I dont think badge notifications come as a default... what launcher are you using? Do you have any notifications apps?

It is default.
Using the stock TouchWiz, add the stock Messages app to your homescreen. When you receive a text you'll get a little red badge with the number of notifications on the top right corner. Same with email and several other stock apps I think.
See the email app:

Ah fair enough, never stayed with touchwhiz long enough to find out
This was driving me crazy as using go sms instead of the messaging app meant I would always have badge notifications on the unused app, could only find an option to turn notifications off altogether rather than just badges.

Seeing as this is a Galaxy S2 forum, no one here can definitively point you in the right direction. Use Root explorer and search for it. If it doesn't show up, it's likely called something else as you're using an Xperia.

Ok so my problem is every time I recieve sms I get 2 notifications, first one being white icon and it looks like notification from default msg app and second from handcent sms...
Now I know I know I disabled all possible notifications in default msg app and I even uninstalled it from the phone since its rooted to 023. I played with every possible option in handcent sms and still every time I get sms I get that first notification that looks like from original msg app followed by notification from handcent sms...
Plz help, I looked everywhere and I red all posts related to it, didnt find anything.
Usually ppl have this problem when not disabling notification in original msg app.
Thanx in advance for any tips

In stock messaging, switch off all (uncheck). That is SMS, MMS, Notifications settings. That should do it.

I think I'm facing this problem too. The following screenshot shows that there is a new SMS icon in the notifications bar (arrowed), even though I have read all of my SMSes in the default Messaging app, as well as Handcent. I uninstal it and now have no double notifications..

No. The SMS and launcher replacements were made BECAUSE of the limitations the stock ones provide.
May I ask why you prefer the TouchWiz apps? If its just the theme, handcent/GO SMS can be themed to look pretty close. As for launchers I prefer LauncherPro, but with ADW you could easily make a TouchWiz style launcher (right down to the iPhone style app drawer), and still get the notifications you're looking for.
Adw launcher and adwnotify app are definitely the best options for you. You can set it to look exactly like touch wiz (you won't even know) it's a different launcher if you set it correctly.

No. The icon for the app can only be one .png. No animation or changing images of any kind. That's why its a widget. If this is something you want so badly, TouchWiz is not for you. It just isn't conducive to this kind of customization. As I said before all the above apps/widgets were made because you just can't do these kind of things with the stock launcher.

Haha I wasn't trying to sound harsh. But doing a mod like this to the Twiz launcher is a lot more extensive than you might realize, and may not be totally possible. The devs of these other apps have preemptively heard your cries, and produced multiple solutions for your problem.
is there any possibility to make sth like in sms unread... bo with my own icons? some different apps?
Does anyone know if it will be possible to have toggles for wifi/bt/gps/silent/data in the notification drop down like other phones have?
You can download Widgetsoid and when you make a Widget it will give you the option of adding it to the notification bar.
When it's there, though, and you click on something it will open a new little popup window to press the buttons..kinda weird, dunno why it does that.

i don't think that does what the OP wants, which is toggles within the notification bar (ala Samsung phones).
as far as i've seen, we can only have the clickable pop-up widget version that was described above.

Yeah I guess I was spoiled with my samsung (before this thread I was not aware this was a samsung only feature). I really miss this feature... wish it came standard on all androids. The closest one to what I want is notification toggle, but it's still more clicks to what I want.

- I think , it's impossible if you want to add Music widget / controller to "multi-tasking menu"
- If you want music widget / controller add to "notification bar" , u need android 4.0 ics library to make it possible.
I'm almost 100% sure Sony would add this in 4.0 update. Samsung has done it with even their gingerbread roms, just need someone with the skills to do it. But I can wait.
Nothing is impossible.

yes, nothing is impossible, just dig in inside play store and look for widgetsoid,
once u downloaded it, open it and check Play/Pause,Previous and Next on sound tab, then go to advanced tab, check on Notification and Widget Invisible, plus u can customize the look of your notification widget on theme tab.
ps - for some reason (i dont know) the widget will not play/pause, next or previous, but once u hit the button, a popup will appear in order to response.

here is mine. Sorry for the screenshot (not yet root)
i think it is possible also with GB libs...
i remember Samsung did that also in Eclair roms...
you should modify SystemUI.apk and framework.jar, the same way it has been modified for adding "notification toggles", calling the fw methods called by the widget...
You should be root of course to do that...

Carrier ID seems to show only on the lockscreen, and when notifications are pulled down.
It's not that obtrusive, IMO, but it's something AOSP roms can change.

FYI... I don't have my SGSIII yet, so I'm basing this entire response on my knowledge of ICS in general, not TouchWiz
Are you talking about some kind of carrier name in the notification bar or in the notification pull-down?
If you're talking about the pull-down menu, it may not actually "take up valuable space for actual notifications" if it works like the carrier name in stock ICS works... On stock, it shows up at the bottom of the pull-down, but you can see as you pull it down, that it actually appears behind the notifications themselves. So if TouchWiz works this way, you have nothing to worry about.
If you're talking about the notification bar, then I don't know what you mean, since I don't have mine yet. If this is what you mean, I obviously cant help you, but I'd still be interested in seeing a picture of what youre talking about. I don't see anything like that in the pictures from engadget's reviews...

Oh I see, so it shows up in the notification bar when the pull down the menu is activated
In that case, Samsung just moved it from the bottom of the pull-down to the notification bar itself. It doesn't seem like it should be a problem though, since you can see all of the notifications in greater detail at that point anyway. You don't need to see the little icons anymore when you can see the notifications themselves. No?

No, AT&T has a deal with their phones that their carrier name be in the notification bar. This is the same for the Galaxy S2, Skyrocket, and any other phones on AT&T. You can't get rid of it unless you obviously flash a custom ROM that disables it or an AOSP ROM.
