if u have official version - updated via KIES u dont need to root the device at all. root is here to open new options...but u cant go wrong with the stock setup mate.
Root is a method of opening up the operating system at a deeper level .
As rooting voids warranty dont bother unless you need it .
1.What is root/rooting?
root is the user account in Linux with all privileges. The root user can edit anything on the system. For safety reasons, users do not have all those privileges. When you root your phone, you will gain write access to areas of the phone you couldn't previously access and are allowed to run more commands in the terminal. Because applications do not get a lot of priviledges, some of them require you to root the device in order for them to function properly (or fully).

Hello i got a brand new S2 L9100 XWLPT 4.0.4 i did the firmware before i started doing anything, still when i was done i checked if i had root access with S2 root.exe and it it worked.
Sadly i could not get it to work with superuser i got no permission popup or anything and all the root apps kept telling me i had no root access so i decided to unroot and flash back to original and it worked fine.
Still i really want to root access and i will gladly spend some money to get if possible via apps.
If you want to easily obtain root permissions, it uses this tool http://www.unlockroot.com/ .....

If it was me I would flash a custom Kernel such as Siyah kernel because the stock kernel that comes with LPT firmware has the brick bug which BAD!
If you going to take the next step and root your phone, you really should remove that brick bug.
Siyah is probably most widely used custom kernel on the S2 but there are many out there and all good for differnet things
For easy root use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. For free

Dear Saucefar,
Your firmware has brick bug on its kernel. This means it can potentially spoil your phone,if you need with it.
There is no need to panic though, just continue reading.
After rooting your device,
-Please do not wipe your DATA or FACTORY Reset your phone. Don't try it
- Flash a custom kernel immediately. I recommend Siyah or Speedmod kernel.
It's better to be safe than sorry

Hi, i am a complete noob.
I recently rooted my phone without flashing a new kernel using the cwm recovery mod busybox installer on this site. However, since then i have updated my firmware over kies but not a full update, just a small one. Now although root checker says i have root, my root apps can't gain root access. Would really appreciate any help oli could get on this matter.
Running XWLPI on my phone. Any more info needed i can provide but dont know what is required.

EDIT: The link in the first reply worked, I used the unroot all file to clear everything and then the signed superuser only file to root. worked like a charm

Hi Guys,
Noob asking a question thats probably been asked a billion times!
anyway I've owned an S3 for about 2 years and am looking to root for the first time, but i am having trouble doing so,
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (UK Orange/EE Network)
Model Number: GT-19300
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: 19300XXUGMK6 (is this improtant for root?)
Build Number: JSS15J.19300XXUGMK6 (is this important for root?)
i have tried to use Towelroot but it says "This phone isn't currently supported" (tried changing modstring but no joy) and i was wondering what way of rooting is best for my device? just doing some research before i try anything.
Also am i right in thinking that root just effects the permissions and as a result the apps and files wont be wiped from the device and the carrier settings wont be changed?
Thanks
Steve

Try this method >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...3-07-2012-cf-root-6-4-supersu-cwm5-5-t1695238 << No apps or files will be wiped. I recommend the first thing for you to do when you have rooted and before modifying anything is for you back up everything including your efs.

Imagine supersu as the guard at the gate waiting for any app wanting root permissions to ask if it can enter. Every time a root app asks to use root supersu will stop it and ask you (with a pop up) if it is safe to let this app through for it to use or modify anything in the root of your phone.
To check root just install any root app I suggest Titanium Backup because the first thing you should do is back everything up because messing with root can make your device unusable if you do something wrong.

Did you use the apk or the PC version to obtain root?
how did this work
So did you ever find out if the PC or apk was used. Was there any issues, how did it work. Also has anyone figured out a hotspot mod for this device. I have it on the boost unlimited plan. I really need the hotspot.
Kingroot non PC version will work on any device but you ever uninstall king root will not reroot that device
My question is will the PC versipn?
kingroot
So I can just install the kingroot apk and it should root my device. I am kinda new to this. Will it also install SuperSU or will I need to find a way to flash it, if I need it at all. Also. Does anybody know about how to get free hotspot. I read that changing the apk to end in dun will work. Anybody know for sure.
Yes second try but if you ever uninstall you will be looking for a new way king root will not work a second time nomatter how you try but its safe will not brick device and will cover as antivirus phone protection oh if use antivirus get rid myself f it before you try kingroot or your phone will glitch king root is read as threat because it has no limitations on what it can do BTW I use the y538 model
hotspot
Have you found a hotspot hack or mod. I am gonna wait till I know I can get free hotspot before I root it.
I have my y538 rooted but I really want a custom recovery or rom anyone got one or know how
King root didn't work for me I've tried all and PC version, but very new to android and rooting. When I run the app it gets about halfway then stops and wont. Is there anything else I should've done as well, sorry but can't find anything, anywhere else about rooting this phone and version

Use KingRoot APK, does it easily.
I dont like the app myself so im going to remove it with lucky patcher soon. Once king root is installed into the system i cant get him out for fear of loosing root. I just installed SuperSu fromChaindd but now I can not update the binary, Im going to clone superuser from my other phone so hes updated and then may he will stay updated when I install to system app with lucky patcher.
Oh, and by the way, Your bootloader is locked so you wont be able to change the rom. SuperSu couldnt even install himself into the system like he has on every other phone. Dont even try to install a recovery at this point because your phone may never boot again!
Someone is going to have to dump a backup and figure out how to fool the checks into thinking its a real OTA update on the way back in.
