[Q] How to install themes? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm running dasbamf 1.7, and tried installing the mattHD theme by renaming the zip file to update.zip, rebooting to recovery, then running update.zip. It took, but I don't see the theme after rebooting???
Should it be installed automatically after reboot or is there a way to activate?

All you have to do is...
Backup your current Rom / setup
Download the file.
Boot into recovery.
Install zip from SD card
Find the file in your (download) folder.
Install
No need to rename it.
Don't install as an update.

Yep just install it the same way you installed dasbamf 1.7. But it is a good idea to have a bbackup.

Nooby question.

I successfully flashed (cm6) for the first time and got everything working correctly but I can't seem to find the Android Market. Now from what I read I need to install the gapps file. I found it downloaded it straight on the phone. Am at the clockworkmod recovery, but.....how do I install it?
install zip from sd card?
Wont that mess up the ROM
sorry im fairly new to all this.
From Clockwork choose - install zip from sdcard, then - choose zip from sdcard, then browse to where you saved the gapps file and select it. It won't mess up your ROM.

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installing Google Apps...
Installation Complete!
E:Error in /sdcard/download/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
and then it froze at that.. /:
EDIT:::::
Disregard, I rebooted and redid the process and it worked out, thanks for the help!

Yes you install the gapps.zip file from Clockworkmod recovery by selecting install zip from sd card. You need to install it from ClockworkMod because all of these Google Apps will be installed in the /apps directory. No this won't mess up the ROM because the structure of the zip file determines what gets written to the various partitions on the phone. The gapps.zip file contains files that will be written to the /apps directory. A ROM zip file will typically have *.img files in it like boot.img as well as files for the /apps directory.
This was a bug in rom manager with gapps. You followed the procedure correctly fyi.

Alright great. Yeah like I said after that weird error message all I did was restart the phone go back into clockwork and install the zip again and there was no error this time around so now I have all the Google Apps. Thanks to everyone for the help.

[ZIP][RECOVERY] EMMC Recovery Repair

UPDATE: Since some of you guys are still finding this useful, I updated the CWM version to 3.0.2.8. Please note that ROM Manager is the best way to install CWM 3.0.2.8. You should only need this .zip if you need to restore the B&N boot loader.
There are a number of CWM installable .zip files being distributed that break Clockworkmod in a way that Rom Manager will not fix. This .zip file will reinstall the B&N bootloader (to enable the recovery buttons) and install ClockworkMod on your internal memory. This .zip will only help if you have installed a "flashable" .zip and can no longer get into CWM by holding N + Power on boot.
This file can be installed with IOMonster's bootable CWM to re-enable the ability to use CWM without an SD card.
How to use:
1) Create a bootable CWM SD card from the link above.
2) Mount the SD card on your computer and copy the RecoveryFix.zip file to it.
3) Boot the Nook into CWM from the SD card.
4) Choose "install zip from sdcard"
5) Choose "choose zip from sdcard"
6) Browse to the RecoveryFix.zip and select it.
7) Choose "Yes - Install RecoveryFix.zip"
CWM should now work by booting and holding the N + Power buttons.
Technical details:
The bootloader (u-boot.bin) file included with the stock image has code to look for the recovery key sequence on boot. It also contains the "Touch the Future of Reading" splash screen. Some of the update .zip releases include a custom uboot.bin (to change the splash screen) that does not look for the recovery keys...so there's no way to boot into recovery without an SD.
Currently the only automated way to put the correct files back is by using one of the stock recovery .zips. These take the entire system back to stock though. All this .zip does is replace the stock u-boot.bin file, CWM uRecRam and CWM uRecImg files on the /boot partition. This can also be easily fixed by booting any image from an SD card and copying these files manually.
is this for use with any flashable rom or only certain ones? i'm on hcv4 and want to make sure this is safe to use before flashing it.
This worked fantastic! Thank you!

This is a standalone fix - its only necessary if you've flashed a rom and could no longer boot into CWM recovery afterward.
thanks again xawen!
Thanks so much for this! Great work!

It should work with any build. It does not replace any of the build specific files, just the boot loader and the recovery images.
Works on phiremod (CM7). I was stressing why I couldn't reach my internal recovery, but was too lazy to do any research on the matter. Just stumbled upon this and everything is fixed again
Just what I was looking for... thanks!

what do you mean by "everything is fixed again"?
I like phiremod and all, but no internal storage is irking me and I want to go back to rooted stock and try to make a CM7 bootable SD.
Flashed this, now I'm stuck on the "Touch the Future of Reading" splash screen. Running CM7 nightly latest, dalingrin's 1100MHz Overclock.
Edit: Trying to boot, won't get past that damn splash screen. Tried reflashing cm7-encore-full-5.zip, gapps, got nothing. Going to try flashing the overclock again and see if that helps.
Edit2: No dice. I don't have a backup, either. Guess I have to flash a whole new boot.img?
This should be stickied. There are a LOT of CWR files around here right now.

Same thing kept happening to me. I would hold down the power button or power+n button or power+volume up + n button to get the NC to shut down. Then, I'd press the power+volume up + n button for a few seconds; this would get it to boot into CWR. From CWR I'd select reboot system. After that it would have no problem fully booting (until the problem happeend again). I did notice that after a while the startup boot took longer. After pressing the power button to power on the NC it would take several seconds before the "touch the future of reading" screen to come up, and it would take several more seconds (30 or so) for it to get past that screen.
I'm not sure what the beneft is of doing this; as long as I have a CWR bootable microSD with me (always in the NC's case) I don't need this.

This fixed my nook. Thanks!!!!!
Works - after a few tries!
Really appreciate the work. Thanks!
While I keep my boot disk with me, I am very happy to have the ability to power+N into CWR.
Great work, thanks m8s!

Can you be more specific about exactly which u-boot.bin, uRecRam and uRecImg files are included - including source and version ?

This .zip has the stock (B&N) u-boot.bin and the uRecRam and uRecImg for CWM 3.0.0.5. It was built a while ago to fix an issue with specific CMW installable Froyo .zip files that were being distributed. I haven't seen any CM7 images with this problem, but if anyone still has a need for this I can update to a current CWM version and post tonight.

Aha - I looked more closely and saw that it is an old thread that was brought to the surface by a "thanks" comment.
question
So I flash this fix and can get into CWM 3.0.0.5, then I flash the official CWM 3.0.1.0 and can no longer get into recovery. I also tried the manual procedure using adb. Still no dice.
What am I doing wrong?

[Q] Trying to install new rom

So, i am trying to load this new ROM (the Vicious rom). I go into clockwork recovery & select install zip from sdcard, then i choose zip from sdcard, & instead of loading the new rom it says: Finding Update package, opening update package, installing update package, then it is complete....how do i get it to load the rom?
additional info:
I cannot install any ROM now, it runs through this short update process I explained above. Am I missing something that allows the rom to be loaded?
That's how roms are installed. Did you reboot after you installed the rom?
i had issues with clockwork so i used team win recovery here-- http://www.mediafire.com/?ye85b3n1f72nen3
Maybe try this one and see if it helps just put on root of sd card
make sure it is named PG05IMG.ZIP go into the bootloader
by shutting down phone rstarting by holding down volume arrow then power till it comes up in bootloader and do the update

Either you are choosing apply sdcard:update.zip accidentially instead of "install zip from sdcard" or you still have a PG05IMG on your sdcard? If you still have that img on your card, you will have to hook your phone up to your computer > boot into recovery > mounts and storage > mount sdcard > enable usb and find that IMG and delete it. Then go back do your wipes, and install zip from sdcard.
Try redownloading the ROM in case it may have been corrupted during the original download.

[Q] missing /sdcard/update.zip

i have re flashed my phone a while ago. it went well. from 2.3.5 to eclair 2.1. i reflashed due to wifi error, however, eclair installed, rooted the the phone, i plan to reflash it with a custom rom, Bionix 1.3.1 or Project V. im using the AIO toolbar, i tried it first with the Bionix, reinstalll packages 4 times. and i get an error. also with the Project V rom. same thing. error as well. the error says:
cannot locate /sdcard/update.zip
does this mean that my phone is not yet rooted? i have super user though.
Mostly likely you do not have the CWR Update.zip on your SDcard.
Go here and download Option B and put it on your SDcard. Reinstall twice and then flash your ROM
i already copy and pasted the file in /sdcard however it is still not working? shall i got into CWR? to make it work?
Put the CWR zip from my earlier post on your sdcard (not in a folder-just plain on card by itself). Might have to rename it Update.zip, but not sure about that one.
Boot into recovery (Blue) hit Reinstall Packages.
Will reboot back into recovery (Blue) and hit Reinstall packages again, will boot into CWR (Green).
From there, find Install zip from SD card and hit it. Now you can find you ROM and highlight it and install.

UOT kitchen questions

hello people,
i tried uot kitchen and made a custom status bar. after i got it from the pickup page i extracted it. when i saw it there were a lot of files. so my question is that what do i flash using odin. the files are app, framework, META-INF, and settings.its probably one of the last two files.
Flash the zip in CWM recovery. Or you could push the apk files to your phone using adb or root explorer. Just make sure framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk go to /system/framework/ and systemui.apk goes to /system/app
Sent from my Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1)
which zip do i flash? in the settings file or the meta one? and if i use the second option do i have to erase the previous files of framework and the other one?
You flash the whole zip file that includes those folders and files. You don't extract it after downloading it.
Sent from my Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1)
when i tried to flash the whole zip file odin doesnt recognize it. so how am i supposed to flash that?
In the how to page on there website it says reboot into recovery. Wipe cache nd then flash it. Does the flash part mean the "apply update from SD card"? If so I tried it but it didn't work. So how am I supposed to make this work??????
You flash with CWM, not ODIN. They are totally different things. In CWM recovery you choose 'install zip from sd card' then browse to the zip file and select it.
Sent from my Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1)
How do you get in cwm recovery mode? Y pressing the volume up key and holding the power button right?? The options are reboot apply update from SD card factory reset and wipe cache. Which one do i do? When I tried the second option it didn't work.
hahah okay first thing you do is make shure you have the zip in one piece and in your internal sd card. Then completely turn off your device. then hold the vol up and power button at the same time. you should then be in cwm. what you do is choose install .zip from internal storage. go down to your uot file and select it. then select yes. it will install and then go back and back again and then choose reboot now. It should work. Thanks button.
You do have a kernel that has CWM recovery in it right? Either rumirands or Entropy's have CWM, but not the stock kernel.
Sent from my Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1)
Oh so that's the problem....after I download the entropy kernel I will try to do it.
I followed the instructions but after I flashed the zip and it said that it was successful nothing has changed. I rebooted and still nothing. I used the Galaxy update-binary. All I was flashing was a package with a custom battery and boot animation.
another problem has come up. when i put my player in download mode my laptop doesnt recognize it......
ok so i got to the cwm recovery mode and then did all the stuff and then iinstalled it. i then rebooted it but there was no change...is there anyway to make it work!!!????
(but the kernel worked out....so yea ^_^)
