[Q] TENFAR'S CWM or ROM MANAGER - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sorry guy but i'm some what new to this and this might be a stupid question for most of u, but here it goes anyways.
I just rooted my friends inspire 4g n used rom manager after, was very easy to use, so the question: Whats the diff bet them 2, n which is better for the atrix.

There are no Full Roms for the atrix. Bootloader is locked!!! CWM is for flashing Pseudo-Roms and SBF Files. CWM is what you want for an atrix to load Gingerblur/Gladiatrix, deodexed filesystems, and any other tweaks to the atrix. Its all we have for the atrix at the moment, until one of our astounding DEVs gets around the bootloader issue.
Rom-Manager is used to switch roms around on devices with open bootloaders. i think it has some value to the atrix but not like it does for unlocked droids. Ive never used it, and my Atrix is heavily hacked and modded.

Thank u very much.
Now i can really see the diff.

I got my GF the Inspire and she wont let me play with it lol. If she would, I would have more info on the Rom Manager. Ill get my Hands on it sooner or later, Heck i bought it lol.

[Q] ...next logical step?

Hello,
Semi-noob here, have done the jailbreak and unlockin' thing to My previous iPhone 3G and 3GS plus a linux user since 97' so I sorta have a clue, know just enough to get Me in trouble.
Anyway after owing a few iPhones and countless Palm phones and products I finally decided to get a Android device, pretty much for the same reasons most people migrate from the iOS to Android. So I picked up a Motorola Atrix4G from ATT a couple of days ago running 2.3.4 I promised Myself I wouldn't try to tweak to since I need this phone heavily for work. Well that last barely 24Hours. So here is what I did.
After a few Missteps and a soft-bricking I sorta solved on My own I am now on 2.2.2 instead of 2.3.4
Gone is a bunch of the ATT bloatware...and some of the Motoblur stuff as well, I think?
I used RSDlite5.3.1 to install SBF1.8.3 and used Fastboot to unlock the bootloader, Also installed clockworkMod recovery and Superuser is enabled.
I like this GUI much better than the bloated one that came on the phone. But My question is am I missing out on features/tweaks present in version 2.3.4? Can I step back up to 2.3.4 and retain My unlocked bootloader? What is the preferred custom ROM....where do I go from here? better said what is the next logical step.
Thanks in Advance.
J.
P.S. For someone like Myself who works on the road 5 day a week on average the fingerprint reader is a godsend....finally a feature that makes sense.
...in true NOOB fashion
So after My earlier post I did a little more digging and figured out I should put pudding's 2.3.4.SBF on My atrix...install went fine. Only wrinkle was I had to reinstall the clockworkmod and Superuser access. Tested, Rooted 100% and everything is working as it should....All the SU apps are working fine as well.No complaints.
J.
If you want the fingerprint sensor but also want a quick low-bloat rom id suggest alien it works really well and its easy to install.

[Q] New Photon User

Hey guys:
I'm thinking about switching from my age-old HTC hero to the Photon, but since Moto has locked bootloaders (I see some threads about an unlocked with borked 4g, what is that?), and The Hero has good XDA support, what stuff can we do with this phone? I'd love to help, but ROM's, Kernels, Root, Unlocked Bootloader, and the issues with said stuff need to be known by me, and it's all over the place, so I don't really understand. Happy thanksgiving, and if you can let me know about this stuff it'd be great.
when you unlock the bootloader it breaks the 4G (so you won't be able to use it)
You can relock and get your 4g back.
Apparently devs are working on a solution for this.
I have owned htc inspire iphone 4 and the photon. The photon works great out of the box for me and only can get better. Right now i am unlocked with it overclocked to 1.2 ghz and the magnifier rom. But locked or unlocked to me its worth it. But it all depends on what you like in the phone. Battery life also is pretty good but i got the 3600mah mugen battery and lasts forever it seems now

I just switched from my Evo 4G to the Photon this week. The OG Evo had a massive dev community, and it was great, but I am noticing that everything I used to need to hack my Evo to do, the photon does out of the box.
Now just because the bootloader is locked, doesn't mean you can't root. Root on this was actually incredibly easy with Photon Torpedo method. I haven't unlocked my bootloader, and currently, I don't see any reason to. I have root access, which lets me do things like run webtop without a dock, wifi tether, uninstall system apps, and anything else you need root for. As far as your interface, anything you don't like about motoblur can be remedied with a new launcher, like GoLauncher.
So far, I couldn't be happier with the Photon. This phone is amazing. I have 4G in my area, and if you unlock the bootloader you lose that, so for now, I don't want to. The only time I see it becoming a problem is if ICS roms start coming out and Sprint and Moto don't give us an official update.

Um, hold up! Have you tried the AIO OCR? Once you go OCR, you'll never go back...
and yes, the Photon can't compare to the EVO, (except the kickstand of course!)
I had Evo 4G and got Photon 08/02/2011. 3 weeks later I rooted it, and 4 days later I put it back to stock. Even if they came out with unlocked bootloader, I'm staying put, lovely directly right out the box. I have SPB 3D Shell (which some claim it a resource hog. Maybe? I reboot maybe once a week?) but it gives me a unique look and feel and I like the organization with it. Battery is decent compared to others, I last a work day, but I really to play with mine.
As stated, up to you. Personally, almost any smartphone on the market today has a heck of alot of Pro's compared to Con's!
Thanks so much! Im pretty sure this is the one im going to buy, because my awesome hero has just gotten to old for my liking. Happy Thanksgiving!

[Q] New to Rezound, have a few questions

I recently switched from a Droid X (running CM9) to the Rezound, and I am loving it so far. I have read all the stickies on unlocking, rooting, and installing ROMs, and it is very different on this device. I understand the general idea, but I have a few questions...
For one, I am accustomed to being able to SBF back to factory if anything went wrong with my DX. I realize that there is no SBF process for a "bricked" Rezound, and that there are ways to fix your device if something goes wrong. I am wondering if there is a way to actually brick a Rezound beyond repair by just flashing ROMs and kernels. And if this does happen, has anyone had trouble getting a new device from Verizon after using HTCdev to unlock their device? I realize that it may void parts of the warranty, but I was just wondering if anyone has actually been denied a replacement device because of this.
My last question is, does Chrome work on ICS ROMs on the Rezound? I've looked through a lot of threads for the different ROMs in the development section, but I have not even seen it mentioned. On my Tab 10.1 (also CM9) and some other devices I have played with, you could just change the build number in the build.prop to fix Chrome if it didn't work with a ROM. Does this work for the Rezound?

Bricking is pretty tough on this phone. I haven't heard of full on bricking yet.
Also haven't heard of a warranty being voided just for flashing ROM's, at least for HTC.
There is a Chrome APK in the Themes forum. Sideload it as the very first thing you do once you flash an ICS rom. After that you are golden.
Good Luck.
Anyone know when ICS is out for Motorola Razr?
What? You aren't going to find to many people in this forum that actually care about an ICS release for the Razr.

I am a almost 3 year Motorola user using that root/flashing/sbf process. I haven't went back to unrooting yet on my Rezound, but I can tell you it's a little more difficult to get rooted than the original Motorola Droid and the Motorola Droid X2 (which is what i upgraded from).
First you have unlock the bootloader. I did it the slow way step-by-step through HTCDev.com becuase the noob method wasn't working for me. After you get the files you need from the SDK Android app it's pretty much easy from there to unlock the bastard.
Flashing new roms is pretty similiar, but there's a hitch. Usually when you flash a ROM you have to flash a kernal that is compabitable with the ROM. Which means you have to do it in the bootloader instead of in Recovery. The only time you don't have to do this is when the ROM has a built in kernal (boot.img) and it almost flashes it for you automatically.
I'm very happy with my upgrade from the X2, but then again the original X had a lot more variety as far as development. The X2 wasn't very popular even though for a short while it was the best specced pure 3G device on Verizon when 4G LTE came out.
I've tried a couple ICS ROMs and for the most part they're pretty damn stable with a few bugs in them. Personally I like ROMs very polished with literally almost no bugs so I'm sticking with GB ROMs until something pretty polished comes out. I will be totally happy with my Rezound if we get a full or pretty close to a full AOSP ROM released under Ice Cream Sandwich.
If you have any other questions private message me. I've owned the Rezound for about a week now and have been happy with it.
Chrome shows in the market for ics running rezounds, no need to side load.

[Q] Switching from Thunderbolt to Rezound

Is there anything i need to know to minimize the shock of the adjustment? I'm just curious because the TB was epically developed for, rezound seems to be at a much younger place in the regard. Are there any other things i need to keep in mind?
you wont have much of a problem at all i feel... i had a Dinc and once u understand that u need to use amon ra recovery and the difference of using hboot to flash kernels i think u will be fine
So, if I am understanding the situation correctly, The three main things are:
Amon Ra is our recovery,
htc DEV to unlock is necessary (ie, your warranty is void)
Kernel through hboot (for now).
Just came over from a galaxy nexus myself but everything yojoe mentioned covered my initial confusion. The kernel through hboot really threw me off at first as in the past I had only ever used it for radio updates. As for dev scene, I came from an official google phone so I expected less development but as you stated it's really early for this phone anyways. Already though I'm loving the Sense based ICS roms (running cleanrom pro, personally) and Cyanogenmod 9 has made much progress if you are a fan (though no working ril yet).
Well i think everything will pick up for the rezound once the official ICS drops (devs can take it apart to learn how stuff works) and once S-Off is released.
I just left the tbolt for the rezound. The hardest thing to get used to (and its not that hard to get used to) is flashing the kernels. Other than that, this phone slaughters the tbolt.
I started with the evo 4g, which is a great phone. (Has the biggest dev following out of all of the phones i've had, thats the biggest thing I miss about the 4g)..then to the evo 3d, very nice phone, just not as many devs.
Then to the tbolt, very nice phone...but a major step back after having the 3d for awhile.
Now I have the rezound...hands down best phone I've ever had.
1 thing to remember though, from what I have seen you don't want to upgrade to the ICS ruu....I almost did this to run some of the newer roms (the ones without the patch for gb) But I have someone strongly advise me against this due to people having issues with the ruu, then wanting to downgrade back to gb. But you can't downgrade back to gb after upgrading to the ICS leak.
Just do some research and you'll figure it out.
I always wait a week or so after getting a new phone and let it run stock so I can see what it is like before I root it. But thats just me.
I'm actually glad I read this, as I was thinking about flashing the leak, and I hadn't seen that yet. I just flashed nils with the patch, so I don't want to be stuck on the leak if there isn't a way to downgrade yet.
OP, I went from the Tbolt to the bionic and now the rezound. So far I really like the rezound. Although I have only been using it for 2 days now, I do really like it. It seems like the main thing that is a "shock" to learn, so to speak, is the flashing for kernals compared to the Tbolt. But the trade off it ICS, which you couldn't daily on the Tbolt, or the Bionic. The bionic had a working RIL, but since you can't flash kernals there was no hardware acceleration or anything.
The locks on motorola devices is why i chose to stay with HTC. the TB was my first phone, but i think it was an awesome phone, just poorly supported by Verizon. My usb port is coming undone so i got a unused, new in box ReZound on ebay for 200 bucks (lucky auction). Lets just hope it doesn't have any issues hardware wise. Really cant wait to get the chance to run AOKP on this bad boy.
The previous posts sum up the differences well. The hardware on the Rezound is a huge improvement. I flashed the leaked ruu and have had not problems, but most of the ICS roms now have patches so you don't have to.

What are my options

Hey all ssup
Well wanted to ask, my photon is in shipping and I am likely to get it early next week, ain't got no clue which version its been shipped with.
But suppose its. 2.3.5 then what ROM options and/or optimization option I have after rooting and of course the process of rooting.
Its shameful on part of moto to ditch us and on top freakin locking the boitloader, I have tried my bit by getting more than 30 odd people to sign the petitions.
Let's hope this great phone giant abandoned by moto and the devs .
Thanks

I'm using Peetr's hybrid rom with planter's ics theme and it looks badass and runs perfectly. I also have the beats audio installed along with the bravia engine. Other than no 4G (which I don't have to begin with here), I have zero complaints. I'm sure there are a few other locked roms that work great as well, but this is simply my opinion.
No doubt looks badass
And 4g is a no go from where I am so it can stay f*****.
gonna try this for sure.
Although I have rooted the photon before but which is the easiest for
2.3.4 and 2.3.5
regards

If it comes with 2.3.4 you are lucky man cause then you can unlock your own bootloader and run whatever you want. If you get 2.3.5 use the torpedo method to root. Do a quick search and you'll find it easily.
