[Q] Restoring a backup with clockworkMod - Optimus One, P500, V General

So, I managed to install a custom rom finally. Now I want to restore a backup I've made before flashing OpenOptimus. Do I have to do something before restoring, like wipe data or format the sd card because I've made some partition on it?

Make another backup and give a try.. hehehe
but its recommended I think...

Other backup already done. I've got like dozen of backups from stock rom with amenra and clockworkmod and with OpenOptimus ...you name it. Never to secure ;-p
As for just give it a try, not the kind of answer I was expecting.

No need to do anything with the SD card. Otherwise, same procedure like for flashing any custom ROM. Needs to wipe caches etc.

Thanx! I'll try that as soon as I get home.

Command the rom manger. No need to do anything else.
Wanna backup, tell it to backup. Wanna restore, tell it to restore.

I don't have rom manager.

make a backup using recovery it will work as for now i never had any probs so never required to restore my backup as far as application is concerned i make a backup using titanium backup-open titanium backup-click menu button on phone-select batch and backup all your external appl and games in one click. As far as your contacts is concerned i normally enter into contacts-select menu-import/export-select export to sd card .this will create a .vcf file in ur sd card.
So just copy the .vcf file and titanium backup file to your pc this way u will have all your contacts and appl in ur pc backup incase if u format ur card u can just copy back the backup to sd card again. and if u dont format your sd card then u just have all ur backup intact in your card which u can restore after flashing a new rom.
hope it helped you

Nandroid stuck trying to backup cache.

I just came across my first downfall with moving the dalvik to SD. Nandroid is stuck trying to backup cache. Im guessing the reason is that nandroid cant find the dalvik because it is not symbollically linked by S2e since we arent booted into the actaul OS. Anyway i can get nandroid to backup without moving it back?
anybody?
Also, i can mount cache in CWM, but not sd-ext. It says error and kicks me out to home screen. Also i tried to view the last_log with file manager and it says it doesnt exist.
i actually have the same problem. please help..
Theres nothing too repare this, the problem born when you make a nandroid backup ,try to flash another rom or wipe data

Question about Nandroid backups

If I make a Nandroid backup of a particular setup, the install another ROM, don't like it, etc, then can I restore the backup of the other ROM?
For instance, say I've installed VillanROM (which I have) and then install Slim ICS (AOSP based) to try that out. If I don't like that can I restore the backup for VillanROM without a problem?
Yes but you have to do the Nandroid backup at VillanROM then install the new rom if you dont like it you can just restore the nandroid backup witch is basically an image of your os that contains everything
Ah, brilliant. So it's basically like ghost image? I don't need to install VillanROM, then restore?
Not at all. But one thing I recommend is making sure you have every setting and app exactly how u want it as far as configuration. So that way u don't have to redo everything. Nandroid is genius it saves my butt every time

Well I've just wasted hours downloading and installing different ROM's checking them out and having to mess with my settings each time...then I had this lightbulb idea moment and made this thread!
Thought everybody read the instructions .Most custom anything say do a Nandroid first .
Can also be copied to Pc as the Clockworm mod folder just in case.

[Q] Nandroid backup of Gingerbread on Samsung Galaxy Proclaim

Hey Everyone. Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot, but I've watched the "noob" video, and I couldn't find anything about my phone on here. So, I've become interested in custom roms, and I'm thinking about learning how to make some. I currently own a Galaxy Proclaim, and I havent been able to create a nandroid backup. I've successfully set up the adb on my Lubuntu Netbook, and I ran adb backup, and apparently that only works for ICS. So, that leaves me with a few questions. How do I make a nandroid backup of gingerbread? What does ROM Manager, from googleplay, back up? And Is there a way I could make a backup manually? I know how to backup the files on my system, but how would I backup the bootloader and everything else? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just curious and determined to make a custom ICS rom, or compile a ROM from source, but I'm afraid to try anything because I don't want to brick my phone.
Buddy do it via cwm.download compatible cwm for ur cell to sd card to root and go stock recovery m0d install zip from sd card and select cwm then select backup restore and in that option just select backup and wait until its done.u need root for flashing cwm in recovery.

Clockwork Manager doesn't support my phone. The phones model number is SCH-S720C. I've tried other backup apps and they back up my apps/media just fine, but I need a full nandroid backup in case I mess up the boot loader or flash the wrong .pit file. I'm not taking any huge risks this time since I bricked my last one. Is there anyway I could make a backup manually? I currently run Lubuntu 12.10, and I've compiled adb and it works right on my computer.
Bump

A nandroid is kinda like making an image of a PC using Ghost (if that helps at all).
You should make a nandroid when:
- You love your build/configuration
- You getting ready to flash a new ROM
- You gonna do anything unfamiliar
It is your way back to a working and configured device.
Ex...
I want to flash romX. Boot into recovery, make a nandroid. Do my wipes. Flash romX. Reboot. Play with new from. Find out I hate romX or its missing a feature I love. Fine. Reboot into recovery restore my nandroid. I am now back where I started...with my phone as it was before I started.
Ti (titanium backup) is a great tool. Yes, it's confusing.
1) buy the pro version...it's worth it
2) don't restore system apps (someone else can perhaps correct me or explain this one)
3) if you move from one aosp rom to another you can restore your user apps and data...this can save you a lot of time.
Oh yeah....ALWAYS keep a good nandroid copy on your computer. If your really frell things up and wipe everything or if the files get corrupt...you will be happy you have it.
Don't feel bad, there has been some weird twist and turns on the dev of this device. It was much easier on my old EVO4G. THE LGOG has confused me several times as well.
Good luck.
