Hello, I see that there are some people with broken USB ports, and I am wondering if I am suffering from the same, and would like some comments.
Until yesterday everything was fine. The first thing I noticed was that the phone would not turn on when I rebooted it (I'm using Wolfbreaks CM6 ROM). When the phone powers of, the LED turns green, like when it is entering flash mode, and it hangs there until I unplug the phone, and remove the battery, put it back, and press the power button. There is no offline battery icon, and no background light, the phone looks like it completely off, except for the led.
When I plug the phone into the computer, it is not detected, and the phone does not show the SDCARD mount option, and the debug connection icon, even though it is enabled. When I do the same in Linux, I can no longer see the phone, when I issue an "lsusb" command to list connected USB devices. As a last resort I tried to get the phone in to flash mode, and get it back to stock, but Flashtool, never sees the phone, and I have done this a lot, so I do not think that I'm doing it wrong.
Model: X10i
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: 2.0.52
Kernel Version; 2.6.29.6-b10
Mod version: Xperia TW 007
I have the deep sleep problem, and would like to get back to the stock kernel, and baseband 54. But now I want my USB to work, it is no fun having the phone otherwise, I use the USB, in trying to learn developing Android applications as well, and the debug feature is something I can't live without.
Anybody tried anything similar, and do you think I can fix it by soldering the USB connector?
Kind Regards
Martin
sounds like the flash rom && usb port are fubarred :/
i had a usb port go out last month an had to get the phone replaceed by att so that is what i woud do.
*EDIT*
oh and your not geting to the SE logo right? and you cant make it in to xrec
Getting even worse
Thanks for answering.
I am now certain that it is the usb connector, found that if I wiggled it right, it would work. Got in to flash mode and flashed half a baseband, before the connection was lost. I can't get a connection anymore, so the phone is dead with some sort of graphics with a phone an an exclamation mark. I have no receipt for the phone, as I bought it second hand, so I opened it up, but even with my tiniest solder-tip, there is not enough free room to get at the solder points. Anybody have a good technique for getting the thing re-soldered?
Did you try another cable?

Tonight I'll hopefully have a visit from a friend, who has an X8, and I will try his cable, and see what happens.
Try mount in xRecovery in partition tools if don't work its problem with PC

I successfully flashed my X10 with 2.1 and had no issues. I believe last week I got the multitouch update from SE. No problems. Today however, I had a major problem. I was testing a program called Blacklist by calling my phone from another phone to see if it works. When I went to slide the slide over to send the call to voicemail, the phone buzzed for about two seconds and shut off. When I tried to turn the phone back on it buzzed like it should and that was it, nothing. I updated the phone with the PC Companion, the Update service, and it updated and reinstalled the software according to the program but still wouldn't turn on. I tried to reflash the phone using the X10 Flash tool from this site; it flashed successfully but still nothing. I even left the battery out of the phone while I was at work; still nothing happened. So with all this, any ideas???
Does anybody recognize this and have any suggestions?
I would contact the dev who created Blacklist.
I don't think it was Blacklist that caused it. Even when I reflashed the OS it still had the same problem. My friend mentioned about flashing the baseband. But I'm trying to see what this forum has to say.
If it was the OS, then SEUS or PC Companion "repair software" should work. It basically wipes your phone and does a fresh install, which would fix any errors you created.
Also, try this... Remove the battery and leave the back off the phone. Then plug the phone into the charger/wall with the battery out. Wait for a minute or longer, and then insert the battery while it is still plugged in. Wait a minute, and then try and turn the phone on. If it doesn't work, try altering the steps a bit like starting with the phone plugged in, or plugging it into usb port on your PC rather than the wall. I haven't had to do this myself, but I read somewhere that this works when the x10 dies.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out.
I just tried this and still nothing. I am going to try to downgrade to 1.6 and see what happens.
I downgraded to 1.6 and still nothing.
Forgive me if these questions appear naive or insulting....
Sometimes (actually most times) it is something simple, so let's back up. Since it vibrates when pressing power on button, it would appear the phone's power circuit is functional. How much charge did you have left in the battery when this happened? What happens with the LED notification light when you plug it in to charge? Basically, are you sure the battery isn't dead or worse bad? A red/pink LED notification would be a sign the battery is charging/working.
**If it is not charging check to see if the USB cable or port damaged? I think my usb cable quit working after my first flash. I thought it was my phone until I read about usb cables suddenly not working after flashing... weird? Now I use an HTC cord.
use x10 flash unbricker it solved all my problems when my phone would work.
Hey i had this problem (but i dont have the MT update yet ) but it was my memory card stopping the X10i to not turn on :s try a new memory card XD
@agentJBM
I thought about the same thing last night, so I plugged the phone into the charger for the night. The battery feels warm like it's been charging. When I plug the charger in the green light comes on for a bit then turns off, which is normal. However, still the same issue.
@soldier33 Do you have a link???
@Si-The-Spike I thought about this before. I pulled the memory card and the sim card out and tried to see what would happen, nothing.
I at least know this much: the phone is able to be put into flash mode, and the phone is able to accept a charge. I just can't figure out why it can't boot.
I cant seem to find a working lnik anymore. So ill upload the one I have saved. Hoepfully it works.
Much appreciated
sorry it taking so long got very slow upload speed just 20kb. and the file size is 130mb
here you go zshare.net/download/87207469347a26f2/
Thanks. I'll try it out tonight.
Unfortunately it did not work. I'm completely lost on what happened.
Try completely uninstalling SEUS, PC Companion, and Flash Tool & firmware from your PC. Do a fresh install of SEUS and then try to update/repair software. I read it may take 4 or so attempts, especially if you are having battery trouble.
I've never done it but there is a way to open in safe mode as well by pressing menu button while turning phone on. Try searching that as well.
Alrighty, so I've been reading and searching for the last few days, so I'm hoping I avoid asking anything that's been covered ad nauseum, but I haven't been able to find anything that quite fits my situation.
So I've acquired a Verizon Samsung Fascinate from Craigslist that the owner apparently screwed up terribly flashing ROMs to it. I got it for cheap, and was aware of the issues when I got it; just hoping to fix it now. So from what I can gather, he's installed SuperClean 2.9, and it seems to still be on the stock kernel (default recovery is still there). I've been able to flash CWM 3.0.0.8 through ROM Manager, but have learned that v3+ is pretty much useless for the Fascinate due to the different scripting used in the ROMs. I can't, however, seem to find a working flashable version of a prior CWM. If I try to download an older version through ROM Manager, it tells me there was an error downloading the recovery image.
____________
The problems:
____________
Okay, so with that background information, the problem is that when I attempt to turn the phone on, I'm presented with the empty battery icon. If I leaved it plugged in by USB long enough, it will eventually bring up download mode. If I leave it for much longer, I'm then able to power up the phone and use it as normal. I can let the battery fully charge, but as soon as I power off the phone, it again believes the battery is dead. Lather, rinse, repeat. Strangely enough, if I plug it into a wall charger, it flashes back and forth rapidly between Charging and Not Charging. From a USB, it will do the same sometimes, but with enough plugging and unplugging, it will eventually charge. I've also tried a new battery and different cables to no avail.
Also, from download mode, my computer (and consequently, Odin) cannot see the device. Windows doesn't even recognize that a device is connected (Windows 7 64-bit, and have tried on another Windows 7 32-bit with both the Samsung drivers, and those installed through the Kies suite). The phone is recognized just fine if I boot into Android and connect it, so it's not cable issue, it's just something particular with download mode. I've been able to acquire a few different ROMs, but they all require CWM 2.6 or earlier due to the scripting. If I can just get perhaps an update.zip for this, to flash through the stock recovery, or another suggestion on how I might revert it back to a usable state?
Thanks!
TLDR: Fascinate running stock kernel and SuperClean 2.9. PC doesn't recognize device in download mode, the only recovery I can get is CWM 3.0.0.8 which I can't use due to scripting issues, and it's not recognizing the battery's charge level. Help getting CWM 2.6 or prior, or other suggestions?
sounds like h2o got into the usb port and shorted it out...Im sure thats not the answer you want to hear, but its all I got. good luck!!
Edit
*one question...Did you get into download mode with the battery pulled? Im pretty sure thats the only way it will function correctly.

That's a possibility, I guess. I just suspect something else due to the fact that once it DOES finish charging (and it will eventually), it then immediately registers as dead as soon as I cut the power.
So I should be going into download mode without the battery in? Gotcha. I'd read a few different methods, and some had mentioned plugging in with the battery, and some without. So it should be without. Interesting, yeah, nothing happens holding the volume down and plugging it in sans battery.

Hmm, nope. Two computers, two USB cables, no activity whatsoever without the battery installed.
Try removing the battery, and holding the vol down button when plugging in to the pc..if you can get the phone into download mode, fire up odin and see if you get "com" and a number next to it...if you do you can flash away...my suggestion... odin eb01 and the atlas 2.2 pit just to be safe...you say you can only get to stock recovery but you think its running ef rom...unless your sure that's what its running...voodoo or not?? The eb01 and pit will format everything and get you to a fresh start to put what ever rom/kernel you want without more future problems

Yeah, I just can't get to download mode without the battery installed. With the battery installed and the phone in download mode, the PC won't recognize the device is even attached (hence, no Odin). Odin DOES see it if I boot up the phone into Android, but I can't flash it from there.
I know it's running SC 2.9, but I have no idea how to check if it has Voodoo installed as well. I don't THINK so.

I'm not trying to be a jerk so don't take this the wrong way...but you said you can only get to download with the battery installed?...I think your confusing recovery with download mode. If you can get to download mode it shouldn't matter if the battery is in it or not...you can get to download mode by only 3 methods that I'm aware of...
1: selecting download mode from they power button menu ( if your current rom supports that feature.)
2: removing the battery and holding the down volume button. ...or just removing the battery, plugging into usb in a pc, and then pushing the volume down button.
3: a usb jig that can be made or purchased that will trick the phone into download mode.
there may be another way but those are the methods that I'm aware of. the point is if you can get to the download screen (big yellow triangle with the construction android guy) you should be able to flash with odin...
Again please don't take this the wrong way I just want to make sure that we are on the same page since I'm trying to help and you would be the first I've ever heard of if you really can get to download mode but still can't flash anything

Not taken the wrong way, it's always good to double check to make sure we're on the same page.
If you're not supposed to be able to enter download mode with the battery installed, then that might mean that something is more seriously wrong with the device, because I can certainly enter download mode (yellow triangle -- downloading... do not turn off target) with the battery installed, and only with the battery installed. I'm definitely aware of the difference in recovery and download, don't worry, though I am new to SGS modification (had a Droid previously).
So yes, right now, my phone is plugged into my PC via USB, with the battery installed, and showing download mode. The computer recognizes nothing, though. I might have to disassemble this thing and just see if anything looks amiss with the battery connectors inside.
Heh, just noticed, looks like this thing has water damage after all. Pretty sure the attached image shows the water indicators, right?
Getting into download with the battery in is not strange or mean something is broken, also I did not know that those little stickers were water markers...mine however look the same as yours?? Have you tried putting the phone and battery separately into a container of white rice for a day or 2?? its supposed to remove all extra water that may be present.
As a side note
When I'm on cm7 my pc doesn't see my phone but odin will still work...I'm using vista home edition using the samsung drivers...but I know some folks have had to use the generic samsung drivers or the ones used for the nexus s...but that's more for people on an mtd build...at this point I'm really just thinking out loud...maybe it will spark something to try..?

those water mark indicators look normal. I believe they turn blue when wet.
I didn't see anyone mention this, if I missed it I'm sorry, but I've heard that Odin does not play well with any usb cable other than the stock one that came with the phone. I don't know how to tell the difference, but that may be something to look into.
I have used a Blackberry Usb cable and Odin saw my phone....
I have 7 64bit and the Samsung drivers work fine.
You said that when you connect the usb as a drive in the rom it works?
Also a trick that once worked for me is take a small peice of paper and fold it a few times to clean out the GUNK in the usb port on the phone.
it will come out looking black!
then pop the battery
plug the phone in to the usb
and hold volume down button until
then see if odin shows it.
Silly question i also thought while typing: Are you using a usb 2.0? I know that is a silly question but maybe try a different port, or a powered usb hub....Just some ideas good luck!

Yup, those are water markers, but I've recently learned through some google-fu that they look that way when they're GOOD. I just assumed red Xs meant bad.

I have heard that there are differences in cables, and I've tried two, but neither are Samsung. I've ordered one off of Amazon that claims to be OEM, but I'm not exactly confident that's what I'll get. Will be worth trying for sure.

Yes, when plugged in through the ROM, it's recognized as a drive, Odin even pops up the yellow box. Download mode, not so much. I'll give the USB cleaning thing a try; I might have some alcohol tips or something around here.
And yeah, I've been sure to use USB 2.0 on both computers I tried it on.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, they're all very much appreciated.

I'm almost positive you need to use the samsung brand cable..at least I've seen warnings of it and never dared to try odin with my old blackberry cable although I still use it for car charging, but that's all...I would venture to say the cable is more than likely the culprit, or possibly a dirty usb connection like a previous post mentioned

Alright, so I managed to get it booted up again (it's been getting more and more difficult to get it to boot), and I've found an app called "SGS kernel flasher". Any insight as to what kernel I could install that would allow me to flash a permanent custom recovery? My phone info is below:
Hardware Version:

Firmware Version

Baseband Version:

u might have to reinstall the drivers.

you problely done this already, but if its on a froyo bootloader, having the USB cable plugged in and connected to a computer makes it go into download mode when turned on. I was doing that be4 and I kept on going into download mode, when I was trying to get into recovery mode. just sharing my stupitidy .
Yeah, it will go into Download mode immediately when the power key is pressed, regardless of whether its connected to a USB cable or not. Effing thing won't charge the battery anymore either, as far as I can till. Feel like throwing the whole thing against the wall.
Try setting it up for reflashing with Odin running, connected to PC, but with battery out, then insert battery. Odin may recognize phone, you can then flash JFD and go from there. Or you might want to try flashing a bootloader first, see if that fixes it without wiping your phone.
Did you get water damage on it?
The most likely culprit is a bad USB port. Try these in order.
1) Try using a clean tooth brush and clean the port. Also try several cables, some of the male end are slightly thicker and will contact the female end better.
2) If that doesn't work, you'll need to open up the phone and clean the lines coming out of the back of the port - there are 7 silver colored wires distinctively coming out the back.. Look for any pieces of dirt stuck between the wires that's causing a short circuit.
3) If it looks pristine back there, then you'll need a multimeter to test the wires on the back from #2, test for power coming in (with the usb plugged in). If there is power, then the problem is deeper in - which mean you'll need to replace the motherboard (aka you're ****ed). If there is no power coming in, then the port itself is bad and need to be replaced (Don't try this yourself, go to a professional for repair)
I had a similar issue and kies fixed it for me. I uninstalled the vibrant drivers and installed kies(just for the drivers that it has) and it worked perfect for me after.

Kies didn't work for me. But my phone is probably a little more damaged than yours. Mine was included in a load of laundry. I'm surprised after fully drying it that it was at least able to screen on, albeit stuck in "download" mode. Looking at the insides, I see a lot of residue on the board from the wash. I'm hopeful that some spring cleaning might be able to save it.
This Kies "fix" seems the most promising after almost giving up on this.
Thanks for the replies. Ended up that its still under warranty (for 2 more weeks!) so I sent it back to Samsung for repair. Hopefully, will get it back in one piece
Hi all,
It seems my X10 mini pro is bricked.
Briefly: When I turn on the phone, it vibrates. About 8 seconds llater, the screen lights up, but doesn't show anything, then goes dark again. It then keeps repeating this: once in a while, the screen lights up, but shows nothing, and then goes dark again.
When plugged in to charge, the LED light doesn't come on (and actually hadn't for a while when charging, even though the phone was still working).
I've deleted all the contents of the SD card and updated the firmware with SEUS and PC Companion; both don't come up with any errors and claim everything has been installed, but there is no change in the phone's behavior. Also tried to install the French stock ROM (the only link that seems to work in the Flashtool+ROM thread) using Flashtool, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any other sugggestions?
I was wondering whether it could actually be a battery problem, as I've had some issues with charging the phone for a while before this happened; e.g. the LED didn't work when charging, and on more and more occasions the phone didn't seem to charge when plugged in. Could this be caused by a problem with the battery? (Have ordered a new one from ebay, so will see what happens when it arrives.) I'm not aware that I did anything unusual with the phone software-wise that could have caused it to be bricked. (Phone was rooted, but I did that ages ago.)
Many thanks for your help!
could be the battery going bad since you mentioned you have it ages ago or so. or could be the cable as well.

I've had it for about 15 months. Is it normal for the battery to go after that amount of time?
Which cable do you mean?
i cannot really tell about the battery but the usb cable for your charger.
Ok, it's not the battery. I tried it in a shop with one of their batteries, which worked in their phone, and the phone still won't turn on.
Is there anyone who thinks it could still be a software issue?
Otherwise it seems my options are to send off the phone, which might cost a bit, or to start digging around in the phone myself for a bit. I found a disassembly guide online, but it scares me a bit, since the first step seems to be to lift off the keyboard, and I'm a bit worried about damaging it and about how to put it back. Has anyone else here got any experience with taking their X10 mini pro apart?
Thanks!
Charging issues etc are nornally to do with the dodgy USB port in the phone. Try wiggling the cable at the port end see if you can get it to charge then try a SEUS
Sent from my X10 Mini Pro using xda premium
No, it wasn't a charging issue.
Took it to be fixed, and it turned out it was the cable inside that connects the screen etc to the low part of the screen.
Now that the phone is working again, I've got to figure out how to get rid of the French keyboard layout that I got onto it when trying to fix the firmware ...
Why not flashing mine in my signature, it's QWERTY! ;-)

My girlfriend's X10 mini won't start anymore, so i bought her a new Xperia Mini. But i'd like to get however this one working again.
THE FACTS:
- Phone won't turn on in ANY way.
- Battery seems ok. I also disassembly it and cleaned the contacts.
- If connected to a pc, i can Hot Reboot and see the red led blinking, but it won't work all the times. If connected to a wall charger phone seems completely dead.
- Sometimes red led blink also if i hot reboot with phone disconnected. Sometimes.
- Only once, having power+home pressed, phone vibrate and my pc seems to recognize it. But it stock on installing peripherical driver and when i released home button to have a hand free for the mouse, phone disconnected.
- Neither Pc Compainon, neither SEUS, or Flashtools can recognize phone when plugged with back button pressed. It seems it cannot enter flash mode.
I searched and tried EVERY SINGLE thread, but nothing seems to work.
Am i doing something wrong, does someone have an idea, or may i consider this phone definitively bricked??
It sounds to me like your battery is well and truly dead and buried.
so, changing the battery is the way. ok, i'll try
Use the battery which is fully charged....then use SEUS...... Then u will get ur cell back....
