deleted..
Currently on cm9.1
Any help would be very much appreciated.. cheers
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It has the TWRP backups.
Don't think I would really need my backup in that one as I've backed my system up using the clockworkmod before flashing cm9
