Would it be possible to port or use the Sense camera in CyanogenMod7? I have heard that it is tootied into the framework to use but I was wondering if any devs would know if this is possible or not.
I DESPISE the stock android camera!!!
Sense Camera
I hope someone can come up with a way to do this as well... Unfortunately, the quality of the AOSP camera pics is what is going to keep me from going back to CyanogenMod
Its possible but I doubt anyone would take the time to do this as it would be a huge headache trying to.make it independent of com.htc.resources.apk
This is quite a shame since the Sense camera app is awesome, compared to stock Android.
A dev named enomther ported over the sense camera for his AOSP based ROM on the nexus one. According to him, it was a huge PITA. A lot of Rosie framework had to be incorporated. I doubt we'd see anyone take that project on.
here is the MIUI camera.............give it a try. it is a little better than stock asop camera, IMO.
flash in recovery.

Anyone have the proper ICS camera apk? I tired a few(AOSP Rezound port and CM9 to name a few), but none of the were working right. I was able to get one to work right, and it worked pretty fast, but images were limited to 2mp, and none of white balance features were working correctly. Thanks.
Anyone, please?
It's stuck @ 3mp at the moment, not sure if anyone is trying to fix that or not. The HTC camera software is pretty much just as fast if you turn off the preview. ICS software is still a bit quicker when the flash is on, otherwise they're virtually the same in speed.
Why is the ICS camera limited at 3MP currently?

That is how it works when it is built from AOSP source. You need to add proprietary HTC stuff to get the full quality. That is how it was explained that Oxygen (pure AOSP) had low megapixels on the HTC desire vs. CM7 that was high quality. The guy making it wanted pure aosp, so he would never add the htc camera stuff that was needed for better pictures.
I just got my GSIII and even though I have spot metering on, the phone still doesn't base the ISO on the spot I touch in the frame. It basically functions as center metering. I'm considering flashing an AOSP ROM because I'm not thrilled with TW at all. The menus aren't graphically appealing to me, that's all. Can anyone with the AOSP camera that uses this feature get back to me? I know it's not a DSLR but even the Sense camera on my older HTC phones allowed me to choose what to base the lighting of the photo on.
Consequently, as a side question, is EVERY AOSP built on CM? Are there none that are based off pure Vanilla Android without anyone else's input or modifications? Maybe a straight port of the newest Nexus?
Thanks all!!

I thought SuperNexus might be Vanilla. Anyway, I'm more concerned about the cameras. Anyone know about the ISO issue and whether it works on AOSP?
Just going to try to bump this once to see if anyone can help. I can't believe nobody else has used this feature in the past. I just want light metering to be based on where I touch in the frame before taking a photo. Maybe I'm using spot metering wrong?
I've had the One XL since the start and have flashed every worthwhile ROM I wanted. The constant with non-sense roms has been the troubles with camera or limited integration. I find myself wondering as I wait for my new One to arrive, "will I only have a 4mp camera because htc won't release drivers for the camera?" Any insight would be appreciated, hopefully from one of the anticipating devs. Thanks!
That's a question that can't be answered until some one builds an aosp ROM for this phone. But I would really be surprised if the camera was open sourced. It's going to be hacked in I imagine.
I'm also worried about the loss of IR blasting with an AOSP ROM.
And this is pretty much why I'll be sticking to custom Sense based ROM's. HTC didn't release source for the ImageSense chip in the One X (not to my knowledge) and most of the features of the Sense 4 camera weren't present in CM builds. HTC put even more into their camera software this time around and losing all of that with an AOSP build just seems rather extreme. Will see though, maybe some dev will get crafty with the camera software.
The time I spent with the phone in the store I tried to find a reason why I would rather run an AOSP ROM on it but I was very well satisfied with the speed, smoothness, and class the One comes with out the box. I believe soon the only reason why we will flash a ROM is to play with theming only as oppose to speed and performance with what these phones are popping out the box!
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.

Yeah Sense 5 is pretty snazzy looking IMO. I think I'm gonna like it better than stock. Still want to unlock the bootloader and root though so I can flash a sound mod. Always like me some better audio!
waiting for AOSP
I love my htc one but never been a fan of anything besides android vanilla. I want to start using a stable cm10.1 as soon as it is ready, but I would really love to keep the camera app. I know its been done before, I had a nexus one and the camera for the desire was successfully ported. Can this even work without sense?

The HTC Camera app not only depends on Sense Framework, but also the custom imaging processor that HTC has built for the One. They have NOT open sourced this driver and won't.
Also, the camera would probably stink pretty bad on AOSP
Kind of a nub question regarding aosp camera v. TW - when one refers to the TW camera as being superior to aosp, is that because of the features offered or pic quality/software? In other words, does the software make a difference when you have the same processor, same lens, etc.?

It's mostly the features, but yes there is software processing that happens when you take a pic. For example when the HTC One came out it had overexposure issue, and they pushed out a firmware update to correct this. So basically since the TW camera app was written specifically for Galaxy devices it'll use the camera in a better way than AOSP which is designed to work with pretty much any camera.
The TW camera app has proprietary stuff that only works with touchwiz. Samsung paid good money for it, and will never give it out.
So, basic if you want the most out of the camera, you'll get it from TW because it can fully optimize it.
