It blows me away that I'm asking this question still in 2011! I had the issue on WM a few years back and figured Google would allow their contact pics to be bigger by now.
After searching for quite a while, it looks to me like the only solution is to not sync your contacts with GMail. Has anyone found a way around this? 96x96 makes for a horrible looking full-screen caller-id.
depends, if they are on facebook syncmypix works. had some luck with motoblurs syncing.
Possible solution
Theres an app in the market place called Full Screen Caller ID FREE which can take over the screen when calls come in. It allows you to specify larger pics for contacts. It still uses the Motoblur Dialer for basic functionality like in call stuff.

Thanks for the idea...
...tried it...started off well...took a while and added all my contact pics in...but it chooses a small portion of each picture to use as the default picture in the rest of the phone. Its usually not even a recognizable part of the picture. So now I have random sections for all my contacts....and only full pictures for when I'm receiving a call. Which isn't that important to me. I like to use the pictures when dialing. It would seem with today's screen resolutions Google would have an option to leave pictures full size on phone, and only shrink them down for web use.

you can disable the picture option for your contacts so that it uses the original small-size photo you had for that contact before. got o settings -> miscellaneous and uncheck "Overwrite android picture"
i like the app, only complaint is i'm not a big fan of the answer screen layout.

Just to be sure before I change anything...are you talking about settings inside 'Full-Screen CallerID' app istself, or a Google setting on the GMail side of things?
EDIT: Found setting in app...thanks.
Hi there!
I didn't find this kind of tread here so I made new tread... If it's against the rules please tell me...
I wanted to change the darkening of my wallpaper picture on default LockScreen on my ARC S but don't know what file to change and how... In the attachment are my screenshots so that it will be clearer what I mean. The darker picture is my LockScreen and the brighter is my regular HomeScreen wallpaper. Is there a way to make LockScreen bright the same as it is on HomeScreen?
Thanks in advance...
I am sorry if I broke any rules with opening this tread. At least point me to a Tread that answer to my question...
Thanks...

I'm not actually sure you can. Reason being is the lockscreen has a transparent backdrop giving the darkened affect. I think it might be able to be made 100% transparent meaning no backdrop at all really. But I might be wrong. Someone who knows more on that side really needs to confirm what I said.
Oh.... And this should really be in Q&A forum but it's ok . Just watch out foe the ones that might give you abuse

Hi, has the the +buddy widget been removed in ICS? Ive tried using the contact widget but it displays the picture then a large grey box containing that contacts status update. Is there anyway just to display the picture? Thanks
Not sure what u mean but if u are taking about the popup when u press a contact image then its a ics feature
Noo, Im talking about the actual widget. What I have now for a contact on my homescreen is a picture of the contact, then to the right a grey box containing their status update. This is without clicking on it. I was just wondering if its possible just to have a 1x1 contact widget.
I have seen it mentioned while googling but i cant seem to get it on my s2
I think you want to create a shortcut.
Long press the home screen->pick Shortcut" and then pick Contact, Direct dial or Direct message.
Thats the one! I was only checking widgets.
Can we not resize widgets in touchwiz? Thought that was a big feature of ics..

I know what you're talking about. I also liked buddy widget instead of contact shortcut.
Direct dial shortcut is useful in some cases. But having a contact buddy widget was very useful.
Contact shortcut does the same job, but it displays much smaller pic with contact name below it.
I liked the way buddy widget displayed large pic. If we are putting a contact on screen, we would obviously know the name of that contact. Having a large pic displayed was cool. Unfortunately ICS seems to have taken it away.
Solution?
Has anyone managed to find a viable alternative to the 'buddies' widget?
As mentioned in the above posts, the two stock options in ICS are:
- Contacts widget - this gives a small thumbnail of the contact with a 'side tag' which displays a status update if available
or
- Contact shortcut - this shows the contact's thumbnail only; however, it's really quite small.
Neither are ideal on the SGS2. Even worse on the GNote. The contacts widget takes up too much space (ie a full row) and the shortcut is too tiny. A hunt in the market hasn't come up with much either.
Hi guys
I know this question has been asked before but can anyone give me a clear answer on contact pictures on the Xperia S? Is it actually possible to get large contact pictures to appear with the stock Xperia dialler? I've already tried out Full Screen Caller ID as a solution but it's pretty rubbish. I've used SyncMyPix by Neil Loknath and turned off syncing with Google Contacts (as I know this reduces the quality to 96x96 resolution apparently) and the pictures are high-quality but then only appear in a small square on the Xperia dialler.
Mine stretch to full screen width with a gray gradient overlaying the bottom when actually in call, but is it that you want them like that in just the contact view?
Anyways, dialler will no doubt change with ICS which is coming within 3 weeks(all going to plan sonys end) so just wait for that.
Well when I dial/receive a call the contact picture is in a small square in the middle of the screen with the person's name above it but when there is no contact picture assigned to the contact there is a nice large generic image of a person which stretches across the screen

Hey all, I'm hoping you can help me with something.. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 on Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 International version. When I call someone the call screen will have a huge photo on it and my photos are all small so they look terrible. I had it before with certain roms (not cyanogenmod) that the call screen would have a few options on it (like Gingerbread rom) and a small window for photos which meant the pictures were a decent size and looked great.
My question is, can I change settings in JB that will allow the small window to appear or do i have to install another stock dialer or such.
Sorry if I'm not explaining myself well...
Kindest Regards
Garret

Jelly support hd contact photos (256x256) which is pretty cool.
All you have to do is update your contact pictures manually or do it with this app, HD Contact Photos
Thanks for your quick reply. The app will be a big help, but we're would the photos be stored, since I've added the photos I've since forward the phone.
