Broken Mini USB - bricked and unbrickable - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My problem is that I have bricked this beyond repair, at least as far as I can see.
What happened was that I was running nvflash and I left the room for a short moment. When I came back I had found that my cat had knocked the tablet off of my desk. It ended up being that nvflash did not finish successfully and also my mini usb port is broken.
My situation is either repairing the port or replacing it with the warranty. However, I cant replace it as clockwork mod is installed and tapntap isn't. The problem with clockworkmod is that it wont read my mini usb port, as it only will read the internal one. The problem with this is, that I have no roms that can be flashed with this clockworkmod version, only BoS and other 1.2 based roms.
My only possible solution as of right now is to try and repair/replace the mini usb port so I can nvflash back to default. My question is can it be repaired or replaced?

It's more annoying thatn using USB, but why can't you use the external SD card?

It isn't being read by clockworkmod. I don't know if the port works or not.

I didn't see that mistake, I meant to say mini usb port.

OK, so it's the micro SD that doesn't work? are you able to connect a USB either through standard port or Mini port), then and mount the USB through CWM?

I guess I wasn't very clear. So let me rephrase my problem. The mini usb port is completely broken off of the port, and the microsd card is not being read by clockworkmod, however it is working, as I was able to format my sdcard via clockworkmod. I just can't flash any roms as none are showing up.

rip it open and resolder! If not that, grab the latest CWM and flash it to your device through SDCARD2. The command file in the recovery folder should read
Code:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
This will force the new update to read from the external SD card (that supposedly works.)

I have tried the command one and it doesn't work. I guess I have to try to resolder it on the board. However I have very little soldering experience, but not with fine soldering. I will try to find someone to do it for me, if not it looks like I am gonna try something new.

It wont work, because I already have clockworkmod installed the default recovery isnt. I think that command line only works with the default recovery.

is the standard USB port still operable?

Yes that is true... Hmm, its weird clockwork wont read your sdcard2. From the looks of it you're gonna have to attach that usb port to re-nvflash.

That is what im thinking. I am wondering if i tape it on the board, just long enough to nvflash it. The only thing is that I am not sure if it will stay in place when i insert the cable.

Were you able to get the mini usb port working? I am in the same situation and wondering what to do.

[Q] No computer recognizes my phone in either Download/USB Mount-mode

It's really weird.
I've tried it on three different computers (All Windows 7 though)
But it used to work on all three (except for when my desktop USB-ports ****ed themselves up)
I'm beginning to believe the outlet in which the USB cable goes into might be damaged.
I'm about to flash full Stock firmware, cause that's the last time I remember it working (like 3 months ago), and see if it works.
Any other tips?
Currently on WanamLite 11.4, and been flashing back and forward to Cyanogenmod using CWM flashables.
Clean phones USB port first
Second install USB drivers .

Tried installing latest stock LPD firmware, still doesnt work.
Also tried "cleaning" the USB..
Phone must be broken..
**** I cant be bothered with this ****!
I suppose I'll have to wipe every trace of any flashing and send back to Samsung

Okay, won't help me any at all now though.
I flashed stock, lost root (i'm so stupid) and now since I can't connect the phone to my computer, I can't get CWM back to restore my backup.

Seems a bit weird, have you tried using another cable?
I almost bricked my phone once because of a damaged cable...
Cheers,
Stefan.
Try cleaning the contacts between the battery and your phone.
Did you fix your problem?
If not, what exactly happens when you plug it in to your computer?
If "something" at all happens, then you may just need to switch the internal USB switch to use PDA and not MODEM in the PhoneUtils hidden menu. Make sure both USB and UART is set to use PDA!

did u try to erase kies and install only driver?

1st make sure which one is the problem, is it from the phone or from the pc. have u try to put the cable in other usb port on your pc?
Try to re-flash your rom once again. If that is not working too, reboot your phone in cwm. make sure the cable is connected between your phone and the pc, then select mount and usb in cwm. select mount usb. see if this working for you.
<-----If i helped u
Thanks for your answer but I've already tried all those options... I'm deseperate now. :/

Does it charge when the USB cable is plugged in? E.g. does the phone state that it is recharging?
If in Windows, check if the device manager (Start Button > Right-click on Computer > Properties > Device Manager) still detects 'something' on the USB port, if you see a yellow exclamation mark, perhaps reinstall the drivers for your phone. (Flashtool comes with drivers IIRC). In any case, it might be worth a try to run SEUS with the phone disconnected, then it'll offer a 'repair' option, after which you must select your type of phone and connect it, hopefully the tool does not rely on the same driver. This would flash stock rom and stock kernel to your phone.
Should this fail, if your battery and WiFi still work, perhaps you can engineer a solution that downloads a new ROM over WiFi. You could upload it to your Google drive and download through the app or just use the internet browser. Then use a file manager like Root Explorer to move the files to the correct location on the SD-Card. Boot it into CWM and flash the new ROM and see if it helps.
Is the stock SE cable???, have you tried with another cable???
I have the same problem with the SE cable, my phone don't connect correctly with my PC, it disconnects automatically or never work...
Actually I'm using a Samsung cable for use the phone with my PC and works perfectly.
Actually u can try to take out the memory card and used card reader to other ROM beside that u used one. Then flash it. see how it going.

[Q] Help Please! I am NOT a noob- tried many ways but stuck trying with a work around

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!
Phone:
Tmobile T959 aka Samsung Vibrant
It is on stock Froyo 2.2
It has the 3E recovery.
I tried on 2 computers but I can NOT connect via USB it gives me USB malfunction error. The phone does charge. I can put it into download mode vie the 3 finger trick. When you connect it does give you the option to click the green Android icon Connect to USB. So it is talking to the computer, the usb is not totally dead.
Problem:
I need to root this phone. I can not use 1 click or anything else because I think there is a problem with the USB port. I can get files onto the phone via wifi or using the external sd card.
I tried using the update.zip file BUT because I am on the 3E recovery it will say signature failed. I can not run the install.bat to get it back to 2E recovery. I can not use ODIN because the Windows will not detect the phone properly.
What workaround can I use to root this phone? How would I use terminal on the phone?
HOW WOULD YOU ROOT THE PHONE IF YOUR USB PORT WAS "broken"?
THANKS for helping!
As far as I'm aware, you can't root your phone without the USB port working as most (if not all) root methods send their commands and files through ADB. Your pretty much stuck, unless your phone is under warranty. In that case, just go to your carrier and see if they'll give you a replacement device.

I think there may be a way to do it via terminal emulator on the phone.
If this is possible, can someone please post how to do it.

Am I stuck or does anyone have a way for me to root this phone without the using the USB connection (USB does charge, It will know when you connect to the pc for USB storage BUT windows will say not recognized. I tried it on 4 other pc's same results. I think something is wrong with the OS of the phone. I think the previous owner tried to update with Kies and it messed up the phone. How do I root this phone WITHOUT the USB port?
There has to be a way!
Can you determinate VID&PID of phone?
I can get into the device with airdroid and see the system files.
Which files do I need (or which apps) and where do I copy them manually to get it rooted?

Is there not a device forum where you might could get some better information? My thinking is, a lot of the people (or most of the people) who may know some workarounds can probably help, but they don't check this section very often or at all.
Even if there's not a section for that model, I'm thinking there's probably one quite similar. Also a lot of times, a big portion of the userbase of one phone, will migrate to the same model when they upgrade.
Just throwing out some ideas in case that's helpful. My only advice on the problem itself is that I would look further into the driver issue. I've helped several people with very similar issues that we finally were able to correct.
Have you tried to ADB the device just to pull the serial? With USB debugging enabled. Have you installed the SDK and tried the naked drivers? There's some things to pursue possibly so you can have more information for the person who helps you get things straightened out.

[Q] Updating - Out of Options

Hello forums,
I've done a lot of searching but can't seem to find someone with my combo of problems. Awesome.
So here's my set up.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
CM9 2012 06 13 Nightly
Windows 7
I want to update to the stock ICS offered from Samsung. I originally had 3.2 HC and couldn't wait for the Canadian update to roll around so I went CM. But I've been stuck on CM9 Since. Now I have several problems that make it impossible for me to update. Any help would be much appreciated.
1. ODIN and PC will NOT detect the tablet when connected via USB. I get a USB not recognized. MTP is enabled. This means I cannot ODIN flash.
2. I can't find a Canadian ODIN Flashable-build. I'd have to use the US one. That has it's own slew of political problems.
3. CWM will not mount my SD card. I have a CWM Backup with ICS (Someone else uploaded it) saved in CWM's backup dir. but I cannot restore it since CWM 5.5.1.4 will not mount the SD.
I've literally been doing this on and off for about 2 months now and I could really use some help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I could care less if the whole thing were wiped clean if it means I can start using the cameras again.
Thank you.

When you view the tablet in Device Manager, what does it say? What specific error do you get when you plug it in?
Some of the cheap cables are poorly constructed to the point where just normal flexing of the cable breaks the wires going to the connector. If you lose one of the USB transmit/receive wires, the cable will still allow you to charge, but the OS won't recognize the device.
If you know the cable's good, try reinstalling the drivers.

Phone not detected by windows 7 help!

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum. I've got a Samsung i777 on android 2.3.6 kernel 2.6.35.7 build number gingerbread.uckk6
I've recently bought this phone off ebay
My phone does not get detected by windows 7 or Macbook. I've tried changing the USB flex cable with I9100 v2.3 but still no luck.
When I connect USB port it beeps and shows mtp-initialization/mtp-connected on the phone but it is not shown on windows. It says USB cannot recognise the device. I've got a s3 and ideos x3 both of them are detected.
I've installed kies 3 on my laptop.
I had to swtich off the wifi on the phone because it consumes a lot of battery, I think it is because of the android version I'm using!
I want to root the phone and unlock it!!
Any help is appreciated!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing the problem is the Samsung drivers you have installed for the s3. Try uninstalling those and installing the correct drivers for s2.

You most likely need a new cable. Happened to me once! Could be the drivers but I HIGHLY recommend just trying a new USB cable.
Thank you guys for all your help really appreciate it!
I have tried all the steps mentioned above tried to uninstall all the previous drivers I had and installed the new driver as mentioned in the above link but no luck
I tried it on a friends computer with a different cable still it shows the USB device is not recognised!!

Did you install another ROM? It might help to Wipe system, Data, ETC! it appears to be a software problem. Or at least my guess is the ROM your using.
The Galaxy phones all use the same USB drivers whether it's an S2, S3, S4, etc., so if the installed drivers were working for your S3, it's unlikely to be a driver issue.
Can you boot it into download mode? If you happen to have a USB jig, that's the easiest. Otherwise, power off the phone, unplug the USB cable, hold Vol +/Vol-, then plug in the USB cable. It should go into ODIN download mode. See if Windows detects the phone that way. If so, it very well could be something weird with the OS installed (although it appears to be stock).
If you can get into download mode, you can flash a stock kernel to make sure you are starting fresh. A good file repository is found here. I recommend the stock UCKH7 image I777_UCKH7_OCD_No_BL.7z (you'll also get root).
And yes, the UCKK6 release had a serious bug related to the wifi that could drain your battery. Best to go with UCKH7.
You could also download an app that allows you to enter download mode.

Yes I guess this rom is useless, if the wifi is switched on then battery would not even last 6 hrs!

Are you saying to get a balloon notification in the tray that says the USB device is not recognized? A possible reason for that is a faulty USB cable or USB port (funny enough, I actually got that message last night when I was playing around with my Captivate, and switching USB ports made it work). I know you said you've tried other computers an another USB cable, but that's about my only idea. Maybe there's some debris inside the connector that's messing up the connection.
When you say you changed the "USB flex cable", are you talking about the internal connector and board inside the phone? If so, perhaps the I777 connector board is actually a little different than the I9100 board and causing a compatibility issue.
The bug in UCKK6 related to wifi didn't affect everybody, but it definitely affected a lot of people (based upon reports here).

If you have an SD card, you can download another ROM on that SD card from your computer and then you can install custom recovery (CWM) and then install the ROM from SD card.

First ill run you through the problem I had. Just for reference did you use Mr. Cooks script before flashing Cyanogenmod 11? One of his scripts for cleaning before flashing, actually deletes a certain file, not to keen on which one. What it results in though is not being able to flash OF ROMS and some certain custom ROMS! So id recommend alliance's ROM! As for the "Getting the ROM on your device, you could put the ROM on your SD though recovery "Mount and storage/Mount mass storage/" or just use a micro sd card adapter and move it on there that way.
Thanks for your reply. Would you mind sending me the link on how to do that step by step as mentioned I'm new to Samsung phones and also this forum.

What state is your phone currently in? Is it still not detected by the computer? You are still on 2.3.6, correct?
If it's still not being detected by your computer, I'm not sure if you can flash anything needed using the stock recovery. I know that when I flashed stock JB, I was able to boot into stock recovery and directly apply the standard CWM update file here. It will give boot into a temporary CWM that should allow you to flash other ZIP files (like a ROM), although I had trouble doing that (so I ended up flashing the AJK_v4.9_NoSwap.zip kernel using the MobileOdin android app, which gave a permanent CWM recovery).
I'm not sure if this same process works with the 2.3.6 recovery. However, in order to get the stock recovery to see the internal SD card, I had to run adb shell commands to mount the partition (meaning I had to have a working connection from the computer).
Solved!!!
HI Guys,
Many many thanks for all your responses!
I have changed the USB flex cable again to an older version v2.2 and my phone is currently being detected by kies! So relieved thanks a lot for all your help..now the rooting begins!!
