So I have seen a few posts and done a few searches and have yet to find an answer to this one.
You can use a FAT32 formatted USB drive when using the webtop mod with the lapdock (and I assume the HD dock too), however trying this, I only appear to be able to browse this via the phone window, and copy from it to the local SD/SD-ext.
I can see no way to access this via the webtop itself allowing you to play sound/video/pictures from an external USB with the entertainment centre or even to just browse files with the webtop file browser.
Does anyone know if this is just something you cant do? Or am I missing something?
You're missing something. There's a file manager application in webtop mode. It's in the dock.

Hmmm, ok after rebooting the phone and plugging the usb drive in BEFORE opening the lapdock it is viewable in the file manager.
It seems however that if I plug it in while the lapdock is open it was only available via the phone window.
Anyway problem solved!

plzzz any one tell me ... other wise i hav to buy a new sd card tht sucks tho
use the usb cable to attach the phone to your pc and select mass storage mode. then drag and drop your files. you might have to pull the notification bar down on the phone and mount your phones internal memory first
Or you can use something like Android Commander, or Droid explorer, make sure your usb on the phone is in debugging mode ...
Awesome drop from the market. it's awesome.

You could also use Drop Box. Allows you to sync files from your computer without even attaching it. (Simply install Drop Box onto your computer and than download the Drop Box app on your phone.)
You can sign up and get Drop Box here: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEyMzc2MTQzOQ (If you use this link you and I will both get an additional 250MB of space).
Awesome drop works without having to install anything to your phone and you don't need to create an account

Scan detects nothing. Manually adding ip gives error
Wifi file explorer pro sounds like exactly what you are looking for.. Dropbox/Minus is a 2 step process, since the files are moved to the Cloud, not straight to your pc.
Apparently sugarsync does what you're looking for as well.

Here's a few other you can try to see if it's what you are looking for.
Samba Filesharing

Total Commander (you need to install the plugin also, to access computers over the network)

WiFi Explorer PRO is exactly what you are asking for. If you had that amazon app it was the free paid app of the day about a month ago. I use this all the time, you turn the app on and enter the I.P. it gives you in your PC browser and all your SD files pop up in your browser. You can download and upload faster then connecting with a usb cable Turn the app off when done and thats it, easy as pie, lol.

Works great and so easy! But can't do it the other way, right? I might also like to copy stuff from PC to phone.
I use websharing and it works like wifi explorer. It's useful for when I don't have a usb cable close by or don't wanna hassle with removing sd card. I'm pretty satisfied with it so far

Those apps are cool for files, but if you just want to send copied text to your phone (or a phone number or web link), the Google Chrome to Phone extension works great. It's fast too since it uses "Push" technology and you don't have to have other software running on your PC or launch any programs anywhere. It just works.

Hey, I've been trying to transfer some movies to my tab and it doesn't seem to be working. The windows explorer crashes when I drag over file. Any help?
Thanks in advance

The only way I could do it easily was to buy the USB adaptor and transfer via USB. This works fine for me and transfer is pretty quick. Just drop the required files you want in the relevant file directory on the tab.
I couldn't get any data transferred via WIFI or Kies so gave up and the USB transfer works fine for me. You may want to pay for the Diceplayer app though as I found the stock player had audio/video synching problems in some files.
I use an app called/ WIFI FILE EXPLORER/,to transffer everything from my pc or HD2 WM 6.5!! to my SGT.never fails and very easy.

+1 for this. Never had any problem. Are your files too big for the OS? I'm not sure what the limit is, but can you split the files up?

Transfering movies - transfer rate
Hi everyone,
First time ever in a forum so hope i am doing this right.
Bought a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, all is good but when i transfer videos from my laptop it says i should convert for proper play back on my tab.
The issue I have is that transferring files takes like 1 hour for a HD movie and for example breaking bad 800 mb takes about 20-30 minutes.
I am just dragging and dropping from my laptop to the movie folder of my tab.
I have searched the net and many say the Kies and allshare of Samsung are a no go..
So my question is this normal transfer rate?
Do I need to install another application on my laptop or tab to be more sufficient?
Thanks
Nash
What about using SwiFTP on the tab to start an FTP server? Then use Filezilla FTP client on the computer and sign on to the FTP server. Then just transfer everything over?
Get File Expert from Android Market (free). You can then tranfer files from PC/Mac to the Tablet via your web browser.
File manager HD is pretty good for copying files over wifi.

I have usb cable as part of charger, so I can unplug this cable and use it just as usb cable.
Otherwise I am transferring data with my own app Local Sync which synchronizes Outlook, but has powerfull file synchronization with transfer resumes, md5 verification, etc.
Without any app it should be possible if you install Samsung USB drivers and disable usb debugging mode in tablet, which is activated by default - just drag and drop files between pc and tablet.
I have used Kies wifi and wired and both have worked, but of course via wifi the movie took a looooong time.
I should finally have my usb/sd adapter kit delivered next week so that will be my new way of transfering files.
nice love it

I am confused, (a common state for me when playing with my Tab, unfortunately). My Tab has the 3.2 update and I have no problem dragging and dropping files between my PC and the Tab. I have not installed any USB drivers or disabled USB debugging, at least not that I know of. I am using the stock USB charge cable.
Did the issue with USB transfers go away with the latest release?

So you're using the USB connection? Everything worked fine from the box for me.
This might help you (it's a little bit slower though) - try using File Manager HD, it's really easy to browse and copy stuff from your PC/Mac/laptop/whatever, you can even set bookmarks for easier access
Hey guys, I accidentally deleted some family photos/videos on the LGOG. They were stored on the external SD card.
Is there any app that would help recover/restore those files?
Thanks
There isnt an app, but you could either hookup your phone with a usb cable or get a micro sd card adapter to hookup it up to your computer. Then use the program called Recuva. You can download it for free and it works really well. I've used it multiple times.

Great. Thaks
I'll give it a try
Installed Recuva.
Plugged my LGOG to the desktop. The desktop detects and I can browse the files.
However, Recuva doesn't seem to detect my LGOG as an external drive so it couldn't scan it.
Any suggestions?

Take the card out of the phone, put it in an adapter, and plug the adapted card into either your PCs built in card reader or a USB reader. Gets around potential driver issues
