hi guys,
I'm looking for any a 2.2 or 2.2.X kernel that includes cwm,
can you guys please recommend me one?
i need this so i can downgrande from 2.3 rom back to 2.2 ones.
All kernels in the development section are 2.2 ones, except those marked as CM7. Not sure you can flash such a kernel to go back to froyo though, which rom are you on?
i'm on Simply Honey 3.5, cant i just flash a 2.2 kernel using SGS Kernel Flasher?
if i'll flash to 2.2 kernel will it let me boot into CWM recovery 2?
Use odin to go back to stock..
i don't understand what you're trying to achieve by flashing a 2.2.x kernel on GB either...I understand that you wanna go back down to a 2.2.x rom, but you'll probably just end up with a boot loop by doing so.
someone told me on this forum that by flashing a 2.2 kernel on top i'll be able to access CWM again
and then ill be able to flash 2.2 roms, without needing to odin back to stock 2.1.
here's the quetoe:
Use SGS Kernel flasher from the market.
Flash a 2.2 kernel such as overstock or bali. Make sure the 2.2 kernel is on your SD card.
THen from the OP:
This method of flashing a kernel will also work if you want to go back to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Just use the app to flash your favorite 2.2 kernel, say Overstock and let it do its thing. When it reboots you will be stuck on the kernels splash screen or vibrant. Hold volume up and down and power. When you see the Vibrant logo release the power button only. Recovery screen will come up and you can flash any rom you'd like or restore a previous backup. [/B]

so to cut a long story short, my ONLY option to downgrade from 2.3 rom back to 2.2 ones is by Odin back to stock 2.1?

Yeah, just flash a 2.2 kernels like Bali or Overstock. I would recommend those two.

Yes you can. I've done several times when I was on that rom.
Just flash a 2.2 kernel with CWM such as overstock or bali, then flash it via sgs kernel flasher, when it goes to reboot it will bootloop so just pull the battery and use three button method to get to recovery and flash a 2.2 rom, but you need to have a 2.2 rom on your sd card before you flash the 2.2 kernel or else you will have to odin back.

When I have had trouble with a custom ROM, or changing file format, I usually odined back to 2.1 JDF with JAC's odin file and start again with a clean stock base. Doing this is kind of a PITA, having to root again and flash CWR before I could flash a custom rom.
Is there any benefit of using odin to revert to JDF anymore or can I get the same results if I use CWR to flash a rooted, de-odexed, stock 2.2 rom IE re-setting the phone and getting a clean "stock" base from which to flash a custom rom?

Not sure if you've done this, but when you've first flashed CWR did you do a back up? From what I understand, with that back up you can just flash back to how your phone was prior to flashing the custom rom. I've never tried it though, I've always odin back to stock just in case.
Yea I normally make a nadroid backup via CWR and Ti backup of apps, then copy the SD card to my desktop. A nadroid backup will not re-flash the modem or kernel. The only way to do this was odin but now CWR can. This is part of my reason for asking the question in the OP. If CWR can flash rom, kernel and modem, is there any benefit to using ODIN to get back to a clean stock rom?
Flashing back to stock is always the cleanest way to go. You do not risk
"ghost" remnants from old flashings. Nice clean slate... is always the best way to go. Reverting back to stock from CWR backup I have not do that it would defeat the purpose of wiping old data from the firmware. So, I always do a reflash back to stock when putting Real new software. I do not if I am just upgrading from older version of custom rom xx to a newer version.
Oka1,
thanks. Do you use JAC's JFD, link, or is there a mildly tweaked Odin file that will give a rooted stock?

If you go to the vibrant directory bible there are stock rims that have been rooted.

Thanks. Although the bible has CWR rooted roms, I do not see any that are ODIN. Which was sort of the reason for this thread, CWR vs ODIN to get a clean, ghost free, platform to flash a custom rom.
Hello. I have some problem with my Galaxy Ace (FROYO 2.2.1). I tried to install ClockWorkMod but i think i did somthing wrong (i think i followed the steps for GINGERBREAD). My phone works fine but when i try to access recovery mode (POWER+HOME) it freezes at SAMSUNG mode. Is it a way to restore to previous recovery mode? If i reset to factory from setting, will it restore? Wat is the best way to have ClockWorkMod installed, because i tried to find on forum but every post doesn't give all steps, but just ACRONIMS that i don't understand. Please help me.
that because u flash clockworkmod recovery for gingerbread on froyo.
u need to flash stock gingerbread rom via odin and u'll get stock recovery back.
after that u can continue to flash clockworkmod recovery for gingerbread like u did earlier on froyo and u'll have fully working clockworkmod recovery.
no acronims typed
I conseder myself a smart guy (regular smart). I jailbreaked my iphone and Ipad. I HARD SPLed my HTC diamond and HD2 and installed a lot of cooked roms. BUT i find quite dificult to understand how to do what you told me up: how do I know what GINGERBREAD ROM is best for my ACE? How do i use ODIN (where i get the TAR and OPS?) I am not lazy. I know how to use the forum and search button. But for 2 days i'm reading and i don't understand...(a lot of acronims and not many follow-up steps). Thks a lot...if you can help me
for me myself, best gingerbread rom is cm7.2. it still unofficial, still contains bugs, and battery drain is noticeable compared to stock rom. but its suites me well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380800
for custom rom based on stock, gingerreal 2.0 seems pretty good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228436
eitherway, because u still on froyo u need to flash stock samsung's gingerbread via odin first, then flash clockworkmod recovery.
read this howto use odin to flash stock gingerbread rom, but first do backup all your data.
http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/09/odin-guide-how-to-updateupgrade-samsung.html
then u can continue to flash clockworkmod recovery.
download the ClockWorkModAce.zip file, put in sdcard, turn off phone, reboot into stock recovery (home+power button) and flash it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
now that u have stock gingerbread with clockworkmod recovery, u can flash any custom rom based on stock like gingerreal, or cm7.1 or cm7.2.
read instruction howto flash those rom on first page of those rom respective thread.
Thks for the reply. you helped me a lot. But i managed to recover the recovery )) by ODIN and a TAR custom made for fix. And a managed to install CWM. But i will start to put GINGERBREAD. I can put the ROM from your link? Isn't custom for everyphone to have different ROM? I mean my phone has PDA: S5830XWKAA PHONE: S5830XXKA6 and CSC: S5830OXXKA7. What all these number means? Do i have to check them when choosing a ROM? Thank you!
so now u still on froyo right?
u need to flash stock samsung's gingerbread first. all of those custom rom need stock gingerbread rom as base, cannot directly flash them onto froyo.
read my previous post, the link to flash samsung's stock gingerbread using odin.
I've read. I upgraded to gingerbread you helped me a lot Anytime you come in ROMANIA i buy you a beer ))
i'm glad it works
My son has one of these ph's...
Soonish I will install recovery using odin & then make a nandroid of his stock rom...
once we have that done I'm guessing he'll want to try a custom rom
do I need to flash a 2.2 stock rom before trying CM7??
If so, which stock rom should I be using... I'm from New Zealand btw (next to Australia).
T.I.A
Pre-requisites:
Visit the Basebands thread and make sure that you are using a baseband that is recommended for CyanogenMod.
You need a rooted phone, ClockworkMod Recovery (first time users must flash with Odin), and ROM Manager. For more information on all three items, see the Getting started with ROM Manager & ClockworkMod section in post #2.

Thanx for reply ^^
but...my sons ph is stock 2.1, so it already has correct baseband
You're saying I can go straight to CM7 (from 2.1) as long as I flash correct baseband along with CM7 install?
Once I have CWM installed & everything backed up I'll give it a nudge

I understand, but you already need the 2.2 baseband version before installing CM7 port. It won't work with 2.1 baseband. Just go to madteam.co forum and grab the latest baseband version for your region, then flash it, and finally flash the CWM.
Stuck @ Odin ^^

Odin won't detect ph??
Cable is working... (can get into kies)
Ph is in download mode...
Drivers are installed (those for when ph is awake [auto installed via Win 7] & those from Samsung site when ph is in download mode [manually installed])
Must be the OPS file!!
I need one for GT I5500...
when I select the OPS that came in archive from the 'How to install CWM & CM7' thread... it shows I5500 @ the top of tool & not GT-I5500 from the images in the guide...
Please advise
These are the steps that I'm using to flash stock and other ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13958380&postcount=2
You have to pass the three key combination in order to enter "download mode". After you are in, you will like to load the OPS file which is named EUROPA_v1.0.ops. Choose "one package" in Odin options in the left and load the baseband that you've downloaded at the baseband thread in "One package" down in the right. Then connect the phone and the spot called "Com port mapping" will light up in yellow which means that not only that your phone has been detected, but it is ready to be flashed. Now click the "Start" button and wait a few seconds. Your phone will restart and probably will bootloop. Take out the battery and place it back in a few seconds later. Go to download mode again and load the CWM tar as "one package". Then flash again.
After the phone restarts you will be within the ClockworkMod recovery. Now it is time to place the update and gapps (should your son need google apps package for some reason) in the root folder of your microSD card (or in some folder called eg. CyanogenMod). Flash the CM update, wipe all data, cache, dalvik, battery stats, fix permissions, restart and you will see the blue skating robot. If you have a bootloop, redownload the update file for CM and reupload it to to sd card... now you are using the CM port by psyke83

Dude!! I flashed the baseband from madteam and now I'm in boot loop
Knew it sounded fishy
baseband on my moto is changed after rom install... not before
I'd appreciate if you could point me to a stock firmware that I can flash with Odin or tell me the key combination to get into recovery mode so I can restore the backup I made...
Edit: Found a English stock 2.2 rom which I flashed using Odin...
Can't we get into recovery with a key combo?? Seems odd
Here is the sequence of upgrading from 2.1 to CM7 port:
Plan B
1. flash baseband for 2.2 (or flash 2.2 itself and it will replace 2.1 baseband with 2.2 one)
2. flash CWM and it will reboot in recovery mode
3. install CM7 from update file from goo-inside.me...
or:
Plan A (psyke83 prefers this one)
1. root 2.1
2. install GooManager from G Play Store
3. open GooManager, check for updates, download update and enter recovery to install CM7
It looks like you've just completed step 1 from Plan B. Now it's time to visit download mode again and proceed with step 2, then step 3 and you are running CM7.
I tried going from stock 2.1 to CM7...my G5 is from the Middle East, with XSG product code so it was sitting on 2.1 since I bought it...
No matter how many times I tried going into recovery, performing the "4 wipes" and then installing in the correct sequence, it wouldnt leave boot loop...to top it up, my stock JJ2 rom flashed using Odin was also boot-looping...
I only rescued my phone by first flashing i5500XXJED and then going back to my stock ROM...
Was this because I didn't go from 2.2 to CM7?
got CM7 on it no probs ^^
tried reboot via power menu options & ph stuck at boot!?
Spent the better part of next 2 hours getting back to working 2.2...
will try suggestions below...
Edit: CM7 on & working ^^ going to stay away from 'Reboot' option though ;-P
Well, should you find CM7 not stable enough, just go with 2.2 until a stable CM7 relase is up.
You could also try this one: http://www.madteam.co/forum/development/(beta-released)-mad-rom-2-5/
Sms text is white on white... Swiping up turns text black.
The biggie is no lock screen?!
Any one got a fix for this bug?
King_Rat on tap
We've settled on clean rom ^^
visually it's bit of a dogs breakfast
Extra large slider tabs!? Baby blue on baby blue!? No theme engine? (anyone know how to manually install this??)
Functionality seems to be good ^^ couple of the games he likes have a screen time-out glitch...
Otherwise all is good
I am using SGS2 i9100 and rooted and CWM installed as follows:
1. PC Odin Flash LPB Firmware (ICS 4.0.3).
2. PC Odin Flash CF Root LPB Kernel.
3. Mobile Odin Flash Stock LPB Kernel to remove Yellow triangle.
4. Mobile Odin Flash CF Kernel again to get CWM Recovery as well as root.
So far everything is OK. I can boot to recovery and installed CheckROM v6. Perfect no problems.
Then decided to try MIUI (ICS) when it was released. After complete wipe, ROM installation completed and on reboot > Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Couldn't boot to recovery Just to Download Mode. Had to follow steps 1 to 4 again to get Phone working with root and recovery. Tried a couple of times with MIUI from different sources like miui.us or miuiandroid.com but same result. So back to CheckRom v6 which works without problem.
With recent better ICS ROMs available, tried to install Omega v1.0. Again Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Followed steps 1 to 4 again. Tried Omega 12.0 used by lot of people. Again Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Tried PC Odin Flash of Siyah Kernel. Got the Siyah screen to show on bootup but this remained a while ... ROM did not boot and then screen turned to Kernel Panic Upload Mode after waiting a couple of minutes.
After again doing steps 1 to 4 I am back on CheckROM v6 which works flawlessly.
Why can I not use any rom which tons of users are using? Is there a hardware peculiarity which is preventing this? Should I try out old or new or ICS bootloaders? I don't want to mess with bootloaders as I hear these can hard brick the device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
PS: My Complete Wipe steps are:
1. Remove user data/Factory reset.
2. Clear Cache
3. Clear Dalvik Cache.
4. Optionally Format system partition in mounts and storage.
The reason is obvious ....Why old LPB???? Stay away.....
Start again from the GB rom better 2.3.5 from odin
Root with cf root and flash any rom what you want from CWM...
No need to change bootloader again...the one you get along with the gb rom is enough further for all
OK I have KE8 (Gingerbread ROM 2.3.3 which is latest for my location) downloaded. Will a PC Odin flash of this remove my current troublesome bootloaders? Or should I download another GB Rom 2.3.5 or newer for PC Odin Flash?
PS: I used LPB assuming that an ICS Rom would give me the bootloaders which would not give me headaches from installing custom ROMs from XDA here. If someone could explain to me where my logic went wrong?
ZACQ8 you called LPB old, but wouldn't it be newer than the 2.3.5 GB ROMs?

you can flash the one which you are having now, but make sure CF-root is available for that to Root and install CWM, for your further flashing of ROMs,
yes that will replace the bootloader, but doesnt matter, it will be ok for all custom roms, (unless some Rom devs insist to replace bootloader first for their Roms)
I told the LPB is the old in the sence, it is old beta release among the ICS versions. Kernel Panic was highly reported while using this version.
Kernel panic Mode is hardly reported when people are coming from GB roms and installing Roms from CWM. that is why I sugested flash a GB rom from ODIN then move to any ROM through CWM.
You can also flash and try latest ICS version from ODIN.
Cool. That's the task for tonight then.
Sent from my GNex on AOKP.
if you are flashing a custom ICS ROM take the LP9 version,
one custom ROM with LP8 version has gaven me once the Kernel Panic
Goodluck
Thanks that worked. Installed Omega 1.0. Downloading Omega 2.1. No kernel panics. So from now the phone shoul dbe trouble fre hopfully.
wen u get prblms instead of keeping on flashing jus stop an ask..
flash stock gb after wipe..
then root properly..
don go for any rcs, beta, alpha root release....
then its a good idea to flash stock ics ...
wen u get a clear pic,u can go for aokp, aosp which will b diff...
bottom line kno some basics instead of jumping far away......cheerz
Looks like I'm in the same situation, I had used odin to flash with I9100_CODE_I9100XXLP2_CL57619_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 back in Jan/Feb and flashed it with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LP2-v5.2-CWM5 kernel.
I was then able to flash new ROMS no problem with CWN
Then flashed the other day with the latest Ressurection Remix 2.2 and am getting the dreaded "Kernel Panic...."
So I'm back to the I9100_CODE_I9100XXLP2_CL57619_REV02_user_low_ship ROM.
My plan is to flash it with a 2.3.6 ROM using odin, then apply the CF-Root kernel and from there I'm hoping I can then apply Ressurection Remix ROM.
I'm just a bit unsure of which versions of the ROMS to use, I haven't been able to find a guide to selecting the correct versions for my phone. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

That's the stock kernel, you can't flash ROMs with it because it includes stock recovery, not CWM. Use Odin to flash another custom kernel.
