what file can you find the ftf file for a rom? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when you open a .zip/.rar file where exactly can I find the ftf file so i can switch roms using flash tool? I ask because some roms the ftf file is easy to find and other times i cant find it.

you need to change the ROM using xrecovery. If you are after the ftf files for changing baseband you can find them all in this link. You change the baseband using flashtool

Can't return to stock rogers rom!

Hi guys, Im trying to bring my phone back to rogers stock firmware and I can't seem to do it. I downloaded the unbricker tool and the firmware, which has 2 files named "1" and "2". I got no idea how to use the firmware with the unbricker tool, so can someone help me?
Thanks in Advance
Sounds like you downloaded the SEUS firmware files and you are trying to use the debricker tool which requires .sin files.
You can use the 1 and 2 file with SEUS software by following the instructions in that thread. You basically need to replace the files in a directory for SEUS while it's downloading them. One file is 16mb and the other is 125mb+. There may be a better firmware for you to download for use with the debricker.
wait im confused by your post can you try and maybe explain it a bit clearer? thanks
The 1 and 2 file are for use with the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) and not the debrick process. You'll need the Rogers files that are intended for use with the debricker and not the ones you have.
It is possible to use the 1 and 2 files to restore your phone to stock but it's more complicated and I'd suggest just getting the correct files.
I believe you need the first file (WWE_R1FA014 under X10a) in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
okay and do I replace all the files? because when I tried to only replace the ones already there, it gave me the exclamation mark and I had to go back to the debranded version.
Read the thread for decrypted roms. You need to replace the .sin files from the flash tool with the .sin files from the firmware version you downloaded from that page. Then run the flah tool with the new files in it. Its pretty simple once you figure it out.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
do I only replace the .sin files? and do I add the extra .sin files in?
Files 1 and 2 are not files that we are looking for. That link bring us wrong files.
Now do one thing download flash tool from here http://hotfile.com/dl/44983907/9d54b5e/XIOFUB.rar.html
Then downlaod files from this link http://hotfile.com/dl/43225669/598ad...4_DEK.zip.html.
The file we download from this link has two folders.extract them then copy files from them to flash tool folder. Then root your xperia x10 and you are ready with RB014 original one. You can update it from SEU. EASY!
hmm, everytime I replace the files, my xperia x10 gets the bricked picture. Do I HAVE to root it before reflashing?
edit: there is an "update.xml" file in the android.... folder and the phone folder. Which one do I use?

In the Rogers rom file, there should be two zip files in there.
- android_1233-6929_R11A_R1FA014.zip
- phone.zip
Now
- Unzip the flashtool first, and then unzip the phone.zip to the flashtool folder and replace any files it prompts.
- Unzip android_1233-6929_R11A_R1FA014.zip and replace any files it prompts.
- Rename or delete System.sin and userdata.sin inside the flashtool folder.
- Rename system_S1-SW-LIVE-AC12-0001-S1-PARTITION-WITH-SPARE.sin to system.sin
- Rename userdata_S1-SW-LIVE-AC12-0001-S1-PARTITION-WITH-SPARE.sin to userdata.sin
Try to flash the phone again see if this will work (Just tried it yesterday, it worked for me.)

How to extract .ftf file??

Any one know how? or how to add and remove a file in the .ftf in flashtools?
1.Unpack .ftf file(as .zip or .rar) to get the file : system.sin
2.Use SIN2IMG.exe to transfer system.sin into system.img
3.Use unyaffs.exe to upack the system.img into resources you need
You can download SIN2IMG & unyaffs from the Internet
It's not an easy thing to add resources into .ftf file
Actually,Linux enviornment is required to pack the resources into .img file
But you may use Cygwin(HTC [email protected]) to help you do such things.

Thanks, now how do I repack it to .ftf ?
i need the same help
Unless you are modifying the baseband or kernel, it may be easier to make an xrecovery zip from system.img once you unpack and modify it however you want to.
Seems all 2.3.3 SE roms are on the same kernel/BB so if you're on the right ones already all you'll need is an xrec zip to build the rest. If you are on an older/different kernel/BB then Doomlord has an ftf package with just those 2 things & detailed instructions on how to get it going.

can you help with this, am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks for the links i already got guides to make my own rom.Am using dsixda' android kitchen and as the per the instruction given. For xperia x10
"First reinstall a Android 2.1.
Then root it.
Install a XRecovery.
Then backup it.
Now you will get system.img in backup folder."
My doubt is wether this backup should be dont with the stock rom itself or can i use an existing custom rom?And if it should be from stock rom then is it enough use the system.img file obtain by extracting ftf and then using sin2img?

Making a ftf file

Quick question I have used sus to re-flash my current fw, looked in the db/numbers folder and have 4 files. All the guides I have read say grab 3 files and decrypt with flashtool to make ftf file. Is the fourth file important and should I add it to flashtool as well.

The two biggest files are important, you can ignore the other ones
sorry to hijack this thread but didn't see the point in creating a new thread about something that could be answered in here.
Ive also looked up guides to create a ftf file but the guides are based on the Xperia Z phone not tablet and some guides recommend leaving out some .sin or .ta files when using flashtool to create the ftf.
Does the same apply to the Z tablet or should I just include all .sin and .ta in my newly made ftf file?
Im creating a 370 firmware version for the SGP312 WIFI 32GB GB/B version
Thx for any help

[Q] Edit FTF or files from XperiFirm ?

Hello guys! Is there any way to edit the FTF file (or the files downloaded from XperiFirm) in order to completely remove a specific app from the vendor folder so that it wont appear after flashing the FTF?

No. Once a FTF file has been extracted it can't be recompiled into a workable FTF again.
Just root your phone, at the very most it'll take 45 minutes to get it back to where you had it customized before.

When you are using Windows with standard settings and you rename the file, you will get filename.ftf.zip because you don't see the extention with standard settings. Use a different file explorer like Total Commander to rename the file or change the settings to show file extentions in Windows.

thnx bro, but it was not the problem of extension , actually Flashtool took time to "get devices sync with github" something like this, after that it worked like charm
