i have lookout running on my mini and i eas wondering if I really need it. it never finds anything.
what do you guys think? i a anti virus really useful? or does it just cause ram?
X10mini miniCM7 2.0.1 using XDA Premium App
i also use lookout, and i think that it's better to have some kind of protection. i'm on froyocomb which is a quite fast ROM, so when lookout is running i don't even notice it.
but yes, it also never found anything...
Also using lookout, for about 6 months now. Hasn't found anything yet. I'm actually thinking of freezing (to use only for on demand scanning)/uninstalling it since I'm pretty careful anyway with what I install on my phone.
Nothing I ever used found anything.
Actually, except for just one time about 5 or 6 years ago on symbian, i never found anything on any platform. Im beginning to think its pointless to use antivirus.
Also had an anti-virus before for around 3 months, and so far it detected nothing. I dont know but AV really slowed down my phone so I had to uninstall it.

do u guys joking?android was based on linux so i think no virus will be on our phone..
You cannot get a "virus".. but there are malicious acting apps.. droid dream for one.. but if you are on top of the permissions allowed by the apps you install.. you will be fine..

No virus just fake apks watch what you put on your phone n you will have no probs
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
I was once used it too. other than hogging the ram it really does nothing. uninstall
it will only makes your phone slower.

Are you sure it's that useless?
Well, I used Norton but now I switched to AVG Mobile antivirus...it only scans newly installed apps if its not malware or something...it doesnt slow my phone at all...or Im blind :-D

i know AVG has a protection app for android but i cant remember the name....i actually just download an app called Lookout to help protect my phone since i heard about the recent malware attacks....read about it on lifehacker if you want here
http://lifehacker.com/#!5775320/how-to-protect-your-android-against-more-than-50-malware-apps
The best way to protect your phone is just don't install any weird looking apps from Market
Yea I use lookout too. They give you free 30 days for premium coverage. Try it out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You can try those security programs but my experience has been that they slow down the phone, but the best thing you can do is use common sense, look at what permissions the app is asking for before you download it, dont allow su access to anything unless you are confident it wont harm your phone.
Droidwall .
look out is pretty good though....i find its the best one out there
How many people are using a anti- virus software and why?
Sent from my infected TB using XDA App
I don't. I also haven't used an anti-virus program on my computer in years. 95% of viruses are caused by stupid users, and the other 5% are fairly obvious when they hit you. Why slow down my computer/phone for the tiny probability that it might actually provide some benefit?
I use Lookout. Not just for malware protection, I use it for the device locater, too.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Anti-virus on the phone is pointless IMO. If you get a virus on your phone you either don't know what you are doing, or you are downloading paid apps from the internet that have viruses in them, and installing them on your phone.
I use LookOut because i won a years premium subscription from AndroidCentral. It does slow my TB down a bit, but mostly when i install new apps.
It's not a windows phone people! It does not get viruses.

I use Lookout also!
Lookout seems to be the best in my testing (least amount of battery use), and it is a smart idea to use an antivirus app.
Omg I got a virus the other day and it totally effed up my phone
Too bad I can't wipe the phone or anything.... Someone needs to make something for that....

Seriously people, anti-virus software is pointless on the phone. If you opened up that attachment in the email, from some guy in Nigeria that you don't know, you deserve to get a virus.

I've been using LBE Privacy Guard for quite some time now and love it. It isn't an antivirus, so don't get too comfortable. What it does, though, is manage individual app permissions and alert you if something is doing what it shouldn't (if you've set it up right). I also like the fact it monitors your monthly data usage, but being unlimited on Sprint means I don't really have to care about that.
As far as I know haven't seen or heard of a virus like a windows type of virus. Linux based devices are pretty smooth . No need for anti virus. Just sucks more battery lol some even require monthly subscription .

Yeah your right. Just did my research. Well what I decided to do was stick with LBE which works amazing and has not let me down yet and I went ahead and installed Cerbrus which has good reviews for an Anti Theft app. If anyone has any other solutions, let me know and I'll give it a try. I'm a test rat for apps.

As for protection a pin would help keep folks from gettin in.. Also if they factory reset the phone which I doubt someone who steals a phone in the first place is smart enough to do. They won't be able to buy anything under your account on the market also can set a pin for that too... Also by the time they figure things out you will of have reported it stolen... I have seen alot of method to remote wipe your stufff. Also locate your phone GPS wise... They have a option on the evo 3d to locate phone .. As long as your battery isn't dead...

I use APK Anti Virus Bodyguard from "Super Manager". It's on the market.
In security detection benchmarks Avast has done the best out of all anti virus.

Can't get viruses on android
I use Lookout on my RAZR and my Iconic A500 tablet. I used it on my Droid Incredible before the RAZR for 2 years. I love it. It is very useful, not just for virus, spyware, and malware protection, but also because it allows for lost/stolen/missing phone features. If my phone is misplaced and is on vibrate, I can go to the website and make it ring loudly until I find it. I can also remotely activate the GPS to locate it if it is stolen or misplaced. It also backs up my contacts to the website so if my phone dies I won't lose all of my contacts. I highly recommend Lookout for all Android devices.

I used Lookout for a while, but soon realized I don't do any dumb stuff on my phone, so no AV software on my RAZR... Avast for my laptop, though.

I don't believe I've ever actually used Lookout for its antivirus purposes. But I have used it for its missing/stolen phone features numerous times.

Not a fan of these programs that allow you to track your phone. I had Cerberus installed, even though it was cool. I wasn't a fan that if I can do all this stuff. What happens when their website gets hacked.
The best anti virus is the user, since permissions can be more of an issue than suspicious software and may be totally acceptable since you agree to this on download..
Anti virus software more than often will just use resources that could be put to better use.
That being said I use Droid Wall to stop allot of communication.

LookOut Works Great!-Used it on about 4 Devices-Location Finder has saved my life after those long nights out. lol Also use it on my Tablets too.

Your a fool of you believe this, Google itself has issued warnings with installing non market apk files and also used its auto uninstall feature for malicious apps from the market.

So there are no virus, only malicious apps...
I think they are two different things.
to let them act you need to "let" pass through in order to be installed so if you are a bit cautious you should have no problems, or not?

A virus is a malicious code, usually found inside applications on a phone or pc. The app can lie about permission and if installed to a rooted phone can gain full control.

my recommendation would be avast for sure.. since it has anti theft features built in and still it's free.
Hi, is it necessary to get an anti virus on my phone? If so what app would you guys recommend? Please advise thanks.
Hi, I use antivirus for / AWG / and good, but you can also Zonner is free and functional.
Plenty of AV on the market if you want .

Kaspersky. I use it in my PC and I trust it the same way with my mobile phone. It's a paid app in the Play Store but I found out that this one is free for S3 users if you download in via Samsung Apps :good:
Its really not needed, the worst that could happen is a little spam....antivirus just slows down your phone and uses far too much ram....
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
And it would probably slow the phone down unnecessarily.....
hum I don't think that AV's slow down the smartphones, security is very important, unless you don't use your phone on the internet i think you must have an AV installed, we never know some apps from the market are malware, I recommend avast mobile security, I use it since the first day and is pretty nice and don't consume many resources is very very tiny when running and scan all apps from the store that you install. very nice and its FREE
No need for anti virus, unless you like a slow phone... And IF anyone in the history of cellphones were to get a virus, wipe that $hit and reinstall, simple...

With no AV, how would you know if you had a virus that is sending back your keystrokes to the creator?
You would not know you had one and need to wipe.
I wouldn't say it's a necessity, and but it nice to have an extra layer of protection. If an AV slows down the S3, then there's something seriously wrong with the S3.
I certainly didn't say s3 as the title states "android phone" but I reload os's once or twice a day so... Figured a lot of others out here in xda land probably do the same... My favorite anti-virus...

It's not necessarily a necessity but I always have one installed, because it's bad enough, when I get a virus on Windows, where I store some of my private data, but I definitely don't want any of that stuff on my phone.
Personally, I prefer to use Avast! Anti Virus. It has a blocker, an anti theft module (Root and No root) and it's completely free.
I guess it's relative, which is best. Everyone has their own needs. I need to block unknown/ hidden numbers and also keep my phone anti-thefted (That's a word I just made up)
And of course I like free apps, with regular updates/patches where I can be sure, my phone is in good hands
Here is the link, if you're interested
Have fun finding the right app, for you!
i've nerver had a virus and i don't know anyone who had it
Sorry, i don't speak english
