Your best bet is probably just to flash to SBF 1.83. You can root from there using Gingerbreak

I can get the update now. I was part of the ATRIX 4G Pre-Release Software Test.
Problem is that I cant get software update since my phone is rooted.
search the forum and download sbf 183.
Then open the sticky thread how to flash sbf to your phone, and use the 183 file you found .
183 on mine didn't wipe my data..
So installed a clean 142 then update then flashed 183, root etc etc, and waiting for the 3.0 gingerblur!!!!!!!!
And I think that update increased wifi reception!!!

You can try the post above, flashing 1.83 sbf. Easy to do.
Or try unroot script within Gladroot

or the new gingerbreak 1.20 !
It has unroot function.

From my understanding, you can upgrade even if the phone's rooted as long as you don't have a custom theme or pseudo-ROM like GingerBlur or GladAtrix installed. You'll lose root though, so make sure you can re-root it.
This should be in QA bro!

[Q] Root + GB 2.33 Auto Update

Hello all. My phone is trying to auto-update itself to GB...2.33. However, I am currently rooted...which I do not want to lose.
If the phone updates itself, is there currently any way to re-root the phone?
Thanks
- Steve
Well, I auto updated this morning while I was rooted. The OTA update went fine but I have lost root. If anyone can figure out how I can regain root in 2.3.3, I would forever be in your debt.
Thanks!

I Think You Can Just SBF Back To 2.2.2 And Use P3Droid's Pre-Root. Don't Quote Me Yet.

Yes, it's true. You can update to 2.3, then SBF back to Froyo 2.2. Then grab P3's Pre-Root 2.3 GB update, and flash it. Follow these instructions.
Don't hold me to it, but you can probably use P3's to go straight from 2.2 to 2.3, without updating first, then SBF'ing back to Froyo. I could be wrong though, and I'm not responsible.
There may be an apk responsible for this. I'm not sure, but could FOTA.apk be Forced OTA? I haven't tried freezing this, but is someone willing to try?
I don't think that's it.
I just froze "Updater 2.2.2" using Titanium Backup and restarted the phone...I don't see a popup anymore. Hopefully that stops the OTA until I can install it and root.
I have the phone setup just the way I want it right now...I doubt the 2.33 would make any much of a difference.
Here is what you do...
.sbf back to 2.2.2
boot up and re-setup the phone (*228)
use gingerbreak to root it
install the recovery app
download p3's update.zip and place it in the root of your sdcard-ext
boot to recovery and hit the sdcard:update.zip option
There are more detailed instructions in this subforum if you look.

I never let the ota install. but I did have to sbf my deodexed and deblurred 2.2 back to stock, install p3droids prerooted 2.3 then deodex and deblur it.
made a huge difference for me. text entry improvements alone are worth the hassle!

Just use RSD Lite and any of the SBFs listed to go back to stock. Or, factory reset your phone.
Thanks for the help

Factory reset doesn`t help , the only way to get 4g back is flash the stock sbf file.

If coming from AOSP/CM/MIUI/AOKP, factory reset your phone THEN use RSD to flash 198_6 SBF or 198_7 SBF (I suggest 198_7). All the information you will ever need on how to do this and more is in the development section in a thread called;

[Q]Need to confirm sbf procedures after losing root.

Hello-
I’m ignorant when it comes to these things so please be kind, thanks.
I bought 2 Droid X2’s, one for my son and me. I rooted the phones successfully using Pete’s One Click Method (I think). Then I installed Titanium Backup Pro.
A few months later we installed the Droid X2 latest version 2.3.5, not knowing it would unroot our phones. All my research on xdadevelopers tells me I have to reflash the phones back to the manufacturers stock/original system boot file - is this correct? And, is this the sticky/thread that tells me how to do this? Do I follow the op's (daywalker04) post down to the letter when doing so?
To do this, all I have is a Mac OS X version 10.6.8. Thanks to all for your help.
Go to general and there should be a sticky to show you how to sbf to 2.3.4. You'll need RSd lite and the sbf file after that its just a matter of following the directions. There's also a way to root 2.3.5 either with zergrush which I haven't tried or using voodoo ota root keeper and than updating. Hopefully this steers you the right direction.
I would've posted the sticky link but im not totally sure how to on the app

Hi Strubie, Thanks for the reply. Couple of questions.
Will the sticky link I posted (Gingerbread SBF for MB870 Verizon Droid X2) not work? Also, do I have to sbf back to the version that was originally on the phones, or it doesn't matter - either 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?

depends on what you want, generally 2.3.4 is preferred so you have the latest firmware try

True - I didn't fully explain what I was trying to do in my op, sorry.
After inadvertently unrrooting my phones by installing 2.3.5, I'm trying to get them rooted again with 2.3.5 installed. I guess my confusion lies in the fact that everything I've read says I have to sbf back to original boxed version. My question is if the original boxed version was 2.3.3, is that what I have to revert back to, or can I go to 2.3.4?
you can flash any of these 2.2.2/ 1.2.148, 2.3.3/1.3.232, 2.3.4/1.3.380, 2.3.5/1.3.418
but 2.3.4 is fastest way to get a rooted 2.3.5

Thanks sd, I'm going to read and study the entire thread: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2.
Another question. The "HowTo" method uses Windows, can I follow the exact same procedure using Mac OS X?
different with mac, I'll look for it

instead of rsd lite, use sbf_flash mac version
