Next lg update - Optimus One, P500, V General

Does anyone know when gigerbread official release will be available?
trimis de pe androidul meu

I saw a video of a preliminary 'official' Gingerbread running on a P500 which says end of June I think.
I have no idea if it is really official though

hopefully we get the gingerbread update by end of june.
<fingers crossed>

"Days to weeks" per lgecz @ FB.

There are 652364235647 topics about the Gingerbread update on this forum. Was another one really necessary?
If you can't wait for it then flash a custom 2.3.x ROM and that's it...

Well, I for one would like an official P509 gingerbread. It would save me a lot of the hassle I'm currently going through to get a couple t-mobile apps running on a custom rom. Of course an official P500 gingerbread doesn't mean t-mobile will deem to provide us an update.
The other benefit of an official update will be the ability to rebase on a more-current kernel. Today all the Gingerbread-based ROMS are still running a froyo based kernel (2.6.32 with backports) as far as I can tell. I would expect an official gingerbread release would actually move the kernel forward, and therefore be beneficial to the 2.3 custom ROMS as well.

[NEED HELP] Regarding OTA Updates

I have a qeuestion regarding these OTA Updates
[*]My Hero is from Orange UK. But as of now, I m running SuperHero in it. So is it necessary to go back to the stock ROM to get the updates through OTA. Or is it enough to be connected.?
What for the official 2.1 release you mean? If you update you're unlikely to ever get it rooted again (though i'm sure someone will do it in time). But you'll be stuck on 2.1 til HTC update it (unlikely). If I were you i'd just wait for the updates to come from the community.
If you're talking about SuperHero OTA updates just run hte villainrom updater...

If you wanted the official Orange update (presuming it did come OTA), then you would need to be running the official ROM.
SuperHero is gonna be getting an update though which will make it more like the official ROM
I'd strongly advise not to install any stock update, as that will include a new SPL, which will try to prevent you rooting again. Stick with a custom ROM for now, and then you'll be able to grab a 'safe' copy of the final ROM from a dev over here when it's available. That way, you get a final copy but you also keep root.

Thanks fella. Much appreciated. I am very well aware of the effects of the official ROM Update. I bought my Hero from Orange UK, then I unlocked it and I am using it in India now. So was curious and confused regarding the update. The only thing which custom 2.1 ROMs didn't give me is a 'working exchange sync'. Each time I tried to sync it gives me an error caused by security certs. So I m still relied upon my Black berry for my official emails.

[Q] Help

Just one Question
i had rooted and flashed the touchscreen fix.
After updating my device wil the root and fix removed?
Yes. Updating your phone to the latest version of the OS from LG will replace the fixed kernel and undo the rooting process. Even worse, the updated versions of 2.2 are not rootable.
Update means - update from LG stock rom?

Yes. I think that the LG stock ROM is Android 2.2 and the updates that are available over-the-air are 2.2.1 (and maybe 2.2.2?) but those two are not rootable.
So is there any way to get android 2.2.1 without doing any normal update?
Noejn's custom ROM called "Prime" is based on v2.2.1.
This is the link to that thread, read it and see if you can flash the touchscreen fix over this ROM, then maybe it suits your needs.

[Q] Advice: official gingerbread vs. home made

Hi, I'm a noob seeking advice. I rooted my phone a few weeks back just because I could, but haven't really done much with it since. I haven't upgraded from 2.2.1 yet -half because I've been busy and half because I'm shy about bugs.
My question is: since LG claims it's going to release the official upgrade this month, what are the advantages of official upgrade versus unofficial? It seems like every unofficial one has bugs still, so I'd be tempted to go back to official. Also, since I've already rooted it, I'm under the impression that kills official updates. If I want to go back to the official version, would I have to unroot it first or is there a way to just allow the official update to go through?

About the 2.3 official update, everyone is waiting for that, since 2.3 unoficial Roms have bugs and unimplemented features. For example, I love the CyanogenMod rom but I had to gave up on it since the the bluetooth is not working for auriculars and for the bluetooth system on my car. The 2.3 official update will solve all the problems for these current unoficial Roms, so if you really need a fully working Rom, better not go for those 2.3 Roms available.
You should not upgrade to 2.2.1 (or 2.2.2) using the regular LG update method. That will "unroot" your phone. There are 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 official unrooted Roms (just google for that, you will find them pretty easy). In that case you won't use the KDZ method but the safer Android Recovery method (avoid using the KDZ!! it's the easiest way to kill your phone!!).
So... if you just want to "unroot" your phone, you can always get the official update back in your phone, by using the KDZ method. KDZ reflashes your phone, and that's why the risk is higher than using the Android Recovery method which one wipes out some things like /system/*
mix em both and they will shine...I hope LG's release sky rocket's mik CM7 rom and then i will permanently switch to CM...they simply rock..

That's exactly why I haven't gone for it yet. That and I've heard the GPS is still buggy.

I already had the official 2.2.1 before I rooted with GingerBreak, and haven't changed from that. I thought that rooting the phone would automatically block the OTA updates. Is there a way to simply allow the OTA 2.3 update when it comes?
As for kdz versus Android Recovery, everything I've seen around the web for returning to stock says to flash using kdz. Are you talking about using home+vol down+power?

So I Rooted, What Happens to ICS OTA?

Hey guys/gals, so I recently rooted my WiFi tab using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
My question is, once the OTA ICS update rolls around from Samsung what will happen to my device?
Thanks.
your device will get android 4.0...
If you allow the ICS update, it will update you to ICS but remove your root. If you flash a custom ROM then you won't get the ICS update until you go back to stock.
or until we get custom ICS roms. Which at the rate development of them is going in xda, may be before the ota release.

Yeah, I have been on GB with my Samsung Captivate for over 3 months and there is no eta yet for an official update to GB yet.
often people will root the ota to keep root. i would imagine we will have ics roms before samsung releases it.
