can't mount in recovery and kernel panics

Hello,
Today I thought, let's try out ICS! Found this guide (can't post outer links, search for "android advices ICS Android 4.0.1 XXKP2 " in google), and used it to update my phone to ICS.
Well, after trying out the rom, I would like to go back to my MIUI backup, rooted it, installed clockworkmod recovery and booted up the recovery mode. The recovery said "can't mount /cache/*" for all cache folders. So I couldn't restore my backup.
After reading some stuff I installed a recovery through Odin. Worked like a charm, no alerts of mounting failures. Restored my backup, but when it was rebooting it gave an "Kernel Panic - Upload mode" screen. Couldn't do anything, so put the battery out and back in.
After this I installed ICS again with the same steps as in the guide. This worked! Rooted and installed recovery again, no problems so far. Tried a fresh install of MIUI but with the same problems.
So I can flash ICS but I can't flash any other rom, what can be the problem?
Every help and tips are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Same thing happened to me last nite, kernel panic, and im panic too. This happened after flashing that cm9 coz i just wanna try and see how cm9 look like and i know im not going to stick with it, just for trying. Now im back to miui.
What i did is i flashed back to stock rom, root, then flash miui, or any rom that you want. Very simple.
Rom : MIUI ICS XGT 'EXTENDED'
Kernel : Xcell-69X
Modem : XXKP8
Sent from Galaxy SII
I have the same problem I guess, tried ICS, went back to stock which I was using. Got Kernel panic upload mode several times, solution for this was flashing an older 2.3.6 version.
After this no more kernel panics...
But I can't flash any custom roms anymore.
My phone's working luckily but it doesn't work like it's supposed to

Thats not true my friend, you flash any custom rom. Nothing need to worry about.
Rom : samsung stock firmware
Kernel : stock kernel
Modem : stock modem

Did you make sure to flash back the old GB bootloaders? Restoring a backup wont flash them back.

[Q] Amend script & Overclocked Kernel

Hi everybody,
Amend Script Problem :
I'm a bit confused about Amend Script, my Xperia x10i is unlocked, i got the Oodie CM7, I've flashed it to change roms many times now ! Today i wanted to change the rom, but i can't because of these script (Amend Script is no longer supported...) I don't know why i've got it, i didn't do anything more than before.
I found many thing about that, a little program to convert to Amend Script, i try it, my recovery said 'Update Complete', but the rom was the same... No change. I also saw many weird things that i didn't understand..
So, what is the best way (with details please ) to restore my phone as before ?
Overclocked Kernel Problem :
I've got another problem about Overcloked Kernel, i can't flash them. When i do it my phone stay at kernel Screen then reboot then stay at kernel Screen etc...
Do you have an idea about that ?
So thanks you, and sorry, my english sucks

Are you using cwm recovery? If so use xrecovery (from flashtool). Also not all phones support overclock (my device may be better than one other but worse than another still). It all depends on tolerances on chipset.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I use xrecovery !
For the overclock maybe it's because I got one of the first X10 !
I just put my phone at original rom and root it again, then i reinstall recovery.
Same thing I can't do anything...
Someone got an idea ?
If you are bootloader-unlocked just flash a stock rom kernel (doomkernel/th-kernel)then you would access to xRecovery.
I can access to xrecovery but i can't flash because of amend script ! (cf first post)
Okay ! So, i found a solution this morning. The problem was the version of the recovery put with the latest Doom Kernel.
I'll share my procedure for all having this problem.
1- Put the Sony Stock Rom 2.3 with Pc companion.
2- Root your phone.
3- Install the 0.3 Recovery via Flashtool.
4- Before installing any rom don't flash the kernel. Keep the stock Kernel.
5- You should be able to flash your rom now, do anything you want but install everything (rom, patch, gapps...).
6- After all of that flash your kernel.
7- Now you have your rom, maybe without Wifi, but you can fix by flashing in the recovery (no need amend script for that).
I hope it can help some of you

You can always just change your kernel from flashtool then flash an other rom. No need in going to pc companion.

[Q] everytime i go into recovery it go's into android recovery!

after i flashed westcrisp's remix 9.6 and the provided kernal everytime i go into recovery it directs me into android recovery 3 and not clockworkmod
any help would be apreciated in helping me get straight into clockworkmod....... thanks in advance
sometimes it happens wen the kernel is not flashd properly...flash the rom again,i think tht will b good...
What he said ^^^^. If that doesn't work just flash a new kernel / recovery over the existing one, (Install Zip from SD Card, find the kernel and flashy )

Trying to install JJ Hybrid Rom , issues with CWM

Hello everyone
i was trying to install jjhybrid on my Neo ( locked bootloader ) but i got stuck on installing CWM Recovery .
My steps
1)updated with ICS stock from SEUS
2) flashed 4.0.3 with flashtool
3) rooted with doomlord
4) flashed back 4.0.4
phone is working and i got superuser so i think everything wents smooth till here..
I downloaded x-parts and tried to install CWM Recovery , that's where i started having my issue.
CWM folder doesn't get created on SD
Under superuser i can only see X-parts
Can't both to recovery in any way , tried the button in the app ( x-parts ) , volume down , tapping screen , noone works.
Reading the app forum it seems that is a bug with last version .. V7 , and a fix is still not out.
I found that i could install CWM-5.0.2.7-nAa-r2 on ICS even if it was made for GB , ( correct me if i'm wrong ) using the CWM Install as described here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509
but unfortunately i can't download that .rar mediafire tells me : Access Denied
Downloads are not allowed from this Account. If you think that you should have access to this file, please contact support.
I even tried registering , but didn't help
i also made a factory reset and re-installed x-parts ,
also one thing to notice is that when my phone starts there is no blue led when sony logo is on screen
so.. my questions are :
1) what went wrong ? i assume that once i got superuser all of the above steps were right.. ( 4.0.4 to 4.03 to 4.04 etc )
2) is it correct that i can install an ICS based rom ( jjhybrid 3.2 ) using CWM-5.0.2.7-nAa-r2
if yes , could any of you help me understand what is preventing me from downloading the installer ?
Correct me if i said something wrong or just point me to another solution if there is one ,
Thx a lot
Did you flash the recommended kernel ?
try this..should work..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19341487&postcount=21
or just flash a kernel ..custom kernels have cwm pre installed..problems with these are very very rare..
and blue led is for fastboot mode.. and it depends on the kernel you install, whether you get that light during startup or not..
solution: flash the recommended kernel for the rom..no need to install cwm separately..
then press vol down during boot,go in and wipe, install rom..thats all
follow this page...really helping

[Q] CWM Recovery Help

Hello there,
I have recently attempted to install a custom ROM on my Xperia U . I rooted using bin4ry , then unlocked bootloader. Everything was fine up to that point. Then I tried to use RecoverX to install CWM. The tool said it was a success, but device could not boot into recovery. It looked like the tool did nothing. I then found a custom kernel by AOKP that had CWM Recovery in it. I flashed and got recovery , but stuck in bootloop. I recovered from this by flashing B.10 stock firmware on my Xperia U using flashtools. I am now looking for ways to install CWM recovery safely.
What's the best way to install CWM in my current situation?
What caused the bootloop I experienced(out of curiosity)?

AOKP is not stock rom..
so its kernel is also not based n stok rom...thats why you got bootloop...
just download kernel which is based on sock rom like trancsend kernek...or phantom...
if you have jb then experimenatal kernel will be best....
and use flashtool to flash kernel...it is the easiest way to flash kernel..
all this kernels are prerooted and has cwm 6.x.x recovery.....
you will get this kernels in devlopment section....
Thank you!
Got it working!
I started off by installing transcendence kernel for stock ROMs. That went flawlessly and so I was presented with CWM recovery(which I started by repeatedly pressing Vol- when the transcendence logo comes up). Went to look for a ROM and found MIUI v4 for Xperia U, followed the instructions and flashed with CWM recovery.Very beautiful ROM. I got all my files from the Xperia U Development section.
Thanks for your help and a big thank you to the developers who make this possible. highfive:

Most kernels nowadays have light notification or vibration or borh for the time you need to press the volume button for cwn, if yours does you only need to press it once within 3 seconds.
