Hi
I was wondering how hard it would it be to make a custom kernal like k10 to be compatible with bb54. Or higher ?
I'm thinking the deep sleep issue is caused by improper baseband for my region and would like to see if this helps.
mmm im guessing pretty hard otherwise it would already be released, and work on the .49 or .52 is not completed yet, it may not even happen due to the gb release at the end of june and se bringing out new basebands and a new kernel.but only time shall tell
what is deep sleep?
The devs have come to the conclusion that BB 52 is the best so all development of kernels is based around that generation of BBs. Apparently there were features in 52 that were removed in newer generation BBs to improve battery life but the devs think they can customize kernels to provide comparable battery life and radio performance on 52 so all development will be based around that. It has nothing to do with it being "too difficult".

deeps sleep allows the phone to slow the activities of the phone that aren't essential while charging or just in standby mode, it helps save battery. everyone is trying to figure out right now why some people have it and others don't

hi i have had my sgs2 since may when it came out and have been updating with odin everytime a new FW comes out thanks to Intratech who does a great job
getting to know more and more about android thanks to all the great peeps on the forum!! i in last few days have got betterbatterystats app and have a question at the top of the list it has suspend and events process with a red line in bar graph?? does this mean these are drainin my battery??
with cpuspy if i exit all apps and lock my phone and awake after 5-10 mins i get about 90% deep sleep?
someone help me with my battery life and advise is this good?
thanks to anyone that can help me
Hey I'm no expert but see the thread about what the Android OS usage is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290020
thanks buts that all a little too technical for me!!
If you can't bother to read the thread, then your options are either:
1) just ignore it, because nobody really knows why suspend and events are so high, and there is not much you can do about it; or
2) change your kernel to SiyahKernel, then suspend and events will not show up in the stats, but it will probably not make any difference in your actual battery life.
its not that i cant b bothered i have spent time reading that thread i just dont understand everything everyone is talking about all the time sorry for being abit of a noob mate
i am running speedmods kernal k11 like yourself which i think is probs performing same as siyah kernal not much diff i didnt think in the two..getin decent battery life i just want to try and understand but yes from what people are saying suspend and events process are part of it going into deep sleep or something like that! anyways thanks for your input
i am running stock FW have never realy tried roms maybe this is something i will try in the future or just wait for ICS and see what thats like
Hello guys I am just new here and I am not able to post on the developer forums and only able to post here so here goes.
I am running my SGS2 on CM9 kernel and the Rootbox ICS 1.7 by bajee11 (many mnay thanks to him for the brilliant rom). But when I upgraded to 1.7 from 1.6 I noticed that the battery drains (well I would say) quite quickly when compared to 1.7. Mainly mobile standby and cell standby are showing up at 19% and 18% respectively. Is anyone else having this issue?
Also if anyone can help, when will I be able to post in the developer forums? Is it normally after 10posts?

for the time being just allow the rom and the kernel to settle down. and check for the issue after a cpl of recharge.
yes u have the 10post barrier for now hence unable to post on the rom devloper thread, once u get past the same u will be automatically eligible to post there

well i would suggest not to overclock or underclock the cpu, just leave it stock value, since the same might affect ur phone

What kernel have you selected to use with the rom? And I would suggest that you get better battery stats from xda applications section and cpu spy from the play store to see the wakelocks and if your device is deep sleeping

I am using the CM9 kernel and using the TW launcher on it...I have also underclocked it to 800MHz with ondemand using NoFrills CPU control...do u think tat would affect that battery life....I see that you are using the same ROM with Dark Knight Kernel??? Please can you tell me how good is ur battery life....because I thnk its tha nature of my kernel so will need to try reflashing it with a better kernel.....
And just downloaded CPU spy and it seems 60% time it is in deepsleep, 21% on 200MHz, 5% on 500MHz, 8% on 800MHz nd 4% on 1200MHz...so i guess that is the reason why.....can you advise me as to how I can get that reduced????
hi guys,
im still new to s3 . i read a post that said that ics was the best on s3 and battery was really good. would you reccommned for battery to try ics flash, or does it make the phone susceptible to sds or other maladies ? any advise please thank you

I've never really had ics as my android os for a long time, so i don't know about it getting any viruses in that os. But as far as jb goes, never encountered anyvmalware!
Might i suggest (even though i'm not directly answering your question) if you fear for your battery life you follow these steps:
-get a higher capacity battery. (I got a chinese, i think, one off the internet with 2850mAh capacity and it works just geat. Batrery+charger good for all i9300 batteries=15€. if ur in america u can probably get less. And for just the vattery even less. And i've also seen 3100mAh batteries, since mine is GREAT these must be like portable energy source XD)
-change kernel (need root. I suggest siyah kernel, as most stable. It also makes your phone faster without absorbing more battery, it instead safeguards battery life).
-change rom (need root. I suggest foxhound rom, very good with battery life, can't complain. While aosp roms tend to suck the life out of i9300, samsung based ones are more stable, so if you gotta choose, choose sammy)
--(if you're really paranoid about battery life)it requires root. Downclock cpu, or change cpu gorvernor (manager for cpu frequency on android. There are many different profiles, some aggressive some just want to save your battery life. More battery=slower cell).
Hope i helped:thumbup:

thanks for the reminder rootsu !
and logical solutions killbubble ill try them soon.
right now im with 4.3 archidroids and have temasek/ boefla kernel
love all the roms in the forum and have experienced foxhounds too
thanks guys
i tried out a few custom roms: neat rom, cm11, omni.... and they all share they same issue i've been trying to solve. BATTERY PROBLEM!
the thing i love about the 4.4 custom roms is how fast they move.... i try flashing kernels, underclocking with boeffla an the things still cant last a full day, an heat up massively on moderate use: music, whatsapp, sms,web browsing...
if anyone else has this problem and finds a solution to it please let me know. am kinda new hear so is there something am not doing rite?

Not for me. Did u overclock ur fone?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
nooo... underclocked to 1.3... smh
i guess maybe kitkat roms just done like my i9300
Try other kernel like googy max
It might be a hardware issue then. Try flashing stock, if still happens means hardware issue. If not, most probably the custom roms.

When I first got my phone on stock S3 firmware, it lasted 5-6 hrs with minor use. If you want to make the custom roms last longer on KitKat, stay away from Archi, undervolt and underclock the cpu. If you want it to last an insane amount of time, enable flight mode. ;DD

at first: this is not a "whats the best rom" thread.
i have 2 very focused questions:
What are the idle times with those different roms?
Are there some Main feature differences?
Aktually im running cm11 m5 snapshot with smartassv2 Governor. its smooth but the battery life is kinda poor.
Im looking for a rom with long battery life. And i dont care about google now, talking to my phone(ok google) nor i need the special features from the standart samsung rom.
Would be realy helpfull if u can review to my questions. Greetings!
pls apologize my bad english.
1 each phone is different depending on what's installed and running.
2 read there threads or flash each ROM and find out that way. You forgot about aokp?

2. thx for informing abaout aokp!
1. im asking for someone who did a test with the same phone and all roms. i dont ask for different situations, i sked fpr idle time and features!
Probably there is somebody out there who testet it and can present his results

There are no definitive results, I have used both and I keep coming back to Omni due to the fact that on SlimKat music stutters like crazy when the screen is locked. Also, Omni updates are small enough to update often without having to download a complete update, to many users this a huge deal due to data limitations in certain countries. As for usage, idle time etc, like stated before, that depends entirely on what is installed on your device. Install a bunch of apps that need to constantly receive data updates and you will have battery drain and very little deep sleep. Where features are concerned, you kinda learn to live with limitations due to missing features on a specific rom. If you really want, you can most likely find an app that will bring a missing feature to a rom. I see a lot of people throwing their toys out the cot because one of the other does not have a specific feature implimented, yet the developers have done so with good reason, usually either performance or battery life.
With all said, there are many roms out there, Omni and SlimKat aren't the only players. It's difficult to compare roms nowadays because you are never quite sure if your kernel tweaking or custom kernel with it's hundreds of tweaks is the reason for a device not going into deep sleep either.
Give them all a try and decide for yourself, nandroid backups and apps like Titanium Backup makes it so easy.

Thx for your long, interessting and helping text!
im missing only 1 thing. if someone flashes all roms, doesnt install any apps. Only new rom and full wipe before, restart and tracks the time the phone has battery. Dont u think this is a possibility to compare the roms battery usage? i think there is no one who does this, but i probably will try this and put down a little table here. so people like me are able to see the rom with the best battery efficiency. so if they decide this rom has not enough performance, they can switch to "battery efficiency Number 2" and so on.
greetings

Sure you can do what you stated but bear in mind how will you compare the battery life across roms..
There should be some standardized test... Like looping video playback or some other method which does not change based on you usage habits..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Pa is another you're missing from you're list of developed roms. What you could do is test video playback, calls incoming/outgoing,one game of choice "high end battery draining game" and compere them all. As for the kernel tuning.. Read about what really happens and you will fine not a lot does happen with UV/uc .

You can compare but you have to use that phone for more days not like just one and you have to full charge and then discharge 2 or 3 times till the phone make the correct battery stats. So i think you can test but better with daily use or get an app that drains battey faster well i think this may work
